MARGARET I. SCHATZ
CONNEAUT -- Margaret I. Schatz, age 85, of Conneaut, OH, passed
away Sunday, October 2, 2005, to be with the Lord. She was born in Aberdeen,
Scotland, on September 15, 1920. At the age of 2, she sailed by ship with her
mother, Margaret G. Robertson, and her brother, Stanley Robertson, to the United
States. Her father, James Gray Robertson, found work at the P&C Dock Co., and
they were on their way to set up a new home in Conneaut, OH.
After graduation, Margaret attended Spencerian Business College, later working
for the N&W Railroad as a dispatcher. She met Robert Eugene Schatz, and they
were married on March 12, 1948, and had four children. She worked as a secretary
at Robertson Real Estate and later returned to school to become a real-estate
agent. After receiving her license, she sold real estate in Conneaut until her
retirement.
Margaret was a member of the United Church of Christ, was active in scouting,
Rose Chapter #22 O.E.S., Rainbow Girls, loved knitting, and collecting dolls and
antiques.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Schatz; her parents, James
and Margaret Robertson; and her brother, Stanley Robertson.
Survivors include Robert J. Schatz (son) and his wife, Cheri, of New
Philadelphia, OH; Bonnie M. Allchin (daughter) and Troy Weske of Conneaut, OH;
John S. Schatz (son) and his wife, Pat, of West Springfield, PA; and Mary S.
Moore (daughter) and Mick Brocious of East Springfield, PA; and seven
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and Muffin, her beloved pet.
Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at the
MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, with Tim
Kraus of the Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today, October 4, 2005, from 2 to 4
p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Conneaut Rescue Squad or the
Animal Protective League. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

ROBERT
J. PINCKNEY
CONNEAUT -- Robert J. Pinckney, 73, of Conneaut, OH, died
Monday morning, October 3, at his home. He was born January 25, 1932, in East
Springfield, PA, and was a son of William and Lila (Howard) Pinckney.
Mr. Pinckney spent most of his life in the Springfield area and was employed for
30 years at the Norfolk & Western Railroad, retiring in 1981. He served in the
U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Evergreen Lodge #222 F
& AM, and enjoyed farming and country living, and listening to the radio. He was
a loving man who instilled good work ethics and strong moral character in his
family.
Survivors include five daughters, Kim (Pinckney) Peebles and husband Pat of
Erie, PA, Barbara Pinckney of Krum, TX, Connie (Peters) and husband Ronnie
Nelson, Karen (Peters) and husband Bud Wright all of Conneaut, OH, and Colleen
(Peters) and husband Dave Richards of Zionsville, IN; a son Scott Pinckney of
Conneaut, OH; a brother William Pinckney of East Springfield, PA; 12
grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Gary Pinckney in 1986, and his
former wife Rita Pinckney in 1996.
Graveside service will be held at 4:30 PM., Thursday, October 6, in East
Springfield Cemetery, East Springfield, PA.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice. Envelopes are
available at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St.,
Conneaut, OH, which has charge of arrangements.
FRANK RZESZUTEK
KINGSVILLE -- Frank Rzeszutek, age 84, of Gageville-Monroe
Road, died Monday, October 3, 2005, at his home.
Born October 16, 1920, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Paul and Kazmira (Oldakowska)
Rzeszutek.
Frank served in the United States Marine Corps during W.W.II, obtaining the rank
of Sergeant and receiving a Purple Heart, before being honorably discharged.
He retired from Reliance Electric.
Frank belonged to the Plymouth United Methodist Church and was a former member
of the Gageville United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Ashtabula
Moose Lodge #547.
He enjoyed playing pinochle, dancing, singing, and working in his orchard.
Survivors include two children: a daughter, Kathryn (Bill) Maylish of Jefferson,
and a son, Ernest (Lois) Lawrence of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Julieanna Hogan of
Englewood, FL.; and a brother, Ed Rzeszutek of Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; a daughter, Patricia Saturday;
three brothers, Alex, John, and Chester; and a sister, Angeline Randolph.
Calling Hours will be Thursday, October 6, 2005, from 7 to 9 p.m. at
ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
Service will be held Friday, October 7, 2005, at 12:30 p.m. at Plymouth United
Methodist Church. Reverend Vernon Palo, Pastor of the church, will officiate.
Burial will follow at Gageville Cemetery with Full Military Honors by VFW
Post #6846.

