Doris A. Kananen
CONNEAUT — Doris A. Kananen, age 92, of Conneaut, OH, died early
Thursday afternoon, November 4, 2004, at the Inn-Conneaut Health Center
where she had resided for the past few years.
Doris was born August 20, 1912 in Klimer, NY, the daughter of Ralph and Eva
(Place) Pitt. She graduated from Klimber High School and has been a resident of
the area since 1936.
She was a member of the Four Square Gospel Church and enjoyed flowers, gardening
and sewing. She also loved to teach Sunday school years ago.
Mrs. Kananen is survived by her two sons, William and Betty Kananen of
Conneaut and Harland and Patricia Kananen of Daytona Beach, FL; a daughter,
Carol Yusko of Ashtabula; sisters, Phyllis Nox of Bryan, OH, Bernice Fardink of
North Klimer, NY, Sylvia Sprandle of Hendersonville, NC and Winifred Carris of
Ripley, NY; grandchildren, David Kananen, Robin Yusko, Shelly Kananen, Kimberly
Warr, Katheline Kananen, Jennifer Nott, Martha Kananen and Brant Kananen; and
three great-grandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Kananen (1958);
an infant daughter, Muriel A. Kananen; three brothers, Robert Pitt, Donald Pitt
and Howard Pitt; a sister, Virginia Volk; and a grandson, John Yusko.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, November 9, 2004, from 6 to 8
p.m. and Wednesday, November 10, 2004, from 12 p.m., noon, until 1 p.m. at the
RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 10, 2004, 1 p.m. at the
RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, with Reverend Armando Arellando, of East
Conneaut United Methodist, officiating. Burial will follow at Center
Cemetery, Conneaut.

MONROE – Robert S. (Bob) Furmage, 84 of Reger Road, Monroe Township, died
Friday afternoon, November 5, 2004 at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital, where he had
been a patient for the past three days. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m.
Sunday at the Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene, Rt. 84, Monroe
Township. Time of service on Monday at the church and complete obituary

Robert S. “Bob” Furmage
KELLOGGSVILLE — Robert S. “Bob” Furmage, 84, formerly of Church St.,
Kelloggsville, OH, died Friday afternoon, November 5, at UHHS Brown Memorial
Hospital, Conneaut, where he had been a patient since Wednesday. He was
born November 25, 1919, in Ashtabula, OH, and was a son of John and Angeline
(Stevenson) Furmage.
A Kelloggsville resident most of his life, Mr. Furmage was a veteran of
the U.S. Army and had served with the coastal artillery in Alaska during World
War II. He had been employed at Precision Piping, was former owner of Furmage
Heating and Air Conditioning, and drove bus for Buckeye Local Schools. Mr.
Furmage was a member of Pipe Fitters Local #120 of Cleveland, OH, and had
attended a number of trade schools.
He was an active member of Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene where he
served as Sunday school superintendent, church treasurer, member of the
trustees, and treasurer of the building fund. He was also involved in the
church’s construction by assisting with laying the block as well as many other
jobs. He enjoyed his family and deer hunting.
Survivors include his daughter Sue (Wayne) Johnson with whom he resided in
Monroe Township; two sons, Ken (Donna) Furmage of East Springfield, PA, and
Chuck (Jan) Furmage of Kingsville Township, OH; his sister Irma Nutter of
Heath, OH; 10 grandchildren, Justin, Rob and Rick Furmage of Conneaut,
OH, Christen Robison of Hancock, MD, Angela Furmage and Aimee Ferguson of
Ashtabula, OH, Austin Furmage of Kingsville, OH, Tiffany Maurer of
Norfolk, VA, Jeremiah Johnson and Heather Johnson of Monroe Township; 14
great grandchildren, Amanda, Josh, Edy, Ken, Brooke, Kathy, Tyler, and McKensey
Furmage, Myles Kapen, Jimmy and Ryan Robison, Bruce Britton, Jade Jones, and
Lauren Ferguson; and more distant relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Doris in 1985; his
second wife Neoma in 2004; and a great grandson Cody Robison.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Monday, November 8, at the Kelloggsville
Church of the Nazarene, 4841 State Rt. 84, Monroe Township, with the Rev.
Jerry A. Webb officiating. Burial will be in Kelloggsville Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the church on Sunday evening from 6 to 9 pm.

