WARREN R. BRUNELL
KINGSVILLE -- Warren R. "Bob" Brunell, age 63, of Kingsville,
Ohio, died Monday, February 27, 2006, in Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born Sunday, July 19, 1942, in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of the late
William Brunell and the late Margaret (Stitt) Brunell. He graduated from
Kingsville High School and was a Veteran serving in the United States Air Force.
He worked at Ashtabula Rubber Company, and for many years he worked with his
father-in-law at Doan Upholstery
He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Ashtabula, and he attended
Kingsville Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Senior Golf League at
Village Green Golf Course. He enjoyed bowling, pool, golf, hunting and fishing,
archery, remodeling, going to car shows and working on his 1966 GTO with his
son, Karl, and spending time with his family and his grandchildren..
Surviving are his wife, Carol (Daywalt) Brunell whom he married March 14, 1967;
a son, Karl (Shawn) Brunell of Parma, Ohio; daughters, Katie Brunell of
Bluffton, South Carolina, and Kara (Matt) Grill of Aurora, Ohio; three
grandchildren, Eve, Paul, and Isabel Brunell, all of Parma, Ohio; brother,
Theodore Brunell of Salem, Oregon; and two sisters, Marilyn Mitchell of
Kingsville, Ohio, and Georgene Barchanowicz of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Barbara Brunell in infancy
and Elaine Frazee; and one brother, William Brunell.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2006, at the
Ashtabula home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 526 West Prospect
Road, Ashtabula, Ohio.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2006, at the Ashtabula Home
of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., with Reverend Bonnie Habbersett,
of the Kingsville Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the
Lulu Falls Cemetery, Kingsville, Ohio.

at her home following a lengthy illness.

LOIS A. WEST
CONNEAUT -- Lois A. West, age 78, of Conneaut, Ohio, died
Tuesday morning, February 28, 2006, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born December 17, 1927, in Erie, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of
Vassar and Gertrude A. (Anthony) Sutherland.
A Conneaut resident for nearly 60 years, she had worked at one time as a
waitress at various Conneaut restaurants including the former Cleveland Hotel
and Jones Diner.
She attended the Federated Church in East Springfield, Pennsylvania, and was a
member of the Cancer Society and the Mothers Club. She enjoyed being with her
family, doing needlepoint, and cooking for her family for special occasions.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Charles L. West; four daughters,
Barbara West of China, Rebecca Spence of Wichita, Kansas, Laurie McGee of
Massillon, Ohio, and Bonnie Richards of Lake Wales, Florida; a son, Charles H.
"Chip" West of Conneaut; and two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Scott Richards.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Phyllis Lods.
Date and time for a Memorial Service will be announced at a later date
by the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut,
Ohio.
OSCAR O. PUNKAR
CONNEAUT -- Oscar O. Punkar,
age 96, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Tuesday morning, February 21, 2006, at The Villa
At The Lake.
He was born August 8, 1909, in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, and was the son of Thomas
O. and Maria H. (Varoo) Punkar.
A 1929 graduate of Conneaut High School, he was a hulett operator at the
Pittsburgh & Conneaut Dock Company, retiring in 1972 after 40 years of service.
Mr. Punkar was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and a member of
several Masonic organizations including: Evergreen Lodge #222, Conneaut Chapter
#76 (PHP), Conneaut Council #40, Cache Commandry #27 (PC), and York Rite.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Lou (Ronald) Rolland of Naperville,
Illinois; a step-daughter, Kathryn Raevuori-Wilson (Steve) of Deerfield, New
Hampshire; two step-sons, Andrew (Anni) Raevuori of Valencia, California, and
John (Kerry) Raevuori of Atlanta, Georgia; his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Punkar of
Vestal, New York; four grandchildren, Brian Punkar, Christine Martin, Jodi
Rolland, and Mark Rolland; two great-grandchildren, Peyton Rolland, and Alison
Martin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mildred L. Punkar; his
second wife, Martha K. Punkar; his son, Robert Punkar; four brothers, Emil
"Eddy", Conrad, George, and John Punkar; and his sister, Lillian Punkar.
A Memorial Gathering for friends and family will be held from 3 to 4 p.m.,
Saturday, March 4, 2006, at The Villa At The Lake, 48 Parrish Road, Conneaut,
Ohio. Burial was February 23, 2006, in East Conneaut Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western

