Velma Irene Kinnan
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Pa. -- Velma Irene (Harmon) Kinnan, 82, of Ridge 
Road, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at Inn-Conneaut Nursing Home. 
Born Jan. 18, 1916, in Quincy, Mo., she was a daughter of Joseph and Cora 
Harmon Willis. 
Mrs. Kinnon operated the Kinnan's Grocery Store in West Springfield more than 
30 years with her husband, Leo, whom she wed on June 10, 1936. 
She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, reading, and watching TV game shows, 
especially Jeopardy. 
Survivors include a daughter, Bev Picard of Conneaut, a son, Bud of 
Platea, Pa., eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, 
Darlene Kinnan and Carol Glasser; a sister, Thelma Clauson, a brother, 
Orville Harmon, and a stepbrother, Dorcy Willis. 
A private service was Saturday at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, East 
Springfield, Pa., with William Picard officiating. Burial followed in 
Springfield Cemetery, East Springfield.

NORTH KINGSVILLE -- Joe E. Dickey, 75, died Thursday, 
June 18, 1998, 
at Brown Memorial Hospital. 
Born Jan. 15, 1923, in Conneaut, he was the son of G.B. and Ona W. 
(Barton) Dickey. 
Mr. Dickey graduated from Rowe High School in 1941. He later worked in the 
city's Burke Machine Tool Shop as a tool and die maker, before enlisting with 
the U.S. Navy. 
A World War II veteran, he served with the Navy for two years in the Pacific 
Theater. Afterwards, he was employed with the U.S. government as a postal 
carrier. He retired from the post office in 1978, after 32 years service. 
He also worked at Dickey Electrical Construction Co., Sebring, Fla., as an 
electrician. 
He attended services at St. Catherine's Catholic Church and the United 
Methodist Church, both in Sebring; as well as St. Mary's Church in Conneaut. 
An avid trumpet player since age five, he performed professionally with the 
Joe Dickey Combo at various clubs and restaurants. While in Sebring, he also 
played trumpet with the Sundance Band, at various nursing homes and at the Sun 
Room Senior Center. 
Mr. Dickey also taught trumpet for several years, in both Conneaut and 
Sebring. 
In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, farming, canoeing, camping raising 
horses and horseshoe pitching. He also loved being with his friends and family. 
Survivors include his wife, Bernice (Raisian) Dickey, whom he wed on July 20, 
1946, at St. Mary's Church; a son, James E. in Sebring, Fla.; two daughters, 
Joan D. Whitney and Jean K. Whitman of Conneaut; five grandchildren; a 
great-grandchild; and a sister, Winifred Wrathbun of Eustis, Fla. 
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Francis. 
Funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Raisian Funeral Home, a Family Care Group 
affiliate, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Ash Welch of East 
Conneaut United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn 
Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, where the American Legion Honor Guard will 
conduct military rites. 
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

CONNEAUT -- Clyde Goldberg, 75, died Friday, June 19, 1998, at UHHS 
Brown Memorial Hospital.

Merle Swanson
HOLDREGE, Neb. -- Merle Swanson, 89, a resident of the Methodist 
Memorial Home died Wednesday, June 17, 1998. 
Born Feb. 21, 1909, in Conneaut, he was the son of George and Dora (Northrup) 
Swanson. He had lived in Jefferson, Ashtabula and Kearney, Neb. 
Mr. Swanson graduated from Ashtabula High School and married Anna Hofmeister 
on Oct. 15, 1938. 
He worked his entire career for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co., 
retiring in 1974. 
After retirement, he moved to Greenville, S.C., where he lived until moving 
to Kearney in 1989. He moved to Methodist Memorial Home in 1993. 
While in Ashtabula, he was a member and deacon at First Christian Church. In 
Greenville, he was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church and active in the 
senior center there. 
In Kearney, he was active in First Presbyterian Church. 
Mr. Swanson also was a 52-year member and past exalted ruler of Ashtabula 
Elks Club 208; and a past member and president of the Ashtabula Area City Board 
of Education. 
Survivors include a daughter, Priscilla Jepson of Kearney; two grandchildren; 
and three great-grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his wife in January 1990, two brothers and two 
sisters. 
Private service is today at O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home, Kearney, Neb. 
Burial will be in Kearney Cemetery.  
No calling hours will be observed.

