STANLEY F. HUMPHREY
CONNEAUT -- Stanley F. Humphrey, age 81, of Millard Avenue,
Conneaut, OH, died Sunday, July 31, 2005, at the Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
Born in Hamilton, OH, April 1, 1924, the son of the late Herschel and Etherine (Stieg)
Humphrey, he had resided in Conneaut since 1952.
He was a graduate of Ohio University, where he received his Master's of
Education. Mr. Humphrey was a teacher, coach, and guidance counselor in the
Conneaut City Schools, and retired in 1984, after 37 years of service. Mr.
Humphrey coached basketball, track, and football, and he also umpired baseball
games and officiated football games. He touched many lives through his teaching
and coaching career.
Mr. Humphrey was a Veteran of W.W.II, where he served with the Army Corps of
Engineers. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was a
council member and served on several committees. He was a member of the American
Legion Cowle Post # 151, the B.P.O. Elks #256, the Ohio State Retired Teachers
Group, and the Lake Erie Boat Club. He was also an active volunteer with the
C.L.Y.O. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and
especially being with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou, to whom he had been married for the past
55 years; two daughters, Janet (Gerald) Adamoski of Twinsburg, OH, Jean (John)
Hlay of Richfield, OH; two sons, Scott (Tona) Humphrey of Madison, and Tim
Humphrey of Westerville, OH; five grandchildren, Bryan, Adam, and Amy Humphrey,
and Christopher and Mitchell Hlay; and a sister, Dorothy Schlotterbeck of
Louisburg, OH.
He was also preceded in death by sister, Betty Nein; and a brother, Donald
Humphrey.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at the First
United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Graham, pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, where Full Military rites
will be conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard.
Friends may call at the THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main Street, Conneaut,
OH, on Tuesday August 2, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
The family requests that memorials be made in his name to the Church Memorial

HAZEL M. JACK
PIERPONT -- Hazel M. Jack, age 87, of North Richmond Road,
Pierpont, OH, died Saturday evening, July 30, 2005, at the UHHS Brown Memorial
Hospital of Conneaut, OH.
Mrs. Jack was born November 7, 1917, in Plymouth Township, OH, the daughter of
Charles and Goldie (Phillips) Hayes, and has been a resident of Pierpont
Township since 1943, moving from Kingsville, OH.
Hazel was a member of the Pierpont Presbyterian Church, Orion Chapter #12 Order
of the Eastern Star, and the Sheffield Star Grange.
Survivors include three children, Karen M. and husband, Ron Rang, of Ashtabula,
OH, Charles W. and wife, Linda M. Jack, of Columbus, OH, and James E. and wife,
Penny Jack, of Jefferson, OH; three sisters, Vera Shepard of Phoenix, Arizona,
Laura Richmond and Lois and husband, Maynard Lillie, all of Sheffield, OH; one
brother, Dale and wife, Holly Hayes, of Sheffield, OH; five grandchildren,
Darcie Sanford Moseley, Raymond Sanford, David I., and Steven and Rigo Jack;
seven great-grandchildren, Tessa and Benjamin R. Moseley, Jaden, Kaitlyn,
Alexandria, Nyelen and Olivia Jack; two step-grandchildren, Jamie and Jeremy
Korka; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, M. Edward Jack, on February
16, 2005; two brothers, Vernon and Charles Hayes; and one great-grandson,
Brandan Jack.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at the
Pierpont Presbyterian Church, 71 State Route 7, Pierpont, OH. Officiating will
be pastor Ed Diehl, of the Pierpont Presbyterian Church, and pastor Aletta
Burkholder, of the Bulah Calvary United Methodist Church. Entombment at
Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, OH, will follow services.
Calling Hours for friends and family will be held today, Tuesday,
August 2, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the CHILDS & WILLIAMS FAMILY FUNERAL HOME,
96 State Route 7, Pierpont, OH. Eastern Star Services will follow the Calling
Hours at 8 p.m.

