James E. Pal, Sr. 
   
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP — James E. Pal, Sr., age 81, of Plymouth Township, died 
Thursday, July 29, 2004, at his home. 
 
Born July 16, 1923 in Ashtabula, OH, he was the son of Julius and Bertha (Muscho) 
Pal. On November 15, 1952, he married the former Irene Rich. 
 
Before his retirement, he worked for the former P.Y. & A. Dock Company and 
Ashtabula Bow Socket. 
 
He loved Nascar Races, Raceway 7, working outdoors, spending time with his 
family, watching his grand and great-grandchildren grow-up, and his faithful 
companion, his dog, Holly. 
 
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cindy (Gary) Dunbar of Plymouth; sons, 
Jimmy (Dinah) of Plymouth, Joey (Rhonda) of Plymouth, Tony of Conneaut, Greg 
(Michelle) of Ashtabula, and Steve (Joanna) of Florida; 12 grandchildren; nine 
great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Joseph Pal of Ashtabula, and Alex Pal of 
Plymouth. 
 
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Julius and John Pal. 
 
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2004, at the 
GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 West 19th Street in Ashtabula, with the Reverend 
Glenn Warner officiating. Burial will take place in Edgewood Cemetery. 
 
Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until time of Service on 
Monday.

CONNEAUT — Anthony Paul Markijohn, age 71, of Chadman Street, Conneaut, OH, died 
Saturday morning, July 31, 2004, at Lake West Hospital in Willoughby, OH, 
following a lengthy illness. 
 
Mr. Markijohn was born in Conneaut on December 22, 1932, a son of the late Tony 
and Helena (Leonart) Markijohn. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean 
Conflict. 
 
Upon returning to Conneaut, he was first employed by the former Nickel Plate 
Railroad, Reactive Metals, and for many years was employed as a maintenance 
mechanic and machinist by Millenium Plant 1 in Ashtabula. 
 
Mr. Markijohn was a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church, and his hobbies 
included restoring antique and classic cars; following NASCAR; assisting family 
and friends with home projects; and biking with his neighbors. 
 
Survivors include his wife, Albertine (Watson) Markijohn, whom he married 49 
years ago; and three daughters, Janice (Jed) Speer of Massilon, OH, Bonnie 
(Charles) Ruth of Willoughby, OH, and Joyce (David) Weaver of North Canton, OH. 
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jared, Juliana, and Jadrien Speer, and 
Abigail and Katherine Ruth; and two brothers, Stephen and James Markijohn, both 
of Conneaut. 
 
His parents preceded him in death. 
 
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 4, 2004, at the 
Lakeview United Methodist Church with family members, Reverend Joseph Cooke and 
Reverend Robert Olthoff, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory 
Gardens with Military Honors. 
 
Calling Hours will be on Tuesday evening, August 3, 2004, from 7 to 9 p.m. at 
the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut.

CONNEAUT — Christopher E. Kimbrew, age 17, of Conneaut, OH, died Monday, August 
2, 2004. 
 
He was born May 30, 1987 in Conneaut, OH, a son of Richard E. and Rebecca 
(Sanford) Kimbrew. 
 
Christopher was a student at Conneaut High School and enjoyed riding his bike, 
skeet shooting, shooting bow and arrow, bowling, collecting trains, collecting 
Richard Petty memorabilia, and fishing. 
 
He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, but most of all, he 
loved caring for and watching over his little brother, Cody. 
 
Survivors include his parents of Conneaut; his brother, Dakota “Cody” Kimbrew at 
home; his maternal grandmother, Jerrine Sanford of Conneaut; his paternal 
grandparents, Arling and Juanita Kimbrew of Jefferson; his paternal 
great-grandmother, Betty Bramley of Painesville; his best friend, Shane Houston; 
and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. 
 
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Raymond Sanford; his 
paternal great-grandfather, Eugene Bramley; and his maternal great-grandparents. 
 
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2004, at the 
MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut, OH.

ASHTABULA — John Fetters, age 81, of Diane Drive, died Tuesday, August 3, 2004, 
at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home. 
 
Born August 24, 1922 in Portsmouth, OH, he was the son of the late Herbert and 
Edna (Schultz) Fetters. Mr. Fetters was a resident of Ashtabula for 54 years, 
and formerly resided in Lucasville, OH. 
 
He worked for Union Carbide for 34 years, retiring in 1987. He also worked for 
30 years, part time, at Bob Hill’s Plymouth-Chrysler Dealership in North 
Kingsville, OH. 
 
John enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with his family. He was a 
member of the Edgewood Nazarene Church. 
 
Survivors include his beloved wife, Viola Rose (Kent), whom he married June 18, 
1949 in Portsmouth, OH; a son, Christopher John and Christina of Harpersfield; 
four daughters, Michele Lyne and Ronald Hanobik of Chardon, Deborah Lee and John 
Konegni of North Kingsville, Ruth Ann Seton of Ravenna, and Connie Sue and 
Dwight Smith of Lucasville; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one 
great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters. 
 
Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2004, at the BURTON 
FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 1329 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, OH, with Reverend Kevin Ellis, 
of Edgewood Nazarene Church in Ashtabula, and Reverend Phil Howard, a cousin

KINGSVILLE — William Chunke, age 80, of Cemetery Road, Kingsville, OH, died 
Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at his home. 
 
Born February 20, 1924 in Johnstown, PA, he was a son of the late Michael and 
Ann Chunke. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II. 
 
He was retired from LTV Steel in 1989. 
 
Mr. Chunke was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ashtabula; a member of 
the Knights of Columbus; and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening, and 
spending time with his family. 
 
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Ashley) Chunke of Kingsville; son, Michael of 
Ashtabula; and two grandchildren. 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; and several brothers and sisters.

EL RENO, OK — Florence Donnelly, age 95, of El Reno, OK, passed away Monday,

She was born December 21, 1908 in Conneaut, OH, a daughter of William and Mary 
(Webster) Metcalf. She had been living in El Reno since 1990, moving from 
Riverside, CA. 
 
She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and was a Wimarine. 
 
Survivors include two daughters, Christine Moore and Jody Moore, both of El 
Reno; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis R. Donnelly. 
 
Private family services are to be held.

CONNEAUT — Kathy A. Ross, age 47, of Conneaut, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004, 
at her residence after a lengthy illness. 
 
Kathy was born June 20, 1957, in Conneaut, the daughter of Michael P. and 
Josephine (Carlo) Guarino. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated 
from Conneaut High School in 1976. 
 
She was formerly employed at the Conneaut Dairy Queen and was employed as a 
clerk with the Super Kmart at the Ashtabula Mall. 
 
Kathy was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Conneaut, where she was a CCD 
teacher. 
 
She enjoyed cooking, baking, flowers, and was an animal lover, especially her 
dog, Rocky. Both Kathy and husband Kenny enjoyed going to “garage sales” on 
Fridays and Saturdays. She also loved spending time with her family. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant sister, Mary Beth 
Guarino. 
 
Kathy is survived by her husband, Kenny Ross, whom she married July 22, 1993; 
two sons, Dean Bartone and Brian Bartone, both of Conneaut; a stepdaughter, 
Heather Ross of Geneva; a stepson, Damon Ross of Mentor; two brothers, Michael 
J. (Connie) Guarino, and Wayne R. Guarino, all of Conneaut; nieces and nephews, 
Mike Guarino, Michelle Guarino and Tony Guarino; and great-nieces and 
great-nephews, Carlie and Mike Guarino and Anthony Burkhartte. 
 
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 7,

CONCORD, N.C. — James E. (Jim) Buchanan, 69, formerly of North Kingsville, died 
Wednesday evening, August 4, 2004, at his home in Concord, N.C. 
 
A North Kingsville resident for twenty-five years, Mr. Buchanan moved to North 
Carolina nearly two years ago. 
 
He was born on Aug. 7, 1934, in Jamestown, New York, a son of the late Arthur T. 
and Virginia Jane (Beal) Buchanan. 
 
Mr. Buchanan served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was also a 
police officer in Jamestown before moving to this area, where he was a retired 
employee of Millennium in Ashtabula. 
 
Mr. Buchanan was a member of the Salisbury, N.C., Elks Club and also the Mason 
Lodge and Eastern Star. He enjoyed flying radio-controlled model airplanes and 
especially being a member of the Conneaut Boat Club with his sailboat “NAUTI-NESSY.” 
 
Survivors include his wife, Carol (Butters) Buchanan, whom he married on Oct. 
15, 1960; two daughters, Ginny Caulder of Omaha, Nebraska, and Victoria Orgel of 
Concord; three grandchildren; a sister, Jane Forbes of New Martinsville, West 
Virginia; and a brother, Doug Crowe of Olympia, Washington.

2004 at Ashtabula County Medical Center following a lengthy illness. 
 
