MRS. JESSIE JANE CLOSE, who died at her home in Amboy, O. July 21, 1898 was born Sept. 3, 1859, fifth in family of seven at Brown homestead on the Lake Shore.  Here were centered the vital influences of youth and early womanhood.  Here the tender memories which bnd the true heart to its childhood home.  We seek congregation for business and refinement but solitude for growth.  Reared in the country, far enough from business centers to escape their evil powers yet near enough to enjoy the best of Nineteenth century civilization, we are neither surprised or disappointed in the intelligent and noble womanhood of the Christian wife and mother of later years.

Her early education was obtained at the country school.  Later she attended the Kingsville High School until after father's death in 1875.  Soon after this she began teaching and followed this occupation until her marriage to Elmer Close, of Sheffield, on her birthday anniversary in 1882.

While attending school at Kingsville she became a follower of Christ and united with the M. E. Church of that place.  In 1889, in company with her husband at his conversion she became a member of the Free Will Baptist church at North Sheffield, where they then resided and where they were still members at the time of her death.  After removing to their present home in Amboy she became a teacher in the M. E. Sunday School and an attendant at the services when her failing health permitted.  She held a letter of removal of membership but had been unable to attend church since receiving it.

Her last illness though attended by the most intense physical suffering was characterized by perfect spiritual peace and resignation.  She touchingly exhorted her family and friends to a godly life, and in the midst of suffering to which death could be only relief, prayed to be spared to her family if it were His will, but after prayer exclaimed triumphantly." He saves me now, He saves my any way."

She leaves two daughters, Ethel at 14 years, and Hazel at 9, just at the time we are apt to think they need a mother most, but adds a powerful influence to bind their hearts to godliness in Christ.

William A. Brown, 76, died at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at his home on Gore Rd., Conneaut township.  He had been ill a week.  Death was caused by pneumonia.  He was born in Conneaut township and lived in that community all his life.  For many years he operated a cider mill on his farm.
His wife Mary died July 12, 1931.  He is survived by three daughters. They are Mrs. Sadie Moses, Gore Road, Mrs. Hattie Moses, Conneaut and Mrs. Alice Brewer of Ashtabula.  Mrs. Flora Reed of Creek Road, Conneaut township is a sister.  Two brothers are living.  They are Albert Brown of Kingsville and A. L. Brown of Ashtabula.  Surviving him are seven grand children along with nieces and nephews.

Mr. Brown had been a member of the Amboy Methodist Church for more than 50 years.  Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m.  Friday at the home and will be conducted by Rev. L. R. Dittman, pastor of the Amboy Methodist church.  Burial will be in the Amboy Cemetery.  The Body will be removed from the Gordon Thompson Funeral home in Conneaut to the family residence where friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening.

MARY B. BROWN DIES, AGED 70
CONNEAUT RESIDENT SUCCUMBS SUNDAY

Mrs. Mary Benson Brown, 70, wife of William Brown, Gore Rd., near Conneaut, died Sunday, according to word received here by friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at her home.  Burial will be in Amboy Cemetery.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Brown is survived by three daughters and several grand children.  Vern Benson.  Lake Road Conneaut, is a brother

Mrs. Sadie U. Moses

Mrs. Sadie U. Moses, 93, former Conneaut area resident, died Thursday evening at the Dade City Geriatrics Center, Dade City, Fla, following a lengthy illness. 

Born in Conneaut, Nov. 16, 1886, the daughter of Will and Mary Benson Brown, she had resided in the Amboy area most of her life, until she moved to Zepherhills , Fla.

Mrs. Moses was a life long member of the Amboy United Methodist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband Hampton S. Moses in  1951 and by her sister Mrs. James Moses .

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mary Hayford and Mrs. Hattie Supplee, both of Zeperhills, Florida; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  Several nieces and nephews , and more distant relatives also survive.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from Thompson Funeral Home.  In the absence of the Rev. Clair Hess, pastor of the Amboy United Methodist Church, the Rev. J. L. Murray, retired, will officiate.  Internment will follow in the family plot in Amboy Cemetery.

Friends may call the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.   (SEE CEMETERY INDEX)
