S. LARY JARVIS
CONNEAUT -- S. Lary Jarvis, age 68, of Conneaut, Ohio, died
Tuesday evening, August 1, 2006, at his home.
He was born March 18, 1938, in Holland, Michigan, a son of the late Sidney M.
and Francis (Sas) Jarvis.
Mr. Jarvis retired as a Deputy Sheriff in Lake County, Michigan, in 1986. As a
teen, Lary was a race car driver, and in later years, he had worked as a Diesel
Mechanic for Valley Truck Parts, DNL Construction, Wellcraft Boat Manufacturing,
a security officer in Florida, and owned and operated his own sharpening
business.
Lary enjoyed meeting with friends for breakfast, eating at wonderful
restaurants, and he absolutely loved ice cream. He loved his dog, "Casey," which
he would take with him to get coffee and donuts every morning. Lary enjoyed the
water and boating, taking rides down by the lake, camping, backpacking on
islands, going to Myrtle Beach, archery for the Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan,
and mowing and caring for his lawn. He was a member of the Cushman Club, and was
an avid NASCAR fan.
Lary also loved wood-working, making gifts for special occasions, such as
Christmas and weddings, and cradles for a new baby in the family. He had made
baby doll toys for his granddaughter, a steam shovel for his grandson to use in
the sand, and had also made two rideable toy airplanes, and toy trucks. Mr.
Jarvis was a self-starter and would conquer most any project that would cross
his mind. He was also a great photographer.
Survivors include his wife, Shari (Barr) Mortimer Jarvis, whom he married May
20, 1995; daughters, Tammie (Neil) Winkfield of Spokane, Washington, Patti
Jarvis of Pierpont, Ohio, and Judie (Robert) Stay of Cedar Springs, Michigan;
his son, Lary K. Jarvis of Cadillac, Michigan; two stepdaughters, Heather
(Brian) Kiser of King George, Virginia, and Melanie (Jeffrey) Donbar of Dayton,
Ohio; grandchildren, Christine, Paul, Lary, Adam, Jeffrey, Nathan, and Benjamin
Winkfield, Damien and Danielle Wittingen, Rob and Ryan Stay, Collin and Jayce
Jarvis, and Aaron and Melanie Kiser; and three great-grandchildren, Tony, Kaylee,
and Angelyzaah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Robert
Jarvis; and his grandson, Jeffrey David Kiser.
Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m., Friday,
August 4, 2006, at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty
Street, Conneaut, with Pastor Trudy Hazen of the Bethlechem Messianic
Congregation officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the
time of the service at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home

BERNICE E. WALKER SPICE
KINGSVILLE -- Bernice E. "Brenda" Walker Spice, age 92,
formerly of Creek Road, Kingsville, Ohio, died Monday, July 31, 2006, at the
Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
She was born April 20, 1914, in Wellsburg, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late
Frank and Jessie (Corbin) Seipler.
A hard worker her whole life, she worked as a waitress at various area
restaurants and as a clerk at Loblaws.
An avid reader, she raised Boston Terriers in her younger years, and loved her
dog, Floozy.
Her survivors include three children, Melanie Walker of Niles, Charles R. Walker
II of Washington, and William (Elizabeth) Walker of Conneaut; one stepdaughter,
Beverly DeGregorio of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her former husbands, Charles R. Walker and John
Spice; one son, Douglas Abbey; three brothers, Russell, Cecil, and Ted Seipler;
two sisters, Dorothy and her twin, Beatrice; and her parents.
A Service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday,
August 5, 2006, at the Greenlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum
Chapel, 3140 East Center Street, North Kingsville.
Minister Tim Kraus of the Conneaut Church of Christ will officiate.
Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday in the
Mausoleum Chapel.

CONNEAUT - - Peter Naglowski, 89, died Thursday, August 3, 2006.

JACQUELINE M. EBERSBERGER
CONNEAUT - - Jacqueline M. "Jackie" Ebersberger, age 69, of Conneaut, Ohio, died
Tuesday evening, August 1, 2006, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital following a
lengthy illness.
Mrs. Ebersberger was born on March 27, 1937, in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Robert D. and Virginia L. (Meadville)
Homan. She lived in the Pittsburgh area for many years and attended Robert
Morris University there.
A student of Christian Science, she was a layout artist for a number of
newspapers including South Hills Advertiser in Pennsylvania, and the Harbor
Journal of Ashtabula.
An avid crafts person, Mrs. Ebersberger was a talented artist, and a member of
the Buckeye Tole Artists Association.
She was a professional snow skiing instructor at Seven Springs
Resort for many years, participated in amateur competitive roller skating and
dance, and also enjoyed square dancing. She was also active in the Straw Hat
Theatre at the Ashtabula Arts Center.
Survivors include her husband, Frank H. Ebersberger, whom she married on January
18, 1957; a daughter, Lori L. (Sam) Bannister of Argyle, Wisconsin (formerly of
Erie, Pennsylvania); and two grandchildren, Samantha and Dexter Bannister, also
of Argyle.
Mrs. Ebersberger was preceded in death by her parents.
A Service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2006, at
the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut.
Calling hours will be from 2 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the

