MATTHEW L. RANDALL
CONNEAUT - - Matthew L. Randall, age 42, of Monroe Township,
Ohio, died Sunday morning, June 3, 2007, at his home.
He was born May 24, 1965, in Erie, Pa., and was a lifelong area resident.
He was artistically talented and enjoyed drawing and painting. He also enjoyed
motorcycles.
Survivors include his wife, Karol (Krenisky) Randall, whom he married July 2,
2002; his mother, Ella Mayberry (fiancé, Lysle Ely) of Conneaut, Ohio; his
grandmothers, Dorothy Randall of Albion, Pa., and Kay Krenisky of Conneaut; a
step-daughter, Amy Fallon of Ashtabula, Ohio; a step-daughter, Moonwind Simpson
of Conneaut, Ohio; two step-sons, Scott and Marty Simpson, both of Conneaut,
Ohio; eight sisters, Anne (Larry) Cottrell of Conneaut, Ohio, Margaret (James)
Schiavone of Conneaut, Ohio, Ida (Joe) Jordan of Las Vegas, Nev., Betty (David)
Priester of Albion, Pa., Wanda (John) Bastuk of Coalman, Mich., Marilyn
(Cherokee) Caloneheskie of Albion, Pa., Alice (Rex) Jackson of Lake City, Pa.,
and Bonnie Victor of Albion, Pa.; three brothers, Elmer (Helene) Randall,
William H. (Margaret) Randall, and Gary (Karen) Randall, all of Albion, Pa.; two
sisters-in-law, Florence (Lester) Randall and Harriet (Melvin) Randall; and a
number of nieces, nephews, and more distant relatives.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Cash Randall; and two brothers,
Lester and Melvin Randall.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 8, 2007, at the MARCY
FAMILY CENTER, 180 Harbor St., Conneaut, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of
MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, which

CONNEAUT - - Harry C. "Hank" West, age 46, of Conneaut, Ohio,
died unexpectedly Sunday, May 27, 2007.
Hank was born June 15, 1960 in Tacoma, Wash., the son of Myron and Loretta (Wiesen)
West and was a 1979 graduate of Conneaut High School. He was a Veteran serving
his country in the United States Navy in the CB’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James West in 2001.
Hank is survived by his cousins, Patricia Soares of Conneaut and Richard Soares
of San Antonio, Tex.
Graveside Services will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2007, at
Greenlawn Memory Gardens, N. Kingsville, Ohio, with the Rev. Tim Krause ,of
the Church of Christ, officiating.

JEFFERSON - - Beverly J. Benson, age 84, of E. Cedar St.,
Jefferson, Ohio, died early Wednesday morning, June 13, 2007, at the Jefferson
Health Center where she had been a patient the past four weeks.
Born Sept. 20, 1922 in Ashtabula, she was the daughter of the late Jerry J. and
Elva M. (Lyons) Benson and has lived in Ashtabula County all of her life.
She attended the First Baptist Church in Jefferson; and enjoyed traveling,
especially bus trips; going out to eat; and loved her pets. Beverly always
enjoyed telling stories and sharing the memories of the years she spent living
in the Probation House, when her father served as a Ashtabula County Sheriff and
Probation Officer.
She is survived by four cousins, Richard Benson of Conneaut, Jane Puffer of
Kingsville Township, Betty Goodale of Conneaut Lake, Pa. and Nick Kissinger of
Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three cousins, Bobby Casborne,
Phyllis Litwiler and Alfred Kissinger.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at the
Jefferson Home of the FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 49 W. Jefferson
St., Jefferson, Ohio, with the Rev. Gordon Emerson officiating. Burial will
be in Kelloggsville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Funeral Home.

