BECKY J. METCALF
RINEYVILLE, KY - - Becky Jean Metcalf, age 54, of Rineyville,
Kentucky, died Thursday, August 24, 2006, at Jewish Hospital, Louisville,
Kentucky.
Born in Willoughby, Ohio, on August 25, 1952, she was the daughter of James and
Nan Temple. She graduated from Conneaut High School and spent most of her life
in Conneaut.
She worked at Summit Toyota Auto factory in Kentucky.
She is survived by her son, Mark Temple and Theresa of Corydon, Indiana; her
father, James H. Temple of Albertsville, Alabama; three brothers, James Temple
and Ruth of Rineyville, Kentucky, Brian Temple and Kathy of East Springfield,
Pennsylvania, and Richard Temple of Memphis; two grandchildren, Christopher
Temple and Andrea Temple; two half-brothers, Jim Temple and Al Temple, and one
half-sister, Lisa Temple, all of Alabama; five nieces, Molly Temple of Kentucky,
Danielle Szabo of Pennsylvania, Tiffany Temple of Wisconsin, Patty and Marc
Robertson of Ohio, and Sarah and John Snyder of North Carolina.
Her mother, Nan Williams Lauer, precedes her in death.

MARGARET G. COLUCCI
CONNEAUT - - Margaret G. (Colangelo) Colucci, age 80, of
Conneaut, Ohio, died on Sunday, September 3, 2006, at Inn Conneaut Nursing Home
following a brief illness.
She was born December 4, 1925, in Conneaut, to the late Joseph and Carmella (Narducci)
Colangelo. A graduate of Conneaut High School, she later married Adolph "Jug"
Colucci on June 18, 1949.
Margaret enjoyed watching soap operas, playing bingo, and watching sports,
especially the ones her grandchildren played.
Margaret is survived by her two sons, Jeff (Missy) Colucci of Conneaut, and Ken
Colucci of Cleveland; a daughter, Bonnie (Ron) Craig of Conneaut; grandchildren,
Jeff (Melissa) Colucci of Lake City, Pennsylvania, Troy Colucci of Conneaut,
Ronnie Craig Jr. (Billie Jo) of the United States Navy, and Tim Craig and Ashley
Craig, both of Conneaut; one great-grandson, Daniel Henderson of Conneaut; and
several nieces and nephews who were very dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adolph "Jug" Colucci;
brothers, Louie, Felix, Louis (Natalie) Colucci, and Michael (Carmel) Colangelo;
sisters, Dena Bartone, Rose (Herc) Urso, and Mary (Nick) Taddeo; and a niece,
Rhea Urso.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday,
September 7, 2006, at St. Frances Cabrini Church, Conneaut, with Father Raymond
Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6,
2006, at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut.

JAMES
R. DAVIS
PINELLAS PARK, FL - - James R. Davis, age 84, of Pinellas Park,
Florida, died Wednesday, August 30, 2006, in St. Petersburg, Florida.
He was born in Coshocton, Ohio, and moved to Pinellas Park, Florida, in 1983,
from Ashtabula where he was a school teacher for the Buckeye School System. He
was the director of Calvary Camp in Conneaut for 35 years. He served in the U.S.
Army Air Corps as a co-pilot and was a P.O.W. during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice K. Davis, of Pinellas Park, Florida; and
two granddaughters, Shannon Williams of Pinellas Park, Florida, and Kathy
Williams of Candler, North Carolina.

CONNEAUT - - Donna M. Ambrose, age 75, of Conneaut,
Ohio, died Tuesday, August 15, 2006, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
She was born October 18, 1930, in Conneaut, and was the daughter of the late
Derwin W. and Edna M. (Marker) Ely.
A 1948 graduate of Conneaut High School, Mrs. Ambrose resided primarily in
Conneaut, and had also lived in Ashtabula and Titusville, Pennsylvania.
She was a waitress at the former Garfield’s Restaurant in Ashtabula for many
years.
Mrs. Ambrose enjoyed telling stories, reading, and her dogs.
Survivors include her daughter, RoseAnn (Jack) Angerer of Conneaut; her son,
Edward (Cathy) Trutwin of Conneaut; her brother, Bill (Marie) Ely of Conneaut;
and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael R. "Babe"
Ambrose; her granddaughter, Terry Ahles; and her companion, August W. Tiberio.
Graveside Service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, September 11, 2006, in Glenwood
Cemetery, with the Reverend Raymond Thomas, Pastor of St. Mary and St.
Frances Cabrini Churches, officiating. Following the graveside service, a
gathering will be held at the Ely residence, 674 Sandusky Street, Conneaut.