FRANK JAVORICH SR.
CONNEAUT -- Frank Javorich Sr., age 82, of Conneaut, OH, died
Sunday morning, July 31, 2005, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital.
He was born January 31, 1923, in Cleveland, OH, the son of Leo and Mary (Antos)
Javorich. He resided in Conneaut for the past 15 years, moving from Chardon, OH.
He retired as a construction laborer, working for the Local #860 in Cleveland.
He was Catholic by faith; was a social member of the American Legion; a 50-year
member of the Eagles; and enjoyed golfing and bowling, in which he had bowled a
300 game.
Survivors include his wife, Mary K., whom he married in June 1945; a son, Frank
Jr. of Conneaut; his stepson, Bill Woljevach of Birmingham, Alabama; two
sisters; one brother; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William.
Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday,
August 4, 2005, at THE MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty
Street, Conneaut, OH, with Ron Petkovic officiating. Burial
will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Conneaut.

JEANNE A. MCKEE
CONNEAUT -- Jeanne A. McKee, age 79, of Euclid, OH, died
Sunday, July 31, 2005, at LakeWest Hospital in Willoughby, OH.
She was born July 18, 1926, in Painesville, OH, and was a daughter of John and
Loretta (Newbeck) Wanda.
A 1945 graduate of Conneaut High School, she was a homemaker and had been
employed for a short time at the former Astatic Corporation in Conneaut.
She moved to Euclid in 1950, where she was a member of St. Robert's Roman
Catholic Church and was also a member of the local, state and national Winnebago
Clubs.
Survivors include her husband, Jack E. McKee Sr., whom she married November 27,
1947; her daughter, Joan (Alan) Hitchcox of Willoughby, OH; two sons, Jack McKee
Jr. and Jeffrey McKee, both of Euclid, OH; three grandchildren, Sally, Emily,
and Adam; two sisters, Margaret Kallay of Painesville, OH, and Ruth (Joseph)
Fedele of Euclid, OH; and her brother, Frank (Fran) Wanda of New Buffalo, MI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Geraldine Wanda in
infancy, Madalyne Nelson, and Marie Fuchs.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, August 5, 2005, at the MARCY
FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut, OH, with the
Reverend Raymond Thomas, pastor of St. Mary and St. Frances Cabrini Churches,
officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Conneaut, OH.
No Calling Hours will be observed: However, following the service, a time of
fellowship will be held at the MARCY FAMILY CENTER, 180 Harbor Street, Conneaut,
OH.

QUENTIN R. HAWKINS
CONNEAUT -- Quentin R. Hawkins, age 81, of Conneaut, OH, died
Saturday, July 30, 2005, at his brother's residence.
Mr. Hawkins was born February 19, 1924, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of Raymond
and Alberta (Randall) Hawkins. He attended Ashtabula High School and then went
to work at Ducro Funeral Home. He entered the United States Navy in World War
II, during which his ship, the USS Eichenberger, was sunk in the South Pacific
seas and he was later rescued. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a
Machinist Mate 3rd Class.
Quentin went on to graduate from the University of Cincinnati Mortuary School
and came back to the Ashtabula area to work at Ducro Funeral Home and later at
Zaback Funeral Home. He also managed the Tinker Funeral Home in Kent, Ohio.
Quentin traveled to Vermont and owned his own construction company, building
elaborate homes, and from there, he went on to work for LOOK Magazine as a
leading salesman and later returned to Ashtabula, where he was Plant
Superintendent at the MFG Factory. He also went to Titusville and was the first
person to open an ambulance service, called the Oil Creek valley Ambulance
Service.
Quentin loved to go hunting, fishing, snow and water skiing, and enjoyed
tinkering with mechanics and tools. He was a big fan of the Cleveland Browns and
a member of the Knights of Pythius of Ashtabula.
Quentin had a great sense of humor; he was very witty and very kind and generous
to others.
Quentin is survived by one brother, Ralph Hawkins of Conneaut, with whom he
resided; nieces, Nancy Teeter, Becky Hawkins and Teresa Greaves; and
great-nieces and nephews, Travis and Tyler Teeter, and Katlyn Knierim.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Hawkins; and a
sister, Catherine McKee.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at 2 p.m. at
the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut. Burial will follow
at Ridgeview Cemetery in Ashtabula, Ohio, with the Geneva VFW Lodge presenting
Military Honors.
Calling Hours will be held Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of
service.