LESTER C. TEPPO
CONNEAUT - - Lester C. "Les" Teppo, age 56, died Friday, August 4, 2006,
at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pennsylvania, of complications due to cancer
treatment.
A Conneaut, Ohio, resident most of his life, Les was born on June 24, 1950, in
Conneaut, a son of the late Gerald U. Teppo and Alice (Newell) Teppo Christo. He
was a graduate of Conneaut High School with the Class of 1969.
Mr. Teppo attended the Family Fellowship-Foursquare Gospel Church of Conneaut;
was a member of the Conneaut Fish and Game Club and the Conneaut Eagles Club;
was a car enthusiast, enjoying his 1984 Corvette, 70’s music, movies, and
especially playing with his grandchildren.
Les was a longtime employee of the Conneaut General Electric Base Plant.
Survivors include his stepfather, Andrew Christo of Conneaut; two children, Lisa
(David) Ray and Jason E. Brammer both of Conneaut; two grandchildren, Jordyn
Nicole Ray and Connor Jadon Brammer; three sisters, Darlene (Jerry) Evans of
Gainesville, Georgia, and Bonnie (Ron) Summers and Judy (Jack) Lott, both of
Conneaut; and two brothers, Jack Teppo of Canton, Ohio, and Eric Teppo of
Kingsville, Ohio. Also surviving are more distant relatives, including several
nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Gerald Lee Teppo.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at the MARCY
FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut, with the
Reverend Jeff Maurer of Family Fellowship-Foursquare Gospel officiating.
Entombment will be in the mausoleum of Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North
Kingsville.

NOTE: Les was a friend of my husband
and I and we will miss him a lot.
We saw him a couple of weeks ago and although his voice was quite raspy, he hid
his suffering well. He smiled a lot and didn't complain about it to us at
all. He died with dignity.

DALE E. PAXSON
N. KINGSVILLE - - Dale E. Paxson, age 83, formerly of North
Kingsville, Ohio, died Thursday, August 3rd, 2006, at the Florida Hospital
Waterman in Tavares, Florida.
Born February 26, 1923, in East Palestine, Ohio, he was the son of Claude Amos
and Bessie (Welch) McKissick. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during
World War II.
He was employed with East Ohio Machinery in Alliance, Ohio, and Lincoln Machine
in Salem, Ohio, as an Engineer until his retirement.
He was a member of the Ashtabula First Church of the Nazarene and the Salem
First Friends Church. He had been a Perry Township Trustee, near Salem, Ohio,
for 16 years and had also been involved with the Salem Little League.
Surviving him are his wife, Elizabeth A. McKenzie McCormick Paxson of Mt. Dora,
Florida; a son, David (Debra) Paxson of North Kingsville, Ohio; a daughter, Dale
Ann (David) Martig of Salem, Ohio; six grandchildren, Julie Martig of Salem,
Crist (Yenere) Martig of Salem, Susan Martig of Chicago, Illinois, Laura Martig
of Loudonville, Ohio, Clint (Nancy) Paxson of North Kingsville, and Shane (Kara)
Paxson of Ada, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Kathy Phillips, Christian Martig,
and Anastasia Paxson of North Kingsville; a brother, Jess (Dorothy) Paxson of
Salem; two stepdaughters, Carol (Dennis) Blackman of Eustis, Florida, and Julie
Neuls of Leesburg, Florida; and four step-grandchildren, Taylor, Sara, Amanda
and Ben.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his adoptive father, Jesse D. Paxson;
and his first wife, Annagean Booth Paxson, on Dec. 30, 2000.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, August 10th, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the Ashtabula
Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 526 West Prospect Road,

KINGSVILLE - - Sarah E. Battles, age 90, died Wednesday, August
9, 2006, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Mark) Featherolf of North Kingsville;
four sons, Ivan (Connie) Battles of Avon Park, Florida, Roy (Pat) Battles of
Greenville, Pennsylvania, Donald (Pat) Battles of Goshen, Indiana, and Slick
(Carol) Battles of Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren; and several
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, in 1999.
At her request, there will be no calling hours observed.

FLORENCE M. STINE
CONNEAUT - - Florence M. Stine, age 81, of Conneaut, Ohio, died
Wednesday afternoon, August 9, 2006, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home,
Kingsville, Ohio.
She was born December 21, 1924, in Erie, Pennsylvania, and was a daughter of the
late Franciscus and Evelina (Albee) Provenzano.
A lifelong Conneaut resident, Mrs. Stine had attended St. Mary Church. She
enjoyed growing roses, doing crossword puzzles, going to yard sales, and
spending time with her best friend, Jolene Lane, and especially with her
grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy (Larry) Luce of Conneaut; her son, Merle
Betts Jr. of Ashtabula; her stepson, James Stine of San Diego, California; six
grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Merle Betts Sr.;
and her second husband, Wilson C. Stine.
Graveside Services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, August 14, 2006, in Greenlawn
Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, with the Reverend Raymond Thomas, of St.
Mary and St. Frances Cabrini Churches, officiating.
There will be no calling hours observed.

