LILLIAN R.  SWANSON 
   
KINGSVILLE — Lillian Ruth Swanson, age 86, died Monday, March 28, 2005, 
at Brown Memorial Hospital in Conneaut. 
     She was born June 9, 1918, in Ashtabula, OH, the 
daughter of Harold G.  and Clara (Brown) Kemp, and has been a lifetime area 
resident. 
     She was a nurse at Lake County Memorial Hospital and 
Brown Memorial Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1979. 
     She married Robert Swanson on October 15, 1944. 
     She was a member of Kingsville Presbyterian 
Church; Orion Chapter #12 OES; American Legion Auxiliary, Neal Post #743; The 
Harmony Club; and the Sunshine Couples Club.  She enjoyed candy-making and 
crafts. 
     Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Sharon Scott 
and Betty Lou Swanson, both of Kingsville; two grandchildren, Karen (Jay) 
Bertholf and Virginia Lakota; three great-grandchildren, Jessica and Julie 
Lakota, and Kayla Bertholf; and a brother, Glenn Kemp of Geneva. 
     She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, 
Russell Kemp; and a sister, Mary Louise Harper. 
     Funeral Services will be 11 a.m.  today, April 1, 2005, 
at the ROSS-BILLMAN FUNERAL HOME, 526 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with 
Reverend Bonnie Habbersett, of the Kingsville Presbyterian Church, 
officiating.  Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery in Ashtabula Township. 
     Calling Hours were held Thursday evening, March 31, 
2005, at the Funeral Home, and a calling hour will be held again today, April 1, 
2005, from 10 a.m.  until the time of service at the Funeral Home. 
     Memorial contributions can be made to the Kingsville 
Presbyterian Church or to the Kingsville Fire Department.  Envelopes will

GRUBKE 
   
CONNEAUT — Mary “Jean” Grubke, 83, died Wednesday morning, March 30, 
2005, at Ashtabula County Nursing Home in Kingsville. 
     She was born December 19, 1922, in Brush, CO, and was 
the daughter of Russell W.  and Mary G.  (Andrews) Powers. 
     Mrs.  Grubke was a veteran of the U.S.  Marine Corps 
and was employed as a secretary for Crandall Insurance.  She attended State Line 
United Methodist Church and enjoyed reading, gardening, needlecrafts, walking 
and taking her friends places. 
     Survivors include three daughters, Joanne (Fred) Bucci 
of Conneaut, Janice Leonard of Pierpont, and Jackie (Steven) Sheaffer of 
Las Vegas, NV; her son, Joseph (Beverly) Grubke of Akron; her sister, Phyllis 
Syzdeck; 12 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one 
great-great-grandchild. 
     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, 
Joseph Grubke, in 1993; and her sister; Patricia Weeks. 
     At Mrs.  Grubke’s request, her body has been donated 
to Case-Western.  A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m.  Monday, April 4, 2005, 
at State Line United Methodist Church, 7330 Bushnell Rd., Monroe Twp., with the 
Rev.  Vernon Palo officiating.  A time of fellowship will follow the service in 
the church dining room. 
     Memorial contributions may be made to the Conneaut 
Rescue Squad.  Envelopes will be available at the church and at MARCY FUNERAL 
HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which is in charge

 FLOYD A.  BETTEYS 
 
NORTH KINGSVILLE — Floyd A.  Betteys, age 82, of West Center 
Street, North Kingsville, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at his 
home. 
     He was born in Conneaut, OH, February 18, 1923, 
the son of the late Floyd A.  and Bernice (Turner) Betteys Sr.  and resided in
Conneaut most of his life except for the past five years in North 
Kingsville. 
     He was a W.W.  II Veteran of the United States Army. 
     Mr. Betteys was employed by the Bessemer and Lake Erie 
Railroad and retired as a car knocker.  He was also employed as a projectionist 
for the former State and Ohio Theaters in Conneaut and the Drive-In 
Theater in North Kingsville. 
     He was an active member of the Amboy United Methodist 
Church and a member of the Motion Pictures Operators Union. 
     In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, studying the 
Bible and spending time with his children and grandchildren. 
     He is survived by his wife, Donna (Hewitt); two 
daughters, Susan (Ron) Nickels and Pamela (Lonnie) Stump, both of Conneaut; 
two sons, Michael (Chris) Betteys of Mentor and Floyd A., Jr.  of Conneaut; 
step-son, Robert Katz; seven grandchildren, Ronald “Butch” Nickels, Christina 
Nickels, Jeremy Wheeler, Nicole Betteys, Scott Betteys, Eric Betteys and 
Michelle Betteys; four great-grandchildren, Amber, Ericka, Kelsie and Dylan 
Nickels; and one great-great-granddaughter, Cheyenne. 
     Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his 
first wife, Christine M.  Betteys; and brother, Jack Betteys. 
     Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m.  Monday, April 
4, 2005, at the THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main Street, Conneaut, 
with the Reverend Gina Kim, of the Amboy United Methodist Church, 
officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. 
     Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Sunday, April 
3, 2005, from 7 to 9 p.m. 
     The family requests donations be made in his name to