Richard Lee Duncan 
MESA, Ariz. - Richard Lee Duncan, 72, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, in Mesa. 
He was born June 29, 1925, in East Springfield, Pa., the son of Lee and Elva 
Duncan. 
Mr. Duncan was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. Before 
moving to Mesa, he lived in the Conneaut area and worked at White 
Consolidated and Emco Wheaton. 
At his retirement, he was a machinist for Motorola Inc. 
Survivors include his wife, Juanita; two daughters, Diana Baldwin and Cindi 
Duncan; two sons, Richard of Virginia and David of Scottsdale, Ariz.; eight 
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Kohlman of 
Conneaut. 
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Scotty Duncan. 
Funeral was May 18, 1998, at Mesa City Cemetery, with Dr. William O. 
Smith officiating.

CONNEAUT - Clyde C. Goldberg, 75, died Friday, June 19, 1998, at UHHS 
Brown Memorial Hospital. 
Born Dec. 13, 1922, in Johnstown, Pa., he was the son of Clyde R. and Catherine 
Marie Goldberg. 
He serviced in the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Conneaut in 
1957. 
Mr. Goldberg was employed at the former Emco Wheaton Co. on the assembly line. 
He enjoyed fishing and lawn mower repair, 
Survivors include hus wife, Betty (Brewer) Goldberg; eight daughters, Kathryn 
M., Sandra J. Smith, Cheryl and Martha, all of Conneaut; Bernadena M. and 
Barbara A. Bukata of Johnstown, Pa., Shirley A. Brewer of Illinois and Patricia 
A. Caroll of Ashtabula; and five sons, David C. Brewer of Conneaut, Peter 
W., Terrance M. John E. and Robert C., all of Johnstown, Pa.; and several 
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Merritt Goldberg; a sister, 
Frances Turek; and a daughter, Linda Mae Benito. 
A service will be held at the convenience of the family Thursday at Benshoff 
Cemetery, Johnstown, Pa.

BOONE, N.C. - Irene Conway, 95, a former Conneaut resident, died Sunday, 
June 21, 1998, at Watauga Medical Center, Boone. 
Born Nov. 27, 1902, in Crawford County, Pa., she was the daughter of James and 
Lillian Thornton Thompson (Bryson). She had lived in Conneaut for 50 
years before moving to Boone. 
A homemaker, she was Methodist. 
Survivors include a brother, Richard Thompson of Dearborne, Mich.; a 
granddaughter, Rebecca McMillan of Boomer, N.C.; four grandsons, Kevin Conway of 
Valle Crucis, N.C., Stephen Steele of Boone, Eric Steele of Panama City, Fla., 
and Michael Conway of Conneaut; 12 great-grandchildren and six 
great-great-grandchildren. 
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Dale 
Conway; a son, Robert; a daughter, Jean Steele; a grandson, Robert Steele; and a 
number of brothers and sisters. 
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Naples Memorial Gardens, 
Naples, Fla.

He was a 1993 graduate of Happy Hearts and was an antique car enthusiast. He 
also enjoyed reading, music and family get-togethers. He attended East 
Conneaut United Methodist Church and Sunday School faithfully each week. He 
was also a member of the National Studebaker's Drivers Club, and was known in 
all area restaurants for his order of "double fries on one big plate." 
Survivors include his parents; four sisters, Kathy Tuttle of Dale City, Va., 
Laura Chapman of Walton Hill, Marideth Leonard of Westerville, and Noelle Lydic 
of Columbus; and three brothers, David III of El Paso, Texas, Christopher of 
Conneaut, and Bryan of Cleveland. 
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Rudolf and Mary Jane Geer; and 
paternal grandparents, David and Marguerite (Schaubaut) Fields. 
A memorial service will be later in July at the East Conneaut United