CONNEAUT - - Mary M. Gates, age 83, of Conneaut, Ohio, died
Wednesday afternoon, August 9, 2006, at UHHS-Brown Memorial Hospital.
She was born August 1, 1923, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and was a daughter of
the late James and Elizabeth (Murphy) Conway.
A Conneaut resident since 1946, Mrs. Gates worked in her husband’s medical
office for many years, and was a member of St. Mary Church.
She enjoyed reading, was a member of the Fortnightly Club, and also supported
and was a member of the Cleveland Museum of the Arts. Mrs. Gates was a member of
the Kahkwa Club in Erie, and was an excellent golfer, having made two holes in
one.
Surviving Mrs. Gates are her daughter and son-in-law, M. Michele and H. Steven
Bailen of Lakewood, Ohio; her son, Stephen E. Gates of Phoenix, Arizona; two
granddaughters, Elizabeth Mary and Erin Kathleen Gates; her sister, Dorothy
Ringswald of Baker, Louisiana; and her brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary
Carrol Conway of Louisville, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Stephen E. Gates, in
1994; her daughter, Linda A. Young, in 2005; and her brother, Thomas Conway.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2006, at the MARCY

EDWYNA VAN PUTTEN
CONNEAUT - - Edwyna Van Putten, age 60, of Mill Street,
Conneaut, Ohio, died Thursday, August 10, 2006, at UHHS - Brown Memorial
Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born October 15, 1945, in St. Michaels, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the
late Virginia (Richards) Smiach and the late Edward Banks. She had been an area
resident for the past 16 years. Before that, she was a resident of California.
On July 6, 1985, she married Jim, her best friend and love of her life, and gave
her children a great father.
She worked alongside of her husband for over 25 years owning
their own business. She also worked at Pape’s, and was an Assistant at the
Conneaut Area Chamber of Commerce Office.
Edwyna traveled all over the world with her husband, enjoying
life and just being together, and spending time with family and friends. She
cherished her children and grandchildren. Edwyna will be sadly missed by so
many. She lived and loved life to the fullest and had the heart to prove it.
She is survived by her husband and best friend of 21 years, Jim;
son, Butch (Heidi) Gochnour of Bradford, Ohio; daughter, Joy (Terry) Braley of
Ashtabula; adopted son, Daniel Gipson of California; five grandchildren,
Shealynn and Amanda Gochnour, and Nicole, Amber, and Todd Lutz; and four
sisters, Louise (Ralph) Vitucci of Roaming Shores, Patsy (Vern) Long of Alabama,
Effie (Bob) Garcia of Santa Barbara, California, and Darlene (Russell) Vior of
Santa Barbara, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a wonderful
stepfather, John Smiach; and father-in-law, Walter Van Putten.
Funeral Services will be held
at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2006, at the THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345
Main Street, Conneaut, with the Reverend Charles Graham, Pastor of the First
United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at

CARMELLA WARD
ERIE, Pa. - - Carmella Notte Ward, age 78, formerly of 1577
West 32nd Street and Westlake Woods, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2006, at
Saint Vincent Health Center.
Born on September 23, 1927, in Conneaut, Ohio, she was a
daughter of the late Emil and Mary (Ungaro) Notte Behncke.
Before her retirement in 1987, she was a Secretary for the United Steelworkers
of America Labor Union.
She enjoyed dancing, reading, working crossword puzzles, and
especially her family and being a grandmother.
Survivors include three children, Thomas R. Ward of McKean,
Denise Francis of Erie, and Anita Brasington and her husband, Craig, of Erie;
and five grandchildren, Holly Ward, Shaun and Chad Francis, and Daniel and
Brooke Brasington. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Ward in 1976;
a sister, Mana Moses; and an aunt, Lena Doran.

p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, August 13, 2006, at the BRUGGER HOME FOR FUNERALS,

LAURA R. OVERACKER
GREENVILLE, TN - - Laura Rose Overacker, age 77, of Rader Lane,
Greenville, Tennessee, and a native of Conneaut, Ohio, died Saturday
morning, August 12, 2006, at her home after an extended illness.
A retired Secretary, she was a dedicated member of Central Baptist Church.
Her family noted she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be
sadly missed by all her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Mark W. Overacker; two sons and daughters-in-law,
Mark L. and Debbie Overacker of Chuckey, Tennessee, and Thomas A. and Carol
Overacker of High Springs, Florida; two granddaughters, Tammy Overacker of
Memphis, and Teri Overacker of Greenville; three grandsons; James Overacker and
wife Kris of St. Louis, Missouri, and Jared and Blake Overaker of High Springs,
Florida; three great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Isaac, and Samantha Overacker;
sister, Ann Rose and brother-in-law Jim of New Orleans, Louisiana; brother,
Frank Yusko and sister-in-law Judy of Conneaut, Ohio; and several nieces,
nephews, aunts, and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna Yusko; and sister,
Bernadine Puffer.

CHAPEL, 401 West Main Street, Greenville, Tennessee, with Pastor Todd Abbey

WILLIAM F. GRICE
CONNEAUT - - William F. Grice, age 93, of Spring Street,
Conneaut, Ohio, died Thursday, August 10, 2006, at the Inn-Conneaut Health
Center.
Born July 9, 1913, in Watseka, Illinois, he was a son of the late Charles and
Fannie (Foreman) Grice, and had resided here most of his life.
Mr. Grice owned the Prudential Insurance Agency in Conneaut, and retired
as an Agent after 31 years of service.
A member of the First United Methodist Church, he graduated from Conneaut
High School in 1931, and served on the Reunion Committee for many years. He was
a life-member of the Conneaut Fish and Game Club and the L.E.C. B Boat
club, and was a charter member of the Amboy Rifle Club where he won many awards
for his target shooting.
Mr. Grice was and avid hunter and fisherman, and also enjoyed golf. He was very
proud that he got a hole-in-one at Windy Hill Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Merrick) Grice; a daughter, Kathryn (Jeffrey)
Horwood of Conneaut; a step-son, Barry (Carol) Merrick of Worthington,
Ohio; four grandchildren, Laura Horwood, Paula (Michael) Ghiz, Mary Lou Horwood,
and T. J. Horwood; one great-grandson, Gary Ghiz; a sister, Clara (George)
Smiley of Conneaut; a half-brother, Roy Grice; three step-grandchildren,
Davie (Amy) Merrick, Stephanie (Kirk) Gillespie, and Suzanne (the Reverend
Jonathan) Eilert; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary (Quinn)
Grice; a son, Gary Allen Grice in infancy; two brothers, Gene and Ernest Grice;
and four sisters, Yola Whaley, Cynthia Holden, Vera Haas, and Bessie Gulick.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m.,

