EILEEN F. RAPOSE 
  CONNEAUT – Eileen F. Rapose, age 80 of Conneaut, died Monday, 
February 28, 2005 at Inn Conneaut Health Center, Conneaut. 
    
Mrs. Rapose was born February 8, 1925 in Alta, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and 
Annie (Svenson) Peterson. She graduated from Aurelia Community School in Alta 
and later came to live in Conneaut following her marriage to Raymond L. 
Rapose on Feb. 15, 1947 at St. Mary Church in Conneaut. Eileen worked as 
a retail clerk at the former Woolworth's and later was busy being a housewife 
and taking care of her children.  
    
Eileen was a member of St. Mary Church, in Conneaut. Years ago, Eileen 
enjoyed gardening and dancing with her husband, Raymond. She later enjoyed 
tabletop games and playing cards.  
    
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Bruce Rapose; a sister, Elsie 
Hanson; and two brothers, Marvin Peterson and Alvin Peterson. 
    
Mrs. Rapose is survived by her husband, Raymond L. Rapose, of 58 years; two 
sons, Thomas Rapose of Conneaut and Jeffrey and Michele Rapose, of 
Conneaut; two daughters, Cheryl Rapose of Columbus, Ohio and Cynthia and 
Timothy Ozvath also of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren, Mandy and Kyle Rapose, 
and Amber and Devin Rapose, all of Conneaut. 
    
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 3 at St. 
Mary Church, Conneaut, with Father Raymond Thomas officiating. 
     Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut. 
    
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 
p.m. at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut, Ohio.

MARIBELLE J. SHIELDS 
CONNEAUT – Maribelle J. Shields, age 66 of Center Rd., Conneaut, 
died Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at UHHS-Brown Memorial Hospital. 
    
Mrs. Shields was born March 28, 1938, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Harold and 
Esther Mixer, but has resided in Conneaut most of her life. 
    
Maribelle enjoyed traveling, cooking, and taking care of her home. 
    
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother Danny Mixer. 
    
Mrs. Shields is survived by her husband David G. Shields, of 49 years; daughter 
Renee’ Everhart of Denton, Texas; son Thomas Shields of Maysville, Kentucky; 
grandchildren, Michael Roche, Tyler Everhart, T.J. Shields, and Dan Shields; 
sisters, Alice Gegen, Esther Broad, and Nonie Smith all of Ashtabula; and 
brothers, Harold Mixer Jr. and David Mixer also of Ashtabula. 
    
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 4, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at 
Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, with Rev. Richard 
Smith officiating. 
     Burial will follow at Kelloggsville Cemetery in Monroe 
Township.

IDA D. WASSIE 
  CONNEAUT — Ida D. Wassie, age 77, of Conneaut, OH, died Monday, 
February 28, 2005, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital in Conneaut. 
    
Mrs. Wassie was born May 26, 1927 in Erie, PA, the daughter of Julius and 
Philomena (Mello) Medeiros. She was a 1945 graduate of Conneaut High 
School. 
    
She went on to work in the office at the former Pelton Store in downtown 
Conneaut and she also worked at the former Citizen's National Bank as a 
teller. She was employed for over 25 years as a church secretary for St. Mary 
Church in Conneaut, until her retirement in 2001. 
    
Ida was a member of St. Mary Church, the C.D. of A. where she served as 
Secretary, and the Ladies Guild. She also taught CCD for over 25 years.  
    
Mrs. Wassie enjoyed reading and in the summertime, she enjoyed sitting on her 
front porch. She was very involved with the church prayer line and was very 
active in church activities. She enjoyed the Ladies Guild card parties and 
spending time with her family, grandchildren and her husband, Steve.  
    
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Rebecca Ann Wassie; 
and a sister, Mary Alice Coccitto. 
    
Mrs. Wassie is survived by her husband, Steve J. Wassie, whom she married 
November 3, 1951 at St. Mary Church; three sons, Father Stephen M. Wassie of St. 
Joseph Calasanctius Church, Jefferson and St. Andrews Church, Sheffield 
Township, David A. and Mary Joan Wassie of Conneaut, and Gregory J. and 
Rita Wassie, of Conneaut; a sister, Eleanor Butler of Mentor, OH; six 
grandchildren, Christopher, Kevin, Tonya, Greg Jr., Jonathan, and Zachary; one 
great-grandchild, Clayton John Wassie; and several nieces and nephews. 
    