JANE M. RHOADS
CONNEAUT -- Jane M. Rhoads,
age 75, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Tuesday evening, February 28, 2006, in the
Hospice Unit of Ashtabula County Medical Center following a seven-year illness.
She was born February 28, 1931, in Conneaut, Ohio, and was the daughter of
Milton and Leonarda (Fox) Ring.
A 1949 graduate of Rowe High School, she also attended Kent State University,
and was employed in the shipping department of General Electric for 25 years,
retiring in 1990.
She was a member and past matron of Rose Chapter #22 Order of Eastern Star, and
had served as mother advisor of Rainbow for Girls.
She enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening, and taking care of her family
and home.
Survivors include her husband, Cleo J. "Bud" Rhoads Jr., whom she married
September 1, 1950; two daughters, Sue Rostan of West Palm Beach, Florida, and
Peggy (Jim) Ames of Clarence, New York; her son, Cleo J. "Jack" Rhoads III and
wife, Lori, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; four sisters, June Thompson of
Boardman, Ohio, Mary Bunnell of Conneaut, Bess Koval of Cortland, New York, and
Rachel Speer of Pierpont; four brothers, Loren Ring of Monroe Township, Richard
Ring of Kingsville, Paul Ring of Alabama, and Milton Ring of Conneaut; a
granddaughter, Cathy Rostan; and four grandsons, Benjamin, Tyler, Philip, and
Jackson Rhoads.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
A Memorial Service will be held in May with date and time to be announced by the
MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut, Ohio.

MARION E. HARLEY
CONNEAUT - Marion Elizabeth Harley,
85, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at The Villa at the Lake in Conneaut, where
she has been a resident since 2000.
Her husband, Donald Charles Harley, died April 12, 2003. They were married June
21, 1940, in Austinburg.
Marion was born January 25, 1921, at the home of her parents, Jay and Bertha (Carkhuff)
Brail, on their farm in Austin-burg. She graduated from Grand River High School
in Austinburg. She and her husband lived in Ashtabula from 1940 to 2000, when
they moved to Conneaut. She was employed as a cafeteria cashier in the Ashtabula
Area City Schools for many years. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian
Church in Ashtabula (formerly Prospect Presbyterian), where she was active as an
elder, deacon, and a member of the choir and Women's Association. She chaired
the Christian Education Committee and spent many hours sewing, embroidering, and
making ceramics and crafts for the church's Crafts Fair. She also participated
in organizing and preparing funeral dinners for parishioners.
Marion's life centered around her large family, who spent holidays and Sundays
together at the Brail family farm in Austinburg. She and her husband attended
sports events in which her children and grandchildren took part, and stayed
actively involved in their lives. She was close to her sisters and
sisters-in-law, and enjoyed making quilts, sewing, and celebrating each other's
birthdays. She enjoyed sewing for her family and gardening.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Bruce A. Harley; her parents; her
sister Leona Park; and brothers George, Stanley, and Ralph Brail.
She is survived by her sisters Vera Brand and Roberta Fortier; brothers
Lawrence, Reed, and Donald Brail; a son, Wayne M. Harley of Nicholson, PA.;
daughter Brenda J. Korb of North Kingsville; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey D.,
Bradley J., and Gregory S. Korb, Craig D. and Michael Harley, Jennifer L.
McReynolds and Angela K. Thompson; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held 1 hour prior to the funeral service. The funeral
service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Prospect Avenue, Ashtabula,
on Saturday, March 4, 2006, at 11 a.m. followed by the burial at Ridgeview
Cemetery in Ashtabula Township. The Rev. Arvid Whitmore, pastor of Trinity
Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
CHILDS AND WILLIAMS FAMILY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of
arrangements.