CHRISTINE E. DAMON
CONNEAUT - Christine E. Damon, age 88, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Friday,
September 8, 2006, at the Villa at the Lake.
Born August 28, 1918, in Norwich, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late
Duff and Alma (Johnson) Bricker. Christine came to Conneaut when she was 1 year
old, and lived her entire life in north Conneaut. She then went on to graduate
from Conneaut High School in 1936.
She worked as a Bookkeeper for Kehoe’s Plumbing, and was also a Secretary at the
former Nickel Plate Railroad until the birth of her children.
Christine was very active in raising her children and her grandchildren, and
loved them all dearly.
She enjoyed traveling and going on bus trips with her husband, Ivan, whom she
was married to for over 63 years. Christine also enjoyed sewing, gardening,
plants, and loved to bake.
She was a lifelong member of Lakeview United Methodist Church, and a longtime
Sunday school teacher, as well as being active in the Ladies Aid serving as
treasurer for many years.
Christine is survived her husband, Ivan M. Damon, whom she married August 20,
1943; two sons, James and Cindy Damon, and John and Barb Damon, all of Conneaut;
a daughter, Joanne and Ron Williams of Conneaut; a sister, Alma Jean and John
Dixon of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; six grandchildren, Heather and Aaron Chamberlin,
Heather Damon, and Erich, Ian, and Alex Williams; two great-grandchildren, Josh
and Christopher Chamberlin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Duff Bricker.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2006, with
the Reverend David Miller of Lakeview United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2006, at

D. GROSS
LAKE WORTH, FL - - Ralph Donald Gross, age 82, of Conneaut,
Ohio, died Wednesday, September 6, 2006, in Lake Worth, Florida, where he had
lived with his daughter for the last five months.
Born July 5, 1924, in Conneaut, Ohio, he was a son of the late Frank A. and
Susie M. (Carlson) Gross.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, Mr. Gross was a 1942 graduate of Conneaut High
School, and attended Bowling Green University. He was active in sports in high
school, and later enjoyed bowling and playing fast-pitch baseball. A member of
the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he served with the U.S. Navy during World War II,
as a Signalman on an infantry landing craft in the South Pacific.
He was employed at the former Astatic Corporation for many years, retiring in
1986, and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed singing and dancing, and acted in the Green Door Follies and the
Rotary Club/ MacDowell Music Club musicals for several years. He also attended
and rooted for all his family’s sporting events.
Survivors include his daughter, Martha Mullen of Lake Worth, Florida; three
grandchildren, David Seppi Jr. of Lake Worth, Florida, Christopher Seppi serving
with the U.S. Army in Germany, and Kristina Seppi of Ashtabula; and a
great-granddaughter, Ticey Seppi of Lake Worth, Florida. Also surviving are his
sister, Mazie Spell of Conneaut; and a number of nieces and nephews, including
Norman and Faye Gross, George and Dee Gross, Robert and Marilyn Gross, Jeffrey
and Georgia Gross, Steven and Liz Gross, Claude and Nancy Loomis, and Larry and
Sally Persa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois (Kinnear) Gross, in
1967; two sisters, Mildred Gross and Evelyn Morgan; and six brothers, Wilbert,
Frank, Fred, Robert, Russell, and Richard Gross.
Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at the MARCY
FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut, with the
Reverend Chuck Graham, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial, with Military Honors, will be in Kelloggsville Cemetery, Monroe

