MONROE TWP. — Stephen D. Gebe, age 64, of Monroe Township, Ohio, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 5, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Stephen and Mary Ann (Demyen) Gebe.

Stephen was an area resident for the past 32 years, and worked as a machinist for Kennametal in Solon, Ohio, retiring Feb. 1, 2006.

Survivors include his wife, Ann (Allen), whom he married June 17, 1978; his daughter, Sheri Gebe of Clearwater, Fla.; two sons, Eric A. Gebe of Ashtabula and Stephen Mark (Pam) Gebe of Conneaut; his sister, Shirley Gebe of Eastlake, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Stephen Gebe, Jr. and Krystin Gebe.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Elizabeth.

Funeral Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Frank Gore, of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Kelloggsville Cemetery, Monroe Township, Ohio.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home Friday from 12 p.m., Noon, until the time of the service at 1 p.m.

CONNEAUT — Former Conneaut resident, Mr. John Edward Kirkpatrick, also known as Gerald Wayne Wright, age 80, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, in Homer, Alaska.

John was born May 8, 1927, to Maurice and Beatrice Wright on an eight-acre truck farm on Salisbury Road in Conneaut, Ohio. A Veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy from May 1944-Oct. 1952, including 14 months aboard the U.S.S. Grayson DD 435 under condition red.

In 1960, he moved to Homer, the year after statehood, and worked as a painter and paperhanger.

He bought 15 acres of land, where he built his home. He met Aileen C. Ryan one week after she moved to Homer in 1971, as head nurse of the Homer Hospital. Married three months later, they had the greatest 35 years of their lives together, until her passing on Sept. 4, 2006.

According to John: “I had a wonderful life in Homer. I had no regrets. To those who were wondering why I changed my name when I moved to Alaska, I can only say that I liked the name John better than Gerald, so I legally changed my name.”

He is survived by his brothers, M. B. “Sam” Wright, Jr. and Richard R. Wright, both of Conneaut, Ohio, and David V. Wright of Paducah, Ky.; sister, Betty Pontius of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughter, Becky Suber of Sinclair Ville, N.Y.; son, Wayne B. Wright of Haines City, Fla.; grandchildren, Sylvia of Kenai, Alaska, Wayne Wright, Angel Finch, Jerry Wright and Billy Stuart, all from the Jamestown, N.Y. area; and about 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, in Homer.

CONNEAUT — Jack Ronald Leonard, age 69, of Englewood, Fla., formerly of Conneaut, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2007.

He was born August 30, 1938 in Ashtabula, Ohio.

Retired from the Pittsburgh Conneaut Dock Company, Jack was a thirty-year member of the Conneaut Lions Club and was twice past president; club secretary for many years; and past zone chairman. Jack was also a member of the BPOE Lodge 2378 and Moose Lodge 1933 of Englewood.

Jack was a Methodist and attended the Englewood Untied Methodist Church.

His love of baseball extended from playing American Legion baseball where he excelled at pitching and being an avid Cleveland Indians fan. He was also an avid fisherman and boater.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Leonard Asel, and grandson, Jacob Leonard.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda of 38 years; two sons, Jack Jr. (Nancy) and David Todd (Danielle) of Glen Allen, Va.; and daughter, Elizabeth (Sonny) of Beaver Dam, Va.; six grandchildren, Eric, Michael, Sara, Janie, Reid and Cameron; aunts, Mary Grady and Eleanor Leaman; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Phyllis Filing and Richard Filing; niece, Lisa Filing; and nephews, Tony Doddroe (Carin) and Stephen Filing.

Memorial Services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007 at First United Methodist Church, 283 Buffalo St., Conneaut, Ohio, with the Rev. Charles Graham officiating.

CONNEAUT — Margaret E. Palagyi, age 90, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Friday morning, Sept. 14, 2007, at UH Conneaut Medical Center.

Margaret was born March 29, 1917 in Conneaut, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Wassie) Lengyel. She was a graduate of Conneaut High School, Class of 1935, and then attended the Spencerian Business College in Cleveland.

She was very proud to have been employed with the Ashtabula County Treasurer's Office, and for 25 years she worked with the Nickel Plate and Norfolk and Southern Railroads as a clerk. She later retired from the Conneaut Water and Sewer Department after 10 years of service in the office.

Margaret was a member St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, where she married her husband, Andrew, on June 28, 1947. She was also a 70-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Conneaut Court # 413. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and especially loved to be a grandmother to Christopher and Kevin Wassie.

