 MARK A.  BERTOLOTTI 
 
JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Mark A.  Bertolotti, age 50, of Jefferson 
City, Missouri, died Sunday, May 22, 2005.   
     He was born September 4, 1954, in Conneaut, 
Ohio, a son of E.  A.  'Chili' and Eleanor Bertolotti. 
     He was a 1973 graduate of Conneaut High School 
and served in the US Navy.  He and his family resided in Jefferson City, 
Missouri, and he worked in the construction trade.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing, 
and spending time with his family.  They vacationed in Conneaut every summer 
where his whole family enjoyed staying and playing on the shores of Lake Erie. 
     He is survived by his wife, Cathy Bertolotti; two 
daughters, Ashley J.  Bertolotti, and Carrie E.  Bertolotti, all of Jefferson 
City, Missouri; his mother Eleanor Nierzejewski of Ashtabula, Ohio; his brother, 
Chris Bertolotti of Conneaut; four sisters, Cyndi Bertolotti Clark of Columbus, 
Ohio, Darla Korkill of Dallas, Texas, Kim Haney of Corpus Christi, Texas, and 
Lori Carpenter of Jefferson, Ohio.   
     He was preceded in death by his father, E.  A.  'Chili' 
Bertolotti of Conneaut. 
     Graveside Service will be held 2:30 p.m., 
Thursday, June 2, 2005, in East Conneaut Cemetery, 
with the Reverend Chuck Graham, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, 
officiating.

RHONDA L. MANNIKO 
CONNEAUT - Rhonda L.  Manniko, age 44, of Clinton Avenue, 
Conneaut, died Monday, May 30, 2005, in the Hospice Unit of the Ashtabula County 
Medical Center.   
 
She was born July 6, 1960 in Ashtabula, to William and Shirley (Sutton) 
Hodgkinson. 
 
Rhonda was born in Ashtabula but has resided in Conneaut for the past 24 
years.  She enjoyed baking, crafts, and spending time with her nieces and 
nephews, and grandchildren. 
 
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Kevin; daughters, Heather Fox of 
Newton Falls, Ohio, and Adrianna of the home; her mother, Shirley Hodgkinson of 
Ashtabula; granddaughter, Samantha Dolin; sister, Valerie Kennedy of Ashtabula; 
and brother William T.  Hodgkinson Jr.  of Ashtabula.   
 
She is preceded in death by her father, William T.  Hodgkinson Sr. 
 
A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, June 3, 2005, at the Good 
Shepherd Lutheran Church, 876 Grove Street, Conneaut, with Reverend Elizabeth 
Eaton, of Messiah Lutheran Church of Ashtabula, officiating, in the absence of 
Reverend Frank Gore, Pastor of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Conneaut.

EITHEL TENNANT 
MONROE TWP - Eithel Tennant, age 81, of Monroe Township, died 
Saturday, May 28, 2005, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital. 
 
She was born November 28, 1923, in Lima, West Virginia, and was a daughter of 
the late William E.  and Viola (Bunting) Spencer. 
 
An area resident for more than 50 years, Mrs.  Tennant was a homemaker and 
enjoyed baking, flower gardening, quilting, crocheting, and spending time with 
her family. 
 
Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Stanley) Read of Conneaut, Ohio; four 
sons, William (Janice), Larry P.  (DeAnna), Ronald R., and Robert L.  (Karin) 
Tennant, all of Conneaut, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great 
grandchildren.  Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Ruth Tennant, and Freeda 
Spencer; and several nieces and nephews. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lonnie A.  Tennant in 
1966; a granddaughter, Heather Lynn Tennant in infancy; three sisters; and five 
brothers. 
 
Private Funeral Service will be held at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION 
CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut, Ohio, with the Reverend Jerry Webb, Pastor 
of Kelloggsville Church of The Nazarene, officiating.  Burial will be in 
Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, Ohio.

BETTY J. THOMPSON 
CONNEAUT - Betty J.  Thompson, age 81, of Main Street, 
Conneaut, died Monday, May 30, 2005, at the Villa at the Lake. 
 
Born in Wesleyville, Pennsylvania, April 10, 1924, she was the daughter of the 
late William and Lina (Hackett) Thomas.  Her family moved to Conneaut when Betty 
was young, and she was educated in the Conneaut schools until her high school 
years.  She was a graduate of the Andrew School for Girls in Willoughby. 
 
On March 2, 1945, Betty married C.  Wm.  Thompson.  While she took great pride 
in taking care of her home and family, she also took an active role in the 
family business, the Thompson Funeral Home.  She served as the bookkeeper for 
over 50 years, as well as being a part of the day-to-day operations. 
 
Mrs.  Thompson was an active member of The United Church of Christ, where she 
enjoyed a lengthy tenure as the director of the Junior and Youth Choirs.  During 
the years she was the director, the choirs grew in size, from 40 to 75 
members.  She also was a member of the Music Committee of the Church. 
 