RUTH M. MCMANUS
CONNEAUT -- Ruth M. McManus,
age 88, of Conneaut, died Wednesday evening, March 1, 2006, at the Inn-Conneaut
Health Center, where she had re-sided for a few years.
Ruth was born July 24, 1917, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Harry and Ruth
(Doubles) Bynane. She was a Conneaut High Class of 1936 graduate and used to
work at the ticket booth in the Ohio State Theatre, which is where she meet her
husband, George, who also worked at the theater, as well as Mariann's Candy and
the former Conneaut Drug Store.
Ruth was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of
America and the Trainman's Union. She enjoyed puzzles, reading and watching
television, especially westerns. She loved to travel to Canada, to the Canadian
Locks, and also to spend time with her grandchildren and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George McManus (1996);
In-laws George and Dorothy McManus; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie McManus (2005);
a brother and sister-in-law, John and Gert McManus; brother-in-law Gail McManus;
two brothers, Edward and William Bynane; and two sisters, Kitty Morrow and
Eileen Robinson.
Ruth is survived by three sons, James and Michele McManus of Cleveland, John
McManus of Conneaut, and George and Beth McManus of Ashtabula; a daughter,
Patricia and Eric Dawes of Conneaut; a sister; Rita Bynane of Cleveland;
grandchildren James, Michael, Steve and DeeAnna, Christy and Linsey McManus, and
Ryan and Mathew Dawes; great-grandchildren Mirrette McManus, Blaine Steven
McManus and Trent James McManus, all of New London, Ohio.
A Mass of the Christian burial will be held Saturday, March 4, 2006, at 10:00
a.m., at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Raymond Thomas officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.

MYKOLA NECZEPORENKO
PIERPONT -- Mykola Neczeporenko, age 83, a longtime resident of
Pierpont, Ohio, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at his home after a brief illness.
Mykola was born September 2, 1922, in the Ukraine, the son of Tymofij and
Katyryna (Huson) Neczeporenko.
In 1945, Mykola wed Michalina Kotowycz. Five years later, they immigrated to the
United States. After a brief time in Maryland, they permanently located to their
home in Pierpont, Ohio.
He worked as a second shop operator for 34 years at R.M.I. Sodium, retiring in
1984. Outside of work, he enjoyed working on his farm.
Mykola was an avid reader and loved to fish. He devoted his life to his wife and
family. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Warren, Ohio.
Mykola adored his loving wife of 62 years. Together they raised three wonderful
children, Anna (Richard) Nicka of Wharton, PA, Tymofij of Pierpont, Ohio, and
Mykola, Jr. (Marilynn) of Kingsville, Ohio. He will forever be loved and
cherished by his grandchildren, Tricia Woods, Todd Neczeporenko, Joshua Nicka,
Nickol Nicka, Michael Neczeporenko, Jaclyn Neczeporenko, and his four
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, step-brother, and
daughter-in-law, Linda (Abbuhl) Neczeporenko.
Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 6, 2006 at the CHILDS &
WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME, 96 State Route 7, Pierpont, Ohio, with the Reverend
Father Robert Karl, pastor of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Warren

VIOLA P. COPECK
CONNEAUT -- Viola P. Copeck, age 91, formerly of Conneaut, died
Thursday, March 2, 2006 at the Kimes Nursing Home in Athens, Ohio.
Viola was born November 7, 1914 in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of John &
Theresa (Basinski) Minch. She graduated from high school and later went to work
at the former Goldette Clothing factory as a seamstress.
She also was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, a past president of the
Polish American Ladies, and a past president of the Ladies Society of the Nickel
Plate Engineersmen Association. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters of
America, the former Altar Rosary Society.
Viola enjoyed traveling and art. She loved to quilt at the Conneaut Community
Center and was an active member of the Artist Guild who enjoyed oil and
waterpainting.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles J. Copeck in
1994; brothers, Edward Grubke, Joseph Grubke, Theodore Grubke and Danny Grubke;
three sisters, Irene Kedzierski, Stella Trayford and Anna Reydak.
Viola is survived by one son, Charles J. and June Copeck of Columbus, Georgia;
three daughters, Lenora and Thomas Burns of Athens, Ohio, Charlene and Edward
Jones of Cranesville, Pennsylvania, and Dorothea and Roger Nolan of San Mataio,
California; three sisters, Rose Williams of Conneaut, Frances Reydak of
Sheffield and Mech Brown of East Springfield; grandchildren, Elizabeth Luehrman,
Laura and Nancy Burns, Karen Rogel, Jennifer Mahoney, William, David and Joanna
Jones, Charles, Richard and Joseph Copeck, and Hollis and James Nolan; and 10