He was born March 16, 1943 in Conneaut, a son of Frank and Hilda (Mace) Walford. 
 
A 1961 graduate of the former Rowe High School, he was employed as maintenance 
foreman at the Ashtabula County Courthouse. He was a member of the Kelloggsville 
Church of the Nazarene, and enjoyed fishing, coin collecting, and spoiling his 
grandchildren. 
 
Survivors include his wife, Linda (Hope) Walford, whom he married in 1967; two 
sons, Frank L. (Jerri) Walford of Cranberry, Pennsylvania, and Robert G. of 
Conneaut; his sister, June (Paul) Ryder of Dayton, Tennessee; and four 
grandchildren, Miya, Mariah, Brenda and Jaqi. 
 
His parents preceded him in death. 
 
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 12, 2004 at the
Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene, 4841 State Route 84, Monroe

MONROE TWP. — Ovella M. (Brummitt) Vencill, age 74, of Reger Road, died 
Friday, August 13, 2004, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center – Hospice Unit.
 
 
She was born March 5, 1930 in Wise County, VA, the daughter of Charlie and Clara 
(Payne) Brummitt and had been an Ashtabula resident for over 50 years.  
 
Prior to her retirement, she worked for Rockwell Plastics for over 29 years and 
briefly worked for Molded Fiberglass.  
 
A member of the United Auto Workers Union and the Pentecostal Church of God, she 
enjoyed gardening, family gatherings, hummingbirds, animals, her yard, and her 
children.  
 
Survivors include her husband, Ralph, whom she married on November 25, 1947; 
children, Allen (Ronnie) Vencill of Dorset, Gary (Lisa), Jesse (Diana), and 
Randall (Sheila) Vencill, all of Ashtabula, Timothy (fiancé Karla) Vencill of 
Sheffield Township, Carey Kevin (Jeannene) Vencill of Ashtabula, and Karen 
(Chris) Bowman of Monroe Township; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 
three sisters, Virginia (Ron) Carter of South Carolina, Ella Mae (Cyrus) Shipman 
of Painesville, and Della (Merle) Kessler of Geneva; and one brother, Harry 
(Janet) Brummitt of Geneva and Florida.  
 
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Earl, Virgil, Burlie, Jerry, and

ORLANDO, FL — Jack Reed Wheeler, age 83, of Orlando, FL, and a former 
Conneaut resident, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2004. 
 
He was born on January 4, 1921, in Conneaut, OH, to Walter and Naomi 
Wheeler and has resided in Florida since 1949. 
 
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Broadway 
United Methodist Church in Orlando. 
 
Mr. Wheeler is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; his sons, James Walter 
(Debby) Wheeler and Edward Reed (Cheryl) Wheeler; daughter, Ardella (Derrick) 
Foster; sister, Frances Hurtman; seven grandchildren; and three 
great-grandchildren.

ASHTABULA — Joseph L. Topper, 76 of Jefferson Rd., Ashtabula went to be with the 
Lord on Sunday, August 15, 2004 at his home. He was born January 4, 1928 in 
Ashtabula the son of Leonard and Margaret (Dunn) Topper and has been a lifetime 
area resident. 
 
He was a 1945 graduate of Ashtabula High School. He was a veteran of the Army 
serving in Germany. He was employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator with Local #18 
of Ohio Operating Engineers prior to his retirement. 
 
He is a member of the First Grace Gospel Church of Ashtabula where he was 
involved with church activities. He also did tutoring with adult literacy. He 
enjoyed reading, computers and spending time with his grandchildren. 
 
Surviving him are his wife Annie (Oliver) Topper; a son, Alan (Julie) Topper of 
Ashtabula; a daughter, Sandra (Dan) Frasure of Ashtabula; nine grandchildren, 
Wynona Alvord, Joshua Frasure, Brandon Frasure, Shawna Frasure, Amber Topper, 
Ashley Topper, Craig Topper, Christian Topper and Jordyn Topper; a great 
grandson, Brandon Lee Beal and two sisters, Marian Battles of Ashtabula and Lee 
Marr of Ashland, Ohio. 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Megan Topper. 
 
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the Ross-Billman

She was born August 29, 1931 in Conneaut, and a 1949 graduate and active

time and taking care of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling. 
 
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Raymond Germ of Geneva; her daughter, 
Debra (Robert) Ungers of Madison; son, William (Karen) Germ of Wooster; and five 
grandchildren, Tamara (Steve) Dyer of Macedonia, Karisa Ungers, Monica Ungers, 
and Daniel Ungers, all of Madison, and Aubrey Germ of Wooster; sister, Carole 
Williams of El Paso, TX; and brother, Robert Smith of Dentin, TX.