She was an original member of the MacDowell Ensemble, which practiced at her 
home every Monday evening for over 15 years; her alumnae chapter of the Andrews 
School for Girls; the Progressive MothersΉ Club; MacDowell Music Club; Rose 
Chapter Order of Eastern Star No.  22; and the Pythian Sisters. 
 
Many of her friends and family members were recipients of her meticulous and 
intricate cross-stitch designs.  An accomplished seamstress, Mrs.  Thompson 
shared her talent of sewing clothes, not only for her daughters and niece, but 
for other family members and friends as well.  Her girls were the center of her 
world, and she spent countless hours caring for them and enjoying all their 
activities.  In her later years, the grandchildren took over that role. 
 
Surviving her are her three daughters, Linda (Vincent) Neton of Barrington, 
Illinois, Janet (Thomas) Smith of Conneaut, and Claudia (Michael) Conway of 
Orchard Park, New York; her ³Forth Daughter², niece, Diane (Gerald) Javorek of 
Westlake, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Jason (Maryann) Neton of Crown Point, 
Indiana, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Neton of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Jessica Neton 
of Arlington, Virginia, Amy (John) Lower of Conneaut, Sara (Rick) Gleason of San 
Antonio, Texas, Ryan (Mindy) Smith of New York City, Erin Conway of Lakewood, 
Ohio, Brenden Conway of Athens, Ohio, and Sean Conway of Orchard Park, New York; 
and four great grandchildren, Hannah, J.J., and Nathan Lower, and Henry Vincent 
Neton. 
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, C.  Wm.  Thompson in 1991; her father, 
William Thomas; her mother and step-father, Lina Hackett Thomas Joiner and 
Claude Joiner; and her sister, Virginia Hinkley. 
 
Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2005, at the 
THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main Street, Conneaut, with the Reverend Walter 
Coy, Pastor of the United Church of Christ, and Joyce C.  Shellhammer, Lay 
Minister of the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church, officiating.  Interment 
will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut.

THOMAS E. DEETER 
PIERPONT - Thomas E.  Deeter, age 63, of Pierpont, OH, died 
Tuesday afternoon, May 31, 2005, of a probable coronary shortly after arrival at 
Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA. 
 
He was born April 9, 1942 in Dayton, OH, and was a son of Charles Edgar and 
Lottie Mae (Weaver) Deeter.  He was a Pierpont resident since 1953 and graduated 
from Pierpont High School where he loved playing basketball. 
 
He was employed formerly at Ashtabula Bow Socket and later at Trans Plastics in 
Conneaut. 
 
He was a true Elvis fan, and he enjoyed fishing, working with his hands, 
especially carpentry, and spending time with his family.  He spent a lot of time 
doing his family genealogy. 
 
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Candela Deeter, whom he married July 3, 
1999; his daughter, Veronica G.  (Russell) Porter of Ashtabula, OH; three sons, 
Charles E.  ³Charlie² Deeter II at home, Thomas E.  (Teresa) Deeter of San 
Antonio, TX and Lee E.  (Jan) Deeter of Horseheads, NY; a step-son, Scott Lefik, 
Jr.  of Ashtabula, OH; seven grandchildren, Taunya, Tasha, and Tiffany Deeter, 
Bobby Hanft, Tyler Porter, Josh and Justin Lakes; and two great-grandchildren. 
 
He was preceded in death by his father on August 6, 1998; his mother on August 
16, 1998; and his sister, Diana Mae Paugh on September 26, 1989. 
 
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2005, at the MARCY

 JAMES D. DONNELLY 
 
JEFFERSON - James D.  Donnelly, age 80, of Beverly Drive, Jefferson, Ohio, died 
Wednesday afternoon, June 1, 2005, at his residence. 
 
He was born August 5, 1924, in Erie, Pennsylvania, the son of the late George 
W.  and Gertrude I.  (Carpenter) Donnelly, and has lived in Jefferson the past 
15 years, previously living in Conneaut, Ohio, for 37 years.   
 
He was married to the former Joan D.  Davis on June 26, 1948, at St.  Patrick's 
Church in Erie. 
 
Mr.  Donnelly was a graduate of Cathedral Prep and Gannon College.  He was a 
World War II veteran, serving with the Army Air Corps.  He spent 35 years in 
technical sales, retiring in 1986 from the former Exomet Inc.  in Conneaut, 
Ohio, as director of foundry sales. 
 
He was a member of St.  Joseph Calasanctius Church; the American Legion; a life 
member of the Erie Maennerchor; and a lay lector for over 30 years in the 
Catholic Church.  He was also an avid golfer and an amateur acrylic artist. 
 
He is survived by his wife, Joan; four children, Anne (James) Richards, Mary 
(Anthony) Zappitelli, both of Conneaut, Ohio, James (Teri) Donnelly of 
Mechanicsville, Virginia, and Thomas (Robin) Donnelly of Albany, Ohio; eight 
grandchildren, Joseph and Michael Zappitelli, Kelley and Jaime Richards, a 
Patrick and Bryan Tredway, and Joseph and Ryan Donnelly; six 
great-grandchildren, Angeline, Alexis, Joseph, and Jacob Zappitelli, and 
Alexander and Nathan Ackerman; a brother, Richard Donnelly of New Port Richey, 
Florida; and several nieces and nephews. 
 