STEPHEN J. PALAGYI
CONNEAUT -- Stephen J. (Pete) Palagyi, age 86, of Conneaut, OH,
died Monday, August 1, 2005, at St. Vincent Health Center after a short illness.
Mr. Palagyi was born August 22, 1918, in Conneaut, the son of Joseph and Anna (Beno)
Palagyi. He was a member of the first graduating class of Rowe High School 1937,
where he excelled in baseball and basketball, earning the nickname "Skyscraper
Pete." During World War II, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army
Anti-Aircraft Unit and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands.
He enjoyed sports, especially golf, and all types of gardening; his tomato
plants and African violets were legendary. He also liked working jigsaw puzzles,
playing cards and particularly spending time with his children, grandchildren
and great-grandchildren.
Stephen was a member of the American Legion and a lifelong member of St. Mary's
Church in Conneaut, where he served as an usher for over 40 years and attended
daily Mass.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Jane Putnicki Palagyi,
with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on January 13, 2005; a son, Stan
and Renée Palagyi of Conneaut; two daughters, Martha and Mark Crotty of Hamburg,
NY, and Virginia and Dave Arp of Conneaut; grandchildren, Rick and Danielle
Palagyi, Brian Palagyi, Elizabeth Palagyi, Amanda Palagyi, Dan Crotty, and
Matthew Arp; and great-grandchildren, Christina and Andrew Palagyi. He is also
survived by his brothers, Michael Palagyi and Louis Palagyi, both of Conneaut; a
sister, Ethel Vento of Conneaut; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph Palagyi, John
Palagyi, George Palagyi, James Palagyi and Andrew Palagyi; and a sister, Anna
Yusko.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 5, 2005,
at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church in Conneaut, with Father Raymond Thomas
officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut, with the
American Legion Cowle Post #151 Honor Squadron presenting Military Honors.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m.
and 7 to 9 p.m. at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut.

DR. VITA DRAULIS
CONNEAUT -- Dr. Vita Draulis, a former Conneaut, OH, resident,
died January 22, 2005, in Trenton, MI.
She was born March 10, 1914, in Riga, Latvia, the daughter of the late Janis and
Valija (Vitols) Eikerts. She received her medical degree from the University of
Latvia.
Dr. Draulis began her career in medicine in 1939 in Latvia; from there she
practiced in Germany until 1950, came to the United States and practiced in Iowa
until 1953, and came to Conneaut in 1954, where she ended her career in Medicine
in 1985, after 30 years of service at Brown Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, the American Medical
Association, The Ohio State Medical Association, The American Academy of Family
Practice, The Ashtabula County Medical Association, and The Latvian Medical
Association.
She is survived by her two daughters, Astrida Milligan of Trenton, MI, and Vita
Carman of Gallipolis, OH; and son, Karlis Draulis of Merritt Island, FL; seven
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Janis Eikerts of Denver,
CO.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Janis; sister,
Valija; brother, Gustavs; and a granddaughter, Holley Carman.
Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2005, at
the THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main Street, Conneaut, OH, with the
Reverend Stephen Szilagyi, pastor emeritus of the United Church of Christ,
officiating, assisted by the Reverend Joyce Shellhammer, pastor of the North
Kingsville Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
GORDON L. FINLAW JR.
CONNEAUT -- Gordon L. Finlaw Jr., age 48, died unexpectedly
Friday, July 29, 2005, at his home of a probable heart attack.
He was born December 12, 1956, in Erie, PA, the son of Gordon L., Sr. and Betty
(Wade) Finlaw.
He married Deborah (Shinault) in 1995 and was employed at Reserve Environmental
Services as Chief Operator and was certified in wastewater treatment.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter and his
dog, "Jimmy."
Surviving Mr. Finlaw is his mother, Betty of Espyville, PA; his wife, Deborah;
two daughters, Jodi Harco of EastLake, OH, and Kelly Finlaw of Las Vegas, NV;
two stepdaughters, Katie and Taylor Coffman, both of Conneaut; stepson, Randy
Coffman of Conneaut; his sisters, Lucinda Draper, Kimberly Finlaw, Polly
Sauerwein, and Vicky Lamb; a brother, John; and his granddaughter, Mackenzie
Harco.
He was preceded in death by his father in 2000.
Graveside Service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2005, at East
Conneaut Cemetery, with Reverend Raymond L. Lamb, pastor of the Church of God,
officiating.