CONNEAUT – Ruth J.  Moore, 78, of Harbor St., passed away April 1, 2005 
at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital.  She was born August 22, 1927 in Jefferson 
County, Ohio the daughter of the late W.C and the late Myrtle Irene (nee 
Goodeare) Wrikeman.  Prior to moving to Conneaut in 1977 she has resided 
in Carrollton, Ohio. 
     Ruth is survived by daughter, Bonnie Kovarik of 
Conneaut; and grandchildren, Patty Potts, of Cleveland, Joe Kovarik, of 
Charleston, South Carolina, and Becky Natto of Cleveland. 
     She is preceded in death by parents and her husband, 
Paul Ellsworth Moore.   
     Cremation has taken place.  There will be no

CONNEAUT - Jaime M.  Drew Haas, 25, died Monday, April 
4, 2005 in Dayton, OH. 
     Born October 13, 1979 in Conneaut, she was the 
daughter of Dennis Drew and Sandy (Haas) Piper. 
     A Conneaut resident for most of her life, she 
attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and enjoyed digital imaging and morphing 
pictures as well as spending time with her son and family. 
     Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Sandy and 
Kenneth Piper of Geneva; her father and stepmother, Dennis and Rachel Drew of 
Conneaut; her son, Donnie Joseph Mitchell Drew of Oklahoma City, OK; her 
brother, Jason Haas of Ashland; maternal grandparents, Marlin and Patricia Haas 
of Conneaut; step grandmothers, Miriam Piper of Ashtabula and Florence 
Knight of Monroe Township and several aunts, uncles and cousins. 
     She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents; 
Carlton and Vilah Drew; her step grandfathers, Harry Knight and Ralph Piper and 
a cousin, Aaron Drew.

CONNEAUT - Elizabeth E.  Gasch, 91, formerly of Lakeview Ave., 
Conneaut, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Austinburg Rehabilitation Center 
in Austinburg. 
     She was a lifelong area resident being born on 
Oct.  25, 1913, a daughter of Floyd R.  and Bernice (Loomis) Gee. 
     Mrs.  Gasch was a 1932 Conneaut High School 
graduate and primarily a homemaker.  She was a dedicated member of the Lakeview 
United Methodist Church and was active with the IHN Class, the Ladies Aide, the 
Missionary Society and many other church related organizations throughout the 
years.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and needlecrafts.  In 
her earlier years she played the organ and taught piano lessons. 
     She is survived by a daughter, Lorraine S.  Gasch and a 
son, Lawrence E.  (Angie) Gasch, both of Conneaut; a brother, C.J. Gee of 
Chardon; four grandchildren, Linda Zappitelli of Cleveland, Tim Gasch of 
Conneaut and Christine and Ken Gasch of Chicago, IL and four great 
grandchildren. 
     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, 
Gordon in 1991 and eight siblings. 
     Funeral Services will be 10 a.m.  Monday at the 
Lakeview United Methodist Church, 660 Clinton Ave., Conneaut with 
Rev. David Miller, pastor of the church, officiating. 
     Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.

CONNEAUT - CARL S.  RAY, age 79 of Conneaut died 
early Saturday morning, April 9, 2005 at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital. 
 