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2005, 
at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Conneaut, with Father Stephen F. 
Wassie, Ida's son, of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church and St. Andrews Church, 
officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 
Conneaut. 
    
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 
9 p.m., also the Catholic Daughters of America will gather for prayer services 
at 3:30 p.m at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut,

MARJORIE E. LOWRY 
CONNEAUT — Marjorie E. Lowry, age 65, of Conneaut, OH, died 
Tuesday morning, March 1, 2005, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, where she 
had been a patient for the past week. 
    
She was born April 30, 1939 in North Springfield, PA, and was the daughter of 
William and Helen (Kuhn) Pratt. 
    
A Conneaut resident for the past five years, Mrs. Lowry enjoyed spending time 
with her family, playing cards with friends, and feeding the seagulls at the 
public dock. 
    
Survivors include her husband, Daryl Lowry, whom she married July 5, 1958; two 
daughters, Lynda (Michael) Wright of Dallas, TX and Karen Lowry of Conneaut; 
three sons, Steve (Clara) Lowry of Clarendon, PA, David (Marie) Lowry of 
Ashtabula, and Danny of Seattle, WA; her brother, Clarence “Sonny” Pratt of 
Conneaut; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 
    
She was preceded in death by her parents. 
    
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the MARCY 
FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut, OH.

GENEVIEVE E. HAKKIO 
CONNEAUT – Genevieve E. Hakkio, formerly of West Street, Conneaut, 
died Wednesday morning, March 2, 2005 at Inn-Conneaut Health Center. 
    
Mrs. Hakkio was a lifelong resident of Conneaut, having been born in 
Conneaut on Nov. 22, 1908, a daughter of the late Arthur and Luna (Daniels) 
Belnap. 
    
She was a member of the United Church of Christ; a member and Past Matron of 
Rose Chapter #22, Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed golfing. 
    
Survivors include her daughter-in-law Susan Whitney Hakkio of Venice, Fla.; two 
grandchildren, Lisa Purnell of Sugarland, Texas and Betsy Ahola of Brecksville, 
Ohio. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, Ian and Julie Purnell and 
Brian and Sonya Ahola and a sister Ella Shippy of Manteo, North Carolina. 
    
Mrs. Hakkio was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arvo, who died in 
1991; her son George, who died in 2004 and three brothers, Clarence, Hubert and 
Gerald Belnap. 
    
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5 in
Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut with the Rev. 
Walter Coy, pastor of the United Church of Christ officiating. 
    
There will be no calling hours.

in death by two sisters, Lucille Mixer and Beverly Stillman.

 NORTH KINGSVILLE — Ruth S. Johnson, 86, formerly of Harmon Road, 
North Kingsville, OH, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, in the Austinburg 
Rehabilitation Center, Austinburg. 
    
Born in North Kingsville, October 9, 1918, the daughter of the 
late Garnet and Mamie (Lenk) Stewart, she had resided in North 
Kingsville most of her life. For the past year she had lived with her son in 
Geneva. 
    
She was a member of the Amboy United Methodist Church, the Orion Chapter Order 
of Eastern Star in Kingsville, and the American Legion Neal Post Ladies 
Auxiliary. 
     
In her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking, baking, and especially being with her 
family. 
    
She is survived by her son, David S. (Carol) Johnson of Geneva; a granddaughter, 
Crystal (Jon) Bradbury of Geneva; and a great-grandson, Christian Bradbury. 
    
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; a 
daughter, Cynthia Sue Johnson; son, Louis in infancy; and a brother, Harry 
Stewart. 
    
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2005, at the Amboy 
United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Gina Kim, Pastor, officiating, 
assisted by the Reverend John Gross, Pastor of the Geneva United Methodist 
Church. Interment will follow in Eastlake Cemetery, 
North Kingsville.

DIANE R. DIBELL 
CONNEAUT — Diane R. DiBell, age 60, of Liberty Street, Conneaut, 
OH, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center 
following a two year illness. 
    
She was born on February 16, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA, a daughter of Sheldon and 
Mary (Hinderliter) McClain. She was a Conneaut resident most of her life, 
moving from West Springfield, PA. 
    
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the East Conneaut Firefighters 
Association, and had served as an EMT with the Conneaut Rescue Squad. 
    