John R. Liimatainen
CHERRY HILL TWP., PA. — John R. Liimatainen, 81, died at his family homestead in
Cherry Hill Township, Pennsylvania, of a probable coronary on Saturday, November
6, 2004.
He was born there on January 12, 1923, a son of William and Liisa (Peltola)
Liimatainen.
Mr. Liimatainen was a graduate of Rowe High School in East Conneaut,
Ohio, and of The Ohio State University, earning a degree in architecture. He was
employed for many years as an architect in Florida, where he specialized in
commercial and residential buildings. After retiring, he spent summers on the
family homestead in Cherry Hill. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching the
History Channel and other learning channels, especially the program “This Old
House.”
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Ken Sippola, Doug Kesatie, Sandra Kesatie,
Judy Kesatie, Donna Ainsworth and Diana Cerny, and several great-nieces and
great-nephews, including his primary care giver Dennis Hollis of Girard, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ida Hollis, Ina Sippola
and Helvi Kesatie; and his brother, Eino Liimatainen.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at MARCY FUNERAL
HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio. Burial
will be in East Conneaut Cemetery.

Paul G. Campbell, Jr.
CONNEAUT — Paul G. Campbell, Jr., age 75, of Edgewood Drive, died
Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA.
He was born July 18, 1929 in Clifton Forge, VA and has resided in Conneaut
for the last 65 years.
Mr. Campbell was a retired engineer with the Norfolk and Western Railroads
“Cleveland Division” and also formerly employed with the New York, Chicago and
St. Louis R.R. (Nickle Plate).
He married Novellee Wetmore on December 13, 1952 in the First United Methodist
Church of Conneaut, where he has been a member for 63 years.
Since the age of four, he had continued his fascination of automobiles to later
become a confessed car-a-holic. He was a member of more than a half dozen
various automobile clubs, to which he authored and contributed stories, articles
and photographs of several of his antique automobiles. He also treasured the
companionship of his dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Novelle; and their daughter, Brenda Campbell of
Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Eloise Campbell; and his
sister, Betty Fox of Sarasota, FL.
At the request of Mr. Campbell, a private service will be held with Reverend Tim
Kraus, of the Church of Christ in Conneaut, officiating. Burial will be in
Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.

William J. Metcalf, Sr.
CONNEAUT – William J. Metcalf, Sr., 82, of Conneaut, passed away
Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, following a
short illness.
He was born Dec. 19, 1921, in Conneaut, and was a son of Samuel and Clara
(Denning) Metcalf.
A graduate of Conneaut High School, Mr. Metcalf served with the U.S. Army
during World War II with the 179th Infantry in the European Theatre and received
two purple hearts. He was retired from the City of Conneaut and had
previously worked for the Nickel Plate Railroad. He was a member of I.O.O.F. and
the Dokey’s. He enjoyed boxing and had participated in the Golden Gloves in the
post-war years. He also enjoyed sports and gardening, especially raising roses.
Survivors include his daughter Cindi L. Metcalf of Phoenix, Arizona; four
grandchildren, Robin Grieco, Becky Pugh, Brian Starkey and Brian “Boo” Bateman
and his great granddaughter Ashley Grieco.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 56 years, Wilma who
died on Oct. 23, 1998; his son William J. Metcalf, Jr.; his daughter Lorraine K.
Bateman; a grandson William J. Weimer; his sister Ruth Cool and three brothers,
Donald, Robert and Lloyd Metcalf.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 13 at MARCY FUNERAL HOME, 208
Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Chuck Graham, pastor of First United
Methodist Church officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday
from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Joseph M. Solembrino
ODESSA, UKRAINE — Joseph Marce Solembrino, age 66, died November 7, 2004, at his
home in Odessa, Ukraine.
Born in Chicago, Illinois to Anthony and Margaret (Cello) Solembrino, Joe spent
most of his early years in Ashtabula. He attended Ashtabula city schools and
served in the U.S. Army as a member of the famed “Hell-on-Wheels Unit” stationed
at Ft. Hood, Texas.
Joe was a multi-talented musician, singer and songwriter, who performed at many
casino and hotel productions in Florida and Las Vegas. He also excelled in the
architect and construction fields, designing and building many up-scale homes on
the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Following a debilitating illness which forced him to retire, he enjoyed
traveling and eventually settled in Odessa.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, and a grandson, Timmy Merril.
He is survived by his wife, Luda of Odessa; his mother of Jefferson, OH; seven
children, Faith McFarland of Ashtabula, Andrea (Joe) Papatta of Conneaut,
Joseph Marce Solembrino II of Ashtabula, Lori Baker of North Kingsville,
Neno Solembrino of Reno, Nevada, Jeff Solembrino of Salisbury of Salisbury,
Maryland, and Meghan Solembrino of Grasonville, Maryland; four brothers and
sisters, Madelyn (Joe) Goudy and Anthony (Connie) Solembrino, both of Ashtabula,
Michael (Shirley) Solembrino of Hagerstown, Maryland, and Caryl (Jack) Diemer of
Jefferson; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family.