Carl was born September 11, 1925 in Ashtabula, the son of Samuel and Irene 
Rebera Ray.  He moved to the Tuscon area with his family in 1950 and worked at 
Golden Pin Lanes for many years.  Carl returned to the Conneaut area with his 
family in 1990.  He enjoyed helping his sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Tony 
Pignotti at the family restaurant, Tony's and The Golden Anchor and having 
coffee at Basil's Cafe.  He also enjoyed old cars and his family.  Carl was a 
member of St.  Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church, Conneaut. 
     Carl was preceded in death by his parents; and a 
brother, Samuel Ray, Jr. 
     Carl is survived by his sister, Rita and Tony Pignotti 
of Conneaut; five nephews; four nieces, and several great nieces and 
great nephews. 
     Funeral services will be held Tuesday,

 DONALD A.  DAVIS 
 
MONROE - Donald A.  Davis, 81, died Sunday morning, 
April 10 in Lake Wales, FL. 
     Born March 17, 1924 in Conneaut, he was the son 
of Laurel and Amanda (Tenney) Davis. 
     A World War II veteran of the U.S.  Marines, he served 
in the Pacific Theatre where he participated in action against the enemy at 
Okinawa, Ryukyu Island and also participated in the occupation of China.  He 
later helped blast the tunnels on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. 
     He retired after many years as a mechanic at Pymatuning 
State Park.  Mr.  Davis was a charter member of the Monroe Athletic Club, and 
was a former member of the V.F.W.  and the American Legion.  He enjoyed 
gardening, traveling and driving for parts for Bortnick's Tractor Sales. 
     Survivors include two nieces, Barbara Brewer of Winter 
Haven, FL, and Laurie Gilkerson of Jefferson; a nephew, Gene Brewer of Monroe 
Twp.,; a step-niece, Flossie Dague of Arvada, CO; and four stepchildren, James 
Kalp of Donegal, PA, J.R.  Kalp of Acme, PA, Domer Kalp of Clarksburg, PA and 
Gladys Neal of Indiana, PA. 
     He was preceded in death by his parents; his first 
wife, Mary; his second wife, Flossie and two sisters, Vivian in childhood and 
Winifred Brewer. 
     Visitation will be from 4 to 6 
p.m.  Thursday at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St.,
Conneaut.

CONNEAUT - L.  Beverly Davison, 93, formerly of Buffalo 
St., Conneaut, died Tuesday morning, April 12, 2005, at the Harrington 
Care Home following a lengthy illness. 
     She was born November 11, 1911 in Conneaut, and 
was the daughter of Edson H.  and Louella (Huntley) Tuttle. 
     A 1930 graduate of Conneaut High School, she was a 
70-year member of First United Methodist Church where she was very active in her 
younger years.  She enjoyed golfing, dancing and was an avid Cleveland Browns, 
Cavs and Indians fan. 
     Survivors include her daughter Mary Lou (George) 
Vanaskey; her son William E.  (Patricia) Davison of Lakeland, FL; seven 
grandchildren, Greg Rardeen, Laura Grubb, Erin Bender, Brook Davison, Terri 
Bancroft, Jill Frye and Joe Vanaskey; nine great grandchildren and several 
nieces and nephews. 
     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband 
W.  Murray Davison and three brothers, Herbert Rood, Sr., John Tuttle and Eddie 
Tuttle. 
     Graveside Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, with the Rev. Chuck Graham, 
pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.

CONNEAUT - Estelle J.  Neton died January 26, 2005, in 
Duluth, MN, at the age of 92. 
She was born in Cleveland, OH, on September 20, 1912, 
and resided at home in East Springfield, PA, during her early years. 
Estelle studied business administration at Columbia 
Commercial College in Columbia, SC and was a Veteran of the U.S.  Army, serving 
in the WAC's during World War II.  She was employed by the Army for 32-years, 
and was Chief, Internal Review Division, Comptroller's Office, Fort McPherson, 
GA. 
Estelle resided in Smyrna, GA for over 30-years and was 
active in the American Business Woman's Association, Sandy Plaines Chapter 
(Georgia).  She served as its president and was named Woman of the Year in 
1980.  She was a member of St.  Thomas the Apostle Church in Smyrna. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and 
Vincent Neton; brothers, Walter (twin) and Frank; and sisters, Anna and Julia. 
She is survived by a sister, Frances K.  Jones (Merton) 
of Walker, MN; and several nieces and nephews. 
A Memorial Mass was 
held at Benedictine Health Center in Duluth, MN.  Graveside Services will be 
held Saturday, April 16, 2005, at 11 a.m.  at St.  Joseph 
Cemetery, with Reverend Raymond 
Thomas, pastor of St.  Mary's, officiating.

