He was born in Conneaut, OH, on February 22, 1923, to Stanislaus and
Apolonia Putnicki, and was the youngest of seven children.

Very early on, his athletic talents in baseball and football began to blossom.
He was known as “the Ted Williams of Conneaut” and later excelled in
college football. During his bowling career, he almost bowled a perfect 300 as
his team’s anchor.

After graduating Conneaut High School, he served his country as a Staff
Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon returning from his years in the service,
he went on to attend John Carroll University, where he was awarded the Varsity C
for his football prowess. He earned his Bachelor of Civil Engineering from
Marquette University. Later, he continued his education by attending Oregon
State University, where he rode a red bicycle back and forth to classes, and
earned his Master’s Degree.

George spent the majority of his career with the Health, Education, and Welfare
Department, and the Environmental Protection Agency, where he specialized in
water pollution control administration and, later, noise pollution. Upon
retirement from the government, he ran his own noise consulting firm and taught
at the University of Texas in Dallas.

But, for all he accomplished in life, the things that made him so special were
his love for people, his kind heart and a smile that would light up the room. He
loved playing every sport, later adding golf to the list. He loved going to the
horse races with his buddies and sometimes picking a winner. When blindness,
mobility issues and kidney problems limited his activities, he still loved
listening to sports, “talking horses” with his friends, and watching Mass every
day. He did his best to make every day count.

George Putnicki is survived by his daughter, Patti Putnicki; sister and
brother-in-law, Jane and Stephen Palagyi; some very special nieces and nephews,
Bill and Sunnie Putnicki, Rick and Susie Putnicki, Steve and Judy Putnicki,
Scott and Pam Putnicki, David and Ginny Arp, Stanley and Rene Palagyi, Mark and
Marty Crotty, Chuck and Deb Rathbun, Joyce Rathbun, Florence and Ralph Tenney,
Al and Judy Krulak, Diane and Jim Balint, and other nieces and nephews; and his
fabulous caregivers, Marian Pruitt and Amanda Hennessey, who gave him love,
along with their care.

George Putnicki was preceded in death by his parents, Stanislaus and Apolonia;
brothers, Stanley and Richard; and sisters, Sophia Kangas, Ann Rathbun, and
Joanne Sebetich.