She loved and enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 
    
She is survived by her husband, Robert P. DiBell, whom she married August 21, 
1975 and renewed their marriage vows on April 11, 1992. Also surviving are two 
sons, Walter “Bud” (Susan) Reinke of Conneaut and Jeffrey Thomas Reinke 
of Cleveland Heights; a sister, Evelyn of Penndale, PA; three grandchildren, 
Ashley (James) Hale and Erin and Cody Reinke; and three great-grandchildren, 
Marcus, Tyler, and Jason. 
    
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a number of brothers and sisters. 
    
At the families request, there will be no Funeral Service.

ASHTABULA — George R. Sabo Sr., 64, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at the 
Ashtabula County Medical Center. 
    
He was born Aug. 17, 1940, in Conneaut, the son of Paul and Mary 
(Roswell) Sabo. He was a graduate of Edgewood High School. He served in the U.S. 
Navy during the early 1960s. 
    
He was employed with Norfolk and Southern Railroad until his retirement. 
    
He was a member of the Harris Memorial Presbyterian Church of Ashtabula; 
Evergreen Lodge #222, F & AM of Conneaut; The Scottish Rite Valley of 
Cleveland; and Covered Bridge Chapter #591, Order of Eastern Star. He enjoyed 
football and all Cleveland sports. 
    
Surviving him are his wife, Nancy (Snyder) Sabo, whom he married Aug. 26, 1963; 
two sons, George (Linda) Sabo Jr. of Saybrook Twp., and Neal (Michelle) Sabo of 
Geneva; two daughters, Janet (Juan) Mendez of Penuelas, Puerto Rico, and Jessica 
Furmage of North Kingsville; six grandchildren, Edythe, Ken and 
Brooke Furmage, Nancy and Maria Mendez, and Elizabeth Sabo; three brothers, Paul 
Sabo of Pennsylvania, Gaylord Sabo of Jefferson, and Charles Sabo of Ashtabula; 
three stepbrothers, Gary Montgomery of Illinois, Jim Montgomery of Texas, and 
Bill Montgomery of Conneaut; and two stepsisters, Nancy Peterson and 
Roberta Meaney of Conneaut. 
    
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his stepmother, Lorene (Montgomery) 
Sabo. 
    
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the ROSS-BILLMAN 
FUNERAL HOME, 526 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, with Rev. Arvid Whetmore of Harris 
Memorial Presbyterian Church officiating. 
     Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North 
Kingsville.

STEPHANIE K. MCMANUS 
  CONNEAUT – Stephanie K. McManus, age 48, of Conneaut, died early 
Saturday afternoon, March 5, 2005, in Conneaut. 
    
Stephanie was born September 10, 1956, in Conneaut, the daughter of 
George and Laura (Prisco-Campbell) Teed. She was a graduate of Conneaut 
High Class of 1974. She went to work at the former Commodore Downs in Erie as a 
horse groomer, at Webb Mfg. and became a housewife following her marriage to her 
husband, John McManus, on Sept. 10, 1977. She later went back to work at Mr. B’s 
Bakery and then graduated from the Vocational School as Valedictorian of the 
cosmetology class. She has worked as a managing cosmetologist at Master Cuts for 
the past 6 years. 
    
Stephanie enjoyed gardening, swimming, snorkeling, tanning, and loved taking 
care of horses. She also enjoyed automotive repair, boating and fishing, and 
recently caught a prize perch, just short of a state record. Stephanie enjoyed 
cutting hair, and spending time with her friends and family. 
    
She was preceded in death by her mother, Laura A. Campbell; her paternal 
grandparents, Haven and Alice Teed; and maternal grandparents, August and Lena 
Prisco. 
    
Stephanie is survived by her husband, John S. McManus; a son, Stephen M. McManus 
and his fiancιe, DeeAnna Oney, both of New London, Ohio; a daughter, Christina 
McManus of Conneaut; her father and stepmother, George and Cora Teed of 
Albion, Pa.; four brothers, Robert (Nancy) Teed of Kingsville, Frank Teed 
of Ashtabula, Glenn (Julie) Teed of Albion, PA, Rick (Lindsey Fox) Teed of 
Conneaut; three sisters, Mary Ann Teed of Ashtabula, Laurie (Larry) Skeel of 
West Springfield, and Alison (Barry) Gill of Conneaut; two grandchildren, 
Blaine and Mirette McManus; an aunt, Janice Prisco of Falls Church, Va.; and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

CONNEAUT – Lena M. Zezzo, 93, died Sunday, March 6, 2005 at Ashtabula 
County Medical Center. 
    