JEFFERSON, OH — M. Corry Pifer, 85, formerly of Richardson Road, Monroe
Township, died Friday, November 12, 2004 at Jefferson Medical Associates,
L.L.C. in Jefferson, Ohio.
She was born on October 21, 1919 in Meersen, Holland, a daughter of Johannes and
Maria (Boes) Ploemen.
She was a 1946 warbride and had resided in Ashtabula County and Monroe
Township for forty years. She was a member of the Orien Lodge of Eastern Star in
Kingsville and enjoyed knitting, traveling, camping, baking, listening to
“Vienna” style music, and her flower gardens. She especially enjoyed spending
time with her grandchildren and her family.
She is survived by three sons; Robert E. Jr. of Westminster, S.C., David W.
“Sudsy,” and Gordon (Marilyn) Pifer both of Monroe Township. Also
surviving are two brothers, Josef and Crit Ploeman, a sister, Pauline Cabo all
of the Netherlands, and several grand and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert E. Pifer Sr., in
1996, and a brother, Pierre Ploeman.
Funeral service will be on Monday, November 15 at the Marcy Funeral Home and
Cremation Center, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut at 1:00 PM with Rev.
Stephen Wassie pastor of St. Andrew Catholic Church officiating. Burial will
follow at Rock Creek Union Cemetery.

CONNEAUT — Flora Bell Greenwalt, 101, of Parrish Rd., Conneaut,
died Saturday, November 13, 2004, at Inn Conneaut Health Center,
Conneaut. She was born on April 22, 1903, in Conneaut, a daughter of
Fred and Clara (Moon) Speer.
She was primarily a homemaker but had also worked for the Conneaut
Telephone Co., being one of the first telephone operators, and had assisted her
husband in the care of Glenwood Cemetery. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers
and enjoyed being with people.
She is survived by a daughter, Helen Giffin of Akron, OH; a half sister,
Patricia Chapman of Geneva; 2 half brothers, Richard Speer of Conneaut and
Francis Speer of Seattle, WA; 3 Grandchildren, Steve Greenwalt, LeAnn Reed and
Denise Featherstone. Also surviving are several grand, great-grand and
great-great-grandchildren; and a niece, Clarice Stewart, who was her care giver,
of Conneaut.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claud E. Greenwalt, in
1977; a son, Howard Greenwalt, in 1978; three brothers, Edgar, Robert and Harry
Speer; two sisters, Alice Williams and Luella Chapman; and a half sister,
Flossie Shaffer.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 18, 2004, at 1:00 P.M. at the Marcy
Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Rev.
Joyce Shellhammer, pastor of the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church,