In her retirement, she volunteered at the Brown Memorial Hospital 50-50 Barn, and also enjoyed playing bingo, going shopping in Ashtabula, dining with her classmates, visiting family in Florida, and meticulously maintaining her yard.

Margaret is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Joan and David Wassie; grandsons, Christopher Wassie of Conneaut and Kevin Wassie of La Plata, Md.; one brother, James Lengyel of Conneaut; niece, Peggy Hoag of N. Kingsville; nephew, Robert Lengyel of Akron; a special cousin, Mary Draves of Fort Myers, Fla.; and other distant relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew in 1981; a brother, John Lengyel; a sister, Rose Specht; and a nephew, David Lengyel.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, at St. Mary Church, 480 State St., Conneaut, with Fr. Raymond Thomas as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.

Calling Hours will be held today, Sept. 16, 2007, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut. The Catholic Daughters of America will conduct Prayer Services at 5:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to the "ALL BABY RESOURCES PROGRAM" at the Catholic Charities. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.

CONNEAUT — Former Conneaut resident, Charles A. Harke, age 72, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, in Lakeland, Fla.

Born June 15, 1935 in Phoenix, N.Y., Mr. Harke was the son of the late Alvin and Edith Harke.

Mr. Harke worked as a pressman for the Great Lakes Printing Company and was also formerly employed by the Nickel Plate Railroad in Conneaut.

Mr. Harke is survived by two daughters, Gayle (Michael) Mulville of Bartow, Fla., and Pamela (Eric) Larsen of Peachtree City, Ga.; two sisters, Betty Ann Kantola and Joyce Cropek, both of Conneaut; and two grandsons, Andrew Mulville and Collin Golder.

Services were held in Bartow, Florida.

CONNEAUT — Robert Guy Sr., 79, of Conneaut, died Sunday, September 16, 2007, at the V.A. Medical Center in Erie, PA. He was born June 3, 1928 in Conneaut, the son of Ray and Clara (Ross) Guy.

Robert was a veteran of U.S. Army serving during World War II, and had worked for U.S. Scrap Iron as a crane operator. He was a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church, raced cars for many years at Raceway 7, enjoyed fishing, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Winifred (Kinney), whom he married November 29, 1950; his daughter, Carol Wright and her special friend Mark Ellingson, both of West Springfield, PA; two sons, Robert Guy, Jr., and Rickey (Bonnie) Guy, all of Conneaut; gradchildren Ed Guy, Tori Guy, both of Conneaut, Wendy (Jason) Bish of Albion, PA, Kayla Wright, Alford Wright, Kristy Wright, and Casey Sikora, all of West Springfield, PA; his step-granddaughter Charlene Lewis of Havelock, NC; three great-grandchildren, Devon Guy, Jeffrey Bish, and Peyton Bish, all of Albion, PA; and his brother, Homer Guy, of Girard, PA.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and step-daughter Kay Struchen.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. David Miller of Lakeview United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, OH, with military rites conducted by the Geneva VFW Post 6846.

Friends may call at the funeral home today, Tuesday, September 18, from 6 to 8 p.m.

DALLAS, TX — Jeffrey L. Gillette Molick, age 45, a former Ashtabula area resident, died Monday, August 20, 2007, in Dallas Texas, following a lingering illness.

He was born May 29, 1962 in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of Geri Patroske Gillette Molick and the late Jack Gillette. He was later adopted by Donald Molick after the death of his father.

Mr. Molick was employed in the maintenance/construction business and enjoyed reading, TV and radio.

Survivors include his mother of Wardensville, W. Va.; his brother, Christian Molick of Menlo Park, Calif.; and his maternal grandparents, Mary and Frank Behling of North Kingsville, Ohio.

He is preceded in death by his father, and maternal grandfather, John Patroske.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2007 in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, Ohio, with the Rev. Franklin Gore of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church officiating.

CONNEAUT — Betty L. Eimers, age 88, of Conneaut, Ohio, died early Monday morning, September 17, 2007, at her home following a brief illness.

She was born August 23, 1919 in Espyville, Pa., and was the daughter of Everett and Esther (Johnson) Walters.

A member of the first graduating class of Rowe High School in 1937, Mrs. Eimers had been employed at the W.T. Grant Co., the Goldette Co., and had worked part-time at the Board of Elections. She was an active member of East Conneaut United Methodist Church where she had attended since the age of five. She helped create live Easter Lily Crosses, had served on the Worship Committee, the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, and the Women’s Society. She was a member of East Conneaut Child Conservation League, a former member of Rose Chapter #22 Order of Eastern Star, was a former president of the Conneaut Republican Women, and had been active in the American Field Service when her children were in school. She enjoyed being with her family, making ceramics, playing the organ, flower gardening, and reading.