JENNIE MASSUCCI
ASHTABULA - - Jennie Massucci, age 99, of Ashtabula, Ohio died
Thursday, June 14, 2007, at Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where
she had been a patient for the past 11 months.
Born May 13,1908, in Ashtabula, Ohio, Jennie was the
daughter of the late Amelia and Martin Massucci.
A lifelong area resident, "Aunt Jen", as everyone
called her, was employed as a seamstress at Brunners in the 1930’s. For 46
years, she owned and operated Massucci Sports Shop with her brother, Dominic
Massucci. A talented seamstress, she chenilled high school lettermen jackets
until her retirement at age, 80.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and
was devoted to reciting the rosary daily. She especially enjoyed playing cards,
baking Italian pastries and making raviolis and homemade pasta for her family
and friends. She was devoted to her nieces and nephews and especially adored the
newest additions to the family.
Jennie is survived by her brother, Dominic, and three
generations of nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were brothers Michael, Frank,
Arthur, and Louis Massucci; five sisters, Aussunta Milano, Madeline Fulk,
Florence Bruckman, Yolanda Incorvia, Mary Massucci; and her parents.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday,
June 18, 2007, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1200 E. 21st St. in
Ashtabula. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, N. Kingsville.

CONNEAUT - - Helen Elizabeth (Dodson) Campbell, age 87, a
resident of Inn Conneaut Nursing Home in Conneaut,Ohio went home to be with The
Lord on Friday evening, June 15, 2007.
Helen was born in Des Arc, Mo.,on Nov. 9, 1919, the
daughter of the late Dr. Leonard W. and Ellen M. (Davis) Dodson.
Helen became a licensed practical nurse and practiced
at hospitals in New Jersey, New York, and also in Brown Memorial Hospital,
Conneaut.
She was a member of the Conneaut Moose Club and also
enjoyed reading books.
Besides her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her
husband, Donald J. Campbell in 2005; two sisters, Geneva May and Frances Jane; a
brother, Robert Dodson and a son, Donald Dodson.
Helen is survived by a son, Leonard J. LaRue of Little
Rock, Ark.; two brothers, Samuel Dodson of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Leonard
Dodson of Florida; and a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Pat Campbell of
Conneaut,Ohio.
No calling hours will be observed.
A private burial will be held in Springfield Cemetery,
East Springfield, Pa.

CONNEAUT- - Evelyn Lucille (Zappitella) Baldwin, age 85,
formerly of Middle Road, died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at Inn-Conneaut Health
Center. She had been ill the last six months from cancer.
She was born Dec. 27, 1921, in Conneaut, Ohio, the
daughter of Carmine and Cora (Golden) Zappitella, and had been a lifelong
Conneaut resident.
She worked 38 years as an employee of the Astatic
Corporation.
Very active most of her life, she attended Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene,
and loved people, polka music, visiting yard sales and flea markets, and
cooking, especially for family and friends. She also loved animals, especially
dogs, cats, and birds, and was particularly fond of her dog, "Elvis."
Her survivors include three children, Carmen, Gary, and
Judy Zappitella, all of Conneaut; one sister, Marian Zappitella of Cleveland;
four brothers, Carmen (wife, Marilyn) Zeppettella of Conneaut, Frank (wife,
Carol) Zappitella of Anderson, S.C., Ivor Zappitella of Monroe Township, and
Clyde Zappitella of West Springfield, Pa.; one uncle, Robert Golden of
Kingsville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence
Baldwin, on Jan. 24, 1999; one brother, Lewis Carmen Zappitella; two sisters,
Rosemary (Ernest) Emery and Dora (Harold) Murphy; and her parents.
A service will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20,
2007, at the Greenlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, 3140 E. Center
St., N. Kingsville. The Rev. Jerry Webb, Pastor of Kelloggsville Church of the
Nazarene, will officiate. Entombment will follow.