CONNEAUT -- Phyllis Adamovich, 78, of Main Street died Thursday,

Born Oct. 9, 1919, in Youngstown, she was the daughter of Joseph Serra and 
Rose Carson. She married John Adamovich Nov. 20, 1941. 
A one-time resident of Hollywood, Fla., Mrs. Adamovich was a homemaker. She 
was a member of St. Anthony Church in Youngstown and Little Flower Catholic 
Church in Hollywood, Fla. 
Survivors include a son, John N. of Conneaut; two grandchildren; and 
two great-grandchildren. 
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, on June 27, 
1997; a daughter, Miss Karalee; a brother, Vincent Serra; and two sisters, 
Rosemary Panfil and Marie Edgerton. 
Service is 10 a.m. today at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, 3100 Canfield 
Road, Youngstown. Burial will be in Belmont Park Cemetery.

CONNEAUT -- Margaret B. Palagyi, 77, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital. 
She was born Dec. 24, 1920, the daughter of Carl and Marie (Gilulie) Burr. 
She married Michael Palagyi Jan. 28, 1945, in Louisiana. 
A 1938 graduate of Conneaut High School, Mrs. Palagyi later worked at 
Rainbow Babies Hospital in Cleveland. She then entered Ashtabula General's 
School of Nursing, and earned her certification as a registered nurse in 1943. 
Employed at Brown Memorial Hospital for many years, she also was a nurse to
Conneaut's Doctor Brown for 28 years -- until he left the area. 
She loved baking, playing cards and attending church activities. A member of 
St. Frances Cabrini Church, she volunteered at the St. Frances Cabrini School 
library. She also enjoyed monthly dinner gatherings with the 1943 nurses alumni 
organization. 
Survivors include her husband; two grandchildren, Eric and Jodie Anderson; a 
brother, Harry Burr of Conneaut; and a sister, Charlotte Kelly of Lehigh, 
Fla. 
Besides her parents, Mrs. Palagyi was preceded in death by a son, Michael, in 
1971; a sister, Helen Ritari; and a brother, Carl "Bob" Burr. 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Frances Cabrini 
Church, Conneaut, with the Rev. A. Edward Gretchko officiating. Burial 
in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut, will follow.

Royce A. Evans
GENEVA - Royce A. Evans, 91, died Sunday June 28, 1998, at his home. 
Mr. Evans was born May 3, 1907, in Rock Creek a son of Milo and Cloie (Young) 
Evans. 
He was a lifelong Ashtabula County resident living 50 years in Geneva. Mr. Evans 
worked as a copper plater for True Temper in Geneva for more than 20 years until 
his retirement in 1962. 
Mr. Evans married Florence Evans on June 22, 1929, in Rock Creek. He played 
various musical instruments, was a life member of the National Rifle 
Association, a member of the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club and enjoyed 
fishing and hunting. 
He is survived by three sons, Royce R. Evans of Geneva, Kenneth "Pete" Evans of 
Rock Creek and Mark Evans of Geneva; two fosters sons, Robert and Kenny Tryon, 
both of Geneva; two brothers, Keith of Ashtabula and Charles of Nevada; two 
sisters Dorothy Hamilton of Ashtabula and Iona Deemer of Conneaut; seven 
grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. 
Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; in 1993; his parents; one 
grandson, Matthew Evans; two brothers, Blaine and Shirley Evans; and two 
sisters, Hilda Reynolds and Audrey Gressinger. 
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lenox Center Cemetery with 
the Rev. Raymond Mote officiating. 
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Donald E. Walker Funeral Home,

ORWELL - Luella M. Kelly, 95, of Crystal Ave., Ashtabula, died Saturday

1998, at the Village Square Nursing Home in Orwell after a long illness. 
Mrs. Kelly was born March 13, 1903 in Conneaut, a daughter of Ward J. and 
Nellie Brockett and has been a lifetime area resident. 
Survivors include a son, Robert Kelly of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Barbara 
Drazba of Orwell; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren, a great-great 
grandchild and several nieces and nephews. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bert E. Kelly in 1964; a 
brother, George Brockett and a sister, Goldie Preston. 
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ross-Billman Funeral Home, A Family Care 
Group Affiliate, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula with Ross DeFelice officiating. 
Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.