MONROE TWP.  - Shirley R.  Bartlett, 77, 
of Monroe Township, died Tuesday morning, April 12, 2005, at the home of her 
daughter Connie Thompson, in Conneaut, OH, following a lengthy illness.  She was 
born October 30, 1927, in Monroe Township and was a daughter of Cary "Ted" and 
Evelyn (Smith) Starks. 
 
A Pierpont High School graduate, she married Willis E.  Bartlett on December 28, 
1946.  She was a member of the United Church of Christ, where she was active in 
the Doers Class, Women's Fellowship, and served as chairperson of the soup and 
sandwich luncheons and funeral dinners.  She was also a member of the Conneaut 
Quilt Club and the Conneaut Red Hatters.  She enjoyed baking cookies and pies, 
bowling, traveling, and camping. 
 
Survivors include two daughters, Connie (Jim) Thompson of Conneaut, OH, and Gale 
(George) Sito of Andover, OH; two sons, Gary (Joyce) Bartlett of Conneaut, OH, 
and Dale (JoAnn) Bartlett of West Springfield, PA; her sister, Beverly (Toady) 
Tanner of Kingsville, OH; seven grandchildren, Heidi (Matt) Spero, Darci (Erik) 
Evans, Michael Bartlett, Mikel (Chris) Phallen, Chris Palla, Matt Palla, Buddy 
Litwiler, Krissy Litwiler, and Gary Bartlett; and five great-grandchildren, 
Derek Frazee, Seader and Killian Evans, and Kaylah and Lawren Litwiler. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis E.  Bartlett, on 
October 27, 1998; a grandson, Scotty Bartlett, in 1991; and her brother, Larry

April 16, 2005, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., 
Conneaut, OH, with the Rev.  Walter Coy, pastor of United Church of Christ,

United Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Kelloggsville

MONROE TWP.  - Betty R.  Raab, 83, of 
Monroe Township, OH, died at her home early Wednesday morning, April 13, 
2005.  She was born December 24, 1921, in Madera, PA, and was the daughter of 
Clair and Martha (Granville) Kephart. 
 
Mrs.  Raab, formerly of Eastlake, OH, had lived in the Conneaut area for the 
past 22 years and was formerly employed at Ohio Rubber.  She was a member of 
Gageville United Methodist Church, the Autumn Leaves Senior Group, 55 Alive 
Group, and the Sheffield Grange.  She enjoyed sewing and crafts. 
 
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, William Raab, Sr.; four daughters, 
Shirley Cosson of Austin, TX, Martha (David) Foran of Willoughby, OH, Lucy 
(Jeff) Covell of Willoughby, OH, and Rella (Fritz) Hemrich of Concord, OH; five 
sons, William Raab Jr.  of Brunswick, GA, Joe (Elaine) Raab of Madison, OH, 
Richard (Sharon) Raab of Geneva, OH, David Raab of Burton, OH, and Arnold 
(Donna) of Bonneau, SC; two sisters, Maxine Stuber of Concord, OH, and Shirley

MONROE - Margaret E.  Dalrymple, 88, 
formerly of Middle Road, Monroe Township, died Saturday, April 16, 2005 in UHHS-Brown 
Memorial Hospital. 
 
Born in Monroe Twp., on Sept.  1, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur 
and Ruby (Reeves) Shreve and had been a lifelong area resident. 
 
Mrs.  Dalrymple was employed for a short time with the former Astatic Corp.  She 
was a longtime member of the First Assembly of God and had joined the Church of 
God when she moved to Monroe Twp. 
 
In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening and helping her husband raise 
short-horn cattle. 
 
She is survived by a daughter, Rose Winkler of North Royalton; a son, Lee 
Dalrymple of Monroe Twp.; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one 
great-great-grandchild; a sister, Josephine Dygert of Linesville, PA; and 
several nieces and nephews. 
 
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley, to whom 
she had been married for 69 years; a daughter, Doris; and two brothers and two 
sisters. 
 
Funeral services will be held 11 
a.m.  Wednesday at the THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main Street, Conneaut, 
with Rev.  Raymond Lamb, pastor of the Church of God, officiating. 
 
Interment will follow in Kelloggsville Cemetery.

MARGARET E. DALRYMPLE 
 
MONROE - Margaret E.  Dalrymple, 88, 
formerly of Middle Road, Monroe Township, died Saturday, April 16, 2005 in UHHS-Brown 
Memorial Hospital. 
 