TUCSON, AZ - - Former Conneaut, Ohio, resident,
June E. Paull, age 89, died Wednesday, August 9, 2006, at the
home of her daughter, Sara Dalrymple, in Tucson, Arizona.
She was born December 25, 1916 in Conneaut and was the daughter of Hugh
D. and Ruth A. (Murphy) Sawtelle.
Mrs. Paull graduated from Conneaut High School at the age of 15, and had
been employed as a Realtor for Wes Ticknor Realty and Bunny Thayer Realty.
While in Conneaut, she was a member of St. Mary Church, Sorosis II, the
Conneaut Artist’s Guild, the Irish Colleens, the Realtors Association,
and the former Conneaut Country Club. She enjoyed painting, golf, tennis,
traveling, reading, walking, playing bridge and ping pong. Mrs. Paull had lived
in Arizona for the past seven years.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary K. Hodgson of Tucson, Arizona, and Sara
(Eric) Dalrymple of Tucson, Arizona, with whom she had lived for the past year;
a son, Walter J. (Nancy) Paull of Akron, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Ruth Olson,
Laura Sanford, Tom Hodgson, Jill Dalrymple, and her daily caregivers, Alix
Dalrymple and fiancé, Christopher Carroll, all of Tucson, Arizona,
Charles Paull and Julia Paull, both of Akron, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren,
Amanda Sanford and Andrea Sanford, both of Tucson, Arizona.
Mrs. Paull was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Charles F.
Paull.
A Graveside Service will be held in Center Cemetery, Conneaut, at a
later date.

CONNEAUT - - Wilma J. Youngs-Andrews, age 89, of
Conneaut, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday afternoon, August
12, 2006, at Brown Memorial Hospital in Conneaut.
Wilma was born on November 2, 1916 in Conneaut, Township, Pennsylvania,
the daughter of the late Walter and Rita (Randall) Youngs.
Wilma retired after many years of assembly service at the Astatic Corporation in
Conneaut, Ohio.
She was a member of the Honda Gold Wing Chapter G (GWWA), enjoyed camping, and
traveling by motorcycle and R.V. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, was an avid
reader, and could not wait to see Bob Barker every day on the "Price is Right"
Show. She also enjoyed being with and doing things with her great-grandchildren.
Wilma is preceded in death by her long-life companion, Wilbert Andrews, who
passed away in 1999; four brothers, Robert, Wavil, Kenneth, and Walter, Jr.
Youngs; and two sisters, Marion and Thelma Youngs Adist.
Wilma is survived by a daughter, Debi Andrews Allen of Conneaut, Ohio;
and four sons, William Andrews of Minnesota, Vincent and John Andrews, both of
Conneaut, Ohio, and Mark Andrews of Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren; and
six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

GLENN GATRELL
CONNEAUT - L. Glenn Gatrell, age 80, of Reed Road,
Kingsville, Ohio, died Tuesday, August 15, 2006, at UHHS - Brown Memorial
Hospital.
He was born March 6, 1926 in Tyler County, West Virginia, the son of Lawrence
Gatrell and Lettie Tennant, and has been an area resident for over 50 years.
He attended the Pentecostal Church of God and loved the outdoors, hunting,
fishing, and raising and training hunting dogs. He enjoyed watching his favorite
chefs on the Food Network. Spending time with his family, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren was his favorite pastime. Glenn was affectionately known as
"Grandpa" to many.
A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the infantry during World War II. He
served as prison guard and escort for Japanese military commander Tojo and
witnessed the signing of the Peace Treaty with the Japanese while stationed in
the Pacific.
His survivors include one daughter, Susan Marie (Michael) Clancy of Conneaut;
two grandchildren, Joslin (Dr. William) Seeds and Ryan Clancy; three
great-grandchildren, Matthew, Brian, and Billy Seeds; and two brothers, Howard
Spencer of Kingsville and John Spencer of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Rich)
on April 9, 2006; one daughter, Glenna Marie; one sister, Fran Lasure; three
brothers, Ralph Thompson, Everett "Jake" Kester, and Clarence "Jake" Gatrell;
and his parents.
A Service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August
18, 2006, at the DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Avenue,
Ashtabula. The Reverend Kenneth Roberts, Pastor of the Pentecostal Church of