Mrs. Eimers is survived by her husband, Jack E. Eimers, whom she married September 13, 1941; three daughters, Mary Lee (Mark) Coxon of North Kingsville, Ohio, Susan (George) Nine of Monroe Twp., Ohio, and Kathleen (Doug) Simpson of Powell, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Michele (Dale) Otto, Christine (Mike) Myers, Eric (Michele) Thompson, Adam Coxon, Gretchen (Ed) Bunnell, Jacquelyn (Doug) Hummer, Julie Germovsek, Kyle Simpson, and Brooke Simpson; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jim Walters.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday September 23, 2007, at the East Conneaut United Methodist Church, 809 Furnace Rd., Conneaut, Ohio, with the Rev. Paula Marbury officiating. Burial will be in East Conneaut Cemetery.

At Mrs. Eimers’ request, there will be no visitation; however, a time of fellowship will follow the memorial service in the church dining room.

CONNEAUT — Barbara Haase, age 49, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at her home of a probable coronary.

She was born May 29, 1958 in Camden, New Jersey, and was the daughter of Siegfried and the late Ruth (Boehmer) Haase. A graduate of South Ridge Christian Academy, she had also attended Bob Jones University. She was employed in housekeeping at Inn-Conneaut Health Center and had also worked at Crawford Container.

Barbara attended the First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Survivors include her father, Siegfried, and stepmother, June Haase of Conneaut; her sister, Carol Hively of Conneaut; two brothers Gerhard (Alicia) Haase of Taylors, S.C., and Timothy (Becky) Haase of Findlay, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother on August 22, 2000.

Graveside Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2007, in City Cemetery, Conneaut, with the Rev. Dr. Rudolph G. Babcock, pastor of First Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating.

There will be no calling hours observed.

Dennis F. Hazeltine

CONNEAUT — Dennis F. Hazeltine, age 60, of Conneaut, died Thursday, September 20, 2007 at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio.


He was born April 29, 1947 in Conneaut, the son of Elwin E. and Edythe R. (Weaver) Hazeltine. Dennis had worked as a backhoe operator for the Pittsburgh and Conneaut Dock Company retiring February 18, 2004.

He was a member of the Conneaut Moose Club, and the Eagles Club. Dennis loved his grandchildren, was a kind hearted friend to many and could always make them laugh. He loved the outdoors, driving in the country, and Harley Davidsons.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean Hazeltine and her boyfriend, Roy Lane of Cleveland, Ohio, and Angela Hazeltine and her fiancé, Justin Martin of Mingo Junction, Ohio; four sisters, Sharon (Steve) Mitrovich, Patricia Feathers and Tony Mostello, all of Conneaut, Debra Theiss of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Pamela (Mark) Brady of Indianapolis, Ind.; two brothers, Wallace E. Hazeltine, and Gerald L. Hazeltine, both of Conneaut; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his best friend, Frank Sumner; and his brother-in-law, Michael Theiss.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, September 24, 2007, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with family friend, Carl Salters officiating.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Sunday, September 23, 2007, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

CONNEAUT — Charles Bowers, Jr., of Carl St., died Thursday, September 20, 2007 at his home.

He was born October 29, 1926 in Conneaut, Ohio to the late Charles Bowers, Sr. and Mazie (Kinney) Bowers. Charles was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WW II as a Staff Sergeant in the Philippine Islands. He was a Foreman for the PNC Dock Company retiring in 1985.

Charles enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church in Ashtabula, and had previously been a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Conneaut. Charles was a member of the Conneaut Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #472, Life Member of American Legion Cowle Post #151 and a Life Member of VFW Post# 2836.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Jeanette in 2006; brothers, Arthur and Harold Bowers; sisters, Matilda Rose and Dorothy West; and brother-in-laws, Vernard and Glenn Kinney.

He is survived by a sister, Gladys Ferguson of New Mexico; brothers, Donald (Charlotte) Bowers of Conneaut, and Bill (Delores) Bowers of Sheffield; sister-in-laws, Carol (Ken) Simon and Winifred Guy both of Conneaut; nephew, Louis (Shirley) Bowers of Ashtabula; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Midnight.

Funeral Services will be held at 11a.m. Monday, September 24, 2007 at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, with Mother Barbara Johnson, Rector of St. Peters Episcopal Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens where the American Legion Cowle Post #151will conduct military rites.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, September 23, 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
