DUANE W. MICKLE
CONNEAUT - - Duane W. Mickle, age 67, died Wednesday morning,
November 29, 2006, at U.H. Conneaut Medical Center.
He was born April 5, 1939, in Conneaut, the son of John F. and Norma G. (Ball)
Mickle.
A Conneaut-area resident most of his life, Mr. Mickle had also lived in Akron,
Ohio, Edinboro, PA, and Orlando, FL, for a short time. He had been employed as
manager at Conneaut Auto Parts, and also worked at General Aluminum in Conneaut.
He enjoyed coin collecting and going to auctions, Western movies, country music,
traveling, and camping in his younger years. He especially enjoyed going to the
State Street Diner every day for coffee.
Survivors include his father, John F. Mickle of Conneaut; two daughters, Laura
(Scott) Rood of Old Forge, NY, and Rebecca (Brian) Masuga of Akron, OH; his son,
Timothy (Sharon) Mickle, Sr. of Harmony, PA; two sisters, Dorothy Mazurek of
Flat Rock, MI, and Sharon (Richard) Ross of Smyrna, TN; two brothers, Dale "Pat"
(Mary Jo) Mickle of Jacksonville, NC, and Robert (Ann) Mickle of Myrtle Beach,
SC; two grandchildren, Jonathan Rood of Old Forge, NY, and Timothy Mickle, Jr.
of Harmony, PA.
He was preceded in death by his mother; his wife, Ann; his brother, John "Butch"
Mickle; and his sister, Sandra Ranowiecki.
Funeral service will be 12 p.m. Saturday, December 2, at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME
and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty Street in Conneaut, with the Reverend Jonathan
Singer, Pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10 until the time
of service at noon. Following the service at the funeral home, there will be a
time for sharing memories and refreshments at the Community Room at the Conneaut
Manor, 232 Harbor St., Conneaut, OH.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Conneaut Rescue Squad.
Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
VIVIAN W. NARDUCCI
CONNEAUT - - Vivian W. Narducci, age 88, formerly of Genesse,
Pennsylvania, and Cranesville, went home to be with the Lord Thursday morning,
November 30, 2006, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
Vivian was born August 3, 1918, in Wellsville, New York, the daughter of Vee C.
and Elsie (Lewis) Waterman.
She graduated from Genesse High School and later went to work at a munitions
factory during the World War II in Eldred, PA. She later moved to the area,
where she managed several area restaurants.
She enjoyed Saturday night card club, camping and spending time with her family.
She also enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening and was known for her green thumb.
Vivian especially loved her roses.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lebro (Lee) J.
Narducci, in 2004; and a brother, Gifford Waterman, when he was seven years old.
She is survived by one daughter, Shari and Joseph Sedmak of Conneaut; two sons,
Denny McKendrick of Conneaut, and Dale McKendrick of North Tonawanda, NY; eight
grandchildren, Tracy and Roger Palo, Jeffrey Sedmak, Megan, Stephen and Elaine
McKendrick, and Shauna, Dawn and Breck McKendrick; and seven
great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2006, at the
RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut, with Reverend Raymond
Lamb of Church of God officiating. Burial will take place at the convenience of
the family in Hillside Cemetery, Genesse, PA.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2006, from 2 to 4 p.m. at
the funeral home.

DAVID G. SHARP
CONNEAUT - - David G. Sharp, age 60, died Friday morning,
December 1, 2006 at U.H. Conneaut Medical Center.
He was born October 10, 1945, the son of Walter D. Sr. and Laina L. (Rankinen)
Sharp.
David had worked as a machine operator for Frederick Specialties Inc. in
Ashtabula. He was very mechanical.
He enjoyed walking, and was a member of the Conneaut Eagles Club.
Survivors include his companion, Bonnie Kovarik, of Conneaut; two sons, Jason
Sharp and John Sharp, both of Conneaut; three sisters, Betty Jane Eloranto, of
Indiana, Peggy Valenti and Shirley Bunnell, both of Conneaut; three brothers,
Jean Richard Sharp, Robert Sharp, and Ronald Sharp, all of Conneaut; and two
grandchildren, Jayme Lynne Sharp and Destini Rean Sharp.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister Judy Pataky; and two brothers
William Sharp, and Walter G. Sharp, Jr.
At the request of the family no service or visiting hours will be observed.