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated, 1 p.m., Saturday, June 4, 2005, at 
St.  Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill Street, Conneaut, Ohio, with the Reverend 
Father Stephen Wassie, of St.  Joseph Calasanctius Church, officiating.  Burial 
will be in St.  Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.  The Geneva Post #6846 of the VFW 
will present Military Honors at the Graveside.

HOMER L. HODGES 
 
ASHTABULA - Homer L.  Hodges, age 73, a resident of Ashtabula, died late Tuesday 
in the Cleveland Clinic. 
 
Born September 18, 1931, in Hurricane, West Virginia, he was the son of the late 
Coleman and Edna (Irvin) Hodges. 
 
He retired from Elkem Metals with 32 years service.  Mr.  Hodges enjoyed 
gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. 
 
Survivors include his wife, the former Clara Carlo; a daughter, Janet (Kerry) 
Gerdes of Conneaut; and grandsons, Scott and Alexander Gerdes. 
 
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Raymond and Clifford; 
and a sister, Virginia Williams. 
 
At Mr.  Hodges request, there will be no Calling Hours.  Funeral Services will 
be held at the convenience of the family.

 RICHARD B. WILLIAMS 
LOUISVILLE, KY - Richard B.  Williams, age 72, of Louisville, passed away 
Sunday, May 29th, 2005, at the V.  A.  Medical Center in Louisville. 
 
He was a native of Cleveland, OH, a retired self-employed barber, an Army 
Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a member of the American Legion. 
 
Survivors include his children, Kathi Swann, Jeff and Rick Williams, and 
 
Pamela Williams-Harris; a brother, Robert Williams; nine grandchildren; and five 
great-grandchildren. 
 
Cremation was chosen.  There will be a Graveside Service at a later date at the 
Greenlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Kingsville, OH. 
MARJORIE J. WOOD 
 
CONNEAUT - Majorie Jean Wood, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 
2, 2005.   
 
Marge was born in Geneva, Ohio on July 26, 1929, the daughter of the late 
Stanley and Mira (Kimes) Klinger.   
 
She graduated from Geneva High School in 1947 and married Richard L.  Wood on 
November 20, 1953.  Marge and Dick made their home in Geneva and Ashtabula, 
where they raised five sons, Richard (Skip), Lee, Scott, James and 
Michael.  Marge was the proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren.  Mostly recently 
Marge resided at The Villa at the Lake in Conneaut.   
 
In her early years, Marge enjoyed summertime camping with Dick and the boys and 
looked forward to annual visits with out-of-town brothers and sisters.  Family 
gatherings were always a special time for her.  She was adept in crochet and 
other crafts and provided her family and friends with many samples of her work 
over the years.   
 
Marge was a devout Christian whose commitment to God was borne out in the 
example she set for her family and in her service to her church and others in 
need.  She was a member of Berean Bible Church until her illness prevented her 
from attending church regularly.   
 
Over the past few years Marge struggled with Alzheimer's Disease, but never gave 
up her hope of living independently again.  Although her memory may have faded, 
her spirit never dimmed.  She continued to find joy in family, blue skies and 
drives past familiar places.  Her faith in God and reliance on prayer quietly 
sustained her.   
 
Survivors include five sons, Skip (Leigh) of Rosario, Argentina, Lee (Thea) of 
Albuquerque, New Mexico, Scott (Jackie) Owossa, Michigan, James Wood of 
Ashtabula, Michael (Amy); and fourteen grandchildren.   
 
Marge was preceded in death by her husband Dick, in 1987; her parents; brothers 
Wes, Bill and Leonard; sisters, Pearl, Lenore, Georgia and Joanne.  Marge will 
be greatly missed by her five boys and their families, who are comforted by the 
knowledge that she has been reunited with her parents, brothers, sisters, and 
the love of her life in their heavenly home.   
 
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 5, 2005 from 5-7 p.m., at DUCRO 
FUNERAL HOME, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula.   
 
A Service will held 11 a.m., Monday, June 6, 2005, at the funeral home, with 
Marge's eldest son, Pastor Richard Wood, officiating.  Burial will follow at 
Saybrook Cemetery.   
 
The family suggest Contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu 
of flowers. 
ELIZABETH K. BAENA 
N.  KINGSVILLE - Elizabeth K.  Baena, age 31, of East Center Street, North 
Kingsville, died unexpectedly at her home.   
 
She was born August 2, 1973 in Ashtabula, the daughter of Randy and Kathy 
(Whitney) Frambach, and has been a lifetime resident. 
 
She was a graduate of Conneaut High School and the Ashtabula County Vo-Ed 
School, where she was a member of Who's Who. 
 
She enjoyed going to the Conneaut Township Park and watching the boats.  She 
also enjoyed Rock and Roll, especially Van Halen, who she had a chance to meet. 
 
Surviving her are her parents of Conneaut; a brother, Eric Frambach of 
Pittsburgh; and many aunts; uncles; and cousins. 
 