ROSALIE E. HICKS
AUSTINBURG -- Rosalie E. Hicks, age 89, of North Ridge Road
West, died Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at Austinburg Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Bellefontaine, OH, on May 28, 1916, to the late Benjamin H.
Borgerding and Margaret (nee Dettleburger) Borgerding.
Rosalie had resided in Saybrook for the past 30 years, previously residing in
Conneaut and Monroe Twp. areas for most of her life.
She was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting,
planting her gardens and flowers, and bird watching. Rosalie also enjoyed
camping at the family camp in Titusville.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Paul A. Hicks; daughters, Barbara
(James) Thompson of Albion, PA, and Judy (Mike) Ware of Pittsburgh, PA;
grandchildren, Jeanette and Jeffrey Thompson; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth
Mahovsky.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Patrick Hicks;
sister, Irene Hamilton; and brothers, Henry Borgerding and Edward Borgerding.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 8, 2005, at 10
a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 480 State Rd., Conneaut, with Rev. Father
Raymond Thomas officiating.

RICHARD W. NEUBAUER
ASHTABULA -- Richard W. Neubauer, age 69, of South Parish Rd.,
died Saturday August 6, 2005, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born in West Springfield, PA., September 13, 1935, the son of the late LeRoy and
Ruth (Ceeder) Neubauer. He had resided in West Springfield and Conneaut area his
whole life.
Mr. Neubauer was employed by the Erskine Trucking Co. for many years as a truck
driver. In his early years, he worked for the Grow Fishery, and for the Hercules
Packing Co. for 10 years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, camping and
gardening.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Steve) Rzeszutek of Conneaut; four sons,
Richard and Debbie Neubauer, David and Yvonne Neubauer, Scott and Jeannie
Neubauer, and Jim and Kerry Neubauer, all of Conneaut; 11 grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; and a brother, Neal (Pat) Neubauer of West Springfield, PA.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; and a
brother, David Neubauer.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at 1 p.m., at the
THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main St. Conneaut, OH., with Rev. Tami

ASHTABULA -- Esther M. Shoff, age 88, a former Kingsville, OH,
resident, died Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at Parkwood Nursing Home in Snellville,
GA.
She was born November 9, 1916, in Sheffield Township, the daughter of Thomas and
Maude (Price) Mills. She was a graduate of Kingsville High School and Eastern
Nazarene College in Quincy, MA.
Mrs. Shoff was a teacher for various public schools in Ohio until her
retirement.
She is a member of the Ashtabula First Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed
sewing, reading, and canning.
Surviving her is a son, Stephen (Sara) Shoff of Marshfield, MA; three daughters,
Pearl (Jim) Knight of Snellville, GA, Lucille (Brad) Gay of Derry, NH, and Anita
(Neil) Nicoll of Seattle, WA; eight grandchildren, Christine, Steve, Nicole,
Danielle, Kim, Kerri, Amy, and Bobby; four great-grandchildren, Megan, Miles,
Caroline, and Jak; two brothers, Gordon Mills of Oklahoma City, OK, and Burton
Mills of Kingsville; and two sisters, Mable Book of Kirtland, OH, and Pearl Book
of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Shoff, in 1999;
and by a sister, Goldie Parsons.

ROSEMARY EMERY
CONNEAUT -- Rosemary Emery, age 74, of Conneaut, OH, died early
Tuesday evening, August 9, 2005, at the Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
Mrs. Emery was born October 21, 1930, the daughter of Carmine and Cora Mae
(Golden) Zeppettella. She graduated from Rowe High in 1948. Rosemary married her
husband, Ernest, on June 28, 1951, and became a housewife and loving mother.
She was a member of St. Mary Church and a former member of the Catholic
Daughters of America and the Blue Army.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, baking, and was a wonderful pie and
cream puff maker. She also liked to play bingo and take care of her rose garden.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and followed them to all of their
sporting events and always told them stories. Rosemary loved the outdoors and
nature, as well as listening to polka music and talking with people and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest, of 54 years; four sons, Harry and Cathy
of Lake City, PA, Charles and Lorrie, Anthony and Emy, and Oakey and Carmela,
all of Conneaut; two daughters, Brenda and Harold Bovee of Kingsville, and
Rosemary Lynn and Bill Hill of Conneaut; 13 grandchildren; four brothers,
Carmine Zeppettella of Conneaut, Clyde Zeppettella of West Springfield, PA,
Franklin Zeppettella of South Carolina, and Ivor Zeppettella of Monroe; and two
sisters, Evelyn Baldwin of Conneaut and Marian Zeppettella of Cleveland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Louis Zeppettella; and a
sister, Dora Murphy.