ERNEST
E. EMERY
CONNEAUT -- Ernest "Ernie" E. Emery, age 76, died Monday, March
6, 2006, at his residence in Conneaut.
Ernie was born November 14, 1929, in Ashtabula, the son of George L. and Maryann
L. (Heartman) Emery. He graduated from high school and was an avid boxer. He
became a Golden Gloves Lightweight-Featherwieght Champion in 1947. Ernie went to
work for the former Penn-Central Railroad and then entered the service. He
entered the U.S. Army and served his country with the 308th Combat Unit in the
901st Transport Division.
Following an Honorary Discharge, he returned to Conrail and then the Nickel
Plate Railroad, and retired from the Norfolk and Southern as a Locomotive
Engineer. He was also a bee keeper at one time.
Ernie was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus
Council #627, having served all of the offices including Past Grand Knight; a
4th Degree Member of the Leo J. Kane Assembly; and was a member of the Blue
Army.
He also enjoyed gardening, playing the harmonica, guitar, and all music, model
railroad cars, playing cards, hunting, fishing, and antique guns. He especially
loved all his grandchildren, following them throughout their lives at all their
events.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosemary Zappitelli Emery,
whom he married June 28, 1951; four brothers, George, Earl, Roland, and Gordon
Emery; and three sisters, Alice Onion, Beatrice Catlos and Dorothy Emery.
Ernie is survived by four sons, Harry of Lake City, Pennsylvania, Charles and
Lorrie, Anthony and Emy, Oakey and Carmella all of Conneaut; daughters, Brenda
and Harold Bovee of Kingsville, and Rosemary and William Hill of Conneaut; 13
grandchildren, Chuck, Kevin, Wendy, Eugene, Cassandra, Karla, Joseph, and Ashley
Emery, Russell, Vanessa, Melessa, Jonathan, and Aaron Bovee; brother, Roger R.
Emery of Kingsville; and sister, Shirley Onion of Jefferson.

WILLOUGHBY -- Eleanor L. Anderson, age 79, of Willoughby, Ohio,
died Thursday, March 9, 2006, at Lake West Hospital in Willoughby.
Born May 13, 1926, in Ashtabula, she lived in Willoughby for the past 10 years,
and formerly re-sided in the Painesville and Ashtabula areas.
She was retired from Fisher Fazio Foods, where she was a cashier for 33 years.
She was a member of Painesville Senior Center, Painesville Grange, and Nazarene
Church of Painesville. She graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1944, and
dearly loved her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Paul) Gundersen of Westlake, and Karen
(Harry) Anderson-Rees of Chagrin Falls; and grandchildren, Benjamin and Emily.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; sisters, Florence Trumbull,
and Alice Granagen; and brother, Hilding Ericson.
Funeral Services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006, at BRUNNER
FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 8466 Mentor Avenue, Mentor, where the family