ASHTABULA - - Vera Mae (Terrill) Dunick Salsbury Coccitto, age
80, of Broad Street, Conneaut, Ohio, died early Saturday afternoon,
August 19, 2006, at the home of her daughter, Patricia Hanson.
Born in her parents home on Eureka Road in Ashtabula, October 11, 1925, she was
the daughter of the late John Mann and Mamie (Bennett) Terrill, and had been a
lifelong area resident.
A 1943 graduate of Edgewood High School, she attended nursing school for one
year. She retired as a Health Aid from the Ashtabula County Nursing Home after
10 years of service, and previously worked for Namco in Jefferson, Premix, and
for the Electromet (Union Carbide) as a "sample girl" during World War II.
During the early 1960’s, she tied grape vines until her fingers were raw, and
delivered eggs to Frank Nappi’s market and special people along her route.
After converting from Presbyterian to Catholic, she attended Mother of Sorrows
Church, St. Andrews Church where she served on the Altar and Rosary Society, and
most recently, St. Mary’s Church in Conneaut.
She was a member of the VFW #943 Ladies Auxiliary, and previously the Sheffield
Township Birthday Club, the Sheffield Grange, a volunteer for CONTACT, and
served as a 4-H Leader.
A happy person and a great listener, Vera enjoyed cooking, baking, flowers,
sewing her clothes, taking her kids roller skating in her younger years, and
listening to polka music, Patsy Cline, and her children’s Rock-n-Roll. She also
loved to travel, as she visited her relatives in Pittsburgh, her son John in
Delaware, Taiwan, Republic of the Philippines, and Japan, and to Florida,
California, and the Bahamas with her husband, "Cosmo." She also loved animals,
especially her pets, Tippy, Queenie, Rueben, Floosie, and Jake.
She is survived by her loving husband, Cosmo Michael Coccitto, whom she married
April 30, 1983; four children who cherished her, Patricia Ann (James) Hanson of
Ashtabula, Albert Anthony "Sonny" (Carol) Dunick of Plymouth Township, John
Thomas (Cheyenne) Dunick of Dover, Delaware, and Diana Louise (Michael) Cummins
of Painesville; five grandchildren who adored her, Beverly Jean Kehres of
Ashtabula, Michelle Lee (Greg) Mitcham of North Kingsville, Michael James Hanson
of Cincinnati, C. Mason A. Cummins of Toledo, and Kimberly Ann (Dan) Canale of
Hamburg, New York; seven great-grandchildren, Jeffrey David (Bea) Baker of Port
St. Lucie, Florida, Jennifer Mae Baker of Ashtabula, Morgan, Samantha, and Aiden

JOYCE L. KRENISKY
MONROE - - Joyce Lynn Hartung Krenisky, age 54, went
home to be with the Lord after concluding her brave and courageous 24-month
battle with cancer.
Joyce was born July 8, 1952, in Erie, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Erie, a
daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Aleska Horkey. She graduated from
Harborcreek High School in 1970, and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Joyce worked for 25 years at several area restaurants, including the Applewood
Restaurant, where she met her husband and companion of 17 years, David Krenisky,
the 76 Truck Stop, Crazy Daves, and the State Street Diner.
In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time at home, tending to her pets,
gardening, and camping. She also enjoyed quiet evenings with her Amish
neighbors, the Shetlers, and watching the buggies go to and from church on
Sunday. She also served meals at St. Mary and St. Frances Churches (everything
was always done in two minutes E right, Joe and George?), and was awarded Family
of the Year, Knights of Columbus Council 627, and also received an award for
serving dinners at the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include her husband, David Krenisky; step-daughter, Nichole Krenisky;
a brother, David Horkey and his wife, Marie, of California; a sister, Beatrice
Horkey; nieces, Tammy Mooney, and B.J. Waide and her husband, Eric; a
great-nephew, Emerson of Erie; and a nephew, Buddy Leonardi and his wife,
Amanda, of Erie; along with many loving friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Loretta Mooney and JoAnn
Leonardi.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice. The nurses and aides were
fantastic and greatly appreciated. Joyce would also like to tell all of her
friends, she will have a hot pot of coffee on when she sees them next.
A Celebration of her life will be held at 11
a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at St. Frances Cabrini Church with Father
John Summers officiating. There will be a luncheon to follow at Cabrini Hall.

MILDRED P. BEERS
WESTLAND, Mich. - - Mildred Pauline Beers, age 87, began her
new adventure and was reunited with husband Maury on Monday, August 14, 2006,
after resting comfortably at her 30-year residence in Westland, Michigan.
After putting up an extremely brave fight against Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for the
last eight years, and losing Maurice last January, Mrs. Beers is now reunited
with her beyond-life partner and the rest of her family which she missed so
much.
She was born January 24, 1919, in Madison, Ohio, to parents Lawrence and Waite
Eller of Geneva, Ohio. Mrs. Beers entered life as part of a very large, rural
farming family, and was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers,
Clarence, Merrell, and Lawrence Eller Jr.; six sisters, Vesta White, Lula Beaber,
Mabel Wolcott, Susie Maltby, Ethel Cosgrove, Lela Pethtel, and Verness (who died
in infancy); and, of course, her husband and now eternal partner, Maurice C.
Beers. Mr. Beers passed during January 2006.
Mildred Beers was a Life Member of Nankin Chapter #238 and the Grand Chapter of
Michigan in the Order of Eastern Star. She served in many capacities throughout
the years but, most notably, from 1972 to 1973 and 1991 to 1992 as Worthy Matron
of Strathmore and Plymouth Chapters, and was appointed to the Grand Committee of
Michigan in 1977 (Meinhart-Malacos). She also was the Grand Representative of
Indiana in Michigan in 1998.
Through OES and many other charitable organizations, such as the March of Dimes,
and countless others, Mrs. Beers gave both of her time and resources to help
others in need throughout her lifetime. Her closeness to her family in Geneva
was never questioned: always there to listen and help in any way she could - she
rarely missed a family reunion or special event and holidays, sometimes despite
snowy and treacherous trips between "her home" in Michigan and "her first home"
in Ohio. Married for 63 years to husband Maurice, she also attended all Beers
gatherings in Conneaut.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Beers of Las Vegas, Nevada, and James
Beers, currently of Westland, Michigan. As someone who always tried to supply
guidance, love, and tolerance to "her boys," she will be deeply missed, but
always appreciated.
She is also survived by her two remaining sisters, Maxine King and Clouris
Arden, both of Geneva, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Verna Oehlenschlager of Wooster,
Ohio, Betty Eller of Conneaut, and Viola Beers of Temecula, California.
She leaves hundreds of friends, nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was
loved and admired by many.
The world will miss Mildred Beers very much, but her generous nature and
lifetime accomplishments will always be remembered and set examples for others.
Her bravery during her battle with cancer and will to care for her husband
during the last few declining years showed remarkable strength, perseverance,
and will power.