Harry L. Strader
CONNEAUT – Harry L. Strader, 76, formerly of Poplar St., Conneaut,
died Monday, November 15, 2004 at Inn Conneaut Health Center in Conneaut.
He was born in Braxton, West Virginia on Jan. 15, 1928, a son of Okey L. and
Mary (Posey) Strader.
He was a Conneaut resident for forty-nine years, and was a member of
Lakeview United Methodist Church. He was a construction worker and was employed
with National Engineering as a bridge foreman. He enjoyed spending time with his
children and grandchildren, trapping, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by three daughters, Rose E. Caltrider of Clarksville, Tennessee,
Patty M. Smith and Nancy J. Nine, both of Conneaut; five sons, Donald L.
of North Kingsville, William L. of Houston, Texas, Randy L. of
Conneaut, Charles L. of Charlotte, North Carolina and Robert L. of Conneaut; a
brother, Daniel Strader of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; four sisters, Madge
Brown of Burnsville, West Virginia, Mary Riffle of Polland, Ohio, Dora E.
Childers of Canal Winchester, Ohio and Deignese Crabbe of Columbus, Ohio. Also
surviving are sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosemary Strader; a daughter
Connie Strader; two brothers, Ronald and Frank Strader and a sister, Wilma
Strader.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at MARCY

Blake W. W. Ryder
LAFAYETTE, IN – Blake W. W. Ryder, age 16, died Sunday, November 14, 2004, from
injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born December 30, 1987, in Ashtabula, OH, the son of Robert W. and Sandra
J. “Love” (Pratt) Ryder, and had lived in Ashtabula all his life until moving to
Lafayette, Indiana, five years ago.
A junior at First Assembly of God Christian Academy, Lafayette, he was a member
of the basketball and soccer teams.
Blake belonged to the First Assembly of God Church, was active in church youth
activities, and volunteered at the Hope Thrift Store.
He enjoyed golf, motorcycle riding, football and video games and was a true
animal lover.
His survivors include his mother, Sandra J. “Love” Keene, and her fiancé, Jeff
Thompson, of Ashtabula; his father and stepmother, Robert W. and Jacqueline
Houser Ryder of Lafayette, IN; one sister, Tiffany M. Ryder of Ashtabula; one
brother, Robert W. Ryder III of Ashtabula; one stepsister, Tracy Bowers of
Conneaut; two stepbrothers, Shawn and Nathan Houser, both of Conneaut; his
grandparents, Lewis and Barbara Pratt, and Robert W. and Elaine Ryder, all of
Ashtabula; and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents.
A Service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2004, at the Pentecostal
Church of God, 2201 Cook Road, Ashtabula. Reverend Kenneth Roberts, Pastor, will

Robert B. Buie
CONNEAUT — Robert B. Buie, 77, of Walnut St., Conneaut, died
Thursday morning, November 18, 2004, at his home. He was born January 1, 1927,
in Conneaut, a son of Ross V. and Orpha (Schriber) Buie.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, and was employed as a conductor with the Bessemer
and Lake Erie Railroad, retiring in 1979. Following his retirement, he relocated
to Mesa, Arizona, where he worked for the Mesa School District as a security
guard and groundskeeper. He was a member of the American Legion Cowle Post #151,
the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #408, and enjoyed camping, traveling and
spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Marion (Dinger) Buie, whom he married on November
15, 1978, in Conneaut; a daughter, Shirley Kae Peterson (Frank) of
Conneaut; two sons, Thomas P. (Regina) Buie of E. Springfield, PA, and David
R. (Donna) Buie of Girard, PA; three stepdaughters, Judy Mummey (Robert) of
Heath, OH, Janice Dufour (Jerry) of N. Kingsville, OH, and Carolyn Heath
(Larry) of Princeton, West Virginia; a stepson, Gary Dinger (Colleen) of Roaming
Shores, OH; a sister, Margaret Jamieson of W. Springfield, PA; a brother, Harold
Buie of South Carolina; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Evelyn Buie, in 1977;
two brothers, Ross V. Buie Jr. and Archie Buie; and a grandson, Robert David
Buie.
At Mr. Buie’s request, there will be no services or calling hours.