Born in Monroe Twp., on Sept.  1, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur 
and Ruby (Reeves) Shreve and had been a lifelong area resident. 
 
Mrs.  Dalrymple was employed for a short time with the former Astatic Corp.  She 
was a longtime member of the First Assembly of God and had joined the Church of 
God when she moved to Monroe Twp. 
 
In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening and helping her husband raise 
short-horn cattle. 
 
She is survived by a daughter, Rose Winkler of North Royalton; a son, Lee 
Dalrymple of Monroe Twp.; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one 
great-great-grandchild; a sister, Josephine Dygert of Linesville, PA; and 
several nieces and nephews. 
 
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley, to whom 
she had been married for 69 years; a daughter, Doris; and two brothers and two 
sisters. 
 
Funeral services will be held 11 
a.m.  Wednesday at the THOMPSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main Street, Conneaut, 
with Rev.  Raymond Lamb, pastor of the Church of God, officiating. 
 
Interment will follow in Kelloggsville Cemetery. 
 
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. 
 
The family suggests that memorials be made either to the American Heart 
Association or the American Cancer Society. 
 
Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

CONNEAUT - Paul D.  Schlaich, 38, of John Avenue in Conneaut, died Tuesday 
afternoon, April 19, 2005, after a lengthy illness.

CONNEAUT - Paul D.  Schlaich, age 38, 
of Conneaut, OH, died of complications from diabetes and multiple sclerosis on 
Tuesday afternoon, April 19, 2005, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, where 
he had been a resident for the past month. 
 
He was born January 30, 1967 in Ashtabula, OH, and was the son of George W.  Schlaich 
of Conneaut, OH and the late Naomi K.  (Felch) Schlaich. 
 
Paul was employed at Venture Corporation and had previously worked at MFG, 
Mose's Super Duper and Giant Eagle.  He was an EMT and volunteer firefighter 
with Station #3.  He was a Star Trek fan and enjoyed computers. 
 
Besides his father, Paul is survived by his son, Paul G.  Schlaich of Conneaut, 
OH; his sister, Linda (Eric) Gillespie of Kingsville, OH; and nieces, nephews 
and more distant relatives. 
 
He was preceded in death by his mother on August 30, 2002. 
 
Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m., Friday, 
April 22, 2005, at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty 
Street, Conneaut, OH, with the Reverend Vernon Palo, pastor of Plymouth United 
Methodist Church, officiating.

CONNEAUT - Beatrice M.  "Bea" Richardson, age 85 of Conneaut, Ohio, died 
Wednesday evening, April 20, 2005, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center, Conneaut, 
Ohio, following a lengthy illness. 
 
She was born July 15, 1919, in Titusville, Virginia, and was the daughter of 
John L.  and Anna (Stuve) Walker. 
 
A Conneaut resident since childhood, she was employed at the former Rogers 
Jewelers, and the former Minette Shop. 
 
She was a life member of St.  Paul's Episcopal Church where she served in many 
capacities including the Episcopal Church Women, Sunday School teacher, Alter 
Guild, Vestry, choir member, and substitute organist.  Her many memberships 
included P.T.A.  president, Music Boosters president, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, 
Conneaut Artists Guild, Gray Ladies at Brown Memorial Hospital, and Mothers 
Club. 
 
She enjoyed painting and crafts, music, playing both piano and organ, being with 
her family and grandchildren, and flower gardening. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her aunt, Elizabeth Struve. 
 
Survivors include her husband, Jack M.  Richardson, whom she married November 
20, 1939; two sons, Ronald A.  (Sandy) Richardson of Concord, Ohio, and Rex 
E.  Richardson of Knoxville, Tennessee; her sister, Mildred Hennessey of 
Conneaut, Ohio; her brother, John D.  Walker of Clayton, North Carolina; four 
grandchildren, Stephen Richardson, Lynn Palek, Leslie Isaacs, and Andrew 
Richardson; and six great-grandchildren, Sydney, Erin, Jenna, Jessica, Kyle, and 
Jamie. 
 
Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m.  Saturday, April 23, 2005, at the MARCY 
FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty Street, Conneaut, Ohio, with 
Reverend Terry Russell, of St.  James Episcopal Church, Painesville, 
officiating.  Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Greenlawn Memory 
Gardens, North Kingsville, Ohio.