GARNET
W. MONTGOMERY
ASHTABULA - - Garnet Wayne Montgomery, age 81, of Ridgewood
Avenue, died Sunday, December 3, 2006, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
Born April 15, 1925, in Kedron, West Virginia, he was the son of Hobert and
Lottie (Simmons) Montgomery and had been an area resident since 1950.
A Veteran of the United States Army, he served during World War II before being
honorably discharged.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for the Ashtabula Bow Socket. After retiring,
he helped as groundskeeper for Village Green Golf Course in North Kingsville.
A member of the First Church of God in Ashtabula, he loved golfing, bowling,
fishing, and most of all, his family.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Margaret (Deal), whom he married April
20, 1948; four children, Linda (Bruce) Pepple, Sandra (Brian) Hubbard, and David
Montgomery, all of Ashtabula, and Vivian (Ken) Green of Conneaut; seven
grandchildren, Ricky, Jason, Kristi, Cory, Brandi, Katrina, and Steven; two
great-grandchildren, Zachary and Tegan; and two sisters, Violet DeBarr of West
Milford, West Virginia, and Janet Black of Buckhannon, West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Claude Montgomery, in 2005; two
sisters, in infancy; and his parents.
Services will be held 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at the DUCRO
FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula, with Pastor Harold
Morgan, of the First Church of God, officiating. Burial will follow at
Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling Hours will be at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 5, from 6 to 8
p.m. and on Wednesday, December 6, from 12 p.m., Noon, to 1 p.m.

MARY KAISER
KINGSVILLE - - Mary Kaiser, age 85, of South Wright St.,
Kingsville, died Sunday, December 3, 2006, in the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
She was born in Kingsville, Ohio, on February 16, 1921, the daughter of Roy and
Della King. She spent her entire life in Kingsville. On June 15, 1943, she
married Palmer Kaiser.
Mary was a member of Bugby Grange #1639 and attended Kingsville Presbyterian
Church.
She loved to dance, play cards, and bowl. She and her husband raised dahlias and
had a big garden each year. Mary loved all kinds of animals, especially her
cats. She also enjoyed looking at family picture albums.
Mrs. Kaiser is survived by her step-daughter-in-law, Shirley Kaiser of
Charleston, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Terry Kaiser of Scottsdale,
Arizona, Trudy Jennings of Nashville, Tennessee, and Michele Dannaway of Newark,
Delaware; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Palmer, in 1986; half
brother, Robert Gray, in 1971; and stepson, Palmer Kaiser Jr., in 2001.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at 11 a.m. in
Kingsville Presbyterian Church, with Bonnie Habbersett, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in LuLu Falls Cemetery.
No calling hours will be observed.
Memorials in her name may be made to the Kingsville Presbyterian Church.

DONNA J. SMOTHERS
CONNEAUT - - Donna J. Smothers, age 59, died unexpectedly
Saturday, November 18, 2006, at her home of a probable coronary.
She was born August 10, 1947, in Erie, PA, and was the daughter of Richard and
Viola (Smith) Thompson.
Mrs. Smothers was a graduate of East High School in Erie, and later attended the
Knobler School of Nursing in Jefferson, graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse
in 1982. A Conneaut resident for over 40 years, she had been employed at the
Ashtabula County Nursing Home, the Ashtabula Clinic, Ashtabula County Medical
Center, and most recently at Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and enjoyed flower gardening,
camping and traveling, and being with her family and grandchildren. During her
travels, she had visited all of the lower 48 states.
Survivors include her husband, Michael David Smothers, whom she married May 7,
1966; two sons, Michael Donald Smothers of Conneaut, and Marc David (Stacy)
Smothers of Harpersfield; and two grandchildren Kaleb and Kyle Smothers.
Mrs. Smothers’ parents preceded her in death.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 480 State Street in
Conneaut, on Saturday, December 9, 2006, at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Raymond
Thomas officiating. It is requested that all meet at the Church at that time. A
celebration of her life will be held at Conneaut Fire Station #4, 359 North
Amboy Rd., following the Mass.
At Mrs. Smothers’ request, no calling hours will be observed.