CONNEAUT — Lou Ellen Rindo, 91, of Conneaut, OH formerly of
Albion, PA, Lake Placid, Fla. and Diamondhead, MS, died on Thursday, Nov. 18,
2004.
She was born on March 1, 1913 the daughter of the late Gordon and Nelia Simons
Fobes.
She was a graduate of Albion High School in 1930 and received a B.S. and M.S.
degree in Education from Edinboro State University.
She retired from Northwestern School District as a 4th grade teacher. She and

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Albion, PA; Diamondhead
Community Church, Diamondhead, MS; Daughters of the American Revolution and a
Life member of the Eastern Star and past Worthy Matron. She enjoyed her family.
She was a lifelong crafter and loved to crochet and avidly enjoyed reading and
traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony J. Rindo, a daughter, Patricia
Lou Bien and a brother, Leslie Fobes.
She is survived by a son, Robert Rindo, (Caroline), Batavia, NY; three
daughters, Jane Maunus (Alan), Philadelphia, PA; Rebecca Rindo and Marjorie Kent
(Richard), both of Conneaut, OH; a sister, Phyllis Goldhart (Leonard),
Albion, PA; three brothers, Wayne Fobes (Ruth), Dale Fobes (Lynette), both of
Albion, PA and Russell Fobes, Crossingville, PA.
Further survived by nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and many
nieces and nephews.

PA Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church, corner
of Pearl and Franklin streets, Albion from 10 a.m. until the time service at

Charles R. Palo
MONROE TOWNSHIP – Charles R. Palo, 74, of Middle Rd., Monroe Township,
died Friday evening, Nov. 19, 2004, at the Harrington Care Home in Conneaut.
He was born Sept. 24, 1930, in Albion, PA, a son of John R. and Elsie (Paavola)
Palo.
He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines, and was affiliated with the North
Bloomfield and the Stateline United Methodist churches. He was a 35-yr. member
of the National Grange, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the
United Transportation Union, Local 596. He was a self-taught craftsman in
various areas, including welding, auto mechanics, home remodeling, construction,
finances and nutrition. He was employed with Lake Shore Steel as a welder, and
had worked on the boats on the Great Lakes, as well as being one of the original
construction workers when Route 7 was being built. He also had worked on the
Mackinac Bridge in Michigan. He retired in 1985 as a switchman for the Lake Erie
and Bessemer Railroad.
He is survived by five sons, Richard of Conneaut, Victor Palo La Costa of
Monroe Township, Rev. Vernon Palo (Karen) of Plymouth Township, Roger
(Tracy) of Conneaut, John (Melissa) of Detroit, Mich.; a daughter,
Rachael Merlene (Jeff) of Conneaut; his first wife and friend, Norma Palo
of Conneaut; twelve grandchildren; Joshua and Joseph Palo, Jason, Amanda,
Andrea Palo La Costa, Matthew and Megan Merlene, Evan, Amber and Erin Palo,
Richard Pal and Michael Palo; a niece, Elizabeth Van De List; and a nephew,
Kelly Palo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Nancy Palo, in 1998;
and a brother, John Palo.
Funeral services will be held on Wed., Nov. 24, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at the
Stateline United Methodist Church, 7321 Bushnell Rd., Monroe Township,
with his son, Rev. Vernon Palo, pastor of the Plymouth Community United
Methodist Church, officiating.

ASHTABULA — Viola S. Twitchell, 86, of the Ashtabula Towers, died Saturday,
November 20, 2004, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 24, 1918, in Conneaut, the daughter of Antti and Hilda
(Kauppi) Jarvi, and has lived in the Ashtabula area since 1954.
She attended Conneaut High School. She had been employed at General
Electric in Conneaut and the Betty Lee Restaurant in Conneaut.
She is a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ashtabula. She enjoyed dry
flower arranging, made her own potpourri, and enjoyed photography and animal
welfare.
Surviving her are a son, Richard Twitchell of Vernon Hills, Illinois; two
daughters, Nancy Hodson of Littleton, Colorado, and Mona Bogart of Conneaut;
four grandchildren, Shawn and Scott Bogart, and Kimberly Hewitt and Kevin
Hewitt; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Linwood of Sandusky,
and Leah Kleimo of Conneaut.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Twitchell, in
1977; a grandson, Brian Bogart; five brothers, Vernon, Ralph, Oliver, Fred and
Edward Jarvi; and three sisters, Sylvia Kantola, Martha Roboeski and Katherine
Schlaich.