CONNEAUT - Tona A.  Adams, age 56, of Madison Street, Conneaut, Ohio, died 
Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at St.  Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. 
 
Born in Springfield, Ohio on December 23, 1948, she was the daughter of Herman 
H.  and Patricia (White) Wolford.  Mrs.  Adams lived most of her life in 
Conneaut. 
 
She was an employed, for several years, at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in 
Marketing, and also worked for the Maples Home in Conneaut for several years as 
a coordinator. 
 
In her leisure time, she enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family and 
grandchildren.  Tona was an active member of the Greater Promise Missionary 
Church of Ashtabula.   
 
She was preceded in death by her mother; and grandparents. 
 
Survivors include her husband, Carl; two daughters, Karen Adams-Lyons and Ollie 
Adams-Benson, both of Conneaut; her father, Herman H.  Wolford of Ashtabula; 
five grandchildren; three sisters, Brenda Moore and Alicia Rogers, both of San 
Antonio, Texas, and Patricia Blackwell of Jefferson; and two brothers, Herman 
H.  Wolford Jr.  of San Antonio, Texas and Richard Wolford of Frankfurt, 
Germany. 
 
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m.  Monday, April 25, 2005, at the Peoples 
Baptist Church on West Avenue, Ashtabula, with Reverend George B.  Lampkin 
officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

CAROLINE E. HOSKINS 
 
CONNEAUT - Former Conneaut resident Caroline 
E.  Hoskins, 85, died Saturday, April 23, 2005, at her home in 
Ashtabula. 
 
She was born September 10, 1916, in Conneaut, the daughter of Edward and Agnes (Rhein) 
Gaukel, and was a lifelong Ashtabula County resident. 
 
Mrs.  Hoskins was a graduate of Conneaut High School and Rubicons Business 
School in St.  Louis, MO.  She worked at Farmers National Bank, co-owned (with 
her husband) Hoskins Food Store and Trailer Park, worked at Dunbar Greenhouse, 
and at Carlisle-Allen.  She also worked for the Ashtabula County Board of 
Elections, was an Ombudsman for the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, and 
volunteered at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. 
 
In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and her lifelong love of 
gardening.  Mrs.  Hoskins was a member of St.  Joseph Church of Ashtabula and a 
former member of St.  Mary Church of Conneaut. 
 
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Kardohely of Conneaut; a son, John 
Hoskins of Hickory, NC; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton; a son, Charles 
Hoskins; her sister, Lorraine Smith; and her brother, Flavian Gaukel. 
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 
p.m.  Tuesday at St.  Mary Church, 480 State St., Conneaut.  Rev.  John Summers 
will officiate. 
 
Visitation will be from 12 Noon until 1 p.m.  Tuesday at MARCY FUNERAL HOME, 208 
Liberty Street, Conneaut. 
 
Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

CONNEAUT - Linda J.  Joslin, age 47, 
of Conneaut, OH, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at the Cleveland Clinic from heart 
failure after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. 
 
Linda was born April 21, 1958 in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Ronald and 
Betty (Manyo) Varckette.  She was a 1976 graduate of St.  John's High School and 
later graduated from Kent State University in 1978 with a Associate Degree in 
Business Management. 
 
Linda went on to work as an administrative secretary with Premix.  She met and 
married her husband, Michael A.  Joslin, on July 10, 1982 at St.  Mary Roman 
Catholic Church in Conneaut.  Linda then devoted her life to her husband and 
raising their children.  She was also a part-time receptionist at Joslin/Landis 
Insurance Agency, where she loved serving people at the front desk.   
 
Mrs.  Joslin was a member of St.  Frances and St.  Mary Roman Catholic Churches 
in Conneaut. 
 
She loved cooking, and enjoyed walking, exercising and going for bike 
rides.  She also enjoyed Thursday night car cruises with her husband.  Linda 
especially loved to attend all of her children's sporting events throughout the 
years.  She enjoyed traveling with Mike to various places all over the 
world.  She always loved to spend time with her family and friends. 
 
Linda was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Miklos and Mary Manyo; 
and her paternal grandparents, Ralph and Laura Varckette. 
 
She is survived by her parents, Ronald and Betty Varckette of Ashtabula; her 
husband, Michael A.  Joslin of Conneaut; three sons, Aaron, Gregory and Jay, all 
living at home; two brothers, Ronald and Rhonda Varckette of Geneva and Marc and 
Mary Varckette of Columbus; five sisters, Lisa and Charles Locy of Cincinnati, 
Jeanne and Mark McKnight of Columbus, Maria and Paulo DiBenedetto of North 
Kingsville, Sharon and Doug Stranman of Jefferson and Laura and Calvin Skaates 
of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews. 
 