A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, June 6, 2005, at the ROSS-BILLMAN

age 88, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Wednesday evening, June 8, 2005, at UHHS Brown 
Memorial Hospital. 
 
She was born May 13, 1917, in Burgesstown, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of 
the late William and Ethel (Chapman) Phillips. 
 
Mrs.  Chadwick moved to Conneaut from Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, in 1967.  She 
especially enjoyed her family, crocheting, particularly afghans, and bingo. 
 
Survivors include two daughters, Wilma (Donald) Gasmire of Houston, 
Pennsylvania, and Bonnie (John) Weppler of Conneaut, Ohio; her son, William 
R.  Chadwick Jr.  of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren; 14 
great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William R.  Chadwick in 
1985; her daughter, Judith M.  Smith; her son, James R.  Chadwick; her brother,

She was born August 1, 1927 in Green Township, West Virginia to the late 
Benjamin and Nellie (Lane) Wimer. 
 
Mrs.  Curtis lived in Conneaut most of her life.  She worked as an assembler at 
Crawford Container, and in her spare time, she enjoyed writing songs and going 
to church.  She was a member of Everybody's Tabernacle Church in West 
Springfield, Pennsylvania. 
 
She is survived by her daughters, Sharren Peterson and Jean Curtis of Ashtabula, 
Lois Martin of Newton Falls, Ohio, Doris Ann Kramer of Minnesota, Rose Dudas of 
East Springfield, Pennsylvania, and Lottie Myers of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; 
sons, Delbert Jr., Rick, Norm, Roger, and Reginald Curtis, all of Conneaut, 
Robert Smallwood of Arizona, and Frank Curtis of West Palm Beach, Florida; 33 
grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose, Margie, Cindy, and Pearl,

 DOROTHY M. NELSON 
 PIERPONT 
- Former Pierpont, Ohio resident, Dorothy Marie Nelson, age 85, 
went to be with the lord, Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Medco Center of Franklin, 
Kentucky, where she had been a resident for the past five years, battling with a 
lengthy illness of Alzheimer's Disease. 
 
She was born March 15, 1920, in Steamburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the 
late William and Marian Hudson. 
 
Mrs.  Nelson was a lifelong member of the Pierpont Presbyterian Church, serving 
as Deacon and a member of the Martha Circle.  She also was a member of the 
Gossiping Girls and the Grange.  She loved gardening, cooking, baking pies, and 
especially spending time with her family. 
 
Survivors include three children, Joyce (Bob) Bowman of Pittsburgh, 
Pennsylvania, Diana Nelson-Rodgers of Andover, Ohio, and Alan (Rita) Nelson of 
Bethpage, Tennessee; a brother, Donald Hudson of Ashtabula, Ohio; seven 
grandchildren, Kim (Clint) Cork, Kelly McLaughlin, Mike (Chris) Wilcher, Kurt 
(Barb) Bowman, Wade Bowman, Chet (Audra) Nelson, and Josh Nelson; twelve 
great-grandchildren, Amber Jake, Matthew, Brianna, Wyatt, Dakota, Zachary, Ty, 
Kristen, Gabrielle, Scotty, and Natalie; and one great-great-grandchild, Taylor. 
 
Beside her parents, Mrs.  Nelson was preceded in death by her husband of 62 
years, Donald W.  Nelson, whom she married December 10, 1938, on February 13, 
2000; a son, Ronald W.  Nelson on November 26, 2004; two brothers, Howard and 
Raymond Hudson; a granddaughter, Sherri M.  Wilcher on January 22, 1980; a 
son-in-law, James Rodgers on April 30, 1998; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Hudson.

Friday, June 10, 2005 at her home.  She was born in Youngstown, August 12,1925, 
the daughter of the late Ralph and Lucy (Haynes) Linebaugh.  She had resided 
most of her life in Conneaut. 
 
She was a member of St.  Mary's Church, the American Legion auxiliary, the Loyal 
Order of the Moose, and Fraternal Order of the Eagles.  In her leisure time she 
enjoyed being with her family, camping, gardening, traveling, and shopping. 
 
She is survived by her daughter; Linda (Harry) Kingdom of Farmington, MI; three 
sons, Patrick (Debbie) Kemohan of Erie, PA, Edward (Paula) Palagyi, of Conneaut, 
and Jean (Kathie) Kernohan of Parma, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 21 
great-grandchildren; and three sisters.  Sue and Laura Linebaugh of Florida, and 
Janet Hinkson also of Florida; four brothers.  Rev.  Dale Linebaugh of 
Springcreek, PA, Rev Gary Linebaugh of Crossville, TN, Rev.  Glenn Linebaugh of 
Crossville, TN and Rev.  Skip Linebaugh of Youngstown, OH. 
 
Beside her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Frank Palagyi in 
1993. 
 