CONNEAUT – Mary Grace Laitinen, 24 weeks gestation, died Sunday, November
21, 2004, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa.
She was the infant daughter of Donald and Pamela (Bidwell) Laitinen of

Besides her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Adam and Ryan, at home;
paternal grandparents, Paul and Mary Ruth Bidwell of Conneaut; maternal
grandmother Betty Laitinen of Conneaut; and her maternal
great-grandfather Paul Isaac of Lakeland, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Donald Laitinen Sr.; and
her great-grandparents.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at St. Mary Catholic

Curtis C. Kightlinger
CONNEAUT — Curtis C. Kightlinger, age 80, of Conneaut, OH, died
Monday, November 22, 2004, at the Villa at the Lake.
Mr. Kightlinger was born March 13, 1924 in Meadville, PA, the son of Roy and
Ethel Johnston Kightlinger. Curtis attended school in Meadville and later served
his country in the United States Army during WW II.
He worked for many years at the Union Carbide Metals Plant until he retired in
1981. He also was the owner/ operator of Kightlinger's Bait Shop on Broad
Street, in Conneaut for over 47 years.
Curtis loved to fish, pheasant hunting, deer hunting, cooking and making turtle
soup. He also bowled years ago.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Ethel (Chase) Kightlinger, whom he married May
24, 1946; three sons, Leroy and Lyla Kightlinger of Conneaut, Melvin
Kightlinger of Conneaut and Walter Kightlinger of Ashtabula; two
daughters, Norma and Patrick Hagerty of Conneaut and Betty and Tom Stone
of Madison, OH; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walter Kightlinger.

ASHTABULA — Geraldine R. “Jerry” Glosser, age 80, of Forest Drive, Ashtabula,
OH, died at her residence early Wednesday morning, November 24, 2004.
She was born September 7, 1924 in Conneaut, OH, the daughter of Cyril and
Catherine (Sheffler) Reno, and has lived in the area all of her life. She was
married to Wayne G. Glosser on November 25, 1944 in Conneaut, where they
lived until 1950, moving to Ashtabula.
Jerry graduated from Conneaut High School in 1942. She worked many
places, car hopping for the Big Pig Drive-In for 3 years until her children were
in school. She was a dental assistant for Dr. John Mumma, a vault teller for
Farmers Bank, and then a bookkeeper, secretary-treasurer for Wayne Glosser Co.,
Inc. She also became an independent Mary Kay consultant in 1981.
She enjoyed working for the St. Peters Episcopal Church where she was a
co-chairman of Mary Margaret Guild, as head buzzard, and was the one that
started the annual Thanksgiving Day Dinners, and was the head of those dinners
for many years, all with the help of many wonderful members of the church and
community.
She enjoyed her family, her home, and working in her yard and going to Las Vegas
and working at the church.
Survivors include three children, Bill Glosser of Ashtabula Township, Sue Gordon
of Candia, NH, and Catherine Glosser of Northwood, NH; one sister, Barbara Reno
of Conneaut; and two grandchildren, Samatha Gordon and Kelly Glosser.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; a son, Chris
Glosser of Conneaut; a grandson, Douglas Gordon of NH; and two sisters,
Jackie Rentschler and Jo Haas.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at
St. Peters Episcopal Church with a luncheon following the Service. Mother
Barbara Johnson will officiate. Burial of ashes of Jerry and Wayne will be at
1 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery in Conneaut.

CONNEAUT — Franklin D. “Bumper” Kessler, Jr., 36, of Conneaut, OH, died
Friday morning, November 26, 2004 of a probable coronary. He was born
February 6, 1968, in Conneaut, OH, and was a son of Zora “Kay” (Baughman)
Kessler and the late Franklin D. “Ray” Kessler, Sr.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, Mr. Kessler was employed as a welder in the
fabrication department at Kraft Maid. He was a member of Fraternal Order of
Eagles aerie #408, and loved hunting, fishing, and all sports. He enjoyed
coaching in C.L.Y.O. and Kingsville area Little Leagues, and spending time with
his family.
Survivors include his mother of Conneaut, Ohio; his wife Kimberly (Slay)
Kessler whom he married July 24, 2004; his daughter Kelsey Barnes of Conneaut;
three son, Jeff Slay, Franklin “Bucky” Kessler III, and Codey Kessler all of
Conneaut, OH; two sisters, Frankie Kessler Pierce of Conneaut and