EDWARD J. HALLER
ASHEVILLE, NC -- Edward James (Mr. Ed) Haller, age 63, passed
away Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
He was born on June 22, 1942, and was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and a former
employee of Euclid Inc.
Ed was an avid motorcyclist and nature lover. In accordance with his wishes, his
ashes will be scattered over the "Butterfly Path" on the Blue Ridge Parkway in
North Carolina.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Soyenova) of Black Mountain, NC;
sons, John and James (Diane) Haller; daughter, Nora (Shawn) Mraz; grandchildren,
Edward Haller, Valerie Taddie and Jennifer Willrich; loving sisters, Diane
(Michael) Reminder of Jefferson, OH, and Judee (Paul) Mosher of Virginia Beach,
VA; and dear brother, David of Lakewood, CO. He was uncle to Michael Cesnik,
James Reminder, Jenniffer Haller, Gary Wiltshire, Douglas Wiltshire, Loree Mara,
and Dawn Rudelt, and a great uncle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elroy and Eleanor Haller; son, Edward
Haller; daughter, Julie Haller; and nephew, Kenneth Cesnik.
Private Services will be held at the VA
Hospital Chapel in Asheville, NC, on Saturday, October 8, 2005.
Mr. Ed's life will be celebrated with a gathering of family and friends at 4911
Gerald Road, Saybrook, OH, on Saturday, October 8, 2005, from 2 to 6 p.m.

LILLIAN E. LANE
ASHTABULA -- Lillian E. Lane, age 82, went home to be with the
Lord Thursday evening, October 6, 2005. She was a resident of the Ashtabula
County Nursing Home.
Born December 15, 1923, in Kingsville, OH, she was the daughter of Alton and
Bessie (Matthews) Lyons.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kingsville.
Mrs. Lane enjoyed her flower garden, making quilts, and baking pies.
Survivors include two sons, Floyd of Jefferson and David of Sheffield; a
daughter, Karen Light of North Kingsville; seven grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Prine of Jefferson and Rosa Lyons of
Ashtabula.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; a brother,
Robert; and a sister, Betty Vote.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2005, in the
GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 6280 South Main Street, North Kingsville, with burial to
follow in Gageville Cemetery.

JAMES A. POHMAN
WEST SPRINGFIELD, PA -- James A. Pohman, age 66, of West
Springfield, PA, died Thursday, October 6, 2005, at the Veterans Administration
Medical Center, Erie, PA.
Jim was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 17, 1939, the son of the late Frank
Joseph Pohman and Suzanne J. (Martin) Pohman Parmerter.
Jim joined the U.S. Army in 1959 and served our country honorably during the
Vietnam War. He came home and went to work for EMCO Weaton in Conneaut, Ohio,
where he retired after 26 years of service as a machine operator.
Jim was a life-time member of the V.F.W. Post #4965 of West Springfield, PA. In
his spare time, Jim enjoyed planting flowers, gardening, caring for birds, and
had a passion for watching movies.
Jim is survived by a daughter, Laura Myers of Erie, PA; two sisters, Dorothy
Hlifka (George) of Conneaut, Ohio, and Susan Wiley (Gordon) of Fairview, PA; and
a brother, George M. Parmerter (Pam) of Girard, PA. He is also survived by two
granddaughters and 13 nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the JEAN EVANS THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME at 11883 Main
Street, East Springfield, PA, on Monday, October 10, 2005, from 10 a.m. until
the time of the Life Celebration Service at 3 p.m., celebrated by Fr. James A.
Reardon of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will be in Springfield

KATHLEEN COLLINS
CONNEAUT -- M. Kathleen "Katie" Collins, age 82, of Conneaut,
Ohio, died Sunday, October 9, 2005, at the Select Specialty Unit of Hamot in
Erie, Pennsylvania.
She was born April 27, 1923, in Conneaut, Ohio, the daughter of Thomas J. and
Mary (Coyne) Beisty. She attended St. Mary's School, and was a 1941 Conneaut
High School graduate.
After high school, she entered the U.S. Navy where she served in W.W. II as a
pharmacist's mate. She later worked at the local Kerners Store in Conneaut.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Irish Colleens, American Legion Cowle
Post #151, Conneaut Women of the Moose, Conneaut Eagles Auxiliary, and the V.F.W.
#943 of Ashtabula, Ohio.
Katie loved dogs and was very proud of her Irish heritage.
Survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Lilly of Bellevue, Ohio; her sister, Eileen
(Larry) Ryan of Lutherville, MD; her nephew, John (Karen) Ryan of Deltona, FL;
her caregiver, Margaret "Peg" Lowery of Conneaut; five grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack on October 4, 1993;
two brothers, Thomas F. and John E. Beisty; her sister, Patricia Ann Beisty; a
step-son, John Collins, Jr.; and her niece, Laurie Ryan Stopa.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, October 14, 2005, at St. Mary
Catholic Church, 480 State Street, Conneaut, Ohio, with Reverend Raymond Thomas
officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut, with Full
Military Rites.
A Memorial Luncheon will be held at the American Legion, following the
Graveside Service.