NORTH KINGSVILLE - - Anthony F. Bartone, age 86, of
North Kingsville, Ohio, died early Tuesday morning, August 22, 2006, at the
Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
Anthony was born January 5, 1920 in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of Nicholas
and Carmella Taddeo Bartone.
Tony, a 1938 graduate of Conneaut High, went to work for the former
Nickel Plate Railroad. Enlisting in the United States Army in 1941, he served
his country proudly until being honorably discharged 1St Sergeant, after serving
three years in the China-Burma Indian Theater in November of 1945. He worked for
Rose Lumber Company and then worked for himself in the construction business. He
later went to work for the P & C Dock Company and retired from there at the
age of 62.
Tony enjoyed reading, gardening and yard work. He also liked to fish and golf.
He loved to listen to music and dance the jitterbug. Tony enjoyed traveling to
various casino’s with his wife on "Junkets".
Tony is survived by his wife, Marion Schultz Bartone, whom he married July 7,
1950; two daughters, Diane and Ted Mayberry of Vienna, West Virginia and Tona
and Scott Humphrey of Madison, Ohio; a brother, Fiory and Lucille Bartone of
Conneaut; a sister, Dorothy Notarione of Erie, Pennsylvania; three
grandchildren, Ted Mayberry, Karen Taylor and Brian Humphrey; two
great-grandchildren, David and Nathan Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Michael Bartone; and three
sisters, Julia Mondy, Alvera Bartone and Mary Temple.

ANDOVER - - Helen M. Macaro, age 71, of Andover, Ohio, died on
Monday, August 21, 2006, at UPMC Horizon Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born on June 26, 1935, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, to the late George
Legeza Sr. and Suzanne (Grusosky) Legeza. Mrs. Macaro was a 1953 graduate of
Conneaut High School. A longtime Conneaut resident, Mrs. Macaro moved
to Andover in 1997.
She was employed at Reliance Electric for 30 years, retiring in 1984.
Mrs. Macaro was a member of the Reliance retirees golf league and enjoyed
spending time with her retirement buddies.
She enjoyed playing golf, bowling, reading, and gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia A. (Timothy) Norris of Andover, and
Nancy L. Claypoole of Garfield Heights; a son, Ronald J. (Tracy) Macaro of
Phoenix, Arizona; a brother, George Legeza Jr. of Conneaut;
grandchildren, Scot, William (Bree), Donna, Timothy Jr., Bobby, Janelle,
Anthony, Amanda, and Halley; and great-grandchildren, Sean, Gabriella, Cameron,
and Lillian.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Mary Gribble.

AUSTINBURG - - Margaret M. (Wagner) Wilker, age 95, died
Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at the Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born October 11, 1910, in Lorain, a daughter of the late Otto and Myrtle
(Winstone) Wagner, and had been a Lorain resident most of her life after
spending her childhood years in Conneaut.
Margaret was active in the Ladies Auxiliary for the Black River Township
Firefighters, for whom her husband, Walter Wilker, was the fire chief for many
years.
She was also a member of the Amherst Fraternal Order of Eagle, #1442 Ladies
Auxiliary, the Southwest Chapter #3318 of the American Association of Retired
People, and St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Lorain, where she was active in the
Ladies Guild of the church.
A devoted aunt, she was always caring for and helping out her nieces and
nephews.
She enjoyed her pets, backyard wildlife and flowers, gardening, cleaning, and
sitting in the sunshine.
Her survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Ron and Patty Davis
of Roaming Shores, Ohio; and many great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Wilker in 1980; four
sisters, Ellen Wagner, Jewel Walker, Elizabeth "Betty" Sanders, and Mary Puchan;
two nephews, Ike and Arnold Walker, and two other nephews in infancy; and her
parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11
a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2006, at the Church of St. Peter, 3601 Oberlin
Avenue, Lorain. Father Chuck Henkle will preside. Burial will be in Ridge Hill
Memorial Park, Lorain.

WALTER
F. HARRINGTON
AUSTINBURG - - Walter F. Harrington, age 87, died
Friday, August 25, 2006, at the Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born January 27, 1919, in Nunda, New York, a son of the late Miles and
Ruth (Wirt) Harrington, and had been an area resident most of his life.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for International Mineral and Chemical
Corporation (IMC).
A 20-year Veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, he served his first term at the
Ashtabula Coast Guard Station.
He belonged to the First Baptist Church of Ashtabula, the Loyal Order of the
Moose, and the Ashtabula Elks Lodge #208.
Mr. Harrington enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing cards.
His survivors include his daughter, Alyce (Larry) Swanson of Austinburg; one
grandson, Donald Swanson; his granddaughter-in-law, Leah Swanson; three
great-grandchildren, Terri Swanson, Rachael (George) Puraty, and John Swanson;
one great-great-grandson, Whyatt Puraty; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline (Ruse) in 1987; two brothers,
Donald and Robert Harrington; one sister, Joy Cromwell; and his parents.
A Service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, August
28, 2006, at the Greenlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel,
3140 East Center Street, North Kingsville. The Reverend Doug Wright, Pastor of
the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory
Gardens where Full Military Honors will be held.
No calling hours will be observed.