CONNEAUT - - Emma Joan Witus, age 93, a resident of The
Villa at the Lake in Conneaut, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2007.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 4,
1914, the daughter of the late Marion and Charles Penko. She resided most of her
life in Cleveland and then in Geneva and Ashtabula.
She worked for years at Nela Park and then as a school
secretary in Cleveland.
Joan will be best remembered as being happy and cheerful, and joking with
everybody. She loved to read and to do crossword puzzles. In her earlier years,
she enjoyed singing, gardening, and baking magnificent cookies for her family.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Candace Doherty of Ashtabula; grandchildren,
Patrick and Kathleen McMillan, and Joseph and John Jr. Doherty;
great-grandchildren, Patrick Jr., Nicholas and Taryn Doherty, Ian McMillan, and
Riley and Flynn Doherty; brother, Robert Penko; and sister, Ruth Nebehay.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Charles Penko; her husband,
Stanley Witus; her sisters, Mary and Rose Penko; and her brothers, Joey and
Charley Penko.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20,

IRIS MAKYNEN
GIRARD, PA - - Iris Hauta Makynen, age 95, of Battles Village,
Girard, Pa., and formerly of Getz Road, Fairview, Pa., passed away peacefully on
Sunday afternoon, June 17, 2007, at Beverly Health Care Western Reserve.
Born on Oct. 13, 1911, in Muncie, Ind., she was a daughter of the late Franz and
Finna Johnson Hauta. Iris was a graduate of Conneaut High School and had been a
homemaker.
She had been a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church for over 60 years and was
a past member of Eastern Star, Gridley Chapter, Grottoettes, Women Patrol and
Kitchen Band. Iris was an avid Cleveland Indians baseball fan and was also
famous for her graham cracker pies.
In addition to her parents, Iris was preceded in death by her loving husband,
Raymond R. Makynen; her son, Arthur R. Makynen; and three sisters, Ingrid
Sinasalo, Elsie Getz and Elma Law Kantola.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Brumagin, and her husband, Harley, of Union
City, Pa.; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Makynen of Fairview, Pa.; four
granddaughters, Debra Brumagin, Lynn Staynoff, Valerie Chetoni and Suzanne Zalik;
five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

APOPKA, FL - - Mary Alice Church, age 68, of Apopka, Fla.,
passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2007.
Born Sept. 1, 1938 in Ashland, Kentucky, she was a
daughter of Clifford C. and Mildred (Bays) Church.
She was a loving Foster Parent to 165 children.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Charles David
Church in 2005 and Joseph Church in l967.
Survivors include her husband, William C. Church; son,
Robert C. Church of Deltona, Fla.; daughter, Victoria M. Allen of Maitland,
Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Delores (Harold)
Best of Conneaut, Ohio, and Bonnie (Michael) Williams of Missouri.

CONNEAUT - - Mary Jane Greenlee, age 82, of Conneaut, Ohio,
died Monday evening, June 18, 2007, at The Villa At The Lake.
Born Nov. 3, 1924, in Conneaut, Ohio, she was a
daughter of the late Anson C. and Lena (Holdson) Greenlee.
She spent her early childhood in Conneaut and lived
most of her life in Indianapolis, Ind., where she was a secretary at the
American Baptist Convention Headquarters, returning to Conneaut in 2001.
She made and sewed teddy bears and enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include her sister, Arline E. Greenlee of
Conneaut; nieces and nephews, Nyla Wells, Gary and Duane (Anita) Bogart of
Conneaut; her cousin, Margaret Hoskins of Conneaut; and extended family, Jean
Morris of Indianapolis, and Margaret Mather of Sharon, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother,
John Greenlee; and her sister, Ellen Bogart.
Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2007,
at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio,
with the Rev. Jonathan Singer, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.

Ohio, resident, died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at her home in Conneautville, Pa.
She was born March 14, 1956, in Painesville, Ohio, the
daughter of the late Woodrow and Janice (Little) Burcham.
A Conneautville resident for the past ten years, Becky
had been employed at Crawford Container in Conneaut, Ohio, and at Lesko Plastics
in Albion, Pa.
She enjoyed crafts, gardening, reading, and her dogs
"Buster", "Sassie", and "Bob".
Survivors include her mother of Geneva, Ohio; her
companion, Alan Slaybaugh; her brother, Tim (Vickie) Burcham of Monroe Township,
Ohio; and two nephews, T.J. Burcham of Chardon, Ohio, and Jake Fertig of Monroe
Township, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her father; and her
brother, Woodrow Jeffrey Burcham and his wife, Diane, and their two sons,
Timothy and Jeffrey.