Born in Willoughby on May 17, 1911, she was a daughter of Michael and Antoinetta 
(Vicario) Zezzo. 
    
Ms. Zezzo was a lifelong resident of Conneaut and owned and operated 
Zezzo Red and White Market on Harbor Street in Conneaut. 
    
She was a member of Saint Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Conneaut and 
enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews, baking and roller skating. 
    
Survivors include nieces Joan Williams of Ashtabula, Bonnie Luke of Jupiter, FL 
and Judy Arth of Lyndhurst; nephews Mickey of Dayton, Michael and Daniel of 
Conneaut, fourteen great nieces and nephews and thirty-nine great-great 
nieces and nephews. 
    
She was preceded in death by both parents; brothers Lawrence, Leonard and Donald 
and sisters Lucille and Josephine. 
    
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 9 at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic 
Church, 744 Mill Street, Conneaut with Father John Thomas officiating. Calling 
hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 8 at the BURTON FUNERAL HOME, 1329 Lake 
Road, Ashtabula. 
     Entombment will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

  CONNEAUT — Carol Ann 
Jones, age 64, of Conneaut, OH, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at her 
residence. 
     Mrs Jones was born August 16, 1940 in Conneaut, 
the daughter of Homer and Gertrude (Guest) Clough Lohmier.  She was a 1958 
graduate of Conneaut High School.  After graduation, she resided in 
Patterson, New Jersey for 15 years. 
     She returned to Conneaut and was the 
owner/operator of the former Conneaut Sugarbowl Restaurant and later she 
owned and operated the former Sugarbowl Pizza in West Springfield, PA for 14 
years.  She was also employed with Deck Vend Services for seven years. 
     Carol liked gardening and she especially enjoyed taking 
care of and spending time with her husband, Thomas of 46 years, and her 
children, and grandchildren. 
     Mrs.  Jones was preceded in death by her father. 
     She is survived by her mother, Gertrude Lohmier of 
Conneaut; her husband, Thomas E.  Jones of Conneaut; a daughter, 
Bonnie Sauberan of Conneaut; four sons, David Jones of North Springfield, 
PA, Brian Jones of Columbus, OH, Michael and Jeannette Jones of Ashtabula, and 
Jason and Heather Jones of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren, Susie Jones, 
Marissa Miller, Mandy and Crystal Sauberan; and a sister, Judith Kempher of 
Kentucky.

HELIA S.  KULTTI 
 
CONNEAUT — Helia S.  Kultti, age 103, formerly of Buffalo Street, died 
Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Inn-Conneaut Health Care Center. 
     She was born March 11, 1901 in Hanna, Wyoming, the 
daughter of Kaisa Josefiina and Erick Kako.  She lived in Erie, PA for a short 
time before coming to Conneaut where she spent the rest of her life. 
     In her early years, she worked at the Nickle Plate 
Railroad during World War I and the pants factory. 
     She was a lifetime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran 
Church and an original member of the Cover Girls Quilting Club where she made 
over 4,000 quilts for the needy in our area and some were sent to Finland.  She 
was active in other groups at church. 
     She enjoyed her family, visiting, and her 
grandchildren. 
     Survivors include one son, Eugene (Rita) Mackey of 
Conneaut; six grandsons, Bill, Dave, and Andy, all of Conneaut, John 
of Akron, Steve from Malcom Township (near Detroit), MI, and Eugene of North 
Perry; four great-grandchildren, Kevin, Ben, Victoria, and Morgan; niece, Norma 
Dragon of Ashtabula; nephews, Carl Lackson of Spring, TX, and Philip Kako of Los 
Angeles, CA. 
     She was preceded in death by her parents, Erick and 
Kaisa Josefiina Kako; three brothers, Elmer, Arthur, and Edwin; five sisters, 
Aini Keto, Mary Mackey, Mamie Laksonen, Elaine Kruger, and Nan Kako; her first 
husband, Urho Mackey in 1952; and her second husband, John Kultti in 1956. 
     Services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Lake Road, at 12 p.m., noon, with Reverend Ted 
Pelikan officiating and Father Raymond Thomas assisting. 
     Calling Hours will be held at the Church from 11 
a.m.  until time of service.  Interment will be in Center Cemetery in 
Conneaut.