CONNEAUT — Susie A. Petrovski, age 73, of Conneaut, OH, died 
Thursday, August 12, 2004, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center, following a 
brief illness. 
 
Susie was born in Conneaut, April 2, 1931, the daughter of Peter and Mary 
(DeVecchi) Gurto. She was a 1947 graduate of Conneaut High School. She 
met, and in 1952, married her late husband, Robert, at St. Mary Church in 
Conneaut. 
 
Susie worked at Lerner's in Wisconsin, where she resided for several years, and 
loved to travel the Great Lakes with her husband, Captain Robert Petrovski. 
 
Mrs. Petrovski was a member of St. Mary and St. Frances Cabrini Churches. She 
enjoyed bingo, traveling, crafts, needlepoint, and volunteering at the gift shop 
at Brown Memorial Hospital, and spending time with family and friends. 
 
Susie loved to bake and cook for family gatherings, especially the annual "Gurto 
Family Reunions". 
 
She is survived by a sister, Florence Lewis of Conneaut; five brothers, 
James V. Gurto of Wexford, PA, Christy Gurto of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Anthony 
Gurto of Montpelier, OH, Frank Gurto and Pat Gurto, both of Conneaut; 
sister-in-law, Lorraine Gurto; and 29 nieces and nephews. 
 
Susie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 1987; sisters, 
Rosie Speer, Mary Moneypenny, and two infant sisters; and a brother, Joseph 
Gurto. 
 
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2004, at 4 p.m. at the 
RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut.

ASHTABULA — Dana Roger Currence, age 76, of Carpenter Road, died Tuesday, August 
17, 2004, at his home.  
 
He was born October 14, 1927 in Kedron, WV, the son of Robert and Nellie (Rowan) 
Currence and had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life.  
 
Prior to his retirement, he worked for the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational 
School for 12 years. He previously worked in the reclamation plant for the New 
York Central Railroad, and for True Temper.  
 
He enjoyed hunting, collecting guns and knives, and reading western books.  
 
His survivors include his wife, Barbara (Redmond), whom he married April 19, 
1947; five children, Terry of Savannah, GA, Robert of Jefferson, Linda Lee of 
Harpersfield, Tommy of Geneva, and Debra Luce of Saybrook; 24 grandchildren; 22 
great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Madeline “Pat” Currence of Mississippi, 
Evelyn Griffin of Georgia, and Wanda Berry of North Carolina.  
 
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lydia Currence; his stepfather, Bruce 
Riffle; and his parents.  
 
A Service will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2004, at Greenlawn Memory 
Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, 3140 East Center Street, North Kingsville. Reverend

NORTH KINGSVILLE — Carlos “Gene” Carr, Sr., age 73, of Gore Road, died 
Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.  
 
He was born October 28, 1930 in Alvon Springs, WV, the son of Samuel and Margie 
(Lambert) Carr.  
 
A Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he served during the Korean War.  
 
He worked as a supervisor for MC Robinson Co. and later owned and operated 
Action Fork Lift, San Jose, CA. He was currently working with his son at All 
Brand Fork Lift and Automotive in Ashtabula.  
 
Mr. Carr was a member of the Eagles, American Legion, and the East Ashtabula 
Club. He loved reading, golf, swimming, gardening, nature, his family, and his 
cat.  
 
Survivors include his wife, Loretta (Canter), whom he married June 17, 1953; 
seven children, Carlos Carr, Jr. and Mark Carr, both of Ashtabula, Allan Carr of
North Kingsville, John, Tim, and Adam Carr, all of California, and Debra 
Criscoe of Conneaut; 17 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; one brother, David 
Carr of Florida; and two sisters, Lucille Mason of Ashtabula and Rhoda Kirk of
Conneaut.  
 
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lacy, Edward, Robert, and Junior; and 
his parents.  
 
A Service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, August 23, 2004, at the DUCRO FUNERAL 
HOME, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula. Reverend Kenneth Roberts, Pastor of the

artist, Pam Woman, a persona she evolved after a number of life altering 
adversities. She is survived by her former husband, a son, and a brother, all of

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO – Former Ashtabula resident Mildred E. Cole, 79, died 
Thursday, August 19, 2004 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  
 
She was born February 11, 1925, in Ashtabula, the daughter of George A. and 
Bertha E. (Wirth) Proper and lived most of her life in / around Ashtabula County 
before moving to Colorado in 1997.  
 