KRAY
NORTH KINGSVILLE - Joe Kray, age 85, of Maple Street, died
Thursday, March 9, 2006, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born April 16, 1920, in Cleveland, the son of the late Joseph and Matilda
(Stibi) Kray. He had lived in the North Kingsville and Kingsville area for over
50 years and was the retired owner of Kray Feed Company. For the past 20 years,
he and his wife had wintered in Florida where he was the "Mr. Fix-it" of the
trailer park.
An Air Force Veteran of World War II, he flew over 50 combat missions as a
flight engineer. He also served as a top turret gunner in a B17 while stationed
in Africa.
He was the past commander of American Legion Neal Post #743, North Kingsville,
and the last surviving member of the 40/8 organization. He served as an elder at
Kingsville Presbyterian Church, was a former member of the Kingsville Volunteer
Fire Department, and served as a North Kingsville police officer.
He loved his family, his glass collection, and his flower garden, appointing
himself to chairman of the "North Kingsville Beautification Committee."
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Donna (Burkhart) Kray, whom he married
March 2, 1944; children, David (Barbara) Kray of Kingsville, Mary (Larry) Herl
of Platea, Pennsylvania, Nancy Kray and Steve (Tina) Kray, both of North
Kingsville; 10 grandchildren, Julie (Paul) Cook of Kingsville, David II (Chris)
Kray of Kingsville, Matthew Herl of Mississippi, Joe (Sabrina) Herl of Girard,
Pamela (Kyle) Glasl of Albion, Valerie (Shawn) Johnson of West Springfield, Rory
(Michelle) Marshall of Jefferson, Tammy (John) Andrew of North Kingsville,
Timothy (Julie) Cusano of North Kingsville and Steven (Nicole) Kray of North
Kingsville; 10 great-grandchildren, Todd Cook, Erin Cook, Ryan Marshall, Ryan

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Theresa Brenner, Adele Clark, Hermina
"Min" McCloud, and Mary Kray; two brothers, Frank and Steven Kray; and his
parents.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, at Kingsville Presbyterian
Church, 3056 West Main Street, Kingsville. Reverend Bonnie Hebbersett, Pastor

CONNEAUT -- Gladys N. Reets, age 96, of South Amboy Road,
Conneaut, Ohio, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at the Ashtabula County Nursing
Home.
She was born July 23, 1909, in East Springfield, Pennsylvania, to the late
Charles and Nellie (Salisbury) English. She had resided in the Conneaut area her
entire life, and enjoyed wintering in Florida.
She was a member of the West Springfield Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses,
and enjoyed knitting and sewing.
Gladys is survived by her two daughters, Carol Kulik of Albion, and Maxine
Knight of Conneaut; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and three
great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles K. Reets; a son,
Charles Reets; sister, Velma Lewis; and six brothers, Albert, George, Hobert,
Cliff, Clair, and Merle English.
At her request there will be no calling hours. There will be a private family
service on Monday, March 13, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME,
345 Main Street, Conneaut, with Donald Bohrer, of the West Springfield Kingdom
Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, presiding. Burial will be at East Conneaut
Cemetery.

BEVERLY L. DUNNINGTON
CONNEAUT -- Beverly L. Dunnington, age 95, of Conneaut, Ohio,
died Sunday afternoon, March 12, 2006, at her residence following a short
illness.
She was born September 6, 1910, in Conneaut, and was the daughter of the late
Bert C. and Besse E. (Baker) Bailey.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, Mrs. Dunnington was employed at the former Astatic
Corporation, retiring in 1961.
She was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ;
Rose Chapter #22, Order of Eastern Star; and the Child Conservation League. She
enjoyed knitting, sewing, needlepoint, playing cards, crossword puzzles, and was
an avid reader.
Survivors include two daughters, Marijo (Frank) Puffer of Massillon, Ohio, and
Lois V. Dunnington of Lake Wales, Florida; a son, James Dunnington (Sheila) of
Farmington, New York; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pearl George Dunnington;
a son, Paul B. Dunnington; and a brother, Clyde Bailey.
Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at the MARCY FUNERAL
HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut, Ohio, with the Reverend
Rudolph G. Babcock, pastor of First Congregational United Church of Christ,
officiating, assisted by the Reverend Stephen T. Szilagyi, pastor emeritus.