STEVEN M. BUCCI
YOUNGSTOWN - - Steven M. Bucci, age 34, of Youngstown, Ohio,
died Sunday, December 3, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Hospital of heart disease.
He was born January 25, 1972, in Cleveland, the son of Fred and Joanna (Grubke)
Bucci, and moved to Conneaut in 1975.
He attended Conneaut High School, drove truck for several years, and was
attending I.T.T. Tech in Youngstown. Steve enjoyed art and computers.
Surviving are his parents; three sisters, Jill Bucci of Jefferson, Lisa Bucci of
Phoenix, Arizona, and Pam (Bucci) Wallhead of Nova, Ohio; his grandmother, Ella
May Bucci; and a nephew and niece.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Jean Grubke, and Tony
Bucci.
Per wishes of the family, no visitations or services will be held.
A memorial toast to his life will be held at Buccia Vineyard at a later date.
The family prefers that those who wish, make contributions to a Salvation Army
Christmas Kettle.

KIRKWOOD JR.
CONNEAUT - - Harry Kirkwood Jr., age 84, of High Street, died
Friday, December 8, 2006 at his home.
He was born December 22, 1921, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Harry
and Ruth (Clark) Kirkwood. He had resided in the Conneaut area for the past 55
years.
Harry graduated from Rowe High School. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran.
He retired from the City of Conneaut Street Department in 1983, as a heavy
equipment operator and mechanic.
Mr. Kirkwood was a 50-year member of the East Conneaut United Methodist Church,
and a member of Conneaut Moose Lodge #472. He was also a volunteer fireman for
Station 3; and in his leisure time he enjoyed making things from wood, fixing
things around the house, working on cars, fishing, and especially gardening and
growing beautiful flowers.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Phyllis M. (Figley); two
daughters, Cheryl (Robert) Devins of Lenexa, KS and Judy (Dave) Lewis of
Pierpont, OH; two sons, Jon (Lyn) Kirkwood of Albuquerque, NM, and Bill Kirkwood
of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Kevin Kirkwood of Orlando, FL, Sean (Janel)
Devins of Olathe, KS, Michael (Holly) Devins of Casper, WY, Dennis (Harmony)
Brisley, Jr., of Crossville, TN, Lacey Lewis of Pierpont, OH:

officiating. Burial will follow in East Conneaut Cemetery, where military rites
by the American Legion Cowel Post #151 will be performed.
At the families request there will be no calling hours.

CONNEAUT - - Emma J. Zoratti, age 87, of Chestnut St., died
Saturday, December 9, 2006, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.
She was born August 27, 1919 in Conneaut, daughter of the late Mike and Fannie (Pizzi)
Zappitello.
She graduated from Conneaut High School, class of 1937.
She had resided in Conneaut most of her life, and she lived with her daughter
for the past four years.
Emma had worked at Johnnies Market for many years, and helped her brother with
his catering business. In her leisure time she enjoyed bowling and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne (Richard) Skippon, of Conneaut; son,
David (Martha) Monroe of Pittsboro, N.C.; six grandchildren, Christine (David)
Kray of Kingsville, Brad Skippon of Conneaut, Rick Skippon of
Washington D.C., Lisa Monroe of Chicago, IL, Anna (Brad) Hatcher of Columbus,
OH, and Elsa Shadley of Philadelphia, PA; sisters, Helen Nappi of Ashtabula,
Ohio, and Angela Dysert of Conneaut; brother, John (Marguerite) Zappitello, of
Conneaut; and several nieces and nephews.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard Zoratti;
sisters, Minnie Capela, Mary Copple, and Flossie Murphy; brothers, Michael and

DANA D. MOSTELLO
ENGLEWOOD, FL - - Dana D. Mostello, age 87, of Eglewood,
Florida, died Thursday, December 7, 2006, at Luke Haven Health Care Center,
Venice, Florida, after a lengthy illness.
Born July 20, 1919, in Conneaut, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late
Michael and Mary (Vacco) Anthony.
Before her retirement and relocating to Florida, she and her husband owned and
operated Mostello Dental Lab in Ashtabula, Ohio.
Prior to her illness Mrs. Mostello enjoyed knitting and reading.
She received the most pleasure from time spent with family.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Ned; a daughter, Patricia (Richard)
Thompson of Englewood, Florida; a brother, Gordon Anthony of Conneaut; a sister,
Virginia (John) Mostello of Altamonte Springs, Florida; grandchildren, Derek
Blood of Lakeland, Georgia and Dawn (Gary) Bivens of Newberry, Florida; four
great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Albert, Carl and Michael Anthony, all of
Conneaut.