CONNEAUT - - Evelyn M. Kimmy, age 80, of Conneaut, Ohio, died
Wednesday evening, June 13, 2007, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
She was born Oct. 25, 1926, in Frankfort, N.Y., and was
the daughter of the late Howard and Anna (Daniels) Bouck.
An area resident for most of her life, Mrs. Kimmy
retired in 1991 from Gunnison Brothers Tannery in Girard, Pa.
She was a member of South Ridge Baptist Church, and was
a past member of the Conneaut Optimist Club.
Evelyn enjoyed crosswords, crocheting blankets,
walking, bingo, gardening, cooking large meals for family gatherings, and
spending time with grandchildren and family.
Survivors include her daughters, Gloria Humphreys of
Conneaut, and Peggy Darty of Cleveland, Ohio; her son, John Hunt of Wattsburg,
Pa; grandchildren, John Hunt Jr., Roberta Hunt, Jeffrey Hunt, Tina Young,
Christine Young, Ronald Young Jr., Donna Newhart, and Brandon Darty; and several
great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first
husband, Elmer Hunt in 1967; her second husband, H. Walter Kimmy in 2003; her
sister, Shirley VanValkenburg; and three brothers, Judson, Ward, and Robert
Bouck.
Graveside Service will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, June 23,
2007, in Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut, Ohio, with Tim Kraus, of the
Conneaut Church of Christ, officiating.

JOSEPHINE R. PARISE
NILES - - Josephine Rose (Grohovsky) Parise, age 76, of Niles,
Ohio, left this world in the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 19,
2007, at her home.
She was born on March 18, 1931, in Campbell, Ohio, and
was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Yankle Grohovsky. Josephine
graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1949, where she proudly wrote
the schools Alma Mater which is still being sung today. In 1953, she graduated
from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown College with a degree in Music
Education and a major in Voice.
She began her teaching career at St. Columba and went
on to teach at elementary schools in several local districts including Campbell,
Niles and Liberty.
She was a former member of the Board of Education for
the Diocese of Youngstown; a former member of the Sigma Alpha Iota National
Music Fraternity; and she was also a member of the Catholic Women’s Guild. In
addition, she enjoyed a 65-year career playing organ and singing for many church
services and functions.
Josephine enjoyed reading, traveling, wintering in Cape
Coral, Fla., and the Cleveland Indians. She also enjoyed cooking; including
preparing annual spaghetti dinners for the seniors on her son, Ken’s, football
teams in Conneaut and Pymatuning Valley. For over 40 years, she was the "Golden
Voice" of the Annual Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Festival in Niles. She was a former
member of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Campbell and a current member of Our Lady of
Mt. Carmel Church in Niles. She shared her joy and love of life with her beloved
family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 year,
former Mayor of Niles, Joseph Parise; daughter JoMarie of Ocala, Fla.; three
sons, Joseph and his wife, Lisa, of Columbus, Ohio, J. Kenneth and his wife,
Jodie, of Conneaut, Ohio, and Jerry and his wife, Kathy, of Grand Rapids, Mich.;
and sisters-in-law, Fanny Altiero and Marian Grohovsky. She is also survived by
her loving grandchildren, Keelia, Dominick, Jaden, Gianni, Sarah, and Katie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her
brothers, John, Joseph Grohovsky and his wife, Laura, and Edward Grohovsky and
his wife, Sarah.
Friends can visit with the family on Friday, June 22,
2007, from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
Catholic Church in Niles.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made
to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 381 Robbins Ave., Niles, Ohio 44446 or to
Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