Cedar Springs, MI, and Betty Gildone of Conneaut, OH.
She attended Conneaut High School, and also resided in Chicago, Florida, and
Colorado.

daughters, Regina Dillabough of Merritt Island, FL, Lorena Brockmeyer of Key
Heights, FL, Sara Patterson of Palm Bay , FL, and Rachel Peterson of Grand

Scottsdale, AZ; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was born on April 5, 1918, in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Charles N. and
Helen (Stoyka) Rock, and had been a lifetime area resident. She had been
employed at the Ashtabula Hotel.
Surviving her is a daughter, Dawn (Bill) Burgess of Andover; two grandchildren,
Daniel and Abbey Burgess; three Brothers, Nicholas and Thomas Rock of
Painesville, and Michael Rock of Ashtabula, and a sister, Helen Bader of
Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald F. Lewis, in 2003;
a daughter, Barbara Lewis; two brothers, Andrew and Charles Rock; and three
sisters, Cecilia Stoyka, Mary Scion and Anna Yendrick.
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2005, at the ROSS-BILLMAN

ELSIE E. (HACKATHORN) HUDSON
PIERPONT -- Elsie E. (Hackathorn) Hudson, died peacefully in
her sleep at her home in Pierpont Thursday October 13, 2005, of Pancreatic
Cancer.
She was born October 22, 1921, in Ashtabula. She was the eldest of eight
children born to Emory E. and Rena (Bliss) Hackathorn. Her siblings included
Irene Brooks of Ashtabula, Bernice Pebbles of Ashtabula, Kate May deceased,
Gilbert Hackathorn deceased, Edward Hackathorn deceased, Phyllis Powell
deceased, Richard Hackathorn of Conneaut.
Elsie married Myron Hudson in Pierpont on June 7, 1938. Myron died in 1995.
Together they had four children, Dr. Bill Hudson (Jo Berg) of Madison, daughters
Rena, Sue and Pamela of Pierpont. They were blessed with two grandchildren,
Mitchell Hudson of Pierpont and Marcy Kurian (Darryl) of Euclid. Also added much
joy to her life were great-grandchildren Mitchell Withrow of Ashtabula and Chloe
Kurian of Euclid.
A life long learner she returned to high school after a long absence and
graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1968.
She was a homemaker and together with her husband and children farmed the family
dairy and fruit farm and still found time to garden. She and her family boiled
many a gallon of maple syrup in the spring. She served as a 4-H leader for many
years. She was very active in the early years with the Ashtabula County Council
for Retarded Citizens holding offices of Treasurer, Secretary and President.
She was an excellent needle worker and crafter who shared her talents by teaching
others to knit, crochet, quilt and other crafts.
She was a Golden Sheaf Member of The Grange.
Calling Hours will be on Monday October 17, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday October 18, 2005. Both Services
will be at the CHILDS & WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME, in Pierpont. Interment will
follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Pierpont. The family asks that in lieu of
flowers donations be made to the Pierpont Fire Dept., or to the Hospice of the
Western Reserve. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

ERIE, PA -- Nora M. Grubke, age 78, of Center Rd., Monroe Twp.,
died Saturday, October 15, 2005, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA.
She was born on May 22, 1927, in Conneaut, OH, to the late Maurice and Arloeine
(Dean) Simon, and has resided in the area all of her life.
Nora received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Muskingum College and a
Master's Degree in Nursing from Case Western Reserve. Mrs. Grubke was a member
of Monroe United Methodist Church but attended Jefferson United Methodist
Church. Nora really enjoyed her grandchildren and attending all of their
sporting events.
At her request, cremation has taken place. There will be no calling
hours. A graveside service will be held on Friday October 21, 2005, at 1 p.m.,
at Kelloggsville Cemetery, Monroe Center Rd., Monroe Twp., with Rev. Meredith
Coleman, of Jefferson United Methodist Church, officiating.