Born May 26, 1931, in Conneaut, she was the daughter of Nick and Bertha (Jordan) 
Vignal. 
She was a 1949 graduate of Conneaut High School, and was formerly 
employed with the Conneaut Creamery and the former Astatic Corp.; Premix; 
and Conneaut Die Casting Co. She was a member of St. Frances Cabrini 
Church, Conneaut, and enjoyed traveling, gambling at casinos, activities 
at the Conneaut Community Center, and being with her grandchildren. 
Survivors include two sons, Dennis, of Ashtabula, and John, of Conneaut; 
a daughter, Sherry Atkins of Conneaut; her mother, of Conneaut; a 
brother, Jack Vignal of Conneaut; a sister, Shirley Rose of Conneaut; 
five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her father, in 1975; and a sister, Mary Louise 
Warren, in 1984.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Russell Denton, 78, died Monday, May 25, 1998, at St. 
Anthony's Hospital. 
Born in Akron, he lived in North Kingsville until 1972, when he moved to 
Florida. 
Mr. Denton was a mayor in North Kingsville. An owner and operator of a nursery, 
he was a member of the Presbyterian church. He was a Mason and a member of the 
Scottish Rite, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory, Valley of Coudersport, Pa. He 
was an Army veteran of World War II. 
Survivors include his wife, Helen, of 57 years; a son, John of St. Petersburg; 
three daughters, Sharon Turja of Orlando, Joan Edgren of Lutz, Fla., and Mary 
Lehmkuhl of St. Petersburg; and seven grandchildren.

Jeannette M. Eland 
MADISON - Jeannette M. Eland, 44, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at her home. 
She was born June 6, 1954, in Conneaut, the daughter of Daniel L. and 
JoAnne Hommes. A 22-year resident of Madison, she also resided in Kingsville 
Township. 
For the past 15 years, Mrs. Eland had been secretary at the Parker Plumbing and 
Heating Co. in Madison. She also was a member of Immaculate Conception Church 
and VFW Ladies Auxiliary 8548, both in Madison. 
She attended St. Mary's School in Conneaut, and was a 1973 graduate of 
Edgewood High School. 
Survivors include her husband, George P.; a son, Steven M. Eland of Madison; her 
parents of Kingsville Township; four sisters, Linda Stillman, Karen Rose and 
Jacqueline A. Peoples, all of Ashtabula and Joan Hatch of Conneaut; three 
brothers, Matthew L. and Mark A. Hommes, both of Ashtabula and Michael A. 
Hommes of Kingsville; and two grandchildren.

MYERSTOWN, Pa. - Harold F. Lebo, 82, formerly of West Carpenter Avenue died 
Friday, July 3, 1998, at the E.C.C. Retirement Village, Myerstown. 
Born Dec. 6, 1915, in Valley View, Pa., he was the son of Allen and Grace (Klauser) 
Lebo. 
A 1934 graduate of Myerstown High School, Mr. Lebo retired in 1985, from Simon 
S. Kettering, Lebanon, Pa., where he worked 30 years. Before, he worked 10 years 
for Thermal Sash, Lebanon, Pa. 
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Myerstown, Pa. 
Survivors include his Ruth A. (Iceman) Lebo whom he was married for 64 years; 
three daughters, Carolyn Emerich of Lebanon, Virginia Hartman of Conneaut, 
and Sharon Sanders of Myerstown, Pa.; a son, Michael of Cornwall, Pa., 12 
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sara Arnold of Myerstown, Pa.; 
and a brother, Alvin Lebo of Lebanon, Pa. 
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward A.; a brother 
Reuben; and a sister, Helen Hollich. 
Service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at the E.C.C. Retirement Village Chapel, Myerstown. 
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