ERIE, PA - - Maureen R. (Jacobs) Pratt Sechrist, age 63, of
Erie, Pennsylvania, died Monday afternoon, December 11, 2006, at her home
following a lengthy illness.
She was born April 29, 1943, in Erie, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of
William J. and Virginia (Parker) Jacobs. A 1961 graduate of Girard (PA) High
School, Maureen had lived in the area most of her life.
She was employed in quality control at Springfield Plastics, and attended Asbury
United Methodist Church in Erie. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with
her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Valerie Niebling of Millcreek Township,
Pennsylvania; three sons, Michael (Tara) Pratt of Atglen, Pennsylvania, Charles
(Suzanne) Pratt of West Springfield, Pennsylvania, and Mark Pratt of Butler,
Pennsylvania; her sister, Linda Martin of Conneaut, Ohio; four brothers,
Robert J. Jacobs of St. Charles, Missouri, Charles G. of Conneaut, Ohio,
Thomas P. of Ashtabula, Ohio, and James A. of Youngsville, Pennsylvania; and 10
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, William E. "Jake"
Jacobs.

JULIUS A. PHILIP
CONNEAUT - - Julius A. Philip, age 67, of Conneaut, Ohio, died
Tuesday evening, December 12, 2006, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home. He was
born July 12, 1939, in Conneaut, Ohio, and was the son of Manuel and Elizabeth (Erdelyi)
Philip.
He was employed at MFG in Ashtabula until his retirement in 1999. He was a
member of the Conneaut Area Historical Society, and enjoyed music, model car
collecting, and crocheting.
Survivors include his son, Michael H. Philip of Geneva, Ohio; two brothers,
Manuel A. Philip and Albert J. Phillip, both of Conneaut; a grandson; and a
number of nieces, nephews, and more distant relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Stephen J. and Eugene
R. Philip.
At Mr. Philip’s request, there will be no visitation or service. Family
Graveside Services will be held at a later date in Glenwood Cemetery.

J. PALAGYI
CONNEAUT - - Louis J. Palagyi, age 85, of Conneaut, died
Tuesday evening, December 12, 2006, at his residence, with his family at his
side.
Mr. Palagyi was born on September 17, 1921 in Conneaut, the son of Joseph and
Anna (Beno) Palagyi. Louis was a 1939 graduate of Rowe.
He entered the United States Army in 1942 and proudly served his country until
he was honorably discharged in 1946.
Louis was an outstanding baseball player, and signed a professional baseball
contract with the Cleveland Indians in the late 1940’s. Following his baseball
career he worked at the Nickel Plate Railroad, the Bessemer Railroad, the
Conneaut Water Department and retired from the P. & C. Dock Company in 1982,
after 30 years of service as a welder and structural repairman.
Louis was a member of St. Mary Church in Conneaut, where he married his wife,
Mary (Pauline) Kostura on May 29, 1948. He was a former member of the Monroe
Athletic Club, the Harbor Hackers golf league, and loved to play baseball with
his brothers and family. Louis also enjoyed gardening, traveling in the family
motor home, wintering in Florida and working in the vineyards. He especially
loved making wine with his son, Ray.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, James, George, Andrew,
Joseph, John, Steven (Pete) Palagyi; and a sister, Anna Yusko.
Mr. Palagyi is survived by his wife; one son, Raymond and Jennie Palagyi of
Conneaut; three grandchildren, Kirt, Stacey and Angela Palagyi; a brother,
Michael Palagyi of Conneaut; a sister, Ethel Vento of Conneaut, and several
nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2006, at
St. Mary Church, 480 State St., Conneaut, with Father Raymond Thomas
officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut, with
the American Legion Honor Squad conducting full military rites.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 15, 2006 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7
to 9 p.m. at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.