JOAN A. MAKO
CONNEAUT -- Joan A. Mako, formerly of Pierpont, OH, died
Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at the Villa at the Lake.
She was born in Mansfield, OH, November 9, 1915, the daughter of the late Simon
and Agnes (Weiderkehr) Besenti. Mrs. Mako lived in Brecksville for 20 years and
moved to Pierpont in 1972, and had resided in Conneaut the past five years.
While in Brecksville, she operated the Andrew Palzes dress shop, and also
operated the Country Carriage dress shop in Saybrook, and retired after 40 years
of service.
She was a member of St. Andrews Church in Sheffield, where she was an active
member, and has attended St. Mary's Church since moving to Conneaut.
She enjoyed traveling throughout the country and has traveled to many foreign
countries.
Survivors include two grandsons, William Mako of Perry, OH, and Robert Mako of
Springfield, OH; two granddaughters, Barbara Douglas of Chardon, OH, and Bonnie
Freundlich of Clinton, WA; 10 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Peg Mako
of Conneaut.

SELMA ZEIGLER
CONNEAUT -- Selma Zeigler, age 91, of Conneaut, OH, and a
former Bellevue, OH, resident, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at Inn
Conneaut Health Center, Conneaut.
She was born April 4, 1914, in Fort Wayne, the daughter of the late Morris and
Mary Waltemath.
Selma was the owner of Ferguson Flower Shop, and former manager of the State
Theater in Bellevue. In Conneaut, she was employed by Morris Flower Shop,
Conneaut Rec. Bowling Alley, and the Rainbow Café.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose and Beta Sigma Phi.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed baking, flower arranging, her grandchildren,
and tending to her houseplants.
Survivors include two sons, Morris Ferguson and George Zeigler Jr., and a
daughter, Debbie (Steve) Nickels, all of Conneaut; seven grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; and two stepdaughters, Gail (Jerry) Foos of Bellevue, and
Gloria Van Meter of Columbus.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George
Zeigler Sr.; brother, Chuck Waltemath; sister, Mary Gemmill; and a grandson,
Randy Ferguson.
Friends will be received Friday, August 12, 2005, from 11 a.m. until service
time at 1 p.m. in the FOOS & SON FUNERAL HOME, 311 West Main Street, Bellevue,
OH 44811. Burial will follow at Strongs Ridge Cemetery, Lyme Township.

CHARLES GERREN SR.
CONNEAUT-- Charles (Tim) Gerren Sr., age 62, of Conneaut, died unexpectedly
Wednesday evening, August 10, 2005, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital in Conneaut.
Mr. Gerren was born November 17, 1942, in Conneaut, the son of Charles and Lois
Bagnall Gerren. He attended the Ohio School for the Deaf and was employed with
CW Ohio Manufacturing (formerly Webb's Manufacturing) for 41 years, working in
many different departments throughout the factory.
He was a former member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He loved to work and
enjoyed remodeling and woodworking. He also liked to collect baseball cards and
beer cans. He liked jigsaw puzzles, sports, gardening, bowling, and fishing.
When he was in school, he enjoyed football and track and was a member of the Key
Club.
Mr. Gerren is survived by his wife, Ann (Bertog) Gerren, whom he married May 15,
1965; two daughters, Sharon Crandall of Conneaut, and Susie and Scott Burdine of
Conneaut; three sons, Chuck and Jayne Gerren of Ashtabula, Rick Gerren of
Dallas, Texas, and Tom and Tonya Gerren of Conneaut; eleven grandchildren,
Stephanie, Joshua, Tommy Gerren, Kristopher, Matthew, Jessica, and Nicole
Crandall, Brandon Burdine, Tiffany Gerren, and Haley and Tyler Gerren; one
great-grandchild; and his extended family at CW Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2005, at the RAISIAN
FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Tim Krause officiating. Burial will follow at
Glenwood Cemetery in Conneaut.