CONNEAUT - Lyle A. Stine, 70, of Biscoff Avenue, died Friday, 
July 3, 
1998, in University Hospitals in Cleveland. 
Born Sept. 12, 1927, in Conneaut, he was the son of the late Cleon an Emma 
(Bateman) Stine. 
Mr. Stine resided in Palmdale, California for thirty years prior to moving back 
to Conneaut eleven year ago. While in California, he was employed by the 
Lockheed-Martin Corporation, where he worked as an airplane mechanic. 
A veteran of W.W. II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. 
Survivors include his wife, Kim Stine; two daughters, Lori Schmidt and Sandy 
Storm; two sons, Timothy and Ronald, all of Palmdale, Calif.; seven 
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Marcia Griswold; and a brother, 
Wilson Stine, both of Conneaut. 
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Inez Oehlenschalaeger; 
and two brothers, Thomas Jenkins and Charles Stine. 
Service is 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, 
with the Rev. Duc Kang, pastor of the Ashtabula Korean Church, officiation.

Lillian Willhoite
PAINESVILLE - Lillian Willhoite, 89, died July 3, 1998, at the Lake Med Rehab 
Nursing Facility in Painesville. 
Mrs. Willhoite was born Dec. 7, 1908, in Perry where she lived her entire life. 
She worked at the I.R.C. Fibers Corp. located in Painesville Township, in the 
company's beaming department. She was an avid bingo player, attended the Perry 
Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening. 
Mrs. Willhoite is survived by two sons; Arthur Nolan of Phoenix and Robert Nolan 
of California; four daughters, Kathy Platt of Bradenton, Fla., Pamela Williams 
of Painesville, Karen Wallace of Anchorage, Alaska and Carol Brokaw of 
California; one step daughter, Marilyn Droese of Conneaut; a cousin, 
numerous grand children and several great grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by three husbands; Arthur Nolan, George Prindle and 
Orville Willhoite; a son, Richard Prindle and a daughter, Patty Martell. 
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Perry Cemetery, Middle 
Ridge Road and Center Street in Perry Township, with the Rev. Robert E. 
Henderson of the First Baptist Church in Perry officiating.

and trees which was evident in his gardens. 
He is survived by his wife, the former E. Marie Bennett, to whom he had been 
married for 72 years; four daughters, Mary Lou Swain of Hilton Head, S.C., Laura 
Kennedy of Madison, Susan Pfeifer of Bucyrus; two sons, Robert H. Benson of 
Conneaut and Larry Benson of Boulder, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, 20 great 
grandchildren and a sister Luella English of Conneaut. 
Mr. Benson was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mildred Benson and

included playing horseshoes and doing yardwork.

CONNEAUT -- Robert R. Soller, 80, of Dorman Road, Conneaut, died 
Monday, July 6, 1998, in the University Hospitals of Cleveland. 
Mr. Soller was born Dec. 24, 1917, in Manistee, Mich., the son of Clarence 
and Clara Soller, and lived in Conneaut since 1944. 
He sailed with the Pittsburgh Steamship Lines for several years as a third 
assistant. Mr. Soller worked for the former Fortune Byers Co. installing 
plumbing and heating, and between 1959 and retirement in 1979 was proprietor of 
Soller Plumbing. 
After retirement, he served 11 years as city plumbing inspector for the 
Conneaut Board of Health. 
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Soller was a 
former member of the Amboy Rifle Club. He also enjoyed gardening, softball and 
his family. 
Survivors include his wife, the former Marie M. Harrington, whom he married 
54 years ago; a daughter, Susan Welch of Alexandria, La.,; a son, David H. of 
Conneaut; two brothers, Arthur and Leonard Soller, both of Manistee, Mich.; 
three grandchildren, Derek Woodworth, Anne Marie Soller and Aimee Soller; and 
two step-grandchildren, Steven and Jason Tharp. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers. 
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the East Conneaut United