NORA M. GRUBKE
MONROE TOWNSHIP -- Nora M. Grubke, age 78, of Center Road,
Monroe Township, died Saturday, October 15, 2005, at Hamot Medical Center in
Erie, PA.
She was born on May 22, 1927, in Conneaut, OH, to the late Maurice and Arloeine
(Dean) Simons, and has resided in this area her entire life.

Brown Memorial Hospital for over 20 years and taught a Nursing Class at Kent

Mrs. Grubke really enjoyed her grandchildren and attending all their sporting
events.
Survivors include a daughter, Sara (Richard) Kreisher, and a son, James (Anita)
Grubke, both of Monroe Township; four grandchildren, Hattie Grubke, Sharon
Grubke, Kara Kreisher, and Riley Kreisher; and a brother, Richard Simons of
Ashtabula.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Daniel; parents, Maurice and Arloeine
Simons; and a grandson, Daniel.
At her request, cremation has taken place. There will be no calling

CONNEAUT -- James Daniel Poff, infant son of Daniel Poff and
Mellisa Hammer, died Thursday, October 13, 2005, in Hamot Medical Center, Erie,
PA, shortly after birth.
Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Samantha, Brittney, and
Abigail; his grandparents, James (Mick) and Cheryl Poff, Debbie Lawson, and Gary
and Cheryl Hammer; his great-grandparents, Ruth and Robert Cain, Barbara Poff,
Judy and Willard Lawson, and Cora Hammer; and his great-great-grandparents,
Roland and Ruth Hammer, Cleo Irwin, and Audrey Lawson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19,
2005, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Frank Gore
officiating. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

PIERPONT TOWNSHIP -- Marie Marva Barnes, age 56, of Middle
Road, Pierpont Township, OH, died early Wednesday morning, October 12, 2005, at
the Jefferson Health Center, where she had been a patient for the past three
months.
She was born July 25, 1949, in Charleston, SC, the daughter of LeRoy and Lucinda
(Hicks) Phoenix, and has lived in the area since 1988, moving here from Miami,
FL.
She is survived by three sons, Derrick of Pierpont, Eric M. of Huntington, WV,
and Norris A. Barnes of Pierpont; her mother, Lucinda Hicks of South Carolina;
and two sisters, Carol Phoenix and Jeanette Hicks of Miami, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her father, LeRoy Phoenix.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19,
2005, at the FLEMING FUNERAL HOME, INC., 49 West Jefferson Street, Jefferson,
OH, with the Reverend Brad White officiating.

THOMAS JOSEPH "T.J."
WILCOX-WILLIAMS
MONROE TWP. -- Thomas Joseph "T.J." Wilcox-Williams, age 15, of
Springboro, PA, died Sunday morning October 16, 2005, in Monroe Twp., OH. He was
born on November 16, 1989, in Conneaut, OH, and was the son of Roy J. Williams
of Beaver Center, PA and Cheryl (Wilcox) Dombroski of Kingsville, OH.
T.J. attended Bethesda School in Meadville, PA, and was employed in the summer
at Dave Lamb, Jr.'s farm. He was a Civil war Re-enactor and was a member of the
gun crew of the Cushing-Taylor Battery of Union City, PA. T.J. enjoyed raising
rabbits and animals in general and was a member of the 4-H Club in both Crawford
and Ashtabula Counties. He was also an avid "Elvis" fan.
Besides his parents T.J. is also survived by his grandparents, Sally Williams of
Monroe Twp, OH, Caroline Greenlee of New port Richey, FL, Tom and Mary Swalley
of Kingsville, OH, David and Vickie Wilcox and Doreen Wilcox all of Conneaut,
OH; two sisters, Judy Williams of Nelson, FL, and Ashley Dombroski of
Jacksonville, FL; several aunts, uncles, and more distant relatives.
He was preceded in death by two grandfathers, Joseph Williams and Wally
Greenlee, and two uncles, Tom and Tim Swalley.