EVELYN L. NORTON
CONNEAUT -- Evelyn L. Norton, age 85, of Clark Street,
Conneaut, OH, died Monday, August 15, 2005, at the Jefferson Geriatric Center.
She was born January 13, 1920, in Conneaut to the late Adolph Schumacher and
Gertrude Rogell. Evelyn resided in Conneaut most of her life.
She retired from Allied Resins after 40 years of service. In her spare time, she
enjoyed bowling and shopping.
Survivors include her husband, William Norton Sr., whom she married on May 8,
1938, in Conneaut; two daughters, Diana Anderson of Ashtabula, and Janet Spear
of Conneaut; son, William Norton Jr. of Conneaut; eight grandchildren; and 12
great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Martin Rogell;
brother, Charles Schumacher; and three sisters, Virginia Schumacher, Katherine
Schumacher, and Mildred.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the

LOIS BENNETT
PARKERSBURG, WV. -- Lois Bennett, age 88, formerly of Conneaut,
OH., died Thursday morning, August 18, 2005, at the Worthington Manor, in
Parkersburg, WV.
She was born April 16, 1917, in Andover, OH., the daughter of Homer Lee and Mary
Hope (McClelland) Bissell.
Mrs. Bennett was a 1935 graduate of Andover High School, and resided in
Conneaut, Ashtabula, Plymouth, and Andover before moving to Parkersburg, WV.
She was employed at Ashtabula Rubber Company as a lathe operator for 26 years,
retiring in 1982; was a Gray Lady Volunteer at Brown Memorial Hospital for many
years; and was a member of the First Assembly of God, in Ashtabula.
Survivors include a son, James Bennett of Paden City, WV.; two stepsons, George
Bennett of Columbia SC, and Forest Edward Bennett of Fullerton, CA.; a daughter,
Judith R. Bennett of Tallahassee, FL.; her stepdaughter, Carol Teuber of
Michigan; her sister, Leta Bissell Platt of Ashtabula, OH.; many, many
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several
cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Dennis Bennett,
whom she married, August 19, 1940; her son, Gerald Michael Bennett; a brother,
Lee Bissell; and three stepdaughters, Florence Bennett Blood Loomis, Agnes
Bennett Loomis, and Betty Louise French.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2005, at THE
MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH., with
Mrs. Bennett's step-grandson, the Rev. David Blood, of Poland United Methodist

PAUL H. HOGAN
CONNEAUT -- Paul H. Hogan, age 78, died Wednesday, August 17, 2005, at his home.
Mr. Hogan was born October 31, 1926, in Geneva, OH., the son of Carl H. and
Della (Turpenning) Hogan, and had lived his whole life in Ashtabula County. On
July 15, 1989, he married Julianna Rzeszutek.
Mr. Hogan was a Chief Engineer for 25 years on U.S. Steel Corp.'s Great Lakes
Fleet. He has also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for
Reliance for eight years, and SCM Chemicals in Ashtabula for 10 years, retiring
in 1991.
He enjoyed golfing, dancing, camping and reading; and attended Plymouth United
Methodist Church; was a life member of the VFW, Ashtabula and Geneva; a member
of F.O.E. Ashtabula and Geneva; and the East Ashtabula Club-Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Julie, of Conneaut; daughter, JoAnna (Tom)
Aniolowski of Shorewood, IL.; three sons, Lyle (Michelle) Swartout, of Lake
City, PA., and Mark and Mike Swartout, both of Ashtabula; six grandchildren,
Keagan, Ashlyn, Cole, Ryann, Andrea, and Amanda.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Don Blakeslee; his first
wife, Helen (Kissman) ; two brothers, Alfred in 2002, and Fred Henry; and a
sister, Betty Merriam.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2005, at the WALKER
FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 828 Sherman St., Geneva, with the Reverend Vernon Palo, of
Plymouth United Methodist Church, officiating. Calling Hours will be from 9 to