HARRIET KEEFER
CHAMBERS
CONNEAUT - - Harriet Keefer Chambers, age 85, of Conneaut,
Ohio, died Tuesday, December 12, 2006, at The Villa at the Lake.
Born August 11, 1921, in Conneaut, she was the daughter of H. Ross and
Avis (Farington) Rhinehart.
A 1938 graduate of Conneaut High School, Harriet served as a bookkeeper at the
former Conneaut Drug Company, which she and her first husband owned and
operated. Following their retirement in 1982, they moved to Franklin, North
Carolina, where Mrs. Chambers lived for 17 years.
Mrs. Chambers was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ
where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was active in the Women’s
Fellowship. She was also a member of Rose Chapter #22 Order of Eastern Star and
a former member of Sorosis II. She also enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle.
Survivors include her daughter, Avis K. Marshall of Conneaut, Ohio; her sister,
Ruth Merrick Grice of Conneaut, Ohio; and nieces and nephews, Susan (Al) Wiley
of Ashtabula, Ohio, Robert J. (Sue Ann) Spangler of Rowlett, Texas, Scott

THOMAS D. COLE
MONROE TWP - - Thomas D. Cole, age 63, of Monroe Township,
Ohio, died unexpectedly Monday evening, December 11, 2006, at his home of a
probable coronary.
He was born April 5, 1943, in Conneaut, Ohio, and was a son of Frank A. and
Theodora (Kent) Cole, Sr.
A lifelong area resident, Mr. Cole was a graduate of Rowe High School and
received his B.A. degree from Kent State University in 1972. He began his
teaching career in the Grand Valley school system and also taught at junior high
level in the Conneaut Area School system for 14 years.
He owned and operated "Tom’s Fashion Interiors" with his wife Virginia. He
currently was employed by The Ohio State University Extension Office in
Jefferson, helping schools with program development and team building.
Involved with farming all of his life, Tom was a past president of the Ashtabula
County Fair Board and a member of Ashtabula County 4-H Hall of Fame. He was a
4-H advisor for many years, assisting in developing and improving 4-H’rs
projects. He also worked as a milk tester for Ohio D.H.I.A. for area dairy
farms.
Tom was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church where he was instrumental
in starting the church’s affiliation with the PHAKAMISA Missionary Program in
Pinetown, South Africa.
Tom enjoyed being around children especially his grandchildren, and working with
and taking care of his horses.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia (DeBow) Cole, whom he married April 25,
1964; his daughter, Denise J. (Jim) Sharp of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania; three
sons, Randy (Linda) Cole of Ashtabula, Duane T. Cole, D.D.S., and Brian D. Cole,
both of Monroe Township; eight sisters, Evelyn (Leonard) Burchfield of
Cochranton, Pennsylvania, Carolyn (Tom) Rodgers, June (Harold) Chess, Arlene
Cole, Patricia (Don) Horwood, Dorma (Ron) Ebersole, Linda (Jim) Fralic, all of
Conneaut, and Janice (Wesley) Patterson of Stoneboro, Pennsylvania; two
brothers, Frank A. (Patricia) Cole of Greenville, Pennsylvania, and Merle J.
(Arlene) Cole of Conneaut; two granddaughters, Hannah and Elaina Sharp; and
numerous more distant relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Pamela Lynne Cole in 1975;
three sisters, Shirley Huston, Marian Sammis, and Catherine LaPlace; and a
brother, William Cole.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2006, at the MARCY

CONNEAUT - - Susan D. Taylor, age 53, died Sunday, December 17,
2006, at her residence.
She was born on March 10, 1953, in Conneaut, the daughter of Andrew and
Marion (McCleary) Youhas.
Mrs. Taylor had been an Avon Representative. She loved animals, especially her
dogs.
Survivors include her husband, Terry; son, Robert (Janice) Taylor of Gilbert,
Arizona; and a sister, Millie Kaye Thuerkauf of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Private Services will be at the POTTI FUNERAL HOME, 2726 Hubbard Rd. in Madison,
Ohio, on Wednesday, December 20, 2006.