Following cremation, her cremated remains will be buried in Lake Park 
Cemetery in Youngstown, where private graveside services will be held at the 
convenience of the family. THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME is handling

CONNEAUT - Barbara J.  Barris, 72, of Conneaut, OH, died 
unexpectedly at her home Friday morning, June 10.  She was born December 9, 
1932, in Cleveland, OH, and was a daughter of Eugene J.  and Martha F.  (Sippola) 
Palo. 
 
She graduated from high school in Albion, PA, and following her marriage moved 
to Conneaut and assisted her husband in the operation of Quality Cleaners 
in Conneaut.  She was a member of First Assembly of God where her 
involvement included Women's Ministries, Sunday school teacher, and choir.  She 
was also a member of Aglow, Women of Finnish Heritage, and the Conneaut 
Red Hats.  She enjoyed playing piano and organ, reading, and traveling. 
 
Survivors include her daughter Judy (Brad) Riddle of Lincoln, NE; five sons, 
Bradley (Connie) Barris of Rome, GA, Gary (Wanda) Barris, Thomas (Sue) Barris, 
and Timothy (Judith) Barris all of Conneaut, OH, and William (Pam) Barris 
of Springfield, IL; her sister Shirley (Carl) Oxiey of North 
Kingsville, OH; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Floyd J.  Barris on 
May 12, 2002. 
 
Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 14, at the Marcy Funeral Home 
and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, with the Rev.  Andrew 
Warren, pastor of First Assembly of God, officiating.  Burial 
will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, OH.

PIERPONT - Gertrude "Trudy" BeBout, 71, of St.  Rt.  7 S., 
Pierpont, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon, June 10, 2005, at UHHS Brown 
Memorial Hospital in Conneaut. 
 
Mrs.  BeBout was born July 13, 1933, in Cleveland, the daughter of Jerry and 
Bertha (Davis) Jacobson, and has been a resident of the Pierpont-Andover area 
since 1990, moving from Windsor. 
 
Mrs.  BeBout was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing and was a 
big fan of NASCAR racing.  She also loved her two cats, Tipper and Sassy. 
 
She was a former auxiliary member of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Dept.  for many 
years. 
 
Survivors include her husband, Robert BeBout of Pierpont; six children, Terry 
Schiff of Columbus, Debi (Chris) Wade of Cortland, Barb Erjavec of Cuyahoga 
Falls, Dale (Audrey) of Colebrook, Dave (Debbie) BeBout of Chesterland, and Bob 
(Jackie) BeBout of Monroe Twp.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was born October 30, 1937, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Burton B.  and 
Clara E.  (Fockler) Wright and had been a lifelong Kingsville resident. 
 
She attended Edgewood High School and, prior to her retirement, worked 26 years 
for Premix. 
 
Mrs.  Davis loved playing the organ, cooking, crocheting, and making quilts and 
embroidery. 
 
Her survivors include her husband of 51 years, Lowell Davis, whom she married 
June 1, 1954; four children, Lowell Lee (Donna) Davis of Fisher, IL, Debbie Lynn 
Hudson and Russell G.  (Sheri Rea) Davis, both of Ashtabula, and Phillip 
N.  (Kathryn) Davis of Farmer City, IL; eight grandchildren, Christina, Michael, 
Robin, Joseph, Amanda, Russell, Nicolle, and Steffani; two great-grandchildren, 
Devin and Megan; one brother, Lyle Wright of Arizona; and one sister, Irene 
Grabenstein of Savanna, GA.   
 
She was preceded in death by one brother, Earl Wright; one sister, Joyce Dunn;

Ashtabula, died Monday, June 13, 2005, at the Country Club Retirement Center in

She was born September 18, 1927 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, the daughter of the 
late Elmer C. and Charlotta (Oldacker) Keplinger. She resided in the Conneaut 
and Ashtabula area most of her life.  
 
In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening and playing cards. 
 
She is survived by three sons, Dennis Liszewski of North Kingsville, Mark 
Liszewski of Ashtabula, and Carlton Hood of Jacksonville, Florida; seven 
grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a brother, Glenn Keplinger of 
Fort Worth, Texas. 
 
Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Hood; 
her second husband, Alfred Liszewski; her third husband, Ralph Wagoner; and a 
brother, Eugene Keplinger.

A lifelong Conneaut resident, she was born January 20, 1930 to the late 
Samuel and Elizabeth (Simon) Hathy. 
 
A 1948 graduate of Conneaut High School, Miss Hathy was employed for 44 
years in the office at the Conneaut Telephone Company. She was a member of the 
Hungarian Evangelical Reformed Church and its Friendship Circle. She enjoyed 
coupon collecting, crafts, crocheting, sewing, and baby-sitting for her family. 
 
Survivors include two brothers, Howard F. "Satch" (Marilyn) Hathy, and Edward L. 
"Louie" Hathy of Conneaut; two sisters-in-law, Jean Hathy of Conneaut, 
and Louise Hathy of San Mateo, Florida; and a number of nieces, nephews, 
great-nieces, and great-nephews. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Robert, Samuel, 
Richard, and Kenneth Hathy.

CONNEAUT -- Elizabeth Ann Castrilla, age 63 of 
Conneaut, died Thursday afternoon at the Cleveland Clinic. 
 