SOPHIA A. NEILL
TWINSBURG - - Sophia A. Neill, age 91, former resident of
Cemetery Road, Kingsville Township, Ohio, and residing in Twinsburg, Ohio, the
past seven years, died Saturday morning, September 9, 2006, at the home of her
daughter in Twinsburg.
She was born May 5, 1915, in Sheffield Township, a daughter of the late Peter
and Mary (Benetka) Nicka, and lived in this area from 1944 to 1999, coming from
Cleveland. A 1933 graduate of Kingsville High School, she was married to William
P. Neill on April 6, 1940, in Cleveland.
Mrs. Neill retired from Nelson Electric in 1977.
She was a member of St. Andrew’s Church, a Red Cross volunteer, worked the Board
of Elections, enjoyed baking, and was a member of The Polish Girls.
Survivors include three children, Diane J. Wilson of Twinsburg, Mary Lou Kaufman
of Kirtland, and Gregory W. Neill of Columbus; four grandchildren, Cynthia J.
Simko, Robert W. Wilson, Cory A. Pearson, and Kristina M. Frate; and eight
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; three brothers,
Frank, Ernest, and Armand Nicka; and a sister, Theresa Stenbauer.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at the
Jefferson Home of the FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 49 West Jefferson

CONNEAUT - - Lawrence M. "Cody" Green, age 57, Lake
Road, Conneaut, Ohio, died Monday morning, September 11, 2006, in the Hospice
Unit at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born April 15, 1949, in Chardon, the son of Lester and Margaret (Wile)
Green, and has lived in Geauga and Ashtabula Counties most of his life. Mr.
Green was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving in Vietnam.
He was self-employed as a carpenter and was a member of the V.F.W.
Survivors include a sister, Barbara L. Scalise of Jefferson; and nieces and
nephews, Cher M. Kalinsky, Shane J. Scalise and Lacey E. Scalise, all of
Jefferson, and Brittaney L. Bryson of Trumbull Township.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Don "Mitch" Green.

ROCKVILLE, MD - - Ruby M. Meacham, age 93, former Ashtabula
resident, died Saturday, September 9, 2006, in Rockville, Maryland.
She was born March 9, 1913 in Fairmont, West Virginia, the daughter of Jacob
Franklin and Mary Laverne (Soles) Anderson. She had live in Ohio and Florida
before moving to Gaithersburg, Maryland, to be with her daughter.
Surviving her is her daughter, Judith Blank Harley of Gaithersburg, Maryland;
two stepsons, Richard Meacham of Ft. Myers, Florida and Dale Meacham of Madison,
Ohio; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vivian Hawn
of Conneaut, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ralph Blank in
1967; her second husband, Arthur Meacham in 1990; a daughter, Janice White; and
a grandson, Terry White.

KATHLEEN J. BROUGHTON
KINGSVILLE - Kathleen J. "Kitty" Broughton, age 77, of South
Ridge Road, Kingsville, Ohio, died unexpectedly Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at
Genesys Health Park, Grand Blanc, Michigan.
She was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1928, in Charleston, West Virginia,
a daughter of the late Gilbert and Gatha (Koontz) Broughton, and had been an
Ashtabula and Kingsville resident most of her life.
On April 19, 1958, she married her husband, William H. Broughton, and then moved
to Kent, where she worked various jobs as her husband earned his college degree.
Upon returning to Ashtabula in 1964, she worked five years for Reliance Electric
before opening the Continental Wig Salon in Saybrook Township. She owned and
operated the store for 36 years.
An avid card player, she and her husband had a standing pinochle game every
Friday night for the past 21 years. She also enjoyed bowling, the dice game
"Around the Corner", and working crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Broughton was a member of the Kingsville First Baptist Church.
Her survivors include her husband of 48 years, William H. Broughton; a
sister-in-law, Joyce Snyder and her husband Junior of Ashtabula; and her nieces
and nephews, Sally, Becky, Pam, and Jim (children of Jim and Vernetta Wheeler),
Marilyn, Judy, Arthur, and Terry (children of Don and Gatha Hill), and Steve
Snyder (son of Junior and Joyce Snyder).
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Vernetta "Bobbi" Wheeler Crawford and
Gatha "Blue" Hill; and her parents.
A Service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, September 16, 2006, at the DUCRO
FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula. The Reverend David
Hines, Pastor of Kingsville First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will
be in Edgewood Cemetery.

