MAURICE C. BEERS
CONNEAUT -- Maurice C. Beers, age 92, passed into his next
life January 29, 2006.
He was the loving husband and best friend of wife Mildred for 63 wonderful
years, and father of James and Richard Beers, both of Las Vegas, NV.
Preceded in death by his father James, his exceptional mother Sadie, older
sister Louise Rossiter, younger brother Robert (Jack) Beers and his sister
Audrey who died in her infancy, Maurice is also survived by his sister Verna
Oehlenschlager of Wooster, Ohio and too many nieces, nephews, relatives and
friends to list.
He was loved by many. Born in Conneaut, Ohio on March 4, 1913, Maurice was
stricken with polio at a very young age. He was treated at the Shriners Hospital
in Ohio. Later, in Florida, his family was assisted by the Red Cross in a move
back to Ohio when the family home and much of the surrounding area was wiped out
by a major hurricane. He also survived The Great Depression by working a variety
of jobs including Golf Caddy.
Always facing adversity as if it were just another challenge, Maurice went on to
lead a very full life as a superior worker, family man and an avid golfer and
bowler. Few knew of the crippling effects of his infantile polio. In 1945, in a
move to better life for his family, Mr. Beers moved to the Detroit, Michigan
area beginning work with the IATSE Motion Picture Projectionists Local 199. Mr.
Beers ran movies in many of the Detroit area's movie theaters until his
retirement at age 75 in the late 1980's.

He received a Lifetime Membership in the union and served on many union-related
committees up until his death. He also joined wife Mildred in a long and
rewarding association with the Order of Eastern Star. Already a Lifetime Member
of the Masons, Collingwood Lodge #582 in Cleveland, Ohio since 1957, Maurice
found his calling with the sister organization in Michigan, serving as Worthy
Patron nine times.
Throughout those years, Maurice was always first to volunteer time and donate
money to Eastern Star's many charities and events. Never forgetting what they
did for him as a youth, he also continued support for the Red Cross and Shriners.
Maurice Beers was, throughout his long life, dependable, reliable, a man of
principle and, as his wife puts it, "always a true gentleman". His sense of
humor, as well as his dedication and loyalty to family, friends and
organizations, and the man himself, will be greatly missed by all he touched.
Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2006, at the MARCY
FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, with Tim Kraus