ELLA MARIE BENSON 
BUCYRUS, OHIO – Ella Marie Benson, 94, died Friday, March 11, 2005 at the 
home of a daughter in Bucyrus, Ohio. 
     She was born in Conneaut, the daughter of James 
and Martha Bennett. 
     She married Henry C.  Benson on Aug.  14, 1926.  They 
raised five children including, Mary (John) Swain, Laura (Kimball) Kennedy, 
Robert (Mary) Benson, Susan (Chuck) Pfeifer and Larry Benson.  They also had 12 
grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. 
     Through the years, Marie was involved in her children’s 
activities including PTA, Scouting and Band Boosters.  In later years, she 
worked as a nurse’s aid at Brown Memorial Hospital in Conneaut.  She was 
a very creative person and particularly enjoyed entertaining, baking pies, 
crocheting and genealogy.  She loved flowers, and throughout their 72 years of 
married life, it was a hobby that she and her husband enjoyed together at their 
home on Whitney Road in Conneaut. 
     She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; 
children, Laura in 1999 and Robert in 2003; two grandchildren; her sister Grace 
Connors Ciucci and brother Richard Bennett. 
     A service will be held Tuesday, March 15 at 1 p.m.  at 
the THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME in Conneaut with Rev.  David Miller 
officiating. 
     Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

     Born March 5, 1960 in Ashtabula, OH, he was the son of 
Floyd and Virginia (Sears) Scott, Jr.  He was a 1978 graduate of Geneva High 
School. 
     Douglas belonged to Alcoholics Anonymous in Ashtabula 
for ten years; in which he has sponsored many people.  He also belonged to the 
“R” Club on Main Avenue and had many very good friends that became his “extended 
family”. 
     He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and helping out other 
people. 
     His survivors include his father, Floyd Scott, Jr.  of 
Ashtabula; a daughter, Kathryn Nichols of Melbourne, FL; two sisters, Jacquelyn 
Juliano of Ashtabula and Ramona (Edmund) Hawkins of North Kingsville; one 
brother, Harry (Dawn) Scott of Union, MO; seven nieces and nephews, Nicholas 
Shaffer, Cassandra and David Juliano, Martin Crabtree, Lacey Schneider, Chad and

GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE – Schubert A.  “Red” Nichols, 89, died Wednesday morning, 
March 16, 2005 at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. 
     He was born June 26, 1915 in Freemont, Ohio, the son of 
Abner and Eva (Richardson) Nichols. 
     He was a U.S.  Navy WWII veteran serving in Guantanamo 
Bay, Cuba, where he worked in the engineering department of the ships.  He was 
employed as a tool and die maker for Reliance Electric, retiring in 1978 and was 
a member of the United Church of Geneva where he served as a deacon.  Other 
membership included the Geneva-Masonic Lodge #334 F & AM for 60 years, a 50-year 
member of the Geneva Chapter #147 Royal Arch Masons and past patron of the Grace 
Chapter #11 of Eastern Star.  He enjoyed golfing, skiing, fishing, traveling all 
over the U.S.  and Canada, and had wintered in Florida for 21 years. 
     He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia 
(Stevens) Nichols, whom he married Aug.  1, 1942; two sisters, Adah Boyle of 
Florida and Barbara McHarg of Geneva-on-the-Lake; four grandchildren, Emily and 
Steven Nichols of Canton and Jeffrey and Jeremy Johnson of Chicago, Illinois. 
     He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, 
Bonita Johnson; a son, Todd Nichols and a sister, Blanche Frost. 
     Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 19 at 1 
p.m.  at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St.,