ASHTABULA - - John J. Anthony, age 92, of Conneaut, Ohio, died
Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at Park Haven in Ashtabula.
Mr. Anthony was born September 21, 1913, in Conneaut, a son of the late James
and Philipine (Pasquelle) Anthony. John served his country during World War II
as a Sergeant with the 751st Tank Battalion.
John worked as a Commercial Fisherman for many years and was a Switchman for the
Nickel Plate Railroad. He also was a Mixer at the former Exomet plant.
He was a member of St. Mary Church in Conneaut and served as an Usher years ago.
He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus, and enjoyed gardening,
fishing, reading, and talking with people.
He is survived by a daughter, Helen Anthony and son-in-law, Dave Harcourt of
Conneaut; a sister, Edith (Dolly) Caruso of Ashtabula; and several nieces and
nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeanette in 1991; a
daughter, Josephine; brothers, Donald (Dee Dee), James, Charles, Albert, and
Michael "Spike" Anthony; and a step-sister, Dina Anthony.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 15,

W. MONDY
KINGSVILLE - - Charles W. Mondy, age 76, of Conneaut, Ohio,
died Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home in
Kingsville.
Mr. Mondy was born December 31, 1929, in Conneaut, a son of the late Mike C.
Mondy and Harriet Stonerock Clark. He graduated from Conneaut High School, and
then went on to serve in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He served
on the U.S.S. Newport News as a Fireman.
He worked as a Machinist at the former Nickel Plate Railroad, and then worked at
the former SCM Chemical Plant in the maintenance department as a Welder and
Fabricator until his retirement in 1992.
Charles was a member of St. Mary Church, the V.F.W., and the American Legion
Cowle Post 151.
He enjoyed golfing and had the great fortune of scoring a "hole in one" at
Conneaut Shores Golf Course while playing golf with his son, Mike. He also
enjoyed tinkering in his garage, working on cars, bowling, and spending time
with his family.
Charles is survived by a daughter, Deborah and James Newcomb of Conneaut; a son,
Michael and Tammy Mondy of Conneaut; three grandchildren, Christopher and
Zachary Newcomb, and Charlie Mondy, all of Conneaut; a brother, Michael "Butch"
and Jeanette Mondy of Bedford, Pennsylvania; two half-brothers, Roy Clark and
Ira Clark, both of Everette, Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Jeanette Mondy, of 56
years, whom he married September 6, 1950. Jeanette recently passed away on July
14, 2006.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 16,
2006, at St. Mary Church, with Father Raymond Thomas officiating. Burial will

operated the store for 36 years.
An avid card player, she and her husband had a standing pinochle game every
Friday night for the past 21 years. She also enjoyed bowling, the dice game
"Around the Corner", and working crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Broughton was a member of the Kingsville First Baptist Church.
Her survivors include her husband of 48 years, William H. Broughton; a
sister-in-law, Joyce Snyder and her husband Junior of Ashtabula; and her nieces
and nephews, Sally, Becky, Pam, and Jim (children of Jim and Vernetta Wheeler),
Marilyn, Judy, Arthur, and Terry (children of Don and Gatha Hill), and Steve
Snyder (son of Junior and Joyce Snyder).
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Vernetta "Bobbi" Wheeler Crawford and
Gatha "Blue" Hill; and her parents.
A Service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, September 16, 2006, at the DUCRO
FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula. The Reverend David
Hines, Pastor of Kingsville First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will
be in Edgewood Cemetery.