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on 
Friday, April 29, 2005, at 10 a.m.  at St.  Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic 
Church, 744 Mill Street, Conneaut, with Father John Summers officiating.  Burial

died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Cleveland Clinic.   
 
She was born May 8, 1936 in Harverton, Kentucky, the daughter of Sterling and 
Lizzie (Fanning) Daniels and had been an Ashtabula resident since 1963.   
 
Prior to her retirement, she worked as a press operator for Rockwell Brake.   
 
She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God, and enjoyed reading, bird 
watching, television, and her grandchildren.   
 
Her survivors include two daughters, Patricia Frasure of Ashtabula and Peggy 
Smegal of Conneaut; one son, Michael Frasure of Denmark Township; grandchildren, 
Michael Lee, Holly Kristen, and Stephanie Lynn; two sisters, Sylvia McKinney of 
Kentucky and Aileen Shepherd of Indiana; and two brothers, Jim Daniels of 
Indiana and Conley Daniels of Cleveland.   
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Frasure; three brothers, 
Arnold, Frank, and Sterling Daniels; and her parents.   
 
A Service will be held 2 p.m.  Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Greenlawn Memory 
Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, 3140 East Center Street, North Kingsville.  The 
Reverend Kenneth Roberts, Pastor of the Pentecostal Church of God, will

CONNEAUT - Margaret F.  Emery, age 86, 
of Conneaut, OH, died early Wednesday morning, April 27, 2005, at her home. 
 
She was born August 30, 1918 in Conneaut, OH and was a daughter of Frank and Mae 
(Roberts) Babcock.  Mrs.  Emery graduated in 1936 in the first graduating class 
of Edgewood High School. 
 
Primarily a homemaker, she was also employed at one time at Molded Fiberglas and 
the Ashtabula County Nursing Home. 
 
She was an active member of Conneaut First Assembly of God and the Women's 
Ministry of the Church.  She enjoyed her family especially her grandchildren and 
great-grandchildren. 
 
Survivors include her daughter, Delores M.  Rigden of Conneaut; her sister, 
Pepper (Frank) Randolph of Conneaut; two grandchildren, Dennis (Beth) Rigden of 
Conneaut and Andre Rigden of Los Angeles, CA; and two great-grandchildren, Amy 
(Kevin) Ott of Santa Barbara, CA and Alyssa Rigden of Conneaut. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond H.  Emery on June 
26, 1980; her son, Raymond F.  Emery; her sister, Dorothy Bisbee; and four 
brothers, Reverend Glenn Babcock, Edward, Frank and Bill Babcock. 
 
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2005, at the First 
Assembly of God, 389 West Main Road, Conneaut, with the Reverend Donald Matthews 
and the Reverend Andrew Warren officiating.  Burial will be in Edgewood 
Cemetery.

KINGSVILLE - Richard "Bud" Howe, age 
79, of South Ridge East, Kingsville, OH, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at the 
Ashtabula County Medical Center. 
 
Born September 8, 1925 in Ashtabula, he was the son of Bert and Emma (Swanson) 
Howe.  A graduate of Kingsville High School, he was also a Veteran of World War 
II, serving in the U.S.  Army. 
 
He is a member of Kingsville Presbyterian Church and The Ducks Unlimited. 
 
Mr.  Howe was a handy man and loved fixing things; he also enjoyed golf, yard 
work and he loved animals. 
 
Surviving him are his son, Ronald R.  (Peggy) Howe of Bellevue, Nebraska; three 
daughters, Penny (Joe) Allen of Jefferson, Karolyn Howe of Euclid and Rebecca 
(Tom) Pelyhes of Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Kelli, Kristopher, Kasey, Erik, 
Amee, Jenifer and Richard; and 11 great-grandchildren. 
 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sara in 2003; and by a 
sister, Esther Blank. 
 
A Memorial Service will be Monday, May 2, 2005, at 11 a.m.  at Kingsville 
Presbyterian Church, 3056 West Main Street, Kingsville, with Reverend Bonnie 
Habbersett officiating.  Burial will be in Lulu Falls Cemetery.