ROCK HILL, SC — Joseph Julius Manuppella, age 84, formerly of Ohio Avenue, 
Ashtabula, OH, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at Piedmont Hospital.   
     He was born November 11, 1920, the son of William and 
Julia (Sevino) Manuppella, and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident, moving to 
South Carolina with his daughter in September of 2004.   
     A graduate of Ashtabula High School, he attended one 
year of college at Kent State University before entering the US Army to serve 
during World War II.  He earned a Purple Heart before being honorably 
discharged.   
     Prior to his retirement, he worked as an electrician 
for the IBEW Union Local #673.  He had also driven truck and worked as a welder, 
repairing Great Lakes Oar Boats that were docked for the winter.   
     A devoted husband, he was one of the first members of 
Riverside Yacht Club and belonged to Mother of Sorrows Church.   
     His survivors include his wife, Joan (Gill), whom he 
married February, 14, 1942; three children, Gail (Mickey) McClimans of Rock 
Hill, SC, Dave (Donna) Manuppella of Conneaut, and Mark Manuppella of 
Kingsville; five grandchildren, Kimberly, Corey, Amanda, Elizabeth and 
Matthew; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Florence Heinly of 
Ashtabula.   
     He was preceded in death by his parents.   
     Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m.  on 
Monday, March 21, 2005, at Mother of Sorrows Church, 1514 West 6th 
Street.  Reverend Fr.  Kevin Peters, Pastor, will preside.  Entombment will be 
in St.  Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum.

CONNEAUT – Helen F.  Perkoski, age 92, of Conneaut, died Saturday 
morning, March 19, 2005, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital.   
     Helen was born March 14, 1913, the daughter of Julian 
and Josephine (Darmetko) Perkoski.  She graduated from St.  Mary School and went 
to work as a seamstress for the former Goldette Clothing factory.  She went to 
work in production at the former Norton’s Plastic Company and retired after 17 
years of service. 
     Helen enjoyed bowling in her younger years and always 
loved working in her garden, walking, long drives and going to movies, and 
visits with friends over coffee. 
     Helen made her home with her mother, Josephine, whom 
she was devoted to, until her death in 1973.  Helen had resided at Inn 
Conneaut Health Center for the past two years.  She was a member 
St.  Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church, the Moose Club and the Polish Ladies 
Auxiliary Club.  She loved to spend time with her friends and family. 
     Helen dearly loved her mother and father; sister, Irene 
Lucas; brothers, Stanley Perkoski, Edward Perkoski, Walter Perkoski and Bernard 
Perkoski; and god-daughter, Donna Perkoski Kennedy, all of whom preceded her in 
death. 
     She was a beloved aunt to John, Beverly and Paul Lucas; 
Joanie, Patty and Julie Perkoski; Davey, Bob, Joey and Nick Perkoski; Mary Jean 
Perkoski; and great aunt to their children; and great-great aunt to their 
children, all of whom she is survived by.  She is also survived by her

the Eagles Auxiliary and enjoyed playing bingo and watching ballgames on TV.

OH; her sister Shirley Flitraft of Vancouver, WA; three step-grandchildren and 
several grandchildren and great grandchildren. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son John A.  Goodenow; a brother

daughter of William and Margaret (Guilliam) Rafie and devoted wife of the late

     Mrs.  Thomas graduated from Burton High School in 1946 
and was a successful business woman.   
     Jerri enjoyed reading, traveling, and especially 
delighted in spending time with her family.  She was an active member of 
Edgewood Alliance Church and The Christian Women’s Club.

of Russel and Mildred (Thompson) Ball. 
     A graduate of Albion, PA, High School, Mr. Ball had 
lived in Conneaut since 1951.  He was a World War II veteran of the 
U.S. Army, and was employed as a machine operator at Esab in Ashtabula for 24 
years, retiring in 1993.  He enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, walking, and 
doing crossword puzzles. 
     Survivors include his wife Ruby M. (Mayers) Ball whom 
he married in Conneautville, PA, on December 27, 1952; a daughter Debra 
K.  Hemphill of Conneaut, OH; two sons, John L. Ball of Fairport Harbor, 
OH and David S.  Ball of Ashtabula, OH; two sisters, Shirley Medved of 
Meadville, PA and Marilyn Leopold of Pensacola, FL; two brothers, Edwin Ball of

     He was born October 25, 1947 in Blakely, GA, the son of 
Dawson and Katie (Rogers) Chambers and has been a resident of this area since 
1975, coming from Bradenton, FL.  He was married to the former Martha 
L.  Musgrave on October 8, 1967 in Ridgeland, SC. 
     Mr.  Chambers was a truck driver for Praxair 
Corporation the past 20 years.   
     He was a member of the Braden River Baptist Church in 
Bradenton, FL. 
     He was an outstanding football and baseball player 
while at Southeast High School in Bradenton and enjoyed fishing, camping, 
hunting and being with his family.   
     Survivors include his wife, Martha; five children, 
Kandi S.  Webb of Chardon, William D.  Chambers, Jr.  serving with the 
U.S.  Marines at Keesler AFB in MS, Polly A.  Jones of Ashtabula, Kelly 
M.  Anderson of North Kingsville and Robert E.  Chambers of