FLORA R. SPEER
PIERPONT - - Flora Rogene (Broughton) Speer went to see her
Lord and Savior peacefully in her sleep at her daughter Rogene’s home on
Wednesday, September 13, 2006.
She was a daughter of the late George and Ethel (Schlafke) Broughton, and was
born on April 26, 1916, at her grandmother’s home in Ashtabula Township on Lake
Road. She attended Edgewood School, grades 1 through 8, and graduated from
Ashtabula High School in 1934.
On May 2, 1934, she married Cleo Ivan Speer. Together, they enjoyed traveling
and camping, culminating with their second honeymoon to Hawaii, completing their
endeavor to visit all 50 states. Later in life, she was also able to visit
England, traveling to Broughton Castle, named after her ancestors.
She was a member of Pierpont Presbyterian Church, working as the Custodian, one
of the founders of the youth program J.E.T.S., and Deacon and Sunday School
teacher.
Mrs. Speer was one of the charter members of the Pierpont Fire Bells for the
Pierpont Volunteer Fire Department. She was also a foster mother to Ecklund
Phillips Children, and was awarded the Mother-of-the-Year of Ashtabula County in
1957.
She was always willing to work or lend a helping hand. Some of her working
endeavors included J.C. Penney, Ken and Jean Babcock’s Cloverfarm Grocery Store,
Buckeye Local Schools as lunch aide, and Tax Preparer. During her retirement
years, she enjoyed volunteering at Pierpont Elementary School, assisting the
students with their reading, and keeping the books for her grandson, Dan Swift,
owner of Jamboree Grocery Store in Pierpont.
Mrs. Speer is survived by her children, Rogene (David) Swift, James (Rachel)
Speer, Carol (David) Fuller, Judy (Eugene) Housel, and Deby (Lonnie) Nelson; one
sister, Josephine Osborne of Conneaut; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren;
and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Cleo Speer; her
parents, George and Ethel Broughton; three grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; six sisters; and three brothers.
Funeral will be 1 p.m., Saturday, September 16, 2006, at Pierpont Presbyterian
Church, 71 State Route 7, Pierpont. The Reverend Ed Diehl, Pastor of the church,
will preside. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Pierpont.

W. MONDY
KINGSVILLE - - Charles W. Mondy, age 76, of Conneaut, Ohio,
died Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home in
Kingsville.
Mr. Mondy was born December 31, 1929, in Conneaut, a son of the late Mike C.
Mondy and Harriet Stonerock Clark. He graduated from Conneaut High School, and
then went on to serve in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He served
on the U.S.S. Newport News as a Fireman.
He worked as a Machinist at the former Nickel Plate Railroad, and then worked at
the former SCM Chemical Plant in the maintenance department as a Welder and
Fabricator until his retirement in 1992.
Charles was a member of St. Mary Church, the V.F.W., and the American Legion
Cowle Post 151.
He enjoyed golfing and had the great fortune of scoring a "hole in one" at
Conneaut Shores Golf Course while playing golf with his son, Mike. He also
enjoyed tinkering in his garage, working on cars, bowling, and spending time
with his family.
Charles is survived by a daughter, Deborah and James Newcomb of Conneaut; a son,
Michael and Tammy Mondy of Conneaut; three grandchildren, Christopher and
Zachary Newcomb, and Charlie Mondy, all of Conneaut; a brother, Michael "Butch"
and Jeanette Mondy of Bedford, Pennsylvania; two half-brothers, Roy Clark and
Ira Clark, both of Everette, Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Jeanette Mondy, of 56
years, whom he married September 6, 1950. Jeanette recently passed away on July
14, 2006.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 16,
2006, at St. Mary Church, with Father Raymond Thomas officiating. Burial will
follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut, with American Legion Cowle Post #151
Honor Squad conducting Full Military Honors.

KINGSVILLE - - Virginia Tinker, age 69, of Creek Road,
Kingsville, Ohio, died Saturday, September 16, 2006, at her home.
Born September 18, 1936, in Kennett, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late
John and Edna (Flatt) Nichols, and had resided in Kingsville most of her life.
She had also lived in West Springfield, Pennsylvania, for a short time.
Mrs. Tinker was employed at Kay’s Restaurant in Kingsville in the kitchen for
many years, and was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Albion,
Pennsylvania.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting baby blankets for her grandchildren,
and she especially enjoyed making Christmas ornaments and many other crafts. She
also loved spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Harold A., to whom she had been married for the
past 50 years; a daughter, Barbara Sue (James) Pease of Bozeman, Montana; three
sons, Robert (Renee) Tinker and David (Evelyn) Tinker, both of Englewood,
Florida, and Kenneth Tinker of Ashtabula; nine grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard Nichols of Beaverton, Oregon, and
John Nichols of Ashtabula.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Nichols in
1983.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at the

age 69, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at Hospice House in Cape Coral,
Florida.
She was born in Conneaut, Ohio, where she lived, married, and raised her family
before moving to Cape Coral in 1999.
A 1955 graduate of Conneaut High School, she worked at Brown Memorial Hospital
for several years, and also at Kmart in Ashtabula.
She was an avid collector of glassware, china and antique furniture, and enjoyed
several types of needlework for relaxation.
She is survived by her husband, Edgar Neal, whom she married in 1970; three
sons, Tim (Gayla) Neal and Mark Allen Neal, both of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Brian
(Albina) Neal of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren Shaun, Katelyn, Ryan, and
Jason Neal, all of Texas; and a brother, Homer Whitworth II of El Paso, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Lona (Tappe) Whitworth; a
daughter, Kelly, at birth; a son, David Allen Neal; and her sister, Susan Deck.