ASHTABULA - - Loving mother and grandmother, Ginger L. Griffiths,
age 54, of Ashtabula, died unexpectedly Sunday, December 17, at the home of her
daughter in Ashtabula.
She was born March 26, 1952, in Conneaut, the daughter of Edgar S. and
Viola (Armstrong) Erdman.
A Conneaut resident most of her life, Ginger attended Knoedler School of Nursing
and has worked since 1986 as a licensed practical nurse in several facilities
throughout the county.
Most recently she has spent her time caring for and enjoying spending time with
her family and grandchildren. She very much enjoyed doing arts and crafts, and
as a child, also enjoyed dancing.
Survivors include four daughters, Toni Iorio of Conneaut, Raffaela Iorio,
Christina Cooper, and Holli (Mike) McFadden all of Ashtabula; 14 grandchildren,
Heather, Justine, and Jordyn Paneto; Curry, Tre, Kurdell, and Shakur Williams;
Shayla, Vincent, and Drake Jackson, Jadyn, Jacee, Shane, and Teegan McFadden.
Also surviving are her mother Viola Erdman; two sisters, Jodi (Drew) Acierno and
Judy (Tom) Church of Conneaut; two brothers, Edgar "Butch" (Cecelia) Erdman of
Wellsburg, WV, and Terry (Pauline) Erdman of Colliers, WV; a number of nieces
and nephews; and her companion Santos Rivera.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1982; a brother Raoul "Sandy" Erdman
in 1943; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
A Graveside Service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2006, in
Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, officiated by Brother Harold

(Pretty) Foster, Sr.
A Conneaut resident for the past 16 years, she attended the First Assembly of
God, and enjoyed collecting bears, sitting on her front porch, and all of nature
in general.
Survivors include her parents, of Geneva; her husband, Daniel K. Nuzum, whom she
married June 12, 1976; two daughters, Virginia Nuzum of Conneaut, and Marsha
Nuzum of Las Vegas, NV; her son Kennith Nuzum of Painesville; two sisters,
Darlene Crumrine of Ashtabula, and Sandy Fetters of Valrico, FL; two brothers,
Robert Foster Jr. of Ashtabula, and Dan Foster of Bellington, WV; five
grandchildren; and a number of more distant relatives.

CONNEAUT - - Virginia "Jean" Capela, age 78, of West Main Road,
Conneaut, Ohio, died Sunday, December 17, 2006, in the Ashtabula County Medical
Center.
She was born February 26, 1928, in Ashtabula, to the late Harold and Mary (Wingett)
Fleissner. She had resided in the Conneaut area most of her life. Jean graduated
from Ashtabula High School in 1946.
She was a member of the Merchant Marines and the American Legion Cowle Post #151
Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Happy Travelers Group and enjoyed taking
trips to the Casinos.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed working in her yard and activities with her
friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Merry Kennedy of Conneaut and Jan Moeller of
Geneva; her son-in-law, Gene Moeller; and a granddaughter, Ursula Kennedy of
Erie, Pennsylvania.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank "Dutch" in 1990;
and a brother in infancy.

CONNEAUT - - Martha Teed Carle, age 83, former resident of
Conneaut, Ohio, died Saturday, December 23, 2006, at the Austinburg Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center.
Martha was born November 10, 1923, in Albion, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the
late Glenn and Flossie Wood. She had resided most of her life in Conneaut and
for the past seven years was a resident of Lady Lake, Florida.
Martha worked as a microphone inspector at the Astatic Corporation and was a
member of First Assembly of God. She enjoyed reading, playing bingo and her
beloved dogs.
She is survived by her son, James (Diane) Teed; three nieces; three nephews,
including David McLaughlin who was a constant support to her this past year.
Also surviving Martha are many loving great-nieces and nephew; and Caroline
Bullock, her caregiver in Florida.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger Carle in March 2006;
brother, Clair; and sisters, Thora Lovel and Donna McLaughlin.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, PA - - Velma I. Eagley, age 92, of West
Springfield, -ylvania, died Friday, December 22, 2006, at the Inn-Conneaut
Health Center.
Born in Lawrence, Kansas, August 12, 1914, the daughter of the late
Edward Vernon and Inis (Brown) Kirkingburg, she had resided in the West
Springfield and Conneaut area most of her life. She also resided in New York
City for three years.
Mrs. Eagley was employed at the West Springfield Post Office for 32 years, as a
postal clerk and also as Assistant Post Master. She also worked for the West
Springfield Telephone Company for several years.
She was a member of the West Springfield United Methodist Church, and belonged
to the Ruth Circle of the church. She was a member of the J.C.C.L. Mothers’ Club
of Conneaut, the Duplicate Bridge Club, was an avid reader, and enjoyed doing
crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her son, Paul (Connie) Eagley of West Springfield; two
grandchildren, Joe (Alana) Eagley of Farmingham, Massachusetts and Brandi
(Wayne) Browning of Rising Sun, Indiana; a sister, Joyce (William) Funk of
Conneaut; a step-sister Bonnie Schultz of Conneaut; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence; two sisters,
Alfrieda Stevenson and Beatrice Hazen; a brother, Vernon Kirkingburg; a
step-sister, Dorothy Hewitt; and a step-brother, David Barnard.