Ann was born in Jolo, West Virginia, on June 14, 1942, the daughter of Myron and 
Lessie Blevins Wilder. Ann graduated from Iaeger High in 1961. 
 
She worked at the Cleveland Clinic for six years as a receptionist in the 
Rhematoid Arthritis Department. She moved to Conneaut and worked at the former 
EMCO Wheaton in production. She later opened and operated Jo-Ann Flowers with 
her late husband, Joseph Castrilla, until illness forced the flower shop to 
close. In 1997, Ann received a Heart Transplant and following a recovery period 
went back to work. Ann has been employed with General Aluminum for over 14 years 
as a group leader and at TIP Machine as an inspector. 
 
Ann was active years ago in the Cub Scouts and Weblos. She was the Welcome Wagon 
secretary, she enjoyed bowling, ceramic and sewing. She also was Past President 
of the Chestnut PTA. Ann enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. 
 
Ann is survived by one daughter, Charlotte (Oscar) Kobernik of Conneaut; 
and a son, Jay (Kim) Cvetko of Orlando, Florida; and two grandchildren, Colleen 
and Kelly; and one great-grandson, Kyle, who called her Ann Ann, whom she 
adored. 
 
Ann was preceded in death by her father, Myron Wilder; her grandparents, who 
raised her, Wallace and Elizabeth Blevins; and her husband, Joseph A. Castrilla 
in 2003. 
 
At Ann's request, there will be no Calling Hours.

KREGER 
 
CONNEAUT -- Charles Q. Kreger, age 73, of Conneaut, died 
unexpectedly early Saturday morning, June 18, 2005, at his residence. 
 
Mr. Kreger was born March 31, 1932 in Erie, Pennsylvania, the son of the late 
Joseph and Anna Marie Haibach Kreger. Charles graduated from Girard High School 
class of 1951. He went on to enlist in the United States Navy and honorably 
served his country aboard the destroyer USS Hunt as a Sonarman 3rd class, from 
1952 until 1955. He attended Gannon University for two years and then came to 
Conneaut to own and operate the Western Auto Store with his father. Charles was 
the owner/operator for over 41 years, and he recently retired in 1997. In 1997 
he decided to devote his free time to the city of Conneaut, being elected to 
serve as Council at Large for six years. Charles had a deep love and affection 
for the city of Conneaut and its people. Charles especially enjoyed donating his 
time for charitable causes, as well as helping with many, many functions at his 
church.   
 
He was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Conneaut and enjoyed being 
a Eucharistic Minister and giving communion to the sick. He was a member of the 
Knights of Columbus Council #627, Past Grand Knight and Trustee, and the Leo J. 
Cain Assembly 4th Degree. He was also member of the Lake Erie Boat Club, the 
Monroe Sportsman Club, served on the Chamber of Commerce Board, and Past 
President of the Merchant's Board. He served on the Finance and Advisory Board 
of St. John High School and St. Frances Cabrini School Building and Grounds 
Committee, the original City Charter Commission and the Charter Review 
Committee, and various other boards and committees for the city of Conneaut.   
 
Charles also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending many hours with his 
grandchildren.   
 
Charles is survived by his wife, Marilyn Meekins Kreger, whom he married October 
19, 1963 at St. George's Church in Erie, Pennsylvania; two sons, Charles Q. 
Kreger II of Toledo and Lt. Paul Kreger stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; 
five daughters, Dawn and Anthony Parker of Newtown, Pennsylvania, Deborah and 
Donald LeMelle of Springfield, Ohio, Dorothy Rusk of Edinboro, Pennsylvania, 
Denise and Scott Allen of Conneaut, and Diana Kreger of Conneaut; two brothers, 
Paul Kreger of Erie, Pennsylvania and Gerard Kreger of Lake City, Pennsylvania; 
three sisters, Mary Grace Kreger of Erie, Pennsylvania, Roselyn Whitney of 
Anderson, South Carolina and Marsha Gay Diefenbach of Erie, Pennsylvania; 
sixteen grandchildren, Angela, Nicholas, Spencer and Abigail Parker, Kevin, 
Hillary, Daniel, Cecilia, and Claire LeMelle, Zachary, Emerson, Jr., and 
Christopher Rusk, Matthew, Hannah, and Rebecca Williams, and Emily Allen; and

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Hope Alexandra Kreger;

CONNEAUT -- Howard M. Maenpaa, age 61, died Monday, June 
20, 2005, at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA. 
 
Howard was born December 26, 1943 in Conneaut, OH, the son of Jacob 
Veinon and Jennie Syrja Maenpaa. He graduated from Conneaut High School 
in 1962 and then went on to enlist in the United States Army. He served as a 
Military Police in the Army until he was honorably discharged in 1966. 
 
He went to work for the P&C Dock Company and later the Bessemer Railroad as a 
Car Knocker until 1980. He went on to work for the Conneaut School System 
as a custodian until a disability forced him to retire. 
 