He was employed by Nickel Plate Railroad and retired from Norton Plastics in

He was a member of the West Springfield Home of the Jehovah Witnesses, and
enjoyed gardening and his dog "Keesh".
Surviving him are two daughters, Karen Dewey of Roy, Utah and Barbara Bartrum of
Ruskin, Florida; six grandchildren, Claude L. Kobernik III, Gail Loreth, Rhonda
Ludwig, Monica Folsom, Christie Adams and Greg Dewey; 14 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn; a son, Claude L.
Kobernik, Jr.; three brothers, Oscar, Glen and Richard Kobernik; two sisters,

She was employed by the Ashtabula School District in the cafeteria for 10 years.
A member of Mother of Sorrows Church, she enjoyed spending time with her 12
grandchildren and visiting family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Pasquale; two sons, Thomas (Diane) of Ashtabula,
and Patrick (Stephanie) of Galena, Ohio; daughters, Anita (Bob) Stowers of
Dublin, Ohio, Teresa (Michael) DelPrince of Russell, Pennsylvania, and Lisa

NORTH KINGSVILLE - - Eugene "Gene" C. Alger, passed away
Saturday, September 23, 2006, at the age of 75 after a long battle with cancer.
He was the son of the late Clifton and Helen Alger.
He moved from Cleveland in the ’50s to North Kingsville, where he operated and
owned Alger’s Restaurants. In the ’70s and ’80s, he worked for various national
chains (Manners Big Boy, Howard Johnson’s, Arby’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken). In
the late ’80s, he owned and operated Plaza Pizza Plus in Conneaut, until he
retired.
Gene was a U.S. Veteran and served in the Military Police in Japan during the
Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his six children, Margaret and Michael, both of North
Kingsville, Carolyn Parker and Michelle Titus, both of Conneaut, Mary (Dave)
Joslin of West Springfield, and Mark of Newcomerstown, Ohio; and three
grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Vidugiris), in 1994, and his
parents.

MONROE TOWNSHIP - - Ronald L. "Rabbi" Coy, age 54, of Monroe
Township, Ohio, died Sunday evening, September 24, 2006, at the Cleveland Clinic
following a two-year illness.
He was born June 2, 1952, in Chardon, Ohio, a son of the late Harold Coy and
Mabel (Loomis) Coy White.
A Monroe Township resident since 1974, Mr. Coy had also lived in the Amboy area,
and was employed as a Driver for Dunick Trucking of Ashtabula.
He was a member and former president of the Happy Riders Saddle Club, and a
member of the Ashtabula County Wagon Train Club, the Monroe Volunteer Fire
Department, and the Ashtabula County Horsemen’s Council. He also served as a Cub
Scout leader, and enjoyed camping, fishing, trail riding, his family, and
telling "stories."
Survivors include his wife, Ida (Ingram) Coy, whom he married December 12, 1970;
three daughters, Lynda (Jeff) Huston of Conneaut, Ronda Styzej of Ashtabula
Township, and Jessie (Jeremy) Tobias of Conneaut; two sons, Jason (Casey) Coy of
Monroe Township, and Jamie Coy of Conneaut; nine grandchildren, Amanda and
Jeffrey "Pauly" Huston, Shane, Dustin, and Cortney Styzej, and Ashley, Claudia,
Chastity, and Jacob Lee Coy; and a great-granddaughter, Riley Beatman. Also
surviving are his stepmother, Phyllis Coy of Monroe Township; two brothers, Ray
(Kelley) Coy and Steve (Janet) Coy, all of Monroe Township; half brothers and