Prior to her retirement she worked most of her life as a Baker and Cook, 
recently at The Shopping Bag and Buffet.  
 
Mrs. Cole was one of the first members of the Second Congregational United 
Church of Christ and was active in the Salvation Army Volunteer Home League.  
 
Her survivors include: Two sons Elwood A. “Al” Cole of Erie, PA and Retired Army 
SFC Edward J. Cole II of Pueblo, CO; three Grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 
four great-grandchildren; and one brother Lewis A. Proper of Erie, PA.  
 
Her husband of 36 years, Russell S. Cole; her parents; and one brother, Raymond 
A. Proper of Casper, WY, preceded her in death.  
 
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 27, 2004 at 2 PM at the Greenlawn

KINGSVILLE — Irene Ann Richardson, 77, of Main St. died Friday, August 20, 2004 
at INN CONN Nursing Home in Conneaut. Born August 17, 1927 in East Liverpool, 
Ohio she was the daughter of Elmer and Irma (Barrett) McConnell. 
 
Mrs. Richardson worked for GE making flash cubes for ten years before retiring. 
Irene enjoyed baking wedding and birthday cakes for family and friends, cross 
stitching, gardening, and was a big Cleveland Indians fan. 
 
Survivors include a son, Steve Richardson of Kingsville whom she made her home 
with; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; & one brother, Gene 
McConnell of West Fork, AR. 
 
She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin in 1983; granddaughter Melissa in 
1995; brother, Daniel McConnell in 1977; two daughters, Rhonda Johnson in 1988 
and Cheryl (Cookie) McCracken in 2001. 
 
Service will be Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Ducro Funeral

 Keith R. Bennett Sr. 
   
CONNEAUT – Keith R. Bennett, Sr., age 73 of Conneaut, died 
Saturday, August 21, 2004 at the Harrington Home in Conneaut. 
 
Mr. Bennett was born July 3, 1931 in Kedron, West Virginia, the son of James C. 
and Wanda Bea (Hornbeck) Bennett, Sr. He entered the United States Air Force in 
1948 and served until he was honorably discharged in 1952, obtaining the rank of 
Sergeant. Keith received the Korean Service Medal with Silver Star and six 
bronze stars for his Korean offense and defense. The National Defense 
Presidential and Distinguished Unit Citations, Good Conduct, Sharp Shooter, 
Sygman Rhee Medal and others during his service in the Korean War. He also 
served as an instructor at Fort F.E. Warren, Wyoming air training command. Keith 
retired from Linde/Praxair in 1995, after 43 years of service, where he worked 
as an instrument technician. 
 
Keith was a member of St. Mary Church in Conneaut, active in U.A.W. Local 
1834 and Democratic politics. He was elected to Precinct Committeeman, Vice 
President of the Democratic Club and teen Democratic Advisor and also the Korean 
War Veterans Association. 
 
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, being with family and friends, making leaded 
glass lamps, working in his garden and yard, his Air Force reunions and 
traveling. He loved country music and listening to his son's singing and playing 
guitar. Keith was also a dedicated blood donor for many years. 
 
Keith was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Patty, in infancy; 
brothers, James C. Bennett, Jr. and Floyd T. Bennett; step-mother, Vivian 
Bennett; his Aunt Blanche and Uncle Ralph Bennett, with whom he resided in his 
youth after the death of his mother in 1937, at which time he moved to 
Conneaut. 
 
He is survived by his wife, Clara Jean (Mate) Bennett, whom he married June 27, 
1953 at St. Mary's Church in Conneaut; his son, Keith R. and Diane 
Bennett, Jr, of Mentor, OH; grandchildren, Christopher Keith, Erin Marie and 
Joseph D. Bennett, all of Mentor; a brother Fred T. and Linda Bennett of 
Conneaut; and numerous nieces and nephews and god children. 
 
Mass of the Christian burial will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2004 at 10:00 
a.m. at St. Mary Church, Conneaut, with Father John Summers, pastor 
emeritus, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Pa — Former Conneaut and Ashtabula resident, Arlie R. McCoy of 
West Springfield, Pa., died early Saturday, August 21, 2004 at Pleasant Ridge 
Manor West in Fairview, Pa., following a short illness. 
 
Mr. McCoy was born on Nov. 30, 1927 in Morgantown, West Virginia, a son of the 
late Arlie F. and Rhoda (Eddy) McCoy. 
 