(Brockett) Mead. 
A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Moses had spent the past 10 years in Conneaut. 
She enjoyed quilting, working crossword puzzles and watching the Cleveland 
Indians. 
Survivors include her husband, Robert L., whom she married on Sept. 23, 1933; 
two daughters, Marilyn Anderson of Conneaut and Judy Scott of Ashtabula; six 
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Taft of Ashtabula; and

CONNEAUT -- Eino R. Ritari, 87, of West Main Road, died Saturday, 
July 
11, 1998, at his home of an apparent heart attack. 
A lifelong Conneaut resident, he was born there on Jan. 28, 1911, the 
son of Richard and Lempi (Sundberg) Ritari. 
Mr. Ritari graduated from Conneaut High School, and was a member of 
the school's football team. He also was a semiprofessional wrestler for a time 
after high school. 
He sailed the Great Lakes for eight years, before becoming an employee of the 
Norfolk & Western Railroad, retiring in 1974 where he held the position of 
carman. 
He was a member of South Ridge Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon 
and usher. He also was a member of Evergreen Lodge 222 F & AM, Conneaut; and 
Conneaut Chapter and Conneaut Council, where he was a one-time high priest. 
He enjoyed wintering in Florida. His hobbies included fishing, traveling, 
listening to music and cooking. 
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Ann Evans of Conneaut; a son, 
Richard L. of Ashtabula; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two 
great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lillian Reo of Conneaut. 
Besides his parents, Mr. Ritari was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy 
(Cline) Ritari, on March 31, 1998; a sister, Helen Smothers; and four brothers, 
Lauri, Russell, Waino and Arvo Ritari.

She enjoyed quilting.

Born Jan. 12, 1914, in Lansing, N.C., she was a daughter of Martin L. and Betty 
(Adams) Johnson, and had lived in Chardon for the past seven years, coming from 
Cleveland. 
She married Archie Barton on Oct. 3, 1929. 
Mrs. Barton was an assembler for General Motors Coit Road plant for 30 years, 
retiring in 1979. She was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 45, 
Cleveland. 
She enjoyed her grandchildren, cooking for her family, traveling, playing cards 
and needlework. She made quilts for each of her grandchildren. 
Survivors include two daughters, Clenna Cox of Ococee, Fla., and Betsy Myers of 
Hambden Township; three sons, John of Cookville, Tenn., Thomas of DeFuniak 
Springs, Fla., and Sherwood of Richmond Heights; 15 grandchildren; 23 
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Archie Barton on June 15,

Born April 12, 1912, in Oblong, Ill., she was the daughter of Roy and Martha Ann 
(Plummer) Vernon. 
For 40 years, she assisted her husband, who was owner/operator of the Ashtabula 
Business College. 
Survivors include a daughter, Naomi White, of West Palm Beach; five sons, John 
R., of Minneapolis, C. Mark, of Winston-Salem, N.C., David L. of Phoenix, Ariz., 
Thomas E. of Birmingham, Ala., and Paul R. of West Palm Beach; two sisters, Ida 
Smith of Kansas City, Kan., and Naomi Carlen of Casey, Ill.; 16 grandchildren 
and 19 great-grandchildren. 
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death June 30 by her husband, Charles 
H., whom she wed March 27, 1933, in Star City, Ind.; a twin sister, Helen; two 
brothers, Clarence and Russell; and a son, Philip Chris. 
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Star City Church of Christ, Star City, Ind.

Cemetery, Star City.

Glenn Gove Jr.
CONNEAUT - Glenn "Lee" Gove Jr., 64, of Craytor Avenue, Conneaut, died 
Monday, July 13, 1998, near Warren. 
Born Feb. 26, 1934, in Ashtabula, he was the son of Glenn and Jennie Gove. He 
was a lifelong area resident. 
An Army veteran, Mr. Gove was employed by the former Emco Wheaton Co., Conneaut, 
and later by the L-Tec plant, (ESAB Group), Ashtabula. He provided necessary 
transportation for veterans in the area; had been a Boy Scout leader; and 
enjoyed monitoring police action with his scanner. He was commodore of the Lake 
Erie Boat Club; the U.S. Power Squadron; and the Optimist Club. 
Survivors are his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. 
Service is 11 a.m. Friday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., 
Conneaut, with the Rev. Peg Welch, of the First United Methodist Church, 
officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover. 
Calling hour is from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