CONNEAUT - - Eunice I. Groff, age 89, of Conneaut, Ohio, died
Saturday, September 23, 2006, at UHHS-Brown Memorial Hospital.
She was born December 28, 1916, in Monroe Township, Ohio, the daughter of the
late Albert and Katherina (Gee) Blood.
A 1934 graduate of Conneaut High School, Mrs. Groff was a lifelong Conneaut
resident, and had been employed in the offices at Phil Cress CPA, Presque Isle
Plastics, and the Conneaut Chamber of Commerce.
She was a member of First Congregational-United Church of Christ in Conneaut,
where she was active in the Women’s Fellowship, and also assisted her husband,
Dick, in preparing their sourdough pancake breakfasts. She was also a member of
Conneaut Mothers Club, the Stanley-Redmond Harper chapter of the D.A.R., Bridge
Club for more than 50 years, and the Rambling Squares square dance club.
A true homemaker, she excelled at cooking, sewing, and all types of needlework
and crafts. Eunice and her husband were avid travelers and members of the
Airstream International Travel Club. They camped in their Airstream all over the
U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Europe, and had been interviewed on Sunday morning
television’s "On the Road with Charles Kuralt."
Survivors include her daughter, Molly Grilly of Denmark Township, Ohio; her son,
Bill and wife Patty of New Orleans, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Tammy (Tim)
Fink of Monroe Township, Tracy (Chuck) White of Denmark Township, Ted (Celisa)
Grilly of Alabama, Tom Grilly of Jefferson, Ohio, Jennifer (Daniel) Bent of New
Orleans, and Rick (Ashley) Groff II of Atlanta, Georgia; and 19
great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Ernestine Bush of
Conneaut, and Mary Russell of Jefferson; and a number of cousins and more
distant relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Richard B. "Dick"
Groff, on September 16, 2000.

Lake in Conneaut, Ohio, where he had resided for the past three weeks.
Mr. Harley was born February 26, 1928, in Ashtabula, Ohio, and was a son of the
late Clayton and Cassie (Craig) Harley. He served with the U.S. Air Force during
World War II, and was a member of Ironworkers Local #17 for 55 years, retiring
in 1986.
He was a member of North Kingsville Presbyterian Church, was past president of
the Kingsville Lions Club, and also belonged to the Sons of Italy, the Dusty
Boots Riding Club, and the Hungarian Club.
Among his many interests, he enjoyed baseball, football, slow pitch, crossword
puzzles, roller skating, horseback riding, and collecting pictures of his
children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He played softball with the
"Ashtabula Old Timers" team in the 1960’s, and coached his two sons in Pony and
Little League. He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves, and the
Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include two sons, Harry (Ruth) Harley of North Kingsville, and Randy
(Pam) Harley of Greeneville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Wendy (Aaron)
Harley-Campbell of Concord, Ohio, Bryan Harley of Orlando, Florida, and Patrick
Harley of Auburn, Alabama; and two great-grandchildren, Jameson Campbell and
Avery Campbell, both of Concord, Ohio. Also surviving are three sisters, Ruth

Among his many interests, he enjoyed baseball, football, slow pitch, crossword
puzzles, roller skating, horseback riding, and collecting pictures of his
children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He played softball with the
"Ashtabula Old Timers" team in the 1960s, and coached his two sons in Pony and
Little League. He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves, and the
Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include two sons, Harry (Ruth) Harley of North Kingsville, and Randy
(Pam) Harley of Greenville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Wendy (Aaron)
Harley-Campbell of Concord, Ohio, Bryan Harley of Orlando, Florida, and Patrick
Harley of Auburn, Alabama; and two great-grandchildren, Jameson Campbell and
Avery Campbell, both of Concord, Ohio. Also surviving are three sisters, Ruth
Taylor of Ashtabula, Eloise (Willis) Bennett of Conneaut, and Dorothy Tidwell of
Sacramento, California; sister-in-law, Delores Mauro of Florida; and two
brothers, Clayton Harley and Howard (Janet) Harley, both of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arletta L. Harley, in 2003;
his brother, Lloyd Harley; and his sister, Maxine, at birth.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 30, 2006, at the
North Kingsville Presbyterian Church, 6546 Church Street, with Pastor Joyce
Shellhammer officiating.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Friday, September 29, 2006, at the
MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church
or to Hospice of the Western Reserve. Envelopes will be available at the funeral
home and at the church.