CONNEAUT -- Rose T. Williams, age 94, of Conneaut, Ohio, died
Saturday morning, March 11, 2006, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
She was born May 27, 1911, in Buffalo, New York, and was the daughter of the
late John and Theresa (Basinski) Minch.
Her family moved to Green Road in North Kingsville, Ohio, when Mrs. Williams was
6 or 7 years old. A Conneaut resident since 1928, she had worked at the Conneaut
Can Company and the Goldette at one time.
She was a member of Amboy United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the
Happy Oldsters, the Loyal Bereans, and the United Methodist Women. She was also
a member of the Polish American Ladies, and loved volunteering at the 50/50 Barn
of Brown Memorial Hospital.
She enjoyed crafting, traveling, sewing, wallpapering, crocheting, and
especially enjoyed caring for neighborhood children, and was known as "Gramma
Rose."
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (Leonard) Simpson of Conneaut; a son,
Howard P. (Betty) Williams of Ashtabula, Ohio; two sisters, Frances Reydak of
Sheffield Township, Ohio, and Mech (Bill) Brown of East Springfield,
Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard M. Williams, in
1971, whom she married April 7, 1928; a daughter, Betty Phillips; sisters, Irene
Kedzierski, Stella Trayford, Anna Reydak, and Viola Copeck; and brothers,
Edward, Joseph, Theodore, and Dan Grubke.
Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Amboy United
Methodist Church, 554 West Main Road, Conneaut, Ohio, with the Reverend Tami
Shoup-Troutman officiating, assisted by Reverend Michael Grant. Burial will
be in Glenwood Cemetery.

-- Beatrice V. Coe, age 87, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Sunday,
March 12, 2006, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
She was born July 13, 1918, at Clapp Farm, Corn-planter Township, Venango
County, Pennsylvania, and was a daughter of the late Henry and Florence Kay.
Mrs. Coe had been a resident of Jefferson Geriatric Center in Jefferson, Ohio,
for the past 10 years. She had worked for Hercules Packing, retiring in 1981
after 20 years of service.
Beatrice was a member of the former Grace Lutheran Church in Conneaut, and
enjoyed music, handcrafts, family gatherings, and local travels.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Coe Jr. and wife Maureen, and John Coe and
wife Barb, both of Conneaut; six grandchildren, Christina Hyder, Teresa Yeast,
Tammy Otis, Jason Coe, Debbie Coe, and Tracie Getchell; and twelve
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth W. Coe Sr.; and
three sisters, Wilma Hilt, Henrietta English, and Loretta Tench.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at the MARCY
FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut, with the
Reverend Andy Warren of the First Assembly of God officiating. Burial will

LEESBURG FL - Elinore "Ellie" Cecelia Boreman, 70 of Leesburg
Florida formerly of Wooster passed away Sunday, March 12, 2006 in Leesburg
Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 13, 1935 in Conneaut the daughter of John and Helen
Evon Mate. On February 23, 1961 she married Charles N. Boreman who survives..
She was a Homemaker, a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Member of Catholic
Daughters for over 20 years, and past president of the Mothers of Twins Club in
Wooster.
Also surviving are her children: Cecelia (Joe) Shell of Decature IN, Charles Jr.
(Pamela) Boreman of Wooster, and Don (Karen) Boreman of Wooster. 1 brother John
(Jean) Mate of Mentor, 3 sisters Marguerite (John) Zappitilo, Gloria (Frances)
LaBounty, and Clara Jean Bennett all of Conneaut. 6 grandchildren and 1 great
grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law Keith
Bennett.

CONNEAUT - Marla Ann McBride,
8, of Conneaut, OH, ended her courageous battle with cancer on Monday, March 13,
2006. She was born August 5, 1997, in Buffalo, NY, and was the daughter of
Robert C. and Annette P. (Pedaci) McBride.
Marla and her family moved to Conneaut five years ago from Lockport, NY. She
attended Amboy United Methodist Church and was in the second grade at Lakeshore
Primary School. She loved life and especially enjoyed swimming, dancing,
baseball, soccer, drawing, music, school, and camping and fishing with her
father.
She leaves behind many loved ones including her parents; her brother Matthew at
home; grandparents, James and Carlene McBride of Conneaut, OH, and Edward and
Patricia Pedaci of Mentor, OH; her great grandmother Pauline Evanko of
Blairesville, PA; uncles and aunt, Jeffery McBride of Conneaut, OH, and Tricia (Pedaci)
and Charles Price of Hudson, OH; and cousins William Price and Sophia Price of
Hudson, OH.