MONROE - - Gladys M. Batchelor, age 86, of Monroe Township,
Ohio, died Monday, December 25, 2006, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie,

She was born December 24, 1920, in Ashland, Ohio, the daughter of Clyde G. and
Ethel M. (Gerwig) Bishop.
A 1938 graduate of Conneaut High School, Mrs. Batchelor had been retired for 21
years from the former Webb Manufacturing after 15 years of service.
She was a former member of the Salem Rebekah Lodge, the First Baptist Church and
it’s missionary circle. She was a Cleveland Indians fan, an avid reader, and
enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii.
Survivors include two sons, Gary W. Batchelor of Monroe Township, Ohio and Scott
J. Batchelor of Cleveland, Ohio; and three sisters, Mary Conrad of Mansfield,
Ohio, Viola Beckwith of Dade City, Florida, and Vera Lemak of Conneaut, Ohio.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy H. Batchelor in
1965; a son, Lane Batchelor in 1965; her sister, Naomi Bryant; and three

CONNEAUT - - Polly D. Balliet, age 80, of Madison Street,
Conneaut, Ohio, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at her home.
Born in Ashtabula on January 12, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Walter
and Margaret (Peck) Yeager and has resided in Conneaut since 1955.
Mrs. Balliet was a member of the Conneaut Senior Citizens, the Conneaut Railroad
Museum, and she especially enjoyed being with her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Suzette Clemens of Conneaut, Sheila Cusano
of Monroe Township, and Suzanne Lott of Pierpont; five sons, David Herndon of
Garden City, Kansas, Edward Herndon of Conneaut, Fred Ellerkamp of Conneaut, and
Glenn and Larry Balliet, both of Conneaut; two stepchildren, Frances Williamson
and LeRoy Balliet, both of Conneaut; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Sally Downs of Conneaut.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy, in 1974;
and a sister, Kathryn Balliet.
Graveside Services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, in
Glenwood Cemetery with the Reverend Greg Evans, pastor of the Open Door
Community Church in Kingsville, officiating.

WILLIAM F. KINNEY
CONNEAUT - - William Francis Kinney, age 66, of Conneaut, Ohio,
peacefully returned to the Lord Thursday evening, December 28, 2006, in the
comfort of his home surrounded by his family. Bill was born October 15, 1940, in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was the son of James P. and Madeline (Hettrick)
Kinney.
Bill attended St. Augustine’s in Barberton, Ohio, Archbishop Hoban Catholic High
School in Akron, Ohio, Borromeo Seminary in Wickliffe, Ohio, Kent State
University, and Gannon University. Bill moved to Conneaut to teach Primary
School at St. Frances Cabrini, and met Ruth Ann (Smith) Kinney whom he married
on April 19, 1968.
Bill then went on to Webb Manufacturing as a personnel director. He owned
"Kinney’s Card Shop" in downtown Conneaut, and also worked as an agent with
Aflac Insurance.
Bill was active in the Conneaut community as President of the Conneaut Merchants
Association that helped revitalize downtown. He was a member of the Chamber of
Commerce and Conneaut Rotary Club. His love of the arts led him to participate
in the founding of the Conneaut Community Center.
Bill was able to live up to his true calling, helping others, while working at
Children’s Services in Ashtabula as a Child Care Worker. He completed Tier I and
Tier II of the Core Competencies for Child and Youth Care Workers as recognized
by The Ohio Association of Child and Youth Care Professionals, Inc. (OACYCP). He
served as Secretary of the Board of Directors of OACYCP. He was honored by the
State of Ohio with the Timothy E. Kuster Memorial Award for excellence in Child
and Youth Care in 2006 and by Ashtabula County in 2001 and 2003.
After retiring as a child care worker, he became certified with the JustFAITH
program to bring the Catholic social teachings to the community. He enjoyed
spending his free time playing dominoes with his granddaughters, scrabble with
his in-laws, and reading, traveling, and gardening.
Bill was known for his quick wit, long stories, and calming personality. He had
unyielding love for his family and friends and a deep concern for his community.
Those with the pleasure of knowing Bill know that his driving passion was
helping and comforting others.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 38 years, Ruth Ann (Smith) Kinney; his
brother, James J. Kinney and wife, Marilou, of Dahlonega, Georgia; daughter,
Heather (Kinney) Sinclair and her husband, Pete, of Buffalo, New York; daughter,
Heidi Kinney and her partner, Brian Eshleman, of Brooklyn, New York;
granddaughters, Erin and Emily Sinclair of Buffalo, New York; grandson,
Christopher Sinclair of Erie, Pennsylvania; and mother-in-law, Louise Smith of
Conneaut, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Jane Gainor; his son,
Sean William Kinney; and his father-in-law, Charles Smith.