PLYMOUTH, Minn. - Former Conneaut resident William V. Kelley, 85, died 
June 7, 1998, in Plymouth. 
A graduate of Conneaut High School, Mr. Kelley was preceded in death by 
his wife of 58 years, Ruth (Oehlenschlager) Kelley; and his parents, Kenneth and 
Olive Kelley. 
He is survived by a sister, Jane Brace of Ashtabula. 
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut.

William H. Burr
ROANOKE, Va. - Former area resident William Henry Burr, 81, of Roanoke died 
June 
20, 1998, at his home. 
A graduate of Conneaut High School, Mr. Burr was employed with the 
railroad for 41 years and retired as assistant manager of operating rules for 
the Norfolk and Western Railroad. 
He was a World War II veteran, serving in Europe with the 8th Air Force 
Composite Command, Air Disarmament Command and the 8th Air Force Service 
Command. Mr. Burr was awarded the Bronze Star. 
Survivors include his wife, Viola Stockwell Burr; a son, William; and 
granddaughter, Deborah Ann Burr of Roanoke. 
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Lee Burr. 
Simpson-Tharp Funeral Chapel, Roanoke, was in charge of the funeral. Burial 
was in Evergreen Burial Park.

CONNEAUT - Ruth M. Young, 73, of Center Road, Conneaut, died 
Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital, Conneaut. 
Mrs. Young was born April 12, 1925, in Conneaut, the daughter of Otto and 
Mae Nelson, and lived in the area her entire life. 
She was a homemaker and enjoyed collecting antiques. 
Survivors include her husband, Robert, to whom she had been married for 54 
years; a son, Rodney of Conneaut; a sister, Elsie Gustafson of West Palm 
Beach, Fla.; a brother, Donald Nelson of Jupiter, Fla.; and three grandchildren, 
Gary, Michelle and Molly Young, all of Conneaut. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen Casey; and a brother, 
Harry Nelson. 
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Kelloggsville Cemetery, Monroe 
Center. The Rev. John G. Galloway, of the Ashtabula Church of God, will 
officiate. 
There will be no calling hours. 
Memorial contributions may be made to the Conneaut Fire Station Three 
rescue squad.

CONNEAUT - Victor D. Moisio, 57, of Spring Street, died Wednesday, 
July 15, 1998, in Hamot Medical Center, Erie. 
Born July 31, 1940, in Conneaut, he was the son of Victor and Jessie 
Bennett Moisio. 
Mr. Moisio had been a Conneaut resident all his life and was employed by 
the Conneaut General Electric Base Plant for 34 years as a Quality 
Control Engineer. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the 
Kiwanis Club. A member of the American Society of Quality Control, he was a 
quality control instructor for several years at Kent State University, Ashtabula 
Campus. 
Survivors include his two sons, Mitchell of Cleveland Heights and Shane of 
Cincinnati; his mother, Jessie R. Moisio of Conneaut; and two sisters, 
Carol Hill of Kingsville and Doris Pryor of Jacksonville, Fla. 
He was preceded in death by his father. 
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 
Main St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Clyde A. McGee, pastor of Good Shepherd 
Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Kelloggsville Cemetery. 
Calling hours will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.            
The family suggests that memorials be made in his name to United Way of

CONNEAUT -- James P. O'Brien, 91, of Center Road, died Thursday,

Born Aug. 27, 1906, in Ashtabula, he was the son of Edward and Anastasia 
(McCarty) O'Brien and was a lifelong area resident. 
Mr. O'Brien retired from the New York Central Railroad, where he worked in 
the sawmill of the car shop. 
He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, doing rebuilding and refurbishing work, 
and especially being with family. 
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Ashtabula. 
Survivors include a sister, Margaret Fails of Ashtabula. 
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Catherine O'Brien; 
and two brothers, Ted and Harry. 
Funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, with 
the Rev. Philip Miller officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, 
Saybrook Township.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leonard W.; two 
sisters, Daisy Wells and Margaret Reeves; and a brother in infancy.