CONNEAUT -- Richard J. Rantamaki, age 65, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Wednesday
evening, March 15, 2006, at his home following a year’s illness.
Born August 7, 1940, in Conneaut, he was the son of Toivo J. and Irene I. (Rigo)
Rantamaki.
A 1959 graduate of Conneaut High School, he was a lifelong Conneaut resident. He
was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Co. C, 137th Ohio
National Guard.
Mr. Rantamaki was employed as Chief Inspector from 1967 to 1971 at the Astatic
Corporation, Quality Control Inspector at Premix from 1971 to 1973, and worked
in maintenance at the Conneaut News-Herald.
He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God of Girard, Pennsylvania, Alcoholics
Anonymous, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Patti (Markijohn) Rantamaki, whom he married July
30, 1985; two daughters, Robin Rantamaki of Youngs-town, Ohio, and Christine
Rantamaki of Hubbard, Ohio; two sons, James Rantamaki of Ashtabula, Ohio, and
Richard Rantamaki Jr. of DaLuca, Georgia; two stepdaughters, Tammy and Tonya
Fisher of Erie, Pennsylvania; a stepson, Timothy Markijohn of Erie; five
grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
No visitation or service will be held.

great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Charles William
Parker, in 1967; her second husband, Howard B. Carmichael in 2001; her son,

and Conrad Doyle.

her life.

Boat Livery in Conneaut.
Sophie was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church and the Monroe U.M.
Women’s Society.
In her leisure time, Sophie enjoyed cooking, and especially spending time with
her grandchildren.
She is survived by her two sons, Edward and his wife, Gail Mathews, of Monroe
Township, and Robert and his wife, Judy Mathews, of Burnet, Texas; five
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Jennie Tobiasky of Monroe
Township.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Grant Mathews; daughter,
Jeanette Mathews; four sisters, twin sister Eva Szewczuk, Mary Bromfield, Verna Pyles, and Dorothy Sebio; and three brothers, William, Andrew, and Paul Szewczuk.

Regina was a resident of Rae-Ann Nursing Home for 28 years, and lived at Walden
Residential Nursing Center for the past nine years.
Regina is survived by her two brothers, Richard and Kim DiLiello of Conneaut,
and Andrew and Norma DiLiello of Mentor-on-the Lake; and several aunts, uncles,
nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

DOROTHY A. HALL
PIERPONT -- Dorothy Annette (Brayman) Hall, age 81, of
Pierpont, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, March 23, at
Country Club Retirement Center, from complications of a fall two years ago.
Born March 9, 1925, in Pierpont, she was a daughter of the late John and Ruth
(Sheldon) Brayman. A lifelong resident of Pierpont, she married Wilbur Hall on
September 20, 1941.
Dorothy was known as a very caring and giving person, always helping others. She
was a volunteer at ACMC/PAT, Contact, Red Cross, and Hospice. If anyone was in
need, she was there for them, offering her time and love.
She was a member of the Penn Line Church of Christ for most of her adult life,
serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Dorothy was honored with the Citizen of the Year award for community service by
the Mason Relief Lodge 284 of Pierpont. Her dedication to her community and
friends was never-ending.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Wilbur; a son, Jim (Linda) Hall of
Jefferson; a daughter, Ruth (Ed) Best of Ashtabula; four grandchildren, Derek
(Heather) Best of Colorado, Erin (Jeff) Rix of Pennsylvania, Kristi (John)
Hackworth of Pennsylvania, and Josh Hall of New York; seven great-grandchildren;
two brothers, Barney Brayman of Ashtabula, and Jack Brayman of California; and
one sister, Meribah McMillin of Conneaut.