evening, November 25, 2004 as the result of injuries sustained in an auto
accident. He was born July 26, 1968, in Conneaut, Ohio.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, Mr. Natto was employed as a press operator
at Venture. He enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, riding three-wheelers,
listening to music and playing guitar.
Survivors include his parents, Daniel (Becky) Natto and Vickie (Lloyd) Marcy;
his fiancee Brenda Britton; two daughters, Teala Natto and Destiny Natto; three
sons, T.J. Natto, Brandon Natto and Mike Castellano; two grandchildren, Bruce

KENNEWICK, WA — Nel E. Andrew, 86, passed away on November 22, 2004 at home in

Canada, New York, Conneaut, OH and Maple Heights, OH before moving to
California and Washington. Nel was active in the Tri-Cities Foursquare Church.

wide Missions were very dear to her.

N. KINGSVILLE – Janet Rae Blackson, 59, of Stucky Drive passed away at
home peacefully to join her Lord and savior on Friday, November 26, 2004.
She was born August 21, 1945 in Ashtabula, the daughter of Herbert and Ellen
(Baldwin) Stucky and had been a North Kingsville resident most of her
life except for the years she lived in Warren from 1964 to 1989.
A graduate of Edgewood High School and Trumbull Memorial Nursing School, she
worked as registered nurse for Warren General Hospital and later Ashtabula
County Medical Center.
An extremely talented lady, she drafted the blueprints (with no formal training)
for both homes she built with her husband. A dedicated member of the Edgewood
Alliance Church, she taught Sunday School and Women’s Bible Study.
She spent time daily in bible study and also enjoyed scrapbooking, traveling,
and collecting and visiting lighthouses.
Her survivors include her husband, Clifford R. Blackson, whom she married
December 16, 1967; three daughters, Kimberly LeFevre of Jacksonville, FL,
Kathleen Blackson of Conneaut, and Laura Blackson of Cleveland; two
granddaughters, Jayce and Marin LeFevre; and one sister, Judy Montovon of Stow,
OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A service will be held 1 PM on Monday, November 29, 2004 at the Edgewood

Douglas (Doug) William Gordon
CANDIA, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Douglas W. Gordon, 33, of Deerfield Road, died Saturday,
November 20, 2004 at his home after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Ravenna, Ohio on March 26, 1971, the son of Richard and Susan
(Glosser) Gordon.
Prior to his illness, Doug was employed by Easter Seals as the Director of Camp
and Recreation Services.
On Tuesday, Nov. 16, Doug attended the Easter Seals annual meeting where he was
given the President’s Meritorious Award for Outstanding Service by an employee.
Doug’s gift of kindness, generosity and leadership were expressed by Larry
Gammon, Easter Seals President: “Doug has touched and changed thousands of life:
staff, children with disabilities, parents, and other family members over the
years. His impact on those children will last generations through Doug’s ‘under
the radar’ style, thousands of young scouts, siblings and kids with disabilities
grow up and model for their kids that inclusion and acceptance in a natural way
of life.”

CONNEAUT — Marcella T. Moyer, 74, of Conneaut, OH, died at her
residence Sunday morning, November 28, 2004, following a short illness. She was
born May 9, 1930, in Conneaut and was a daughter of Vincent Pinney and
Elsie (Wheeler) Pinney Ross Allds.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, Mrs. Moyer had worked as a seamstress at
Dovercrest in Conneaut, Morell’s in Ashtabula and at the Little Miss in
Albion, PA, and was also a cook at various restaurants. She was a member of the
Conneaut Church of God, Aglow, and the Ladies Auxiliary of both Fire
Station 3 and Station 4 for over 50 years, serving as past president of Station
4’s group. She enjoyed hummingbirds and dancing, and loved caring for her
animals and her family, especially baby-sitting her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca (Bra) Rhoads of West Springfield, PA;
two sons, Bim Orrenmaa of Conneaut, and David (Mary) Russell of Cambridge
Springs, PA; two sisters, Fredaline (Manford) Thompson of Columbus, and Phea