GENEVA - - Vera A. Echerd, age 95, a resident of Geneva, Ohio,
passed away Friday, August 25, 2006, at Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center in Austinburg.
She was born September 29, 1910, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Mary (Novak)
and John Mismas.
A homemaker, she was a member of Assumption Catholic Church.
She was active with Geneva Area Senior Center, and formerly active with the
Geneva Grape Jamboree. She also helped with the family grape farm.
Survivors include two sons, Allan (Mary) Barski of Rome, Ohio, and Stanley
(Charlene) Barski of California; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren;
and two stepsons, Jim Echerd and Sam Echerd, both of Harpersfield Township,
Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary (Novak) and John Mismas; her
first husband, Frank Barski; her second husband, C. Glenn Echerd; three
brothers, Frank, John, and Alex; and three sisters, Mary Jerkich, Ann Janko, and
Alice Deanovic.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11
a.m., Monday, August 28, 2006, at Assumption Catholic Church, 594 West Main
Street, Geneva, with the Reverend Melvin Rusnak of Assumption Church
officiating. Final resting place will be at Mechanicsville
Cemetery in Austinburg Township.
Friends will be received from 9:30 to 10:30
a.m. Monday at the BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 175 South Broadway, Geneva.

M. RICHARDSON
CONNEAUT - - John M. "Jack" Richardson, age 89, of Conneaut,
Ohio, died Thursday morning, August 24, 2006, at The Villa At The Lake in
Conneaut.
Born September 8, 1916, in Conneaut, he was a son of the late Harry and
Vivian (Fulmer) Richardson.
Jack attended Broad Street and Fifteenth Street Elementary Schools, graduating
in 1936 from Conneaut High School, where he lettered in basketball and
football. He also played American Legion Baseball. He was a Boy Scout with Life
Scout Rank, and later became a Boy Scout Troop Leader. Following graduation, he
moved to the Pittsburgh (Wilkensburg) area in 1937, where he worked for the
Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad as a Security Guard on a railroad bridge.
He married Beatrice Mary Walker, daughter of John L. and Helen Walker of
Conneaut, on November 20, 1939, in Wilkensburg, Pennsylvania, where they
lived until returning in 1941 to Conneaut. He then worked at the General
Electric Conneaut Base Plant for 41 years, primarily as third shift Plant
Supervisor until retiring in 1982.
Because of poor eyesight, he was declined for the service during World War II,
but served in the Ohio Guard during the War. (He was proud to say that no enemy
got past the Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kentucky, or Canadian borders, to the best
of his knowledge.)
Jack had a deep love for his family and cherished his close, lifelong
relationship with his twin brother, Ed. He also enjoyed all sports, carpentry
and woodworking, and most especially his general puttering.
He was a lifelong member of the former St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in
Conneaut, serving on the Vestry and as Church Maintenance Engineer. He was
also a member of the Conneaut Junior Chamber of Commerce, and a life
member of Elk’s Lodge #256.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald A. (Sandy) Richardson of Concord, Ohio, and
Rex E. Richardson of Knoxville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Stephen (Bonnie)
of Lewis Center, Ohio, Lynn (Chuck) Palek of Painesville, Ohio, Leslie (Rob)
Isaacs of Concord, Ohio, and Andrew of Knoxville, Tennessee; six
great-grandchildren, Jessica, Kyle, and Jamie Richardson, and Sydney, Erin, and
Jenna Palek; his brother, Edward (Mae) of Conneaut; a niece, Bonnie
Schrecengost of Ashtabula; and brother-in-law, John D. (Nancy) Walker of
Clayton, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved wife of 65 years,
Beatrice, who died April 20, 2005, and is missed by all.
Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m., Monday,
August 28, 2006, at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty
Street, Conneaut, with the Reverend Terry Russell, Pastor of St. James Episcopal
Church of Painesville, officiating. Entombment will follow in
the mausoleum of Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Friends may call from at the Funeral Home on
Sunday evening, August 27, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Monday from 10 a.m.
until the time of service.