CONNEAUT -- William L. Jackson, age 94, of Conneaut, Ohio, died
Sat-ur-day afternoon, March 25, 2006, at The Villa At The Lake, Conneaut, where
he and his wife of 65 years, Peg (Daggitt) Jackson, have resided for the past
five years.
He was born on November 27, 1911, in Dickson City, Pennsylvania, to William and
Elizabeth (Wheater) Jackson, and he served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves
during World War II.
Bill worked with the CCC on numerous projects during the Depression, then was
employed by the Wilson Lines, sailing the Great Lakes. He retired from the
former General Tire and Rubber Company in Ashtabula.
A member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, he was also a
50-year member of Evergreen Lodge #222 F&AM.
Bill enjoyed camping, walking, crossword puzzles, and tinkering around the
house.
He is survived by his wife; son, George (Ronnie) of North Carolina; daughter,
Mary (Chet) Adams of Conneaut; grandchildren, Sarah and Dan Jackson of Virginia,
Tracy Johnson, Greg (Lisa) Johnson of Guam, and Jason (Alanna) Close of
Missouri; and great-grandchildren Madison and Brady Close, and Reagan Johnson.
At Bill’s request, there will be no services. Private graveside services will be
held for the family at a later date.

She had been employed at Carlisle’s Department Store and Farmer Bank in
Ashtabula.
Mrs. Hakala was a member of the Second Congregational Church, the Covered Bridge
Chapter #591 Order of Eastern Star for over 70 years, the Daughters of the
American Revolution, and the Grottoets of Ashtabula.
Surviving her are three daughters, Sarah (Bob) Halman of Ashtabula, Susan (Bob)
Bernard of Hackettstown, New Jersey, and Jean (Paul) Tremblay of Avon, Ohio;
five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul E. Hakala, in 1989;
and a grandson, Bob Halman Jr. in 2004.

CONNEAUT -- Judith O. Struchen, age 71, formerly of Monroe
Township, Ohio, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, in Boca Raton, Florida.
She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, April 20, 1934, the daughter of the late
Fern and Dorothy (nee Weidler) Whitford.
Judith was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and the Monroe
Sirens.
She also enjoyed crafting.
Judith is survived by her husband, Clyde; sons, Michael and wife, Robin
Struchen, of Monroe Town-ship, Brian Struchen of Hartville, Ohio, and Randy and
wife, Mary Struchen, of Gowanda, New York; daughter, Kelly Heyer of West
Springfield, Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Monroe
United Methodist Church with Reverend Richard Smith officiating. A meal and
fellowship will follow the service at the church.
Memorials in Judith’s name may be made to the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department
or a local Girl Scout Troop.

CLARA M. HAKALA
ASHTABULA -- Clara M. Hakala, age 94, of Ashtabula, Ohio, and
formerly of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Conneaut, Ohio, died Sunday, March 26,
2006, at the Austinburg Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Born May 4, 1911, in Conneaut, she was the daughter of the late Carl R. and
Alice (Cornell) Blood. A graduate of Conneaut High School, she attended Miami
University in Oxford, Ohio.
She had been employed at Carlisle’s Department Store and Farmer Bank in
Ashtabula.
Mrs. Hakala was a member of the Second Congregational Church, the Covered Bridge
Chapter #591, Order of Eastern Star, for over 70 years, the Daughters of the
American Revolution, and the Grottoets of Ashtabula.
Surviving her are three daughters, Sarah (Bob) Halman of Ashtabula, Susan (Bob)
Bernard of Hackettstown, New Jersey, and Jean (Paul) Tremblay of Avon, Ohio;
five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul E. Hakala, in 1989;
and a grandson, Bob Halman Jr., in 2004.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006, at the Second
Congregational Church, 319 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, with Reverend
Glen Warner officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Friday, March 31, 2006, at the
Ashtabula Home of the FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 526 West
Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with an Eastern Star service at 6:45 p.m.