PIERPONT — Dick L. Campbell, 62, of Pierpont, Ohio, went Home to
be with the Lord, on Saturday, November 27, 2004, at Ashtabula County Medical
Center, Ashtabula. He was born December 29, 1941, in Pierpont, and was
the son of Francis H. and the late Mildred E. (Moore) Campbell.
A lifelong Pierpont resident, Mr. Campbell graduated in 1959 from
Pierpont High School and was self-employed as a farmer. He was a member and
trustee of Pierpont Presbyterian Church, and was a former board of directors
member of Western Reserve Farm Co-op. He enjoyed farming, hunting, and fishing.
The most special time he enjoyed was spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra J. (Leonard) Campbell, whom he married August
12, 1961; father, Francis H. Campbell of Conneaut; three daughters,
Denise (Larry) Earley of Madison, Marjorie Seaman of Andover, and Lynne (Terry)
Winchester of Kingsville; six grandchildren, Andrew, Richard, Jonathan, Lauren,
Marc and Holly; two sisters, Faye (Robert) Fenton of Andover, and Marilyn
(Gerald) Mearini of Troy, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at the
Pierpont Presbyterian Church, 71 State Rt. 7 S., with the Rev. Ed Diehl
officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Pierpont.
Friends may call at the church on Tuesday evening, November 30, 2004, from 5 to
9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pierpont Presbyterian

Raymond J. Roberts
CONNEAUT — Raymond J. Roberts, 80, formerly of Center Street, Conneaut,
died Saturday, November 27, 2004, in St. Charles Hospital, Toledo, Ohio.
Born in Conneaut, February 4, 1924, the son of Dallas and Verna Roberts,
he had resided here most of his life, except for the past three years, during
which he lived in Woodville, Ohio.
Mr. Roberts retired from Union Carbide as a supervisor. He was a veteran of
World War II, during which he served with the U.S. Navy, and was a member of the
First United Methodist Church.
He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, and in his leisure time, he
enjoyed collecting stamps and coins. He especially enjoyed watching professional
hockey on television.
He is survived by his son, Raymond M., of Gibsonburg, Ohio, a daughter, Ann
Marie Holtz of Duluth, Minnesota, a stepdaughter, Rebecca Brzecek of Woodville,
Ohio; several grandchildren; three brothers, Jim, Walt and Chet; and three
sisters, Mildred, Dorothy and Earlene.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris.
Graveside services will be held in Glenwood Cemetery at the convenience

Marcella T. Moyer
CONNEAUT — Marcella T. Moyer, age 74, of Conneaut, OH, died at her
residence Sunday morning, November 28, 2004, following a short illness.
She was born May 9, 1930, in Conneaut and was a daughter of Vincent
Pinney and Elsie (Wheeler) Pinney Ross Allds.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, Mrs. Moyer had worked as a seamstress at
Dovercrest in Conneaut; Morell’s in Ashtabula; and at the Little Miss in
Albion, PA, and was also a cook at various restaurants.
She was a member of the Conneaut Church of God, Aglow, and the Ladies
Auxiliary of both Fire Station #3 and Station #4 for over 50 years, serving as
past president of Station #4’s group.
She enjoyed hummingbirds and dancing, and loved caring for her animals, and her
family, especially baby-sitting her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca (Brad) Rhoads of West Springfield, PA;
two sons, Bim Orrenmaa of Conneaut, and David (Mary) Russell of Cambridge
Springs, PA; two sisters, Fredaline (Manford) Thompson of Columbus, and Rhea
(George) Csepegi of Ashtabula; her brother, Wells (Rosemary) Ross of Monroe
Township; seven grandchildren, Brian and Kylie Orrenmaa, Shannon, Angel,
David, Joey, and Kelly Russell; and a great-grandson Donovan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Lloyd Ross; her
husband, Robert I. Moyer; a grandson, Jeffrey M. Orrenmaa; and a brother in
infancy.
Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 2004, at the Marcy
Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut, OH, with
the Reverend Raymond L. Lamb, of the Church of God, officiating. Burial will
be in East Conneaut Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, December 1, 2004,
from 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Conneaut Fire Department.