Mr. Maenpaa loved playing for and coaching the Chateau Lounge softball league 
for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and going to his cabin in the 
Tidioute Mountains in Pennsylvania. He enjoyed socializing around town, rock & 
roll music and crossword puzzles. 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents. 
 
Mr. Maenpaa is survived by one son, Erik M. Maenpaa of Conneaut; three 
daughters, Tarja and Charles Crows of Willstone, FL, Liisa and Michael Wassie of
Conneaut, and Sanni Maenpaa of Conneaut; one brother, Dennis (Pug) 
and Ozzie Maenpaa of Victorville, CA; one sister Cynthia Maenpaa of Conneaut;

Mrs. Wood was a 1931 graduate of Painesville Harvey High School and had resided 
most of her life in Conneaut where she was owner and office manager of Printcraft, Inc. since 1940 until her retirement in 1985. 
 
She was a member of Amboy United Methodist Church and the Happy Oldsters of the 
church. She was also a member of Rose Chapter #22 Order of Eastern Star, serving 
as organist for three years; was a former officer of the Conneaut Chamber of 
Commerce; and served on the Board of Trustees of Brown Memorial Hospital. 
 
She enjoyed playing the organ, eating out with friends, reading, and crossword 
puzzles. 
 
Survivors include two nieces, Lois Snyder of Powell, OH and Sally Featherstone 
of Dallas, NC; a nephew, Tom Dunham of Ashtabula; and her special friends and 
caregivers, Rebecca and Joseph Vespe of Conneaut. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John E. Wood on March 4, 
1977; and a brother, Clifford Shellman in 1994.

Born November 11, 1924 in Conneaut, OH, she was the daughter of Michael 
and Erminia (Fatticcio) Mucci. On September 20, 1947, she married John Tredent 
in Conneaut. 
 
Mrs. Tredent worked at the former Farmers Bank and Carlisle's Department Store. 
 
She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ashtabula, the Altar and 
Rosary Society of the Church, and a former member of Sons of Italy of America 
Anita Garibaldi Lodge. 
 
Her hobbies included bingo and cooking. She was a devoted mother and 
grandmother. 
 
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, John Tredent of Ashtabula; daughters, 
Sheila (Robert) Domizi and Carol Rovit, both of Highland Heights, and Gina 
(Brian) Koski of Mentor; sons, John (Gloria) Tredent Jr. of Calabasas, CA and 
Donald (Christine) Tredent of Ashtabula; grandchildren, Lisa and Amy Domizi, 
Joe, Katherine, Elizabeth, Lindsay, and John III Tredent, and Jenna and Mathew

CECIL D. BENNETT 
 
CONNEAUT -- Former Conneaut, OH, resident, Cecil D. 
Bennett, age 92, of North Port, FL, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at 
Tandem Nursing Home in Port Charlotte, FL. 
 
He was born July 6, 1912, in Buckanan, WV, the son of Albert and Esta (Hombeck) 
Bennett. 
 
He operated a fruit farm, Tri-Orchards, and later did cement contracting in 
Conneaut, OH. He retired to North Port, FL, permanently in 1982, where he 
was a member of North Port First Baptist Church. 
 
Survivors include two sisters, Alberta Ericsen of Conneaut and Catherine 
Tuttle of Phoenix, AZ; two sons, Thomas A. Bennett of North Port, FL and Delmas 
C. Bennett of Conneaut; three step-children, Leroy Lewis, Peggy Lewis and 
Cecilia Litchford; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two 
great-great-grandchildren. 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret (Cline) Bennett in 
1991; his second wife, Margot Lewis in 1997; four brothers; and two sisters. 
 
Services were held in Port Charlotte, FL.

CHARLES E. GRICE 
 
CONNEAUT -- Charles E. "Gene" Grice, age 96, of 
Conneaut, OH, died Friday morning, June 24, 2005, at The Villa At The Lake. 
 
He was born August 27, 1908 in Watseka, IL, and was the son of Charles and 
Fannie Susan (Foreman) Grice. 
 
A Conneaut resident since childhood, Mr. Grice was employed as parts 
manager with Emhoff, Montz, and Gill GM Dealerships. He worked for G.E. during 
World War II, the Conneaut Can Company, and had sailed on the Great 
Lakes. He also owned a moving company and hauled milk. 
 
He was a life member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #256, and was one of the original 
members of the former Conneaut Country Club, and Windy Hill. He was an 
avid golfer and had scored three holes in one. 
 
Survivors include his daughter, Janet M. (Edd) Turner of Amherst, OH; two sons, 
George E. Grice of Ashtabula and Jerry H. (Jane) Grice of Mayville, NY; a 
sister, Clara (Howard) Smiley of Conneaut; a brother, William F. (Ruth) 
Grice of Conneaut; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five 
great-great-grandchildren. 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, June (Halyday) Grice; 
his second wife, Ida (Gruey) Grice; a granddaughter, Donna McLaughlin; a 
brother, Ernest Grice; and four sisters, Vera Haas, Bess Gulick, Cynthia (Babe) 
Holden, and Yola (Bobbie) Whaley. 
 