ASHTABULA -- Lori E. McCroskey, age 38, of Gageville Rd.,
Sheffield Twp., died unexpectedly Thursday, October 20, 2005, at the Ashtabula
County Medical Center.
She was born on November 27, 1966, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Harold and
Bessie (Holbrook) McCroskey. She had lived in Sheffield Twp. her entire life.
Lori attended the Gageville United Methodist Church, and was employed by Giant
Eagle in Conneaut as the Head Baker and Cake Decorator. She graduated from
Edgewood High School and the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School in 1985.
She received an Associate's degree from Lakeland Community College. She enjoyed
collecting antiques, Care Bears, glassware and several other kinds of
collectibles.
She is survived by her parents, Harold and Bessie McCroskey of Sheffield Twp.;
two sisters, Sandy McCroskey of Sheffield Twp., and Lynda and David Beeman of
Las Vegas, Nevada; a brother, Michael, and Linda McCroskey of Conneaut; and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Gregory McCroskey; her grandparents,
George W. and Dessie McCroskey; and Frank and Mary Holbrook.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2005, at
Gageville United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Anderson, pastor,
officiating. Interment will follow in Gageville cemetery. Friends may call at
the THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main St., Conneaut, OH, on Sunday, October
23, 2005, from 2 to 5 p.m.
JOHN P. FITZGERALD
CONNEAUT -- John P. Fitzgerald, age 65, formerly of Pittsburgh,
PA, died Tuesday, October 18, 2005, in Conneaut, OH, at the home of his
daughter. He was born on August 23, 1939, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of John and
Grace (Culley) Fitzgerald.
He was a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, moving to Conneaut a short time ago.
He was employed by J & L Steel as a steelworker, retiring in 2003. He attended
St. Mary Catholic Church in Conneaut and also St. Peter's Catholic Church in
Pittsburgh. He enjoyed scratching lotto tickets and collecting coins, salt and
pepper shakers, and trains.
Survivors include three daughters, Paula Bott of Conneaut, Barbara Sandrick of
Chardon, OH, and Charlotte Hutson of Ashtabula, OH; three sisters, Peggy Proskey
of Michigan, Terry Gigliotti and Kathy Straub, both of West Virginia; his
brother ,Thomas Fitzgerald of West Virginia; eight grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2005, at
the Hutson residence, 6533 Conley Road, Saybrook, OH.

CONSTANCE J. KULTTI
CONNEAUT -- CONSTANCE J. (CONNIE) KULTTI, age 66, of Conneaut
died Friday, October 21, 2005, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 11,1939, in Conneaut the daughter of Patrick and Tess (Drongoski)
Vignal. She graduated from Conneaut High School in 1957. She married her late
husband, Frederick (Fritz) Kultti, in 1962, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed her
dogs, shopping and spending time with family and friends and traveling to visit
her children. Connie was a member of St. Frances and St. Mary Parishes and was
also a member of the Cara Mia Club.
She is survived by three daughters, Tracy Shirkey of Atlanta, Georgia, Marci
Kultti and her fiancé, Jamie Davis of Akron, and Tricia and Steve Mangiafico of
Akron; two sisters, Sandy and Tom Liberatore of Conneaut, and Julie and Dean
Bowers of Kingsville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dixie and Gary Marvin of
Bellevue, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Alex and Anna Beth Shirkey and Abigail
Mangiafico.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Frederick (Fritz)
Kultti.
At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2005,
at 1 p.m, at St. Mary Church, Conneaut, with Father Raymond Thomas officiating.
Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Station Three Rescue Squad, with
envelopes available at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor Street,
Conneaut, where arrangements are being handled.

FRANCES A. ARMSTRONG
CONNEAUT -- Frances A. Armstrong, age 65, went home to be with
the Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2005.
Frances was born May 24, 1940, in Conneaut and was a lifelong resident. She
loved the Lord and wrote poems. She loved working with her computer and talking
to her computer friends about the Lord.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert Armstrong; son, Robert
Armstrong; daughter, Trina Armstrong; and granddaughter, Crystal Dawn Armstrong,
all of Conneaut; brother, John Clark of Utah; sister, Blanche Norton of
Columbus; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lila Clark; and three
sisters, Faye Clark, Ida Rae Jones, and Helen Armstrong.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at 12 p.m.
(Noon) at Greenlawn Memory Gardens. Rev. Jerry Webb of Kelloggsville Church of
Nazarene, will officiate. THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main St., Conneaut,
is handling the arrangements.