  KINGSVILLE – Lillian 
Ruth Swanson, 86, died Monday, March 25, 2005 at Brown Memorial Hospital in 
Conneaut. 
     She was born June 9, 1918 in Ashtabula, the daughter of 
Harold G.  and Clara (Brown) Kemp and has been a lifetime area resident. 
     She was a nurse at Lake County Memorial Hospital and 
Brown Memorial Hospital for 30 years retiring in 1979. 
     She married Robert Swanson on Oct..  15, 1944. 
     She is a member of Kingsville Presbyterian 
Church; Orion Chapter #12 OES; American Legion Auxiliary Neal Post #743; The 
Harmony Club and the Sunshine Couples Club.  She enjoyed candy making and 
crafts. 
     Surviving her are her husband; two daughters, Sharon 
Scott and Betty Lou Swanson, both of Kingsville; two grandchildren, Karen 
(Jay) Bertholf and Virginia Lakota; three great grandchildren, Jessica and Julie 
Lakota and Virginia Bertholf and a brother, Glenn Kemp of Geneva. 
     She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, 
Russell Kemp and a sister, Mary Louise Harper. 
     Funeral Services will be 11 a.m.  Friday at the ROSS-BILLMAN 
FUNERAL HOME, 526 W.  Prospect Rd., Ashtabula with Rev.  Bonnie Habbersett of 
the Kingsville Presbyterian Church officiating. 
     Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery in Ashtabula 
Twp. 
     Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m.  Thursday at the 
funeral home and on Friday from 10 a.m.  until the time of service. 
     Memorial contributions can be made to the Kingsville

NORTH KINGSVILLE — Frank DeDomenico, 73, of North Kingsville died 
Saturday, March 26, 2005 in Cleveland.   
     A Mass of the Resurrection will be at noon Friday at 
St.  Joseph Church in Ashtabula, with entombment to follow in St.  Joseph 
Cemetery. 
     Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 
p.m.  Thursday and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.  Friday at Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550

L.  MCMULLEN 
 PIERPONT — Alexander 
L.  McMullen, 83, of Graham Rd., Pierpont, Ohio, died Sunday morning, 
March 27, 2005 at the Louis Stokes Veterans Medical Center in Cleveland, 
Ohio.  Mr.  McMullen was born October 15, 1921 in Clifton Springs, New York, the 
son of Leon & Viola (Spoor) McMullen. 
     Mr.  McMullen was a graduate of New York High School 
class of 1940 and then worked as a carpenter for his father until December 7, 
1941 (Pearl Harbor Day).  He joined the Marine Corp.  on January 3, 1942 and 
served during W.W.  II, until he was honorably discharged on January 3, 1945.   
     While on R&R with the Marine Corp.  in New Zealand, 
Alex met & married a local girl, Berl E.  Webb in 1943.  Over the next 25 years 
Alex & Berl spent 5 years in the United States & 20 years in New Zealand.  While 
in New Zealand he was a scout master and designed & built houses.  He had 3 
daughters when Alex lost his wife to cancer in 1970 & returned to the United 
States to be near his parents.   
     Mr.  McMullen then settled in Pierpont, Ohio 
with a special friend, Vivian Duhaime until her death in 1987.  Following her 
death he retired and made Pierpont his home.  He enjoyed gardening, music, 
ceramics, computers, western movies, history and talking to people. 
     Survivors include daughters Dr.  Maxine McMullen of 
Florida, Lynette Davis of New Zealand and Karen McMullen of Pierpont, 
Ohio; 4 Grandchildren, Warren, Kane & Carl Carter of New Zealand and Alexander 
Gaw of Pierpont, Ohio & Son-in-Law Neil Davis of New Zealand. 
     He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Berl, 
cousins, Vivian Duhaime, & Bob Jones, Grandma Wee Gran, Uncle Arthur Cottington 
and his best friend, Joe Sucheky. 
     A military service will be held Friday, April 1, 2005 
at 1:00 P.M.  in Evergreen Cemetery in Pierpont, Ohio.  Veterans 
of Foreign Wars Post 6846 of Geneva, Ohio, will conduct services.