ANTHONY
J. (TONY) REO
CONNEAUT-- Anthony J. (Tony) Reo, age 77, of Conneaut, died
early Saturday morning, August 20, 2005 at the Inn Conneaut Health Center.
Tony was born July 24, 1928, in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of Dominick and Rose
Cirinelli Reo.
He attended St. Mary grade school and later, Conneaut High School. Following
high school, Tony went on to enlist in the United States Army in 1946. He
served his country as a PFC and cook, during the occupation of Japan, until he
was honorably discharged in 1948. He returned to the Conneaut area and went to
work at the former Nickel Plate Railroad as a car knocker, and worked for a
short time at the General Electric Base Plant and then returned to work at the
Nickel Plate Railroad. He also worked for the city of Conneaut in the street
department and later retired from the former Astatic Corporation, from a
disability in 1978.
Tony was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church. He was also a
member of the Conneaut Eagles Club, the American Legion, and the Conneaut Moose
Club, where he enjoyed visiting to sign up for their daily drawings. He also
enjoyed playing the lottery games, gardening, fishing, various wood crafts,
reading, cooking, hunting, baseball and football. He liked taking camping trips
with his family and spending time with his grandchildren and friends. When Tony
was 15 years old he broke his leg, and while recuperating, he developed skills
at doing very unique card tricks and became very good at it. Tony also helped
throughout the years with his brothers, Ralph and Angelo, tend bar at the
original Reo's Cafe on Harbor Street.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ralph, Angelo, Alex
and Vincent (Herbie) Reo; and a granddaughter, Angela Reo.
He is survived by his wife, Filomena (Phil) DiFillippo Reo, whom he married
August 27, 1949, and this Saturday they would have celebrated their 56th wedding
anniversary; two sons, Anthony (Tony) D. Reo of Mentor, and Vincent (Vince) and
Desiree Reo of Ashtabula; a daughter, Lucille (Lucy) Allen of Sarasota, Florida;
five grandchildren, Bryan Reo of Mentor, Gabriel and Maggie Reo, both of
Ashtabula, Scott Allen and Shelley Bixler both of Sarasota, Florida; three great
grandchildren, Broderick Baldwin, Robert McPeeks and Valerie Bixler, all of
Sarasota, Florida; a sister, Mary Reo of Conneaut; and "Gizmo", Tony's favorite
dog.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23,
2005 at St. Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church, Conneaut, Ohio, with Father
Raymond Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in
Conneaut, where the American Legion Honor Squadron will present full
military rites.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 22, 2005 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to
9 p.m. at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.

BERNICE M. HUMPHREY
CONNEAUT -- Bernice M. Humphrey, age 93, of Monroe Twp., died
Saturday, August 20, 2005, at the Villa at the Lake.
She was born December 30, 1911, in Bushnell, OH, the daughter of Fred J. and
Pearl (Schupp) Hanni.
Mrs. Humphrey was a 1929 graduate of Conneaut High School, and was a lifelong
area resident. She was employed for 20 years as an assistant cook at the former
Monroe Elementary School. She was a member of Kelloggsville United Methodist
Church and the Ladies Aid of the church. She was a 64-year member and former
officer of the Monroe Grange, and formerly was active in the 4-H program.
She enjoyed quilting and was a national prize-winner in the Grange contest, and
had also appeared on Cleveland Channel 3's "Del's Folks." She also enjoyed
baking and was the "roll baker" for church dinners.
Survivors include her son, Russell C. (Marilyn) Humphrey Jr. of Fredonia, NY;
her son-in-law, Dr. Larry Krueger of Summerville, SC; six grandchildren, Debra
Krueger and Lisa Krueger, both of Summerville, SC, Bonnie Humphrey of New
Castle, PA, Alan Humphrey of West Middlesex, PA, Don Humphrey of Lake Bluff, IL,
and Paul Humphrey of West Grove, PA; four great-grandchildren; and a number of
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell C. Humphrey Sr.,
in 1992; her daughter, Dr. Sharon Krueger, in 2001; and her sister, Friedaline
Hogle, in 1982.
Funeral Service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2005, at the
Kelloggsville United Methodist Church, 4763 N. Monroe Center Rd., Monroe Twp.,
with the Reverend Aleta Burkholder officiating. Burial will be in Kelloggsville
Cemetery.

Sunday, August 21, 2005. She was born March 26, 1913, in Conneaut, and was a
daughter of John B. and Alice (Goldsmith) Ring.
Mrs. Gibson was employed at Webb Mfg. and was a lifelong member of First Baptist
Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Ring of Kansas City, MO; six
granddaughters; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John H Gibson; and two
sisters, her twin Geraldine Pratt, and Margaret Konnert.

Monday evening, August 22, 2005, at her home. She had been ill since December.
Born October 4, 1940, in Conneaut, OH, she was the daughter of Chester and
Marian (Gollmer) Lowery. She married her husband, William E. "Frosty" Frost in
1974, and worked as a press operator for Venture for 35 years.
She was a member of the Moose Club, attended the Wesleyan Church of the Nazarene
in Albion, PA, and enjoyed bowling and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband, William of Conneaut; her daughter, Jackie Sue
Renninger of Evans City, PA; three sons, Jerry DiFilippo of Washougal, WA, David
DiFilippo of Conneaut, and Mark DiFilippo of Ashtabula; three brothers, Robert
Lowery of Edinboro, PA, John Lowery of Conneaut, and Dale Langdon of Conneaut;
and six sisters, Ruth Connell of Evans City, PA, Carol Bowers of Spartansburg,
PA, Jacqlyn McBride, Dorothy Mitchell, Darlene Hicks, and Elaine Barnum, all of
Conneaut. She is also survived by two grandchildren, AnnaLynn DiFilippo, and
Christopher Renninger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Betty Phillips, and
Barbara J. Fugate.