Born June 1, 1909 in Polgar, Hungary, she was the daughter of Gabe and Angela 
(Csaszar) Dobos. She moved to Conneaut 18 years ago after residing in 
Cleveland. 
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. 
Survivors include two sons, Lajos of Conneaut, and Peter of 
Conneaut; two sisters in Hungary; and two grandchildren.

She attended the Free Methodist church in Conneaut and enjoyed 
crocheting, sewing and collecting porcelain dolls. 
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; a 
sister, Mary Muller; and a brother, Burton Lewis. 
Survivors include two daughters, Delberta Fromknecht of Conneaut, and 
Bonnie Messent of Geneva; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Francis J. Williams Jr.
CONNEAUT - Francis J. Williams Jr., 76, of State Street died Friday, 
July 17, 1998, at University Hospital in Cleveland. 
Born Oct. 4, 1921, in Worcester, Mass., he was the son of Francis J. Sr. and 
Leda (Carrier) Williams. He was a lifelong Conneaut resident. 
Mr. Williams was a 1940 graduate of Conneaut High School and served with 
the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was instrumental in starting and was 
in charge of the first radio station in Japan following the war. He was employed 
as an electrician by True Temper Corp., retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. 
Mary's Church in Conneaut and Cowle Post No. 151, of the American Legion. 
He enjoyed fishing. 
Survivors include his wife Catherine (Yozzo), whom he married May 23, 1942; four 
daughters, Cathy Sibley of Kent, Pamela Yezza of Willoughby, Amy Topper of 
Tallmadge and Mary Williams of Conneaut; two sons, Mark of St. Charles, 
Ill., and David of Conneaut; sister, Margaret McMillen of Conneaut; 
and 10 grandchildren. 
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters during 
childhood. 
A Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church in Conneaut. 
Rev. Nathan Willis will officiate.

ASHTABULA - Helen M. Hettmansperger, 94, of 
Gulfview Tower died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Carington Park Nursing Home. 
Born July 16, 1904, in Big Rapids, Mich., she was the daughter of Alfred and 
Emma (Field) Husted. She has been an Ashtabula resident since 1949. 
Mrs. Hettmansperger was a member of the Ashtabula First Church of Nazarene where 
she had been an active in all church activities, especially as a teacher and 
calling on shut-ins. 
She was also active in the Salvation Army Home League, League of Mercy. 
Survivors include a son, Noel E. of Waikola, Hawaii; a brother, Emerson Husted 
of Ocala, Fla.; and a sister, Gertrude Butler of Elkhart, Ind.; seven 
grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a great, great-grandchildren. 
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon; a son, 
David E.; a grandson, Gregory Hettmansperger; a sister, Doris McCray; and an 
infant son, Ronald. 
Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ashtabula First Church of the Nazarene, 1820 
S. Ridge W., with the Rev. Michael Legg officiating. Burial will follow in 
Eastlake Cemetery in North Kingsville.

Charles A. Allshouse
CONNEAUT - Charles A. Allshouse, 82, of West Main Road died Sunday, 
Aug. 
9, 1998, in University Hospitals of Cleveland. 
Born Nov. 8, 1915, in Conneaut, he was the son of Harry and Mabel (Fralic) 
Allshouse. 
Mr. Allshouse retired from the P & C Dock Co. in 1977, after 30 years of service 
as a coal loader and Hulett operator. He was also employed by the former Nickel 
Plate Railroad as a fireman for 6 years. 
He was a member of the American Legion. 
He enjoyed fishing, boating and hunting. 
Survivors include three daughters, Bonnie Buckey and Linda Allshouse, both of 
Kingsville, and Nancy Dombrowski of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren; nine 
great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Danforth of Columbus; and a brother, 
Robert of Englewood, Fla. 
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary. 
There are no calling hours or service.