Graveside Service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, June 27, 2005, in Glenwood 
Cemetery. There will be no visitation observed. 
 
Memorial contributions may be made to the Recreational Fund of The Villa 
At The Lake. Envelopes are available at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION 
CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut, OH, which has charge of arrangements.

DONNA L. MCLAUGHLIN 
 
CONNEAUT -- Donna Lucille McLaughlin, age 90, a resident of 
Conneaut, OH, died Friday, June 24, 2005, at the Austinburg Rehabilitation 
Center. 
 
She was born April 7, 1915, in Albion, PA, the daughter of Glenn and Flossie 
Wood. On May 1, 1936, she married Francis V. McLaughlin of Albion, PA. 
 
Mrs. McLaughlin had worked for Sealtest Dairy, and prior to that had been the 
owner/ operator of McLaughlin Grocery Store for many years. 
 
She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Conneaut. 
 
Her hobbies included playing bingo, reading, and gospel music. She enjoyed 
spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 
 
Her survivors include her children, daughter Martha Ann Park of Ponte Vedra 
Beach, FL; three sons, Richard (Lori) McLaughlin of Conneaut, David 
(Erika) McLaughlin and Gary (Mary) McLaughlin, all of Kingsville; 
grandchildren, Tom Park of WA, Melinda (Tom) Lovering of ME, Kenny (Angela) 
McLaughlin of TX, Gary D. McLaughlin of North Kingsville, Kim McLaughlin 
of CA, David (Stacey) McLaughlin of Conneaut, Shelli (Steve) Downard of 
GA, Rick (Jean) and Gary (Jeanette) McLaughlin, and Jennifer (Brian) McConnell, 
all of Conneaut; sister, Martha Teed of Lady Lake, FL; 15 
great-grandchildren; and two nieces and one nephew. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis, in 1963; her 
brother, Clair; and her sister, Thora. 
 
At her request, there will be no calling hours; cremation will take 
place. Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2005, at 10:00 AM at 
Glenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL 
HOME, 345 Main St., Conneaut

LAWRENCE R. BECKER 
  
CONNEAUT -- Lawrence R. Becker, age 65, of Conneaut, died 
Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at Inn Conneaut Health Center. 
 
Mr. Becker was born June 8, 1940 in Corry, Pennsylvania, the son of Richard and 
Dorothy J. (Rose) Becker. He was a 1958 graduate of Conneaut High School. 
Lawrence was a self employed Notary Republic and he retired after working at 
various retail stores in Ashtabula and the Erie, Pennsylvania area. He also was 
an ordained minister of the United Faith Ministries.   
 
He enjoyed collecting key rings, local trivia, history, flea marketing, 
collecting religious memorabilia, gospel music and visiting and spending time 
with friends and family.   
 
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy J. Becker of Kingsville; his wife, Linda 
S. Stillwagon Becker, whom he married October 12, 1973; two sons, Kenneth L. 
Becker of Cumberland, Maryland, and Edward L. Becker of Conneaut; two daughters, 
Sheri L. Burdette of Conneaut, and Larinda A. Reidl of Saybrook; and eight 
grandchildren, Andrew, Holly and Sierra Reidl, Ryan, Bethany and Kaitlin 
Burdette, Mollee Ansorge and Klaudia Becker. 
 
Lawrence was preceded in death by his father, Richard J. Becker; and a grandson, 
Ian Alexander Becker. 
 
Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m., Friday, July 1 at the RAISIAN 
FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut, with Father Raymond Thomas of 
St. Mary and St. Frances Cabrini Parishes, officiating. Burial will follow at 
St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.

June 30, 2005 ASHLEY N. EICHELE 
 CONNEAUT -- 
Ashley Nicole Eichele, age 16, of Beaver Street, died Monday, June 27, 
2005 at University Hospitals of Cleveland.  
 
She was born September 19, 1988 in Erie, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Lyle E. 
and Mary Jane (Morrow) Eichele, and had been a lifelong area resident.  
 
Recently baptized Catholic, she had a passion of caring for others before 
thinking of herself. She enjoyed sewing and art, and participated in numerous 
fundraisers for Cystic Fibrosis, a disease she had battled since birth.  
 
Her survivors include her mother and step-father, Mary Jane and James Rivers who 
had been her longtime caregivers; one brother, Jonathan Eichele of Conneaut; 
numerous aunts and uncles, including Lisa and Russell Turner; her maternal 
grandparents, Duane and Sandra Morrow of Albion, Pennsylvania; and her father of 
Conneaut.  
 
She was preceded in death by one brother, Lyle Lester Blinn Eichele; and one 
sister, Brittany Mae Eichele.  
 
A Service will be held 10 a.m., Friday, July 1, at Greenlawn Memory 
Gardens Mausoelum Chapel, 3140 East Center Street, North Kingsville, with 
Reverend Father Raymond Thomas, Pastor of St. Mary's and St. Francis Cabrini 
Churches presiding.  Burial will follow.  
 
Calling Hour will be Friday, from 9-10 a.m., at the Mausoleum Chapel.  
 
Contributions may be made to the family.