MILDRED L. GARRIES
GIRARD, PA -- Mildred L. Garries, age 89, of East Springfield,
Pa., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at Pleasant
Ridge Manor in Girard, Pa.
Millie was born on May 18, 1916, in Millcreek Twp., Pa., the daughter of the
late Walter J. and Vera M. (Phillips) Hammer.
Millie grew up on a large family farm near Weis Library, where she went to
school and graduated from Millcreek High School in 1934. After high school, she
worked as a nanny for a wealthy Cleveland, Ohio, family giving her the resources
to attend and graduate from the Malone Bible College in 1945. After college, she
traveled throughout the East, setting up Bible study groups along the way, where
she finally met her husband, Bill "Wilbur" Garries, of Sterrettania, Pa. They
were married on September 29, 1949. On July 1, 1956, they became the proud
parents of a son, Ray, and moved to East Springfield, Pa.
Millie worked for Hopkins Mfg. in Lake City, and for the next 47 years, she
became very active in the Girard Alliance Church, where she taught Sunday School
for 40 years, was the church librarian for 20 years, and also played the piano
and organ for the congregation. She was also a member of the Alliance Woman's
Group, and she organized Senior Citizen bus trips for many years.
Besides her parents and her husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by two
brothers, Paul and Floyd.
Millie is survived by her son, Ray, and his wife, Terry, of Fox Island,
Washington; a sister, Hazel Deutsch, and her husband, Fred, of Millcreek; a
brother, Roland, and his wife, Ruth, of West Springfield; and two
sisters-in-law, Helen Hammer of Erie, and Jeanne Hammer of Commerce City,
Colorado. She is further survived by 5 grandchildren: Amanda, Brent,
Christopher, Matthew and Michael.
Friends and family are invited to call at the Girard Alliance Church at 229 Rice
Avenue, Girard, Pa., on Sunday, August 28, 2005, from 2:30 p.m. until the time
of the Life Celebration Service at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Clyde Davis Jr.

KINGSVILLE -- Steven D. Simmons, age 44, of Dibble Rd., died
Wednesday, August 24, 2005, in his home.
He was born on March 2, 1961, in Conneaut, the son of James B. and Cherie A.
(Andrews) Simmons and has been a lifetime area resident.
He enjoyed gardening, especially his roses and tomatoes, he loved nature and
being of service to people.
Surviving him are his parents of Austinburg; two daughters, Angelina M. Simmons
of Las Vegas, NV and April Lynn Simmons of Ashtabula; two grandchildren, Makaila
Quinata and Tristian Clayman; a brother, Michael J. Simmons of Conneaut; a
sister, Cynthia L. Easthom of Chardon; four nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew J. Simmons.

CANFIELD -- William A. Castrilla, age 85, of Canfield, OH, died
Sunday, August 21, 2005. Bill, as he was best known, was the son of Felix and
Rose (Bartone) Castrilla and was born in Conneaut, OH.
Bill grew up in Conneaut and graduated from Conneaut High School. A Veteran of
World War II, he was in the U. S. Army Air Force. He retired from Amweld
Corporation in Niles, OH, as Plant Manager in 1982. He was a member of St.
Michael's Catholic Church in Canfield, OH.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna (Michael) Bezyak of Canfield; six
grandchildren, David (Barb) Castrilla, Donna Lynn (Garris) Graham, Nicholas
Castrilla, Kevin (Allison) Bezyak, Corey (Jill) Bezyak, and Zachary Bazyak; four
great-grandsons, Joey and Vincent Castrilla, and Alexander and Austin Bezyak; a
brother, Jacob (Joyce) Castrilla of Geneva; two sisters, Marion Dewey of
Ashtabula, and Rosalie Moisio of Conneaut; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, the former Marie Warnick, whom he
married November 7, 1944, and passed away August 4, 2004; a son, William Jr.;