Keith was a partner of Penniman Brothers Landscaping.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #472, and in his leisure time,
he enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and playing cards.

CONNEAUT - - Gloria W. Baugher, 71, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006.
At the families request there will be no local services.
Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery in
Eustis, Fla.

ROBERT G. ENSELL SR.
NORTH KINGSVILLE - - Robert George Ensell, Sr., age 65, of
South Main Street, North Kingsville, Ohio, died Saturday, December 23, 2006, at
his home.
He was born April 3, 1941, in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of Robert B. and Mary Jean
(Thompson) Ensell and had been a Kingsville, Ohio, and Rialto, California,
resident most of his life.
A 1959 graduate of Kingsville High School, he was an active athlete, excelling
in basketball and the pole vault. He attended Kent State University, Ashtabula,
before going to work for Structural Fibers of Chardon. He worked over 30 years
as a manufacturing manager, traveling to Belgium and California. He then worked
seven years in the warehouse and as an inter-company mail courier for the San
Bernadino School System.
Mr. Ensell enjoyed fishing, cooking, genealogy, gardening, photography, and
visiting old and new friends.
His survivors include three children, George (Karen) Ensell of Saybrook
Township, Michael J. (Kelly) Ensell of Kelloggsville, and Kimberly M. (Larry)
Walter of Tionesta, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Amber N., Ashley M., and
Courtney J. Ensell; three brothers, William E. Ensell of Houston, Texas, John A.
Ensell of Conneaut, Ohio, and Bradley E. Ensell of Pensacola, Florida; four
nieces; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at the
Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene, 4841 State Route 84, Conneaut, Ohio. The
Reverend Jerry Webb, Pastor, will officiate, assisted by Reverend Larry Carr. A
private burial will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends at the church from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday and
immediately following the service.
Contributions may be made to the family.

DOROTHY C. KAPELLA
CONNEAUT - - Dorothy C. Kapella, age 83, of Conneaut, died
Friday evening, December 29, 2006, at her residence.
Mrs. Kapella was born July 25, 1923, in Conneaut, Ohio, the daughter of Edward
and Rosia (Best) Gosche.
She attended Conneaut High School and later worked at the former Goldette
Clothing Factory. She was also a clerk at the former Pelton’s Store and worked
in production making windows at Webb Manufacturing.
Dorothy was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church and enjoyed oil painting and
tinting pictures and drawings. She loved to read and go on vacations to Maine
with her family. Several years ago she enjoyed helping Father Rich with
accounting duties at St. Frances Cabrini Church and was active with the church
festivals.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John J. in 1988, whom she
married June 1, 1946; a brother, Cletus Gosche; and two sisters, Bernadine Crews
and Mary King.
Dorothy is survived by a son, John (Jack) Kapella of Conneaut; two daughters,
Susan Guest and Dianne Kapella, both of Conneaut; grandson, Robert, and Martel
Guest of Pearland, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Abigail; and
several nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at
St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill Street, Conneaut, with Father Raymond
Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North
Kingsville, Ohio.
Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45
a.m. at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Frances Cabrini Church Capital
Campaign Fund.
Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