He was a veteran of World War II with the US Navy and had been employed at 
Plycraft in Conneaut for more than thirty years. Mr. McCoy enjoyed woodworking, 
collecting stamps and was an amateur locksmith. 
 
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy (Chris) Miller of West Springfield and 
Rose (Paul) Prescott of Conneaut; two sons, Arlie L. of Erie and David (Debi) of 
Conneaut; six grandchildren, Stephanie and Jason Turner, Christopher Horton, 
Brian McCoy and Michael and Joetta Miller. 
 
Four great grandchildren survive as do two brothers, Happy of Aikinson, N.C., 
and Lewis of Glasgoe, Kentucky. 
 
Mr. McCoy was preceded in death by his wife Betty, whom he married in December 
of 1956, and his parents. 
 
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at THE MARCY 
FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio with the Rev.

ASHTABULA – Lauri Johannes Toivola, 76, of Thayer Avenue died Tuesday, August 
24, 2004 at his home.  
 
He was born March 24, 1928 in Ashtabula, the son of Eino H. and Hilda (Tanttari) 
Toivola and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident.  
 
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and, after 39 years of service, retired from 
Reliance Electric in 1986.  
 
Mr. Toivola was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and enjoyed reading, 
traveling, sailing, and photography and was a longtime blood donor. In his 
younger years, he was a private pilot and belonged to the Lucky 7 Flying Club.
 
 
His survivors include his wife of 54 years, Marilyn (Ritari), whom he married 
April 15, 1950; three children, Eric (Marge) Toivola of Ashtabula, and Mark and 
Lori Toivola, both of Columbus; four grandchildren, Tawnya Housel, Theresa 
Clutter, and Leah and Sarah Toivola; two great-grandchildren, Antonio and Erica; 
and two sisters, Sylvia Barchok of Ashtabula and Aune Love of Kingsville.
 
 
He was preceded in death by one son, David Toivola; two brothers, Eino and 
Wayne; two sisters, Helmi Miller and Helena Uvena; and his parents.

KINGSVILLE — Joanne Mae Ingramm, age 68, of Lake Street (SR 193), died

She was born December 31, 1935 in Ashtabula, OH, the daughter of James and Helen 
Marie (Kuscsik) Clark and had been a lifelong area resident.  
 
A rural mail carrier for the Kingsville Post Office, she retired after 22 
years of service. She was also active in the Kingsville Volunteer Fire 
Department and coordinated the Kingsville Library Lawn Sale for 24 years.
 
 
A member of the Open Door Community Church, she loved to cook, crochet, and shop 
QVC and had an extensive porcelain doll collection.  
 
Her survivors include her husband, William Ingramm, whom she married September 
3, 1955; two sons, Dale (Viola) Ingramm of Ashtabula, and David (Karen) Ingramm 
of Orlando, FL; seven grandchildren, William, Stefanie, Ashley, David, Bryan, 
Danae, and Michelle; one brother, James J. Clark of Madison; and one sister, 
Norita Brenneman of Essex Junction, VT; and her daughter-in-law, Sharon Haas of
Conneaut.

KINGSVILLE — Daniel Byron Mixer, age 64, of State Road, passed away 
unexpectedly Friday, August 27, 2004, at his home. 
 
He was born March 31, 1940 in Ashtabula, OH, the son of Harold and Esther 
(McCann) Mixer and had been a lifelong county resident. 
 
A graduate of Ashtabula High School, he married Kay (Beaver) on August 16, 1959, 
at Bethany Lutheran Church. 
 
He retired in 2002 from Millennium Inorganic Chemicals, after 16 years of 
service, as an instrument electrician. 
 
A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he served from 1963 to 1965 with a tour in Korea. 
 
Mr. Mixer enjoyed hunting, fishing, country and bluegrass music, and the 
outdoors. He was an avid reader of American military history. A very patriotic 
person, he belonged to the V.F.W. Post #943 and the East Ashtabula Club. 
 
His survivors include his wife, Kay; two children, James (Kimberly) Mixer of 
Bloomington, IL, and Danette Mixer of Conneaut; three grandchildren, 
Brandon, Kailey, and Ashlyne; two brothers, David Mixer, and Harold Mixer, Jr., 
both of Ashtabula; and four sisters, Alice Gegan, Wanona Smith, and Esther 
Broad, all of Ashtabula, and Maribelle Shields of Conneaut. 
 
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kimberly Ann Mixer; two sisters,