MILDRED P. BEERS
WESTLAND, Mich. - - Mildred Pauline Beers, age 87, began her
new adventure and was reunited with husband Maury on Monday, August 14, 2006,
after resting comfortably at her 30-year residence in Westland, Michigan.
After putting up an extremely brave fight against Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for the
last eight years, and losing Maurice last January, Mrs. Beers is now reunited
with her beyond-life partner and the rest of her family which she missed so
much.
She was born January 24, 1919, in Madison, Ohio, to parents Lawrence and Waite
Eller of Geneva, Ohio. Mrs. Beers entered life as part of a very large, rural
farming family, and was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers,
Clarence, Merrell, and Lawrence Eller Jr.; six sisters, Vesta White, Lula Beaber,
Mabel Wolcott, Susie Maltby, Ethel Cosgrove, Lela Pethtel, and Verness (who died
in infancy); and, of course, her husband and now eternal partner, Maurice C.
Beers. Mr. Beers passed during January 2006.
Mildred Beers was a Life Member of Nankin Chapter #238 and the Grand Chapter of
Michigan in the Order of Eastern Star. She served in many capacities throughout
the years but, most notably, from 1972 to 1973 and 1991 to 1992 as Worthy Matron
of Strathmore and Plymouth Chapters, and was appointed to the Grand Committee of
Michigan in 1977 (Meinhart-Malacos). She also was the Grand Representative of
Indiana in Michigan in 1998.
Through OES and many other charitable organizations, such as the March of Dimes,
and countless others, Mrs. Beers gave both of her time and resources to help
others in need throughout her lifetime. Her closeness to her family in Geneva
was never questioned: always there to listen and help in any way she could - she
rarely missed a family reunion or special event and holidays, sometimes despite
snowy and treacherous trips between "her home" in Michigan and "her first home"
in Ohio. Married for 63 years to husband Maurice, she also attended all Beers
gatherings in Conneaut.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Beers of Las Vegas, Nevada, and James
Beers, currently of Westland, Michigan. As someone who always tried to supply
guidance, love, and tolerance to "her boys," she will be deeply missed, but
always appreciated.
She is also survived by her two remaining sisters, Maxine King and Clouris
Arden, both of Geneva, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Verna Oehlenschlager of Wooster,
Ohio, Betty Eller of Conneaut, and Viola Beers of Temecula, California. She
leaves hundreds of friends, nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was loved
and admired by many.
The world will miss Mildred Beers very much, but her generous nature and
lifetime accomplishments will always be remembered and set examples for others.
Her bravery during her battle with cancer and will to care for her husband
during the last few declining years showed remarkable strength, perseverance,
and will power.

HOME, 7707 Middlebelt Road in Westland, Michigan, on Friday, August 25, 2006,

Maury and his parents at Glenwood Cemetery in Conneaut, Ohio,
following a service at MARCY FUNERAL HOME in Conneaut on Monday, August 28,
2006.

Monday evening and run until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at 6:30 p.m.,
followed by an OES service at 7:30 p.m.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August
29, at Noon.
The Reverend Tim Kraus of Conneaut is
officiating at both the funeral home and the cemetery.

RAYMOND N. ZAWOYSKI
STRONGSVILLE - - Raymond N. Zawoyski, age 56, formerly of
Conneaut, Ohio, died Thursday, August 24, 2006, in Strongsville, Ohio.
Ray was born February 4, 1950, in Monessen, Pennsylvania, the son of the late
Nicholas and Pauline (Cipley) Zawoyski.
He was a 1968 graduate of Monessen High School, and went on to receive his
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts at California State University,
Pennsylvania, and earned a Master’s Degree in Psychology from the University of
Edinboro.
Raymond came to the Conneaut area in 1972 as an Industrial Arts
teacher, and worked for the Conneaut School system until 2000.
Ray loved to cook for his family and enjoyed woodworking. He loved the
Pittsburgh Steelers, and he also enjoyed watching mystery movies, especially
Matlock and Colombo.
Ray is survived by his former wife, Cheryl LaPresti Zawoyski of Conneaut;
two sons, Nicholas and Stacy of Strongsville, Ohio, and Nathan Zawoyski of
Conneaut; and his favorite granddaughter, Kayla Zawoyski.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
At the request of the family there will be no
calling hours.
A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at
the convenience of the family.

C. OWENS
CONNEAUT - - Edward C. Owens, age 80, of Russell Street,
Conneaut, Ohio, died Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at the Ashtabula County
Medical Center.
He was born April 21, 1926 in New York City, to the late John and
Madeline Owens and has resided in the Conneaut area since 1957.
Edward was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He retired from the Astatic Corporation, prior
to that he worked at Premix and the former Conneaut Can Company.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed watching football and baseball, reading, and
spending time with his family and friends.
Edward is survived by his two sons, Keith and Michael Owens, both of Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Muriel.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. on
Thursday, August 31, 2006, at the THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main Street,
Conneaut, with Pastor

WEST SPRINGFIELD, PA - - Robert (Rocky) J. Ulrich, Jr., age 36,
of West Springfield, Pennsylvania, was found dead off McKee Road in Conneaut
Township, Pennsylvania, Friday, August 25, 2006.
Rocky was born April 1, 1970 in Erie, Pennsylvania, the son of Robert J.
Ulrich, Sr. and Barbara Mitchell. He attended Girard High School and later went
on to work as a State Inspector at Jensen’s Auto Service in Fairview,
Pennsylvania.
Rocky loved working on cars and was also a former little league baseball coach.
He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and children.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Evelyn Ulrich, and
paternal grandparents, Harold and Martha Mitchell.
He is survived by his parents, Robert J. Ulrich, Sr. of Newport Richie, Florida
and Barbara Mitchell of Palm Bay, Florida; his wife, Brandy Gurto Ulrich of West
Springfield, Pennsylvania, whom he married September 5, 1992 at St. Mary Church
in Conneaut; a daughter, Kristen Ulrich, and two sons, Rocky, III and
Corey Ulrich, all of West Springfield; a brother, Larry Mitchell of Palm Bay,
Florida; two sisters, Lynda Ulrich of Melbourne, Florida and Leslie Mitchell of
Conneautville, Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday, September
1, 2006, from 12 p.m., Noon, until 1 p.m. at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME,
